ASGD Species Lore #01

This is gonna be about the Serpenskolk, a species native to the planet Shiznoska in the Lunamaru Star System.

The Serpenskolk commonly look like a hybrid between a raptor, a bird, & a snek. But since their name references "serpen" which is often associated with danger noodles, they are usually associated with snakes & not raptors at all. (Even though they are primarily based on ratorso, they just have snake & bird elements) They however seem to stand up like humans though which is also a common thing about them & have elf ears.

Each tribe of Serpenskolks has their own culture, ideals/beliefs, body types, & ways of living. But what is common about them is they do have the capability to change their birth gender at will & can even change their colors if desired (& even some bits of their culture is somewhqt similar). But at rare times, Serpenskolks cant be born with these natural abilities so they much go with artificial means to do those. They will have a major difference in their tribe type like the huge claws used for digging of the Devinka or the beautiful & glowy feathers of the Blimoscenes. Some Serpenskolk can even have wings & very weird horn shapes.. Their eyes however will always be unique to the individual.

While they can exist EVERYWHERE on Shiznoska, their main home is Tabilta, the land their ancestors decided to live on many many years ago. They are actually extremely close relatives to the Englomia, Dravolshi, Kektarin, Dukano, & Zenkumok as they all originated from the same ancestor. (Although the Dravolshi look more like their ancestors since the other species are uh..... a outcome from inbreeding....)

Tabilta used to be a pretty peaceful land until the birth & rise of their current ruler, Alder'Sokk Ichelmol the Serpent King. Due to this Tabilta has been... not so friendly to the point some individuals (like Insharia & her husband Periose) ran into different continents to get away from the madness. This has lasted for at least 40 years (Yes, 40 frikin years). This also spark major stigma for the Blimoscene Tribe, a tribe of Serpenskolks while peaceful, are also the most beautiful & graceful of the tribes. (This is bcs the king is hella racist to those poor fellas who did nothing wrong but exist)

As for their diet, their diet consists of bugs, fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, fish, poultry, & meat. (Yes, they are omnivores but do prefer meat & fruits) These are all of things used inside of their cuisine, but each tribe's food is very different, even if they use the same ingredients. Some of these ingredients are, however, not what you see if you were only on earth. They are not wasteful of the stuff they use. If there's an animal they have hunted down/killed for food... THEY WILL USE IT ALL! It's pretty much a global thing. But the only person... well, Serpenskolk.. is the king himself. (Bcs he's a rich & pompous a-hole). Camagoomi (a type of bird) bone marrow soup & noodles are very common foods, but like with the difference thing in mind, they do make it their own way. (Before you ask, the Camagoomi is a large bird that is native to Tabilta itself. It weirdly enough also has the properties of a cow but can also fly. However, they don't fly often but are extremely dangerous. Very common in Serpenskolk culture as a food source or a source for milk)

Serpenskolk often wear what let's their body color stand out. A example is the Devinka who often wear more thicker cloths as a they live a much colder & albiet sandy area of Tabilta. (They wear fingerless gloves so digging can be easier) but when it is hot they only seem to wear crop tops (in the form of a x). The color of a a Devinka however is often warm colors minus the color of their skin, which is the color of a human & their hair is normally a bright color. So they often wera slight duller shades of pastels to somwhat match with their hair. The Serpenskolk are also extremely good weapon smith's & are infamous for their knives which are often sold by Serpenskolk traders in space. Each knife however is pretty expensive bcs welp... they aren't really being sold on their home planet which is cheaper.

Also some goofy ahh bonuses: They are very much born with hair, however, it's just feathers that are so small that idk if you can consider it as frikin feathers. The feather are actually really soft & a bunch of them feels like fur. Also unlike alot of reptilian species, The Serpenskolk & Dravolshi are the only native races if Shiznoska that can give live birth (even though they are not mammals). They also have very good hearing & good eyesight.

& heres a morbid fact: Back in the old times, the Serpenskolk used to... eat their young if they were deformed or diseased/disabled. However, this will only make then sick bcs IDK WHY YUR COMMITING CANNIBALISM ON A SICK CHILD! Nowadays they use medicine & surgeries like everyone else.

