Statesman:Ablaze Ch.1: Rules
Tumblr media
(a/n: i’m not sure what happened to my original post, so here it is again. i’m having to use my phone’s hotspot and it’s not the most reliable thing so i apologize for all the mixups) ft ocs by: @sunshinepascal @harrytags @pomelloe-me & myself
“Huh, what’d you say?”
“Have you seriously not heard a word I just said, Pomegranate?” Alicia King said, sighing. Stakeouts were the worst, and usually being paired up with her good friend Pom Graham, they could be a lot of fun. But it seemed that the young southern woman’s mind wasn’t in the mint green bug they had been in for the past 5 hours.
“I said I haven’t heard you talk about Whiskey lately...everything okay with y’all?” Alicia asked her friend. Pom had until very recently jabbered on and on about the older Agent Whiskey taking her under his wing. It wasn’t often that the veteran agents took much interest in the new recruits, but Pom was a family friend and as he affectionately called her, “his little pomegranate”.
“No, the stupid cunt has been too fuckin’ busy doing shit in New York to reply to my messages,” Pom said, scrolling through her phone. She didn’t want to admit the sense of abandonment she was starting to feel. She was 24 years old, for fuck's sake, not 4.  She was usually one to share anything that was bothering her, and she knew Alicia would understand, but this was something that she wanted to keep reserved. Maybe she was just overthinking.
“Absinthe! Come in Agent Absinthe!”
Alicia reached up and lightly placed a finger on the left leg of her green aviators. Instantly she could see into the Statesman meeting room. A quick glance showed that Champagne was seated at the head of the table, and from where she (or rather her hologram) sat she could tell she was at the opposite end. Next to him was Agent Cognac and across from her was Agent Whiskey’s hologram. It still never ceased to amaze her how incredibly talented Ginger Ale was. Every weapon, every piece of equipment, hell even every fiber of clothing the agents were given all had Ginger's magic touch.
“Is Agent Rum still there with you?” Champagne asked, taking off his glasses and cleaning them with the cloth square in the front pocket of his jacket, before placing them back onto his face. He gestured towards Ginger, who walked forward from where she had been standing off to the side with her clipboard. As soon as the other Agent was present they could continue their debrief.
“The old man is asking for you” Alicia laughed, nudging Pom who had once again turned her attention to the view out her window. Pom rolled her eyes, pushing her tortoise framed glasses onto the bridge of her nose.
“You rang?” she said, making her voice deep and gravelly like Lurch, the Franken-butler from the Addams Family. The girls erupted into a fit of giggles, as Champagne shook his head in disappointment.
“She gets that tomfoolery from watching you!” He said, pointing an accusatory finger at Agent Whiskey’s hologram, the man in question shrugging with a smirk on his face. Champagne turned his attention back to the girls.
“  When y’all are finished, I’d like to carry on with this debrief  .” Alicia silently shook with the aftermath of the giggle fit she and Pom had pitched themselves into, but quickly grew serious. If Agent Whiskey was on the call it had to be of grave importance.
“Well I’ve got some good news, and some bad news,” Champagne said, regarding the two holograms at the end of the table. Agent Cognac shifted in her seat next to her boss and grandfather, she was familiar with the temperament of her two friends and braced herself for the fit they were about to throw.
“Well, the good news is we found out where those rascals are keeping the Senator's daughter hostage. The bad news is that it's not in that warehouse y’all have been staking out all evenin’.” He pulled a fat cigar out of his jacket pocket, passing it under his nose, sucking the smell of it into his nostrils.
“What the fuck, Champ?!!! You could have told us sooner!!” Pom shouted, she was seething. The color of her face turned red from anger. Not only had she already missed the weekly update of the Mandalorian on Disney+, but she had been stuck in a cramped car with a mix of Alicia’s perfume, her own deodorant, and the leftover stench of the KFC they had eaten. She was on the verge of a headache, and more importantly on the verge of beating the old man with her bat.
“I told you she was gonna be pissed.” Whiskey muttered. Champ glared at his hologram before continuing his spiel.
“As I was sayin’, Tequila was wrong; it turns out she's being held in the basement of her own house. Ginger Ale, if you’ll please?” Champ said, watching as the resident tech wiz pulled up security footage on a screen on the wall of the conference room. The Agents watched as Molly Dubois was dragged out of her house and shoved into an unmarked car, only to be returned hours later (still bound with her head in a sack) back to the mansion.
“As it turns out, with the elections coming up soon, the Senator is looking to boost his image with the voters to ensure he’s re-elected. We were able to intercept some phone calls, I’ll be sending you all the audio recordings to listen to on your own time.” Ginger said, tapping around on her clipboard. Alicia looked over at Pom, the two agents seemingly on the same brain wave. They both knew that Senator Xavier Dubois was a ruthless, greasy, piece of crap. He would do anything to keep the state of Kentucky under his control.
“What do you need us to do, Champ?” Alicia said, revving her green bug to life and buckling her seat belt. No need for discretion when it wasn’t the right location. “Pom, I know your ass is not wearing a seatbelt, bitch,” Alicia said quietly, stepping on the brake, cackling when Pom lurched forward in her seat colliding with the dashboard.
“AAARGH! Fuck you!! You didn’t have to fucking brake check me!” Pom yelled, hitting Alicia’s arm before buckling her seatbelt and crossing her arms over her chest.
“Alright kids, that’s enough! Y’all should know better than to be acting a fool and havin' an attitude during debriefs and y’all are just goofing off, actin’ like y’all ain’t got no good sense.” Champagne said harshly, watching as their holograms faded out. “Whiskey, I want you flying out to HQ asap!”
“Sure thing boss, I’m on my way.” Whiskey said, winking at Agent Cognac before his hologram also faded out.
Other agents sitting at the table began to remove their glasses, mirroring the actions of Whiskey, their respective holograms also disappearing. Champ and Agent Cognac were the only ones remaining in the room. Ginger, having slipped out quietly to return to her lab. Cognac turned, realizing her grandpa was staring at her closely. She blushed as she slipped her glasses into the pocket of her jacket.
“What?” She said, sheepishly pouring herself a glass of water. Champagne glared knowingly at her, putting an end to any other words about to come out of her cherry-red lips. After the tragic death of her parents (both statesman alum), he made it a point to take her in and continue to raise her as his own. He'd be damned if he let his granddaughter fall off onto the wrong side of the law.
“Don’t think you can pull the wool over my eyes, young lady. I may be old, but I haven’t lost my sight yet!” The elder agent said with great discipline, shaking his finger at her like she was five again. He rose from his seat, moving to stand in front of the window with his hands clasped behind his back.
“Why are you doing this to me, Carey? You know the rules! No-“
“No fraternizing with fellow Agents! I know, Grandpa,” she said, moving to stand next to him. She felt guilty; Champ had put his neck out for her countless times, hell, he was the sole reason she was still alive. The same people who had killed her parents were set out to kill her too. If he hadn't stepped in when he had….the thought of it made her shudder.
“First of all, don’t interrupt your old man, Carey Ann. Secondly, if you know you shouldn’t, why do it?! Whiskey is a highly skilled agent; but when he’s off the clock? Jack Daniels is not the kind of man I’d want dating my granddaughter.” Champagne said. Carey sighed, knowing that he was only looking out for her. But if he knew the true extent of the relationship she had with Whiskey, he would grow even more furious.
“It’s nothing, I promise! I just assist him with things around the New York offices from time to time...” She said innocently, turning to grab her jacket and head for the door.