Did Henry VIII forbid Princess Mary from any correspondence after she was bastardized by statute? Different biographies claim different things, was hoping for some clarity and insight.

If he did, he did a fairly poor job of enforcing the rule:

1172. Anne Shelton to Henry VIII. I have spoken with my lady Mary, as you desired, and asked her by whom she sent the letter to master Carowe. She said she sent it by her servant Randal Dod, and that lady Bryan delivered her lady Carowe's letter open, the effect of which was to desire her for the Passion of Christ in all things to follow the King's pleasure, otherwise she was utterly undone. After I had spoken with my lady Mary I went to my lady Bryan, and she affirmed what was said to be true. Hunsdon. this Sunday, at 8 o'clock in the evening. Signed. 'Henry VIII: September 1534, 16-20', in Letters and Papers, Foreign and Domestic, Henry VIII, Volume 7, 1534, ed. James Gairdner (London, 1883), pp. 453-457. British History Online.

This contradicts the below:

968. Princess Mary to [Cromwell]. Apologises for her [poor] writing; "for I have not done so much this two year and more, nor could not have found the means to do it [...] but by my lady Kingston's being here."  'Henry VIII: May 1536, 26-31', in Letters and Papers, Foreign and Domestic, Henry VIII, Volume 10, January-June 1536, ed. Which contradicts...

1253. Marillac to Francis I. Saw letters of hers in French, written to the Emperor's ambassador in the time of her “ennuy.” [...] [Her] chamber woman says that when her mother was first repudiated [1531 or 1533] she was sick with “ennuy,” but, on being visited and comforted by the King [1536], soon recovered and has had no such illness since. 'Henry VIII: October 1541, 11-20', in Letters and Papers, Foreign and Domestic, Henry VIII, Volume 16, 1540-1541, ed. James Gairdner and R H Brodie (London, 1898), pp. 585-592.

And, it even contradicts Chapuys, who mentions her correspondence during this time, as well. There are times he's unable to receive any messages, but Mary was writing him frequently at some times, intermittently at others. Like, during 1534, Chapys falls for some false flags (such as, crowing about how Mary managed to secure the best place on the barge setting out for Elizabeth's new household, sent word to him where the barge would be sent so that he knew which place to wait for her appearance on the shore... shortly followed by him whining about how this showcase of defiance seems to have intensified her mistreatment, and caused the arrest of "a young lady who did her the most service", including interrogation by the Duke of Norfolk as to how, exactly, Chapuys learned which place at which riverside he needed to wait to watch her pass...), but from 1535 onwards, she even manages to send her own letter to the literal Emperor, and she claims it will be very easy to slip out of her sister's household, that all she has to do is drug Anne Shelton and shimmy out a window to accomplish this, all the way to 1536, where she manages to copy a letter her stepmother has written to Anne Shelton and send it to Chapuys, and sends him word that she approves of the plot to oust her stepmother from the throne ("On 2 May 1536, he wrote that Mary had encouraged him to get rid of Anne and, on her advice, he employed various means to do so [...]", Inside the Tudor Court, Lauren Mackay).

There is of course, the possibility that it was 'forbidden' to Mary officially, but that the unofficial policy was to turn a blind eye/allow it so that her correspondence could be monitored. Warnicke espoused this theory, I'm not terribly convinced, however, because while Chapuys does mention Mary's letters, he also, in the thick of the Exeter Conspiracy arrests, claims he's not too terribly worried for Mary's well-being because he's long told her to burn correspondence from him, and he himself has already burned her most controversial correspondence, kept the red herrings he dictated and sent her some for good measure, should her household be searched (since a complete absence of correspondence from Chapuys would be suspect). Although, the possibility that Henry knew his eldest daughter had solicited foreign invasion would perhaps put the pressurizing of his council for her arrest six months afterwards, into an...interesting, context? (Was he planning to hold onto this information/evidence just in case he ever needed to use it? Had he not acted upon it until that point because he wanted to leave the option of an Imperial alliance open? Had he not told his council, but was he planning to if she refused the oaths yet again, mid-1536? Et al)

Tl; dr again, if that was his forbiddance, it seems it was either rather toothless (it would be instructive to read the letter Shelton was responding to here, wouldn't it) and/or inconsistent. There seem to have been periods within this timeframe where this 'rule' was more strictly enforced than others.