“Well those ‘things’,” Champagne made air quotes around the words ‘things’, following the young woman with his cold gaze, “Those things better not be in his pants, missy! I’ll tan both of your hides; I don’t give a rat’s ass if you’re 30 years old, damn it!” His words falling on deaf ears, his granddaughter having already disappeared out the door. He sighed in defeat. Wrangling these kids was starting to get harder and harder.
“Lord help me.”

After an impromptu hiatus, a Pom is here once again with a massive blog update! <3
~Mako and Kiku are sporting a new theme! All the thanks yous and love in the world to @soulburnings for designing it for me, I love it so much <333
~With that in mind, literally everything has been redone! Rules, the girls’ abouts/bios, verses, relationships - With the exception of an incredibly tiny handful of things, I’ve spent the last four or so days literally rewriting everything and updating their information as a whole.
~Shipping as a whole is now CLOSED. I haven’t been all that interested in finding any more ships in quite a while for this blog, and with this redo, I’m closing it out completely. The ships I have right now are going to be the only ones I’ll have, and Kasa’s Takeru is both Mako and Kiku’s Vrains-exclusive ship. Shipping was never intended to be, and has not been, my ultimate goal, and I’m happy with the ones I have - Which means no more. The girls need friends.
~Kiku has a deck! I’ve likely mentioned it in HC posts before this, I can’t remember, but Kiku runs an Aroma archetype deck built for her by Mako and Takeru. She’s still learning the game and thus won’t really be showing it off at the moment, but she has one - And her own tag for it now exists, as well.
-Mako’s now mainly a Vrains-based OC. 99% of Mako’s development and growth has taken place in her Vrains verses in the last year, and as such, the choice to make her Vrains-based was an obvious one. Likewise, I’ve removed her GX, 5D’s, and Zexal verses from lack of use, and moved everything not her default main and pre-canon/canon Vrains verse to AU. Lightbound and Heartbound still remain her ‘canon verses’ for DM and ARC-V, they’re just not featured as main verses anymore.
~Post-canon is now the girls’ default verses. Details are on their bios and verse sections, but Kiku’s Shining Flowerfalls and Mako’s Fire In My Heart are their default verses, and where I’m more than likely going to set new threads unless requested otherwise. This does not apply to current threads, only new ones going forward.
~Anon is off. For personal reasons, I’ve turned off anon for the time being.
I’m going to start tackling threads again soon, as well as throwing down a starter call again here soon, and I do apologize for my absence. A lot of things happened all at once and threw me for a loop, and I needed to step away from writing completely - So further apologies if I end up coming off a little rusty, too! <3
If you’d rather drop any threads we might have and start something new, just feel free to drop me a message or hit the like on the starter call once I’ve got it up. <3

Walking on the Tracks - Ch. 3
Pairing: Sweet Pea x OC!Andrews
Warnings: Swearing
Summary: Natalie Andrews is dealing with the aftermath of her father run in with death, the rise of the Black Hood, her twin brother’s idiotic decisions, and high school. When her best friend, Jughead, becomes a Serpent, she finds that she is pulled into their world. Now she has to find a balance between the world she was born into and the world that is becoming her home.
Chapter One /// Two
She couldn’t believe how much of an idiot her brother was. When Natalie Andrews woke up that morning, she had received several text messages from her friends questioning her about some sort of video her brother had posted. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes as she clicked the link. The longer the video went on, the more irate she became.
“I’m going to kill him,” she muttered.
Natalie marched out of her bed and set about in search of her brother. However, the search was futile. He wasn’t home. With a grumble, she ran her fingers through her hair as she slumped back to her own room to get ready. Her anger bubbling beneath her skin.
The brunette traded her pajamas for a pair of black skinny jeans and a white crop top. After dressing, she made her way to the bathroom to finish getting ready. Her hair fell in loose curls as she double checked her reflection.
She still hadn’t heard Archie come back from wherever he had disappeared to, so she made her way down the steps for a quick breakfast. Her anger continued to simmer; bits and pieces looping in her mind.
“Morning,” she mumbled in greeting as her father joined her in the kitchen. Had he seen the video? Seeing as he wasn’t anxiously waiting for Archie’s return, she doubted it.
Although if Natalie was in Archie’s place, she would already be at school in hopes to avoid any confrontations. That would be the smart course of action.
The wavy haired girl made the two of them toast, wondering how best to bring up the video. Based off of the amount of text Natalie received before her alarm went off, she doubted Fred Andrews would make it through the day without seeing it.
Natalie thought it best that he saw it here before he was ambushed by the townspeople. Settling into the barstool beside him, she nibbled the toast debating if she should tell him about the Red Circle video first or just let him watch it.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Fred’s phone and she felt her stomach drop.
“Andrews,” he answered, “What are you talking about? No, I haven’t. Okay, thank you.”
She knew that tone could only mean one thing. Shifting in her seat anxiously, she watched as Fred pulled up the same video that she had finished watching not so long ago.
“Did you know?” his voice gruff, eyes never leaving the screen.
“No, not until I woke up,” she quietly admitted.
As the video ended, the porch door was flung open. Her eyebrows shot up as at the sight of her twin’s bright orange hair.
Shaking her head, she felt her own anger being restirred as her father began his lecture.
She was past chastising, past yelling. Her rage surrounded her, turning her frigid. She dropped her empty plate into the sink, pushing past her brother and out the front door.
It didn’t take long for Archie to catch up to Natalie. She sped walked as fast as she could to put space between them, but he had a longer stride.
“I took it down,” he said, trying to gain her attention, “I did, but I don’t regret it.”
Natalie froze. She gave a short sarcastic snort as she slowly turned towards him.
Her lips formed a thin line as she took a step closer to him.
“You don’t regret it?” her voice was hushed as she tried to hold herself back.
“Something had to be done. The Black Hood needed to know that we won’t cower. That we will fight him,” Archie defended, his voice growing louder with each word.
Natalie shoved him. Her features contorted in pure fury.  “Are you listening to yourself? Are you trying to get yourself killed? Archie, How can you even d-”
“Dad was shot!” he screams.
Natalie stiffens. Anger and fear swirl around her. She wants to shove him. She wants to cry. She wants to scream. Yet she stays silent, keeping everything but anger locked away. Anger, fury, rage, those were what made up her shield as her brother stood shouting at her in the street.
“He was shot, Natalie! I am not going to just sit by while the man who almost killed our dad is still out there on the loose, causing more chaos,” he towered over her.
Natalie’s lips formed into a thin line as she glared up at her brother. Her fury almost tangible on her tongue.
Her lips curled. Her short frame shook as she fought to keep control of herself.
“Yet you make him, you, even me a target. You goad him- that psychopath on,” her voice low as she glared up at him.
“Do you know what I think, Archibald?” she spat. His nose flared at the sound of his full name, spurring the brunette on. “You’re too weak to admit that you’re just as scared. It’s no secret that you stay up guarding the door, but have you ever asked about me? I have nightmares almost every night. Some nights, it’s dad that dies. Some nights, it’s you. Each time I have to reassure myself that it was just a dream, but then you go and post that stupid fucking video. Now I-”
Natalie stops herself. She didn’t want to continue. She didn’t want to conjure up the images.
Archie pulls her into his arm, patting her back like they were kids. That’s when she felt the tears that were dripping from her face. She hadn’t noticed them fall.
Immediately, she pushed his arms away and wiped at her face. No tears. No crying. Be strong.
“Nat, I know-”
She shook her head, cutting him off, “No, you don’t.” Her eyes burned into his, not letting him speak as she pushed on, “I was terrified when Pop called saying that Dad was hurt. But you, you and your ‘Red Circle’ it’s nothing more than a target, a target on you, a target on me, but most of all a target on dad.”