BIOGRAPHY

Aedan was adopted by his aunt and her husband, growing up in a large family on a farm in Torr. Willow adored him. But Corann was cruel and abusive. He put too much pressure on Aedan to be like his other sons. 

When Aedan was twelve, he took the blame for his uncle's death. It had been an accident while on a camping trip. But Corann called it murder and tried to have Aedan arrested. When the court decided it was just an accident, Corann sent Aedan to care.

Aedan didn't get on well with the other kids at the care home. His quietness made him easy to blame when things went wrong. But Aedan tried to keep his head down. 

He was sixteen when he started volunteering at a dog home. He met Dunne while there when he bought his Staffordshire Bull Terrier in to get checked. Dunne invited Aedan to hang out with some friends. 

After that, Aedan would spend every afternoon with Dunne and his gang of rough friends after volunteering. He knew he was a joke to them but was happy to have friends. He didn't recognise that he had grown into an attractive young man. Or that some people enjoyed the company of a calmer, caring influence.

He eventually started dating Dunne, who would happily 'fix' Aedan's issues. It made him feel safe for the first time since his uncle's death. But it was at the cost of his real safety. Aedan didn't realise that Dunne and his friends were a gang of criminals. 

When Aedan showed interest in attending university, Dunne undermined him and tried to stop him in every way he knew how. Aedan only managed to escape the relationship with another gang member's help. An ex-army doctor in his forties-fifties, Dedrek was the oldest member of the gang and the only one who understood that Aedan had a future. 

With Dedrek's help, Aedan attended university in Belfast to study architecture. He dated a few people here and there and made friends. But nothing that really lasted. Eventually, he rescued a puppy called Branwyn and hid him in his dorm room. That was all the company he needed until Dunne found him. They immediately got back together. 

When Aedan graduated, he moved in with Dunne and joined his father's business. He hoped to regain his family through hard work and resilience. But nothing he did ever pleased Corann. He was constantly told he wasn't a good fit for the high-pressure workplace. 

When Aedan quit the position, he and Dunne had an explosive falling out. Aedan fled Northern Ireland altogether with Branwyn. He couldn't bear to be around the assholes who flooded his life. And he had recently learned Dedrek now lived in Edinburgh. So Aedan moved there. 

With Dedrek's help, Aedan bought a run-down Scottish manor to try his hand at restoration. He lives in the crumbling carcass, restoring it between caring for the animals he's adopted and publishing photobooks on architecture through Dedrek's company.

sigyn had always stuck out, even amongst the gods. she is not violent, she is not vengeful, and her life goal is not to die in ragnarok once it comes. her only idea and her single driving thought is the wellbeing of her family. in all her verses, she was a mortal first and because of this loyalty, she is granted immortality through divine blessing.        

in mythology, loki kills baldr by rigging a game. the gods could not let this pass since baldr was extremely beloved among them. everyone who was part of this and connected to Loki in any way was punished. after killing lokis sons, loki was taken in a cave deep under the earth and chain using his own sons entrails. they put snake over his head so the snake could drip venom on his forehead and cause him immeasurable pain. ever faithful, sigyn remained at his side using a bowl to collect the venom that was dripping from the snake’s teeth.

From time to time, she had to leave his place to pour the content of the bowl. During that time, the venom would drip on Loki’s head. The poison was very powerful, and it made him tremble and scream in agony. Loki’s screaming and trembling are said to be the origin of earthquakes in the human world.

mythos canon does not have to apply to other muses unless desired          

because of her sacrifices ( mythology and headcanons ), she became the goddess of fidelity, nurturing, and grieving. primarily, she was honored by women. if someone was praying to sigyn, they were usually in deep sadness or was heartbroken. also, people who lost their children paid respects to sigyn to keep them safe in the afterworld.