The brunette shoved her brother again and stalked off towards the school. She dragged the rough sleeve of her jean jacket against her face, hoping that no one would notice her flushed cheeks.
Each time someone approached her about the Red Circle video, Natalie answered with a scoff and a roll of the eyes. She was ready for the whole thing to blow over.
Her only solitude from the bombardment of questions from her fellow students was in the presence of her twin and their mutual friends at lunch. The very mention of the video caused the girl to tense up.
Natalie tried to keep her attention on Kevin and Betty for the duration of lunch. Kevin updated her and Betty on his search for love, or at least a decent hook up, on the internet. He had some exchanges, but nothing that seemed date-worthy.
He showed a photo of someone that look their age and went by the name Blake. He was tanned and appeared to be lean, but built. Reading some of the flirty exchanges to her and Betty, he seemed excited to meet him tonight for, what he hoped to be, a steamy rendezvous.
Natalie glanced at Betty. Normally she was thrilled to hear about Kevin’s love life, but she seemed just as distracted as the rest of the table.
When the bell rang to signal lunch was over, she placed a hand on the blonde’s shoulder. Betty’s pale eyes met her own anxiously.
“Is everything alright, Betty? You seem… distracted?” she quietly prodded.
“Yeah, Nat. Everything is fine,” she smiled, “I got to get to class. I’ll talk to you later.”
The blonde quickly left, leaving Natalie confused. She and Betty were not best friends, but they had known each other most of their lives. The two had grown closer working with everyone over the Jason Blossom case, but here she was, watching Betty keep something hidden.
She didn’t know what it was, but the youngest Cooper had always been easy to read.
With a sigh, Natalie threw out the remainders of her lunch. She wasn’t going to pry. If Betty wanted her to know, then she would tell her. Still, she had thought the had grown close enough that they could share their problems, but Natalie was wrong. Betty held back whatever was going on, and she held back about her interactions with a certain Serpent.
Kevin hovered by the doors.
“You didn’t say anything about Sweet Pea,” the lilt marking the question.
“Uh, yeah,” she played with tips of her hair, “We sort of have a date Wednesday night.” She nervously smiled at Kevin, who gasped.
“Spill, now,” he demanded as he pulled her towards their next class. Natalie kept her voice shushed as she quickly filled him on her encounter outside of Jughead’s trailer.
After classes ended, Natalie made her way to the gym’s locker rooms. Football season should still be underway. However, an uncertainty lingered as the football teamed was dismissed by Principal Weatherbee until the Red Circle was disbanded.
While competition season still lurked in the shadow for most, Cheryl and Natalie knew the team still had a ways to go before they were ready. Therefore, Vixen practice would still continue, taking advantage of the uncertainty.
Natalie tied up her long dark hair into a ponytail. As she changed into the Vixen’s practice uniform, she saw Betty and Veronica enter, their heads bent towards each other as they spoke in whispers. She gave them a quick smile that the two didn’t seem to notice before a voice cut through her thoughts.
“Look who’s fallen to the outer circle,” a smug smile clear in Cheryl’s voice.
“Look who’s acting like they haven’t always been on the outside,” Natalie snapped back. The flare in the redhead’s eyes caused Natalie to bite her tongue. Shit. It was going to be a rough day for the two.
She knew Cheryl was right. With Natalie and Archie’s recent fighting and Jughead now at Southside High, she was starting to feel isolated. She had Kevin, but she couldn’t cling to him all the time. She and Veronica had never been close. Even Betty seemed to be hiding something.
Natalie laced up her sneakers and readjusted their blue pom poms before heading out into the gym to stretch. She would not let the Blossom rattle her. She needed all of her focus today. The team needed to work on their tumbling and she would have to be the one demonstrating, since Cheryl refused to break a sweat for something she expected the others to already know.
The hour and a half sped by and the two captains were better able to evaluate who could handle the tumbling choreography. If it wasn’t for the Black Hood, then the Vixens would have had to stay longer to cover the routines as well. Fortunately for the girls, neither captain wanted to stay until after dusk, so with a wave of her hand, Cheryl dismissed the girls.
Natalie exhaled a loud groan. Even when she got home, the drama of Archie’s video was still haunted her. Veronica had messaged the River Vixen group chat that evening about her plans for the next school day.
Natalie muted the group, ignoring the girls’ collaboration on some even of support tomorrow. The only good thing Natalie could see happening, if Veronica’s plan went accordingly, is the target on her brother would be smaller. At least, that’s what she hoped.
When her phone buzzed, she thought maybe she hadn’t properly muted the messages. Instead, Sweet Pea’s name was plastered at the top.
Sweet Pea: Hey princess, still too busy to message?
Natalie face split with her smile. She flopped onto her stomach, typing back to him.
Natalie: Giraffe :) I might be able to spare a moment or two
Sweet Pea: Good. Tell me, anything interesting happen today?
Natalie: Mmm. My brother did something stupid and now I’m dealing with the backlash. You?
Sweet Pea: It couldn’t be as bad as that crazy-ass video. If someone hadn’t said no tonight, I bet I would have made your night worth it ;)
Natalie chewed her lip at the first part of his message. She hardly knew the guy. Did she say it was her brother in that video?
Natalie: Haha, you’d be surprised. Oh yeah? What makes you so sure?
Sweet Pea: You’ll just have to wait until Wednesday to find out
Natalie buried her face in her pillow. Her heart quickened in anticipation for their date, making it hard for her to fall asleep.
The next day, she found her face being blocked by a pile of shirts from the town’s New York Diva.
“No, Veronica. There was a reason why I didn’t respond to any of that nonsense yesterday,” Natalie tried moving past her, but the hall was cramped with more Vixens and shirts.
“There’s strength in numbers. Don’t you want to support your brother?” she questioned with a quirked brow.
“Not when he’s being an idiot,” she shook her head and moved down the hall past the rest of the River Vixen squad. Archie was her brother and she would do anything for him. She would fight anyone who would try to hurt him, but he was the one putting himself in harm's way. She couldn’t do anything to stop him; she could only let him figure it out on his own.
Natalie could hear Veronica still calling out her name as she tried to speed away.
When she got to her locker with Veronica still on her heels, Kevin was waiting there, scrolling through his phone.
“Any more cuties?” she asked, wondering if the Red State Meat had hooked him any new fish.
He only rolled his eyes, “No one for you, besides you have your own now.”
“Aww, come on. You can’t keep them all to yourself, and he is not mine. We haven’t even gone out on a date yet,” she knocked her shoulder into his. Earning an annoyed expression from her best friends.
“What’s this about a date?” the raven-haired girl asked. Natalie quietly sighed.
“Just someone I’ve been talking to. I haven’t told Archie I even have a date, since we haven’t spoken much since the video,” Natalie considered the girl, still holding the propaganda shirts. It was vague enough that neither her or Archie would piece together who it was.
She didn’t want to jinx anything with Sweet Pea, let alone deal with her brother’s hate for the Serpents before she had a chance to see if anything would even become of the date.
“Does this mystery boy have a name?” Veronica lifted her eyebrows suggestively.
Natalie chuckled nervously. She knew whatever she told Veronica would get back to both Archie and Betty.
“He does, but I don’t want to start rumors before anything good has happened,” she settles on. It was enough to satisfy the socialite, who wished her good luck on her date before leaving Natalie nad Kevin alone.
“I’m going to head to the Blue and Gold room in a minute to meet up with Betty. I still have to talk to her about telling my dad, but I also had some ideas to share. Did you want to come with?” he asked.
“I already sent her the new photos for this week’s issue, so I’ll pass. But I will see you at lunch. And you will tell me all about your meet up with Blake,” she playfully smiled as he left.
Natalie awoke Wednesday morning with a sense of excitement. She tossed her hair into a bun and threw on the first clothes that she came across, knowing that she would spend more time getting ready for her dinner with Sweet Pea tonight.
“Don’t forget tonight I’m going to the town hall meeting,” her dad reminded the twins as she cleared off the scraps from breakfast.
“Kevin and I have plans for tonight,” she noticed her dad opening his mouth, “He is picking me up. I’m not walking anywhere alone.”
Fred nodded, “Just be safe.”
Natalie nodded. Her gut twisted at the small lie, but she didn’t want to get bombarded with questions about her date, or even worse they both stick around to bombarded Sweet Pea with questions. In Archie’s case, more likely accusations.
As the two siblings silently made their way towards the school, Natalie’s stomach fluttered thinking about tonight’s date.
She could hardly pay attention through her first classes as she happily doodled in the margins of her notes. She wanted tonight to go well. Her thoughts flickered from excitement to worry that she would make an embarrassment of herself.
As she moved to her next class, she slid into the seat beside Kevin. He had a knowing smile on his face.
“I expect you to call me when you get home tonight,” his tone warning.
Natalie rolled her eyes, knowing that she would tell him everything the second she was back home. The class continued on, but she felt the distinct vibration from her phone.
She waited until the teacher turned to write something on the board before sneaking it out.
Sweet Pea: I gotta cancel. Something came up.
“What’s wrong?” Kevin whispered, noticing her sudden crestfallen face.
Natalie tilted the screen towards him.
His eyes quickly scanned the message, frowning.
“I’m sorry, Nat,” his glanced up to check that the teacher was still turned away.
Kevin fiddled with his pen, watching Natalie struggle to find a way to respond to the text.
“You know what? I am not letting that new outfit go to waste. I am picking you up at eight for Pop’s. I’ll be your escort.”
Natalie felt her lips lift in something resembling a smile. She was still disappointed that Sweet Pea had canceled, but at least she had Kevin, someone she always knew she could count on.
“Sounds great,” she agreed.
The rest of the day passed slowly for Natalie. Each class seemed to drag on as the teachers droned. She tried to distract herself with the latest gossip, but it all seemed to go in one ear and out the other. The only good thing to look forward to was her night with Kevin, which wasn’t that special as the pair often spent time together.
She didn’t hear from Sweet Pea for the rest of the day, which only served to worsen her mood.
“You’re going to give yourself wrinkles if you keep that up,” Cheryl chimed, leaning against the locker beside Natalie.
“I know Archie getting banned from campus isn’t-”
“He what?” Natalie cut her off.
“You didn’t know? It’s all over the school. What rock are you hiding under?” Cheryl gave Natalie a disbelieving look.
Natalie starred, her mouth agape. She couldn’t understand what was going on with Archie. The Red Circle, the video, now suspension - it was beginning to become too much.
Cheryl patted her arm, leaving the girl to think. Really, what Natalie wanted was to not think, to just have a night out away from everything that was going. If it wasn’t going to be with Sweet Pea, then she was glad to have Kevin.
When it was around six, she began to get ready for ‘date.’
Natalie was going to make sure she looked stunning. The very thought of Sweet Pea missing out on it brought her some comfort.
The brunette hooked her phone up to a speaker as she played music, taking her time to get ready.
Since she had the outfit ready, she spent most of her time perfecting her purple smokey eye and winged eyeliner. She paired it with a nude lipstick before taming her curls. Natalie slide on her pre-planned outfit: a fitted black lace top with a bright purple skirt on.
When she was finished, she shut off her music and slipped on her heels. The room filled with silence. In the background, she could hear her brother’s muffled shouts. What was going on? Their dad left a while ago for the town meeting, so who was he fighting with?
Cautiously, Natalie followed the sounds of the voices. As she neared the bottom of the staircase, she relaxed. It was Veronica.
“- an idiot. I’m trying to support you by designing T-shirts.”
“I didn’t ask you to do that,” Archie countered. The two were in such a heated argument, that neither one had noticed the sound of Natalie’s heels as she stood in the archway of the living room.
“No, you just asked me to fetch your loaded gun. And by the way, in case you’re wondering where it is, I threw it in Sweetwater River.” Natalie’s pursed her lips into a thin line. Gun? Where did Archie get a gun from?
“What?” her brother asked. Archie’s gaze flickered to Natalie, finally noticing her. His eyes widened, unsure how much his sister had heard of the conversation.
“And you can be mad at me now, but you’ll thank me for it later.”
“I’ll thank you right now,” she smiled sharply at Veronica, who spun to look at her. “After all, neither one of us needs him to stir up any more trouble.” Her eyes narrowing at the redhead.
A knock on the door jarred them from their conversation. With a glance at the door, Natalie looked over to see Reggie’s smile through the window. Her brother and his girlfriend came up behind her as Natalie opened the door.
“Can we come in?”
She moved aside, ignoring the way Reggie’s eyes lingered on her exposed legs.
“Looking good, Nat,” he smirked. She rolled her eyes as he set the pizzas down on the coffee table. Not caring much about what the boy had to say, she lifted a box and stole a pepperoni.
“Well, Kevin is picking me up soon. I’m going to wait outside and leave you to figure your stuff out,” she told them as she popping the meat into her mouth. She tried her best to act as if nothing had just happened. She didn’t want the football team to know about the gun. It would only make things worse.
Natalie waved before slamming the door behind her. The air was thick with humidity as she headed for the edge of the sidewalk. She debated on going back for an umbrella, but her phone chimed, distracting her.
Kevin: Just a couple minutes away
The roar of the motorcycles heading down her street caused the brunette to follow the oncoming noise. When they stopped in front of her house, she didn’t have a clue what was going on. None of the boys were Jughead. Why would they be at her house?
The four leather-clad boys dismounted from their bikes.
“Can I help you?” Natalie called out. Instantly, her eyes fell on the one leading the group. Sweet Pea’s eyes moved to the hem of her skirt, up to where he cleavage peaked out, then finally up to her eyes. His gaze heated.
“Skyscraper, I thought you canceled,” she raised her brow, looking at the other three guys behind him.
“I did,” the corner of his mouth twisting in a frown as he looked between her and the house, “Did you have another date I didn’t know about?”
“Maybe,” she playfully smirked at him. He didn’t seem amused by her teasing. As if on cue, Kevin pulled up in his dad’s truck.
One of the other boys stepped up, pulling her attention away.
“We are looking for Andrews,” he snapped. Natalie pursed her lips at the interruption from the stranger.
“Yeah?” she asked, unsure what he was referring to. Her eyes trailed back to Sweet Pea to see if he would clarify why he and three other Serpents were doing in her yard.
His brows were furrowed as he looked you over. His face, initially confused, seemed to realize something. His eyes grew cold as his lips thinned out.
“Archie Andrews,” Sweet Pea stated, his tone suddenly clipped.
“What did he do now?” she sighed as she looked over her shoulder to see Veronica peeking through the panels on the top of the front door.
“You know him?” the curly-haired boy who had interrupted her early asked.
“Yeah? He’s my brother,” she made a face at him. She thought that if they were here looking for him and knew where he lived, then they would know that she was his twin.
Sweet Pea’s face was grim as he looked away from the wavy haired girl. None of the other leather-clad boys spoke. The silence was heavy. Natalie kept her eyes trained on Sweet Pea’s until he would look at her.