She would not be a God that you would pray for seeking justice but the god to whom you would pray to achieve inner peace. she was usually represented as either a young, innocent bride, a grieving mother, or a nurturing mother, and that were three main aspects regarding Sigyn’s personality. It depends on which Sigyn’s personality you pray to. If it is to the bride, the offering should be cake or some other sweet which should be made by the one making the offering. To the nurturing or grieving mother, one should offer fresh milk and bread.        

personality:   

she is stubborn and willful. she seeks law and order, follows rules and expects others to do the same. this can come off as naive and self righteous at times, putting expectations on others and being disappointed or sad when its not met. her ability to keep giving second chances is taxing and quixotic. as her name sake, she is a fighter and will stick up for herself and others—especially those she loves. she will fight tooth and nail even at a disadvantage. she is loyal to a fault, always wanting to make sure the people closest to her are taken care of even when they break her heart over and over.     

she is hard working, intelligent and focused, tends to be more introverted. she dislikes cheats, liars and bullies and will tell people when she disapproves of their behavior. sadness comes easier to her than anger though she will refuse to cry in front of others if she can help it. when shes comfortable, she can be playful and sweet, letting her guard down enough to let herself breath outside her responsibilities.

main ::  lightly based off the novel ‘truth & other lies’ series, sigyn was born to a mortal family on midguard. her mother died when she was young and her brother is a con man so she took over her fathers business at a local book shop and printing press. her father was diagnosed with brain cancer which leaves him bed ridden and hallucinating. she does her best to care for him when shes not working in the shop, fixing the machines and making sure projects are completed on time. her brother is known in bad circles for conning people out of money so she keeps bookies and loan sharks at bay as best she can. she is stubbornly unwilling to give up on her family no matter the strife

             her undying and unyielding loyalty, even at the expense of her wellbeing, sparks a divine energy inside her. while it is acknowledged by odin and freya, they never approached the woman because she is mortal and could not live in asgard. without being introduced, her magical abilities are only brought out when in danger or high emotions, uncontrollable and unknowing to her.

mythological & marvel ::  when odin was gathering his allies, creating the pantheon, he found a one mortal who stood out among the many. despite her families struggle, the betrayal of those closest to her, she remained loyal to her blood and kept her promises even when she was heart broken and exhausted. through her untimely death, odin brought her amongst the Aesir gods as the goddess of fidelity, unable to let that light inside her die. optional to include marriage to loki and her sons.

he is born of ash , led to believe nothing more than the stories bestowed upon him by high masters of the republic. born on the outer rim to a couple or ranchers , there wasn't much of a life awaiting him out there. even as an infant the boy showed an affinity for the force , a raging sense of kindness , that led him to the trees and small bits of knowledge that should have been left unknown. the family had little means as it was , and when a couple of men in robes from coruscant came knocking it was an easy decision for the family. he's sent away to train and learn at an age no older than two rotations. accepted with open arms , the boy is born and bred a jedi. as a youngling the boy shows high aptitude with a laser sword , but his control of the force leaves much to be desired. pushing through inadequacy with sheer force and perseverance. he leads with kindness , and a fevered desire for justice , the likes of which manage to hide notes of danger that would likely have set his training back until the boy had gained a more mature understanding of the force. and yet , he's picked up as a padawan likely before he's ready.

a natural affinity for violence has him playing with nova corps as a young teen , partnered with a jedi knight placed on the front lines , the boy was more violence than training , a requirement as part of their assignment under jedi master ki-adi-mundi , while the knight's heavy focus of the boy's training on survival and violence was never brought to question , the boy could remember on occasion his master being brought in by general ki-adi-mundi and being scolded for failing to focus on books of jedi history & sensitivity to the force. he comes of age in battle. and as it rages on , as he loses mentors and friends to enemy fire , the list of grievances against the high council and the jedi order grows exponentially. and when his master eventually fell in battle. the padawan was left with only the clones and the supreme chancellor as comfort , where the jedi were willing to leave his master's body to rot on some obscure planet it was the clones who brought him home and the chancellor who allowed him a proper burial.