When he finally did, his lips curved into a sneer.
“Have fun on that date, Northsider,” his voice dripping with malice as he pushed past the small girl.
Natalie turned in confusion as the boys pounded up her porch steps.
“What the hell?” she sputtered, but he kept moving towards her front door. She dragged a hand through her hair, feeling her rage at the Serpent bubbly in her stomach.
The front door swung open to the Serpents and she could practically smell the testosterone from the edge of her lawn.
“Let’s get out of here,” she snapped at Kevin as she slammed the truck door shut.
“What’s that about?” Kevin leaned around Natalie to stare at the lettermans and leather on her front porch.
“I don’t know and don’t care. Let’s get out of her,” she repeated, her tone calloused.

The First Deadpool MCU Crossover Is Unexpected to Say the Least
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
It makes perfect sense that Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi would get together to promote their upcoming movie Free Guy, but no one was expecting the pair to show up as Deadpool and Korg in a brand new YouTube trailer reaction video.
This marks the first time that Deadpool has officially appeared in an MCU character crossover and signals that plans to include him in the Marvel blockbuster juggernaut are still very much afoot after some time passing with no update on Deadpool 3’s MCU status.
Waititi voices Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War’s super casual Kronan rock warrior Korg as he joins Reynolds in full Deadpool attire on the couch to check out the trailer for Free Guy in the new footage, and the pair trade comedic barbs before the Merc With a Mouth eventually signs off with “I preferred The Dark World.” Oof.
Free Guy has been delayed no less than three times, but was in development at 20th Century Fox before Disney swooped in to acquire the studio and so ended up being one of the first Fox films to fully progress under Disney ownership. Meanwhile, the R-rated Deadpool 3 was earmarked for MCU integration and has slowly moved forward at Marvel Studios along with star and producer Reynolds attached to reprise his role as Wade Wilson. Sisters Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin (Bob’s Burgers) were last heard to be handling the script.
You can see Deadpool and Korg reacting to the Free Guy trailer below…
Marvel maestro Kevin Feige confirmed back in January that the studio’s Deadpool threequel was eyeing a 2022 filming start date at the earliest due to the already-packed MCU production schedule and Reynolds’ availability.
“Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor,” he explained. “We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”
In Free Guy, Reynolds plays Guy, an NPC bank teller in an open world video game called Free City who becomes aware of his surroundings thanks to an intriguing program developed by Milly (Jodie Comer) and Keys (Joe Keery), which is inserted into the game by its publisher Antoine (Waititi). Guy is then in a race against time to save the game before the devs shut it down.
“I haven’t been this fully immersed and engaged in something since Deadpool,” Reynolds said of Free Guy at NYCC 2019. “I think we live in really weird times right now, you’re watching the news and the top story today is ‘it’s the end of the world.’ I felt a kinship to the character in that you can sometimes feel like a background character. The world is on loop and you have no control over what’s happening.”
Waititi is currently deep in post-production on his next MCU installment, Thor: Love and Thunder. The highly anticipated fourquel will see Chris Hemsworth once again star as the God of Thunder alongside Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, and Vin Diesel. It’s set to open on May 6, 2022 – probably without Deadpool, but we won’t count it out just yet. That movie looks to be utterly bonkers.
Free Guy will be released on August 13th.

Review 2: Yume Twins October Box
Tumblr media
Welcome to the first official Yume Twins crate content review on the blog! I got this box the same week I got my Doki Doki box if I remember right, and once again it comes with a funny story.
I actually didn’t know when this box was going to arrive. Around midnight our neighbor was returning home and happened to mention it had been sitting outside since they left, hours earlier in the day...
As you can see by the cover of the booklet, the theme involves kawaii goods.
(Like Doki Doki, the cover usually hints at the contents~)
Tumblr media
I love decorative bento~
The contents of this book:
Page 2 and 3 - content focus. Very simple but pleasing to the eye.
Page 4 and 5 - The content of the box. (Did anyone else notice they wrote September on this page, while everything else said October??)
Page 6 - Related to a product within the box. For this specific one, it talked about the unique facial pack.
Page 7 - The current monthly contest.
Tumblr media
Page 8 and 9 - The Yume Prize! The special box any subscriber can win. This box included 11 items and once again I find myself targeting a single thing in it: The Sentimental Circus Plushie. I’m obsessed with Sentimental Circus~
The Halloween Rilakkuma headband was also very cute ;3 as was the pink kitty Korilakkuma hand towel. I loved how everything in the Yume Prize box was practical; especially that lollipop! Everyone needs a pinch of sweetness now and then~
Page 10 and 11 - Fan content, along with website or branding updates or information.
For the month of October, each user could receive 8 items, 5 of which offered variety, something I LOVE.
Variety is the spice of life after all~
Tumblr media
Masquerade Design Facial Packet - basically a face mask, but with a very colorfun (fun fact: I was trying to type “Colorful and fun” when that happened) design. There were 2 possible styles, this one and the “green dot“, an elegant facial packet featuring heavy tones of teal and purple and dot designs.
I actually didn’t use this yet. But I will, I promise. I love facial packets after a long, tiring day (or just at my ultimate stress peak). If anyone wants a follow-up on it be sure to leave a message, I can make a post about it when I finally use it.
YumeTwins Original Halloween Sticker - An exclusive item if you’re signed up with Yumetwins. I thought this was just precious, and I actually kind of favor the twin-tails... twin(?), and the adorableness of this sticker was too hard to ignore. It went right into my Kawaii Japanese sticker collection~
I’m really hoping to see some more YumeTwins original content at some point. I adore the twins and their magical, slightly dark cuteness~
Tumblr media
This is actually a funny story. For the past few years I have become obsessed with Re-Ment. I’m also obsessed with Hello Kitty and had always wanted to collect Re-Ment, but I don’t have a place to display them DX I never thought I’d be able to get any, even though I REALLY wanted quite a few (coughseveralcough).
Then, this happened. They put in one of the sets I wanted!
Hello Kitty Cat Cafe - 8 sets of ultimate kawaii in the form of Hello Kitty, her beloved kittens, Charmmy and Honey Cute (both I adore as much as Kitty), and cameos by their Sanrio friends! Also includes gum.
Can you believe I actually got the set I wanted (besides tea time) the most??
For those curious, the other sets are:
1. Welcome - featuring Kitty in a cat costume with some cat items.
2. Sleepy - A cat home with simple relaxing items, such as a magazine and a nice drink. Also featured a Cinnamoroll plush.
3. Grooming - A set meant to spoil Charmmy. Featuring the silly Badtz-Maru and Cinnamoroll.
4. Playing - Tons of toys for the kitty in your life. Includes a tiny Kirimichan.
5. Suppertime - A cute, food-themed set including a Kitty made of omelette rice, and a pack featuring Pom Pom Purin.
6. Loving Toys - The one I got. Did you see the Pom Pom Purin ball~?
7. 3-D Foods - A specialty meal featuring a hello kitty table, utensils, and a tray of food. Includes a sleeping kitty made of rice, Pom Pom Purin, and My Melody.
8. Tea Time - the other set I REALLY wanted. I have a weak spot for cute translucent things x3 Includes kitty ice cream with utensils, tray, a Hello Kitty device, and a Cinnamoroll treat.
Tumblr media
Standing Cat Toothbrush - Available in 4 colors, this brush makes brushing fun! I actually mean that btw. I brush my teeth like any other person, but since getting this I actually don’t stand there the entire time wishing I was still in bed. It’s so cute, and the suction cup on the bottom really works!
Available in Black and Pink, violet and white, white and lavender, and pink and pale pink. I essentially go the one I wanted, although all the colors are pleasing to the eye.
Despite the shape of the toothbrush, its also nice to grip and comfortable, and its not some dollar store novelty brush.
Shinada Koishi-tai Plushie - An adorable little plush perfect for the purse or just carrying around. It’s so soft and fun to squish. These adorable creatures are said to bring luck towards your romance life and come in four colors: Pink, Yellow, Brown, and pale pink.
(You can tell if you got the pale pink or normal pink by the heart on top of its head <3)
Snoopy Riceball Shapers - A three-pack set celebrating the recent spike in Snoopy’s popularity as of late. Apparently it does come in a variety of colors, because mine are pink, blue, and yellow, while the book shows them in blue, green, and yellow. Also includes one Woodstock shape.
I also noticed you can use these for other things. Do you own Rice ball shapers? Have you done anything with them besides make rice balls??
Tumblr media
Komasan Fluffy Pouch - I can talk about this in one word: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
A few of my friends already know this, but Komasan is my favorite Yo-Kai <3
I found him peeking out of my purse, because I use him and bring him everywhere I go. If you’re curious, I use him to carry Lip-Gloss, Lip Balm, Lipstick, and body spray.
The pouch itself is very well-made and soft. It’s as fluffy as its name suggests~
It’s every Cuties favorite time now! The Ranking!
Quality - Everything came in perfect condition. Nothing was torn or stained. 5 out of 5.
Content - 8 items for 29 dollars. Compared to the first Doki Doki Crate, I definitely feel like out of the two this one was more worth its price. 5 out of 5.
Practicality - Definitely 5 out of 5! I’ve used nearly everything in the box by now. I use the toothbrush and Komasan daily. This brand is well-aware of how cute practical items can be!
Total Rank: 15 out of 15 Cuties!!
While I was left with a great impression after receiving my first box, I ended up favoring this box of the two almost instantly. I couldn’t think of one thing to complain about, and everything came in perfect form!

Best RTAs 2018
Best RTA vapes
Welcome to the Vaping360 Best RTA vapes list of 2018. RTAs (rebuildable tank atomizers) are a lot like sub ohm tanks with RBA decks, but typically RTAs will not come with an option for pre-built coils and they generally will offer more flexibility with fine tuning your vaping experience. With countless options for build decks, wicking channels, coil configurations and tank capacities for your e-liquid, RTAs may just be the optimal experience for convenience, performance, and for control of your vape!
Our Best RTA vapes of 2018 list will be a guide for all those out there that either vape with sub ohm tanks and want to start with RTAs, or maybe even those out there that already use RTAs but want a bit of help deciding on the next one. Even RDA users can easily adapt with tanks now since many rebuildable tank atomizers are increasingly designed like build decks on drippers (watch how many times we use the phrase “Velocity-style posts”!)
We made this Best RTA vapes list to show the Best RTAs we consider to be solid choices in an increasingly saturated market of 2018. Not all readers will agree with our choices in RTAs, but this is what we are going with until something else bumps an RTA out of its spot. Updates and amendments will be on an ongoing basis and happening soon.
Anyway….
Sit back and enjoy our list for the Best RTAs. Vape on! Read on.

Versatility is the name of the game with the Merlin Mini, a collaboration between Augvape and Roxy. With both single and dual coil decks this is a 24 mm diameter RTA to appeal to all vapers. Two airflow reducers for the single coil deck aimed at mouth-to-lung vapers. Generous top fill slots with a threaded cap, 2 mL juice capacity, completely adjustable airflow and ability to wrap coils in either direction for both decks make the Merlin Mini a winner.
The 18 mm single coil deck contains dual offset posts allowing large inside diameter (ID) coils of exotic wire. The below coil airflow is 4.5 mm unrestricted, and 1.5 mm and 2 mm airflow inserts are included to reduce the atomizer to a satisfying mouth-to-lung draw. The 18 mm dual coil deck utilizes Velocity styled posts and dual 3 mm by 5 mm below coil airflow. Both decks are fed by dual adjustable airslots located on the base.
Both decks on the Merlin Mini are a cinch to build on and wick. Machining is immaculate and devoid of machine oil. Airflow is very smooth in all configurations, but take care not to lose small parts like the airflow reducers.

The deck is a gold-plated postless set-up that accepts single or dual coil builds. The deck receives its airflow from two slanted side-sots and two square holes underneath the coils. While the Kylin can accept single coils, it’s optimized for dual coils of exotic coil types due to the dual-directional airflow.
If you are into lip smackin’ flavor and luscious vapor, the Kylin RTA needs to be on your list. It’s also immaculately constructed. The OBS Engine RTA is a great value for performance and ease of use for mid-range wattage. A 25 mm RTA that has top fill and top airflow with 5.2 mL of juice that uses the industry-standard Velocity-style deck. The deck is ideal for dual coils with single-strand wire or smaller diameter Claptons wire.
The OBS Engine is a good choice for intermediate users in the RTA world. Solid flavor, nice vapor, ease of build, and a great price point. It can be a bit tricky to get the wicks to the right size due to the individual wick holes, but keeping that in mind, it can be figured out fairly quickly. The draw is an open hit for direct lung vaping, but it’s got a tad bit of resistance compared to cloud chucking RTAs. If you’re on a tight budget, the Engine is a good choice.

The Vandy Vape Kylin Mini combines the honeycomb 180-degree airflow of the OG Kylin, with a smaller chamber and a single-coil build deck. Flavor is still amazing, the Kylin Mini is no less of a stunner than its bigger brother. They even managed to squeeze one extra mL of e-liquid in the straight glass configuration of the Mini, while significantly reducing the size. Sorcery…
If you liked the original, you are going to love the Mini. One thing to remember: you might have to comb your wicks a little more with this one, to avoid dry hits. In any case, that’s a small price to pay for the Kylin Mini’s awesome flavor.

User manual
The Ares is an RTA from Innokin’s Platform series, a line catering specifically to beginners, smokers and mouth-to-lung vapers. Phil Busardo and Dimitris Agrafiotis (VapinGreek), two popular vaping YouTubers, worked together with Innokin to design this tank.
The Ares RTA is 24 mm in diameter and holds 4 mL of juice. It’s designed for single-coil building and incorporates some of the top features available right now like easy to use build deck and top fill. The tank also comes with pre-made coils and other goodies like wire, building tools and organic cotton for wicking. It has an airier draw than your average MTL RTA, making it also suitable for restrictive DL vaping.
Introduction to RTAs
There are three styles of rebuildable atomizers: RTAs (Rebuildable Tank Atomizers), RDAs (Rebuildable Dripping Atomizers) and Genesis atomizers. A fourth category called an RDTA, for Rebuildable Dripping Tank Atomizer, has also been created, but for the purposes of this article they will be considered the same as RTAs. All three styles use a coil or coils made by the user by wrapping wire around a small rod; generally 24 mm in diameter. The user then must also create a wick to transport the e liquid to the coil(s).
Vapers use a variety of wire to wrap coils. Kanthal A1 can be used in variable wattage (VW) mode on all mods because it has very stable resistance when heated. Other wire types must be used in temperature control (TC) mode due to their varying resistance when heated. These wire types would be ni200 and titanium (ti grade 1). Stainless steel has a slight variation in resistance when heated and can be used in both VW and TC modes.
Many different types of wicking materials can also be used for vaping in rebuildable atomizers. Cotton or rayon are most commonly used in RTAs and RDAs. Stainless steel mesh rolled into a tube is usually used in Genesis atomizers.
What is an RTA?