huckleberry demands the trials. rather than be placed under another jedi knight. it takes little convincing , the boy is a marine through and through. and while the skills necessary to survive them by anger and war and emerges a jedi knight out of grit more than understanding. and yet jedi knight nonetheless and at the young age of nineteen. the blonde's distaste for the war builds inside of him , a silent rage at the masacre of troops , friends and allies. hate for the separatists builds , and while he is told to meditate by peers , the chancellor's understanding of his situation often has him siding with and spending time with the man when he's returned to home planet from whatever mission is next. the lack of a father figure as him finding it in a man that whispers tales of the enemy. of how the dark side isn't bad. of how , if he were to join him , they could get rid of the jedi order , or the blindness that came from it... and rebuild the world anew.

it does not take years , nor weeks , for the young man to agree. falling into an understanding that the world had to begin a new. order 66 brings light this new order , a death to the corruption , and the beginning of a far more just existence. and huckleberry , well a part of the first round of inqusitorious. he is then trained under lord vader , to gain a better understanding of the dark side of the force. his left eye is taken from him during the training , a lesson of loss. he learns to be more offensive , more aggressive , and the hesitation that once came with using the force has given way to sheer desire and the force flows through him more naturally on this side. he has much to learn and realizes this shortly after meeting the others. realizing that he is lacking in so much of what makes the others stronger than he. the boy doesn't change bleed his crystal , finding it much more exhilarating to find and hunt jedi with the blue blade and was often nicknamed blue due to the refrain from bleeding the crystal. huckleberry , while having a primary motive , also wished to preserve the lightsaber in its original form as an ode to his fallen master.

the young man grows fond of purge troopers , and after the likeness is discovered , is often deployed with them on missions to eradicate the remaining jedi. during one of these missions , a jedi knight , once friends with his deceased master stops him , pleading with him to return to the light. the internal battle the conversation leads to results in surface cracks on the kyber crystal in his blade as it fights huckleberry's desire to bleed it immediately after , while he gives up on the endeavor before cracking the crystal through the surface cracks result in an occasional instability of the blue blade ( though a rare occurrence ) when the strength of the force is high within him.

small notes : the clone wars is technically only three years long , huck's with the nova corps from age 15-19. he pretty much becomes a knight at the end of the war and jumps straight into imperial status. huckleberry should not have been advanced to knight when he was , he was not ready , and the lack of a master directly results in him falling for the dark side. he is part of the original group of inqusitors , noted not tortured but so-called corrupted. bio is super rough expect adjustments over time.

i disagree, but only partially. it is possible to turn your fanfiction into an original story, and i have done so a couple of times. but it can't be done by simply changing names in the story. it can't be even done through the same piece of writing.

you can take what's essential to your fanfiction, what keeps you going, and build an entirely new universe on that. but i guess it's not really "turning fanfiction into an original story", but "playing with the ideas that you used in that fanfiction to make an original story".

actually, no, i do have something to add. if your work of fanfiction can be easily rebranded and sold as original fiction, then there’s a high possibility that it was never good fanfiction in the first place—and, in all probability, it won’t make for very good original (well, “original”) fiction either, instead remaining suspended between these two forms that each operate on a different paradigm. while i have a lot of love and respect for all kinds of derivative works (perhaps unsurprisingly, considering my perennial love affair with postmodernism), i also believe that the most rewarding fics are the ones that actively and continuously engage with their source material, therefore making it all but impossible for anyone—even the author—to simply file the serial numbers off and promote it as something else entirely; at least not without damaging the work’s internal integrity. something something mutualism (the derivative work deconstructing and expanding on the source material and so keeping it alive) as opposed to parasitism (thinking you can simply lift your blorbos wholesale and run but failing to realise that uprooting them from their respective stories will render them but a shadow of a reflection of their original selves).