How does an RTA differ from other types of atomizers? RTAs generally have a building deck where the user puts the coil(s) at the bottom, while the tank for e liquid sits above the deck. Depending on the size of the RTA it may hold anywhere from 2 ml to 10 ml of juice. A chimney section surrounds the deck. Air enters the deck from beneath or next to the coils and rises through the chimney’s stem to the drip tip. Side airflow RTAs are often termed RDTAs. Many newer RTAs also have top airflow that comes down through the outside of the chimney stem to the coils, and then back up to the drip tip. RTAs contain slots or holes in the deck to allow e liquid to feed through the cotton wick(s) to the coil(s).
An RDA differs from an RTA by having a small well in the bottom to hold e liquid, and tend to have significantly less capacity. The coil(s) also are in the bottom of the atomizer, and the wick(s) dip down into the well of juice to feed the coil(s). They do not have a chimney section since the juice is below the level of the coil(s). Instead they have a top cap that sits on top of the building deck. Air enters from the top, bottom or sides and rises up from the top cap to the drip tip.
A Genesis atomizer seems like a combination of an RDA and an RTA. It has a tank, like an RTA, but it sits at the bottom of the atomizer below the build deck. Due to the location of the tank section it is similar to a very large RDA well. Wicking is achieved by rolled stainless steel mesh tubes which feed the e liquid up to the coil(s). Genesis atomizers also have a top cap like an RDA and, likewise, air flows from that directly up to the drip tip. Many current popular atomizers are a hybrid of the Genesis style by having a bottom tank and upper build deck, but use cotton wicking like an RTA. Some of these hybridized style atomizers are also termed RDTAs.
Advantages of RTAs over other atomizers
RTAs offer some advantages to vapers compared to sub ohm tanks, RDAs or Genesis atomizers. The primary benefit over Subohm tanks is the freedom from buying factory coil heads. Wrapping coil(s) offers a huge savings over purchasing them. An entire roll of wire can make several coils at approximately the same cost as one or two factory made coil heads. Additionally, the user is less likely to run out of wire at an inopportune time since a roll of wire may last months or years. Similarly, a package of organic cotton or box of rayon for wicking may also last months, years or even decades. Moreover, the user of Subohm tanks must rely on the manufacturer to continue providing coil heads for purchase, while the RTA user does not. With FDA regulations in effect, factory coil heads for Subohm tanks may no longer be available to US vapers in two years (or less).
RTAs edge out RDAs in two categories. The first is e liquid capacity. Users of RDAs must continually drip more juice into their atomizer. Vapers of RDAs must carry bottles of e liquid with them, and this can create a dangerous situation if the user is dripping and driving. An RTA with large capacity may provide vaping enjoyment all day at work before needing refilled. The second merit of RTAs over RDAs is that most do not leak if they are not kept upright. Because an RDA does not use a chimney section it will dump juice if sideways or inverted.
Many vapers find RTAs easier to coil and wick than Genesis atomizers. This is because the user must oxidize the stainless steel mesh on a Genesis, and then work out hot spots where the mesh makes contact with the coil(s). Also, like RDAs, Gennys tend to leak when not kept upright.
Tips and tricks for RTAs
A few helpful tips can guide vapers in using RTAs. The first suggestion is to be sure the coil(s) span the air slots, especially on a bottom airflow atomizer. Too short coil length allows the wick(s) to drip e liquid into the air holes, which leads to gurgling and even flooding. Another trick to prevent flooding is to be sure the wick(s) do not allow e liquid to flow past them onto the deck. The wick tails must adequately block the juice feeding slots or holes. However, if the RTA begins to dry hit, then the user has too much wick blocking or hindering the flow of e liquid. Finding the perfect balance is key to top performance. Most modern RTAs allow the user to access the build deck at any time for rewicking, and are highly recommended for beginners and reluctant builders. Finally, be sure not to overfill the RTA. Leaving an air bubble allows juice to adequately flow to the wicks and exchange air for vaporized liquid.

Who Puts An 100-Year-Old Bed In A Little Girl’s Room? Um, We Do.
We have SO MANY posts that we want to write for you guys (we’re currently working on a full living room update post – and one about all the appliances and window blinds we got for the beach house). But ever since we shared a picture of the kids bedding we picked up at HomeGoods for our daughter’s room in the podcast show notes for Episode #69, we’ve been meaning to share a room update.
Because dang it, kids grow up. And sometimes they don’t want their 7-year-old room to look like their “little kid” room anymore (please can’t 7 still be little?!). So here’s how our daughter’s room has grown up a bit – but not too much. Thank goodness there aren’t New Kids On The Block posters (or their 2017 equivalent) quite yet. I know they’re coming! You might remember that it used to look like this right after she upgraded from a crib to a daybed back in the day (I think this was taken when she was 3, sniff!).
And we later got her a larger bed and made a few other changes at her request (we shared this post over a year ago, but mentioned we still wanted to tackle a few things, like adding a headboard, etc).
Well, a few months later she told us she didn’t want the canopy anymore. So down it came. And with the canopy gone (which you can also see around the 3-minute mark of this video house tour we did last year) the raindrops were looking pretty weird. Some were even half-painted along the line where the canopy once sat. We considered just touching them up, but they were dubbed “too babyish” by our girl, so over the last several months we’ve been making some little tweaks here and there – including a new paint color on the walls to cover up those drops. We sanded them slightly, then primed, and then just used two coats of White Heron by Sherwin Williams. It totally covered them and the entire wall feels flat to the touch. Whew.
Also, because I’m neurotic, it should be noted that our tiny client has now decided that she likes the purple side of her comforter better, so these room photos all look slightly odd to me because I’ve already become used to the purple side being up, and I have to tell you: SHE’S A BETTER DECORATOR THAN I AM, because it looks so much better that way. I have no idea why, but the cooler purple pattern just works with the rug so nicely. Still might change out the curtains someday – but on the whole it’s looking a lot more finished lately.
Certainly a far cry from the room we started with:
But back to that headboard that we mentioned we were searching for, oh, over a year. We eventually found this treasure on craigslist for $90 (yes, I’m 35 and I call old wooden things treasures now). It’s a complete bed with side rails and a footboard (the seller said it’s 100 years old and it actually has holes in the frame to wind rope around to support an old straw mattress!). There are newer comparable beds that are $1000+ (like this one from Wayfair), so yes yes yes to this craigslist find! For anyone looking for a similar secondhand one, there are some good ones on Etsy and Chairish.
When we propped up the footboard it was feeling kind of dark and imposing in the room (both visually and literally – we all kept bumping into it), but the footboard is so cool on its own that we’re planning to use it as a headboard in our son’s room eventually. It’s not exactly the same, so it’ll be cool to see what looks like this headboard’s sibling in his room.
Since we weren’t using the fully assembled bed, and just wanted to attach the headboard to the wall, we used some scrap wood to create a cleat on the back of the headboard so it could hang independently of the rest of the bed (here’s where we showed you how to make a headboard cleat). I love that it brings something old to the room, but the spools still keep it feeling fun. When I tuck her in I probably talk way too much about how cool it is to have a bed that’s 100 years old. Moms are so lame.
I’m also obsessed with how the little pom-pom trim that lines the comforter sort of mimics the shape of the spools in the headboard. It’s like it was meant to be together (again, we found that gem at HomeGoods – and the llama sheets are from Target because, llamas!).
The white nightstands are from Target. I loved the campaign hardware detail, the nice functional drawer, and the fact that they’re white (we had old wood side tables that looked super heavy with the wood headboard – so my tip would be to try mixing in white night tables if you’re battling that issue yourself). She still has her trusty pink touch lamps that we got her over a year ago (I don’t have to tell any parent this, but kids love tapping things on and off – it’s one step away from my childhood favorite: The Clapper). Also, I love that she uses the drawers for practical things like storing doll clothes and housing a tiny toy mouse.
The abstract art above the bed is from Target and the pink quote art is just a page I tore out of a magazine called Flow. It reads “If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking. -Haruki Murakami” And it has a cat on it for good measure. When I asked her if she wanted me to hang that up there in the frame she said “Yes because NOBODY else likes to read BabyMouse comics AND Goosebumps at the same time!” This kid.
Back to the walls for a sec – we went with White Heron paint after really liking how it looked throughout the beach house.
It plays well all of the other existing paint colors: the bright white trim (Benjamin Moore’s Simply White), the soft pink ceiling (Benjamin Moore’s Pink Cadillac) and the bold closet door (Benjamin Moore’s Cinco de Mayo). White Heron is a very soft warm grey-tan color, so we joke that her room’s kind of like a muted Neopolitan ice cream bar now, thanks to that strawberry ceiling and vanilla trim.
While we kept the DIY toy/book storage as is (we made that a few years ago and covered the process in our second book), we did refresh some of the art around it. It was fun to see what things got to stay and what got switched out, and our daughter insisted on the little silver antlers (they were downstairs in a pile of things that I was going to use at the beach house) because it was the perfect spot to hang her dreamcatcher keychain. Clearly she’s into form and function – ha!
This photo cracks me up because you can get a sense of how the bookcase has kind of become a playhouse of sorts too. Part of the “de-babying” of the room was also heeding her request to remove the homemade dollhouse in the closet (more on that in a moment while I sob quietly behind my laptop). We craigslisted it to a grandmother who was very excited to have it for her grandkids, so we were happy it was going somewhere that would get more use, but I do find it oddly reassuring when I walk in and the bookshelves have been turned into tiny rooms for her toys.
I also had some fun bringing in some gold, just because I love those gold Target frames and have probably purchased my body weight in them, but also because I like that there’s some silver layered in with them as well (in the antlers, the oval mirror I painted years ago for her, and even that little silver spotted dog sitting on the frame). That dog actually used to be a drawer knob but it cracked and fell off, but he has lived on as a little picture-sitter of sorts.
The wall opposite the bed still features her old changing-table-turned-dresser (it’s almost 8 years old and still going strong!) with that pretty inlay mirror above it that we all love. I think the only update here is that I spray painted the yard sale moose lamp gold because he used to be white and I thought he’d pop more, but he’s looking kind of weird in this picture. In person he’s less bold looking (more of a soft hammered gold) but here he looks… I don’t know… like a golden chicken nugget.
That laundry basket is an estate sale find and the curtains are Ikea panels I dyed light pink years ago. They’re probably the next thing we’ll upgrade in here, because they’re so lightweight that it’s hard to keep them looking like they haven’t been whipped by a daily tornado.
The paint color change has been good for lots of reason. As much as we liked the white, her room always felt a little disconnected from the rest of the upstairs because everything else had a warm tan-gray color on the wall (this room had been a super crisp white color). Plus, her room gets the best light of any room in the house, so it can definitely handle something less stark. We also like how it’s helping the white elements – like the crown molding or the lampshade below – pop off the walls a little better. Once again: chicken nugget moose, everyone.
As I mentioned earlier, the closet got a little update too. With the dollhouse not getting used anymore (*SOB!*), we basically just asked our daughter what she’d rather use that spot for, and she requested a place to draw and write. I had always thought a vanity might make sense in there when she’s older, so I love that this works as a drawing/writing nook and could also be a getting-ready space for her someday (since I’m sure someday she’ll need a larger and more legit desk, which I imagine might take the place of her bookcase down the line).
We grabbed the vanity at Ikea since it’s small enough to easily fit into that nook (remember when we “wallpapered” that back wall with fabric years ago). Then we just brought in one of our spare dining room chairs for a place to sit. It had been in the attic since we got upholstered end chairs for the dining room, so it’s nice to make use of it.
The desk/vanity flips up on one side, so it’s great for stashing pencils and stuff, while the other half has a normal drawer for tucking away papers. I’m not sure I agree with Ikea’s inexplicable decision to make the inside of the vanity blood-red, but it actually works in here.
It may seem like overkill to have three kids drawing/writing surfaces in the house (if you include their desks in our office and the bonus room) but they all get used, and this one is nice because it’s just hers and she can work in here quietly in the morning before her brother wakes up.
For anyone looking for all of our sources in one place, here’s a little get-the-look mood board for ya. We hunted down similar items for the things that are thrifted or discontinued:
1. Walls (SW White Heron) / 2. Trim (BM Simply White) / 3. Ceiling (BM Pink Cadillac) / 4. Door (BM Cinco de Mayo) / 5. Touch Lamp / 6. Bedside Table / 7. Faux Plant / 8. Woven Pot / 9. Windsor Chair / 10. Vanity / 11. White Pouf / 12. Faux Antlers / 13. Abstract Print / 14. Toy Storage / 15. Colorful Print / 16. Antique Wooden Spool Bed / 17. Inlay Mirror / 18. Midcentury Dresser / 19. Throw Pillow / 20. Llama Sheets / 21. Rug / 22. Bedding Set
I’m sure it’s not the last evolution this room will see. At some point, she’ll probably need a dresser with deeper drawers (what once held onesies and diapers perfectly is sometimes feeling maxed out with sweatshirts and skinny jeans). And I really can see that bookcase getting swapped out for a full-sized desk in a few years if she wants more space to spread out. And who knows when and if those curtains will change. Will it be before or after the Nick Jonas posters (or whoever’s the current heartthrob at the time) go up? Everyone says it, but they really do grow up too fast (*sniffle*).
Psst- Wanna see other kids updates and projects? Here are dozens of tutorials from our archives.

Who Puts An 100-Year-Old Bed In A Little Girl’s Room? Um, We Do. http://ift.tt/2z0S8J1

Mother’s Day-Florist Checklist
Mother’s Day (or should we say Mother’s Day week) is the busiest and potentially the most profitable holiday for the floral business owner.
Having a strategy in place to make the most profit is essential in reaping all the benefits of this busy flower purchasing holiday. In this blog, we will go over a checklist to help you through Mother’s Day and make sure you dot your i’s and cross your t’s.
image via pexels.com
#1 Employee Scheduling & Duties:
Gather your employees and provide what is expected of them for Mother’s Day week.
Make sure everyone knows their set times and days to work.
Hire extra help and offer them a day to come in. (This should be done before Mother’s Day week to go over their job descriptions.)
Make sure to reiterate how important it is that everyone show up to work during Mother’s Day week.
If you are hiring extra drivers, discuss with them whether you require them to use their own vehicle.
image via pexels.com
#2 Flowers & Supplies:
Start looking around for supplies, containers, baskets, vases and so on. Visit your local flower shop supplier. However, do not forget to also visit discount home stores and dollar stores. You can find some great unique items there!
Order you Mother’s Day Flowers early from your supplier to get the best value. Keep in mind, if you are new to the floral industry, Mother’s Day spans for a week – not a day. So order enough flowers!
If you are comfortable, get your flowers through a floral auction. These offer great discounts when purchased in large quantities.
Make sure to order flowering plants, orchids and dish gardens. These are great sellers and require very little work.
Flower Must-Haves For Mother’s Day:
Alstroemeria
Asters
Carnations
Daisies and Poms
Dahlias (if possible)
Freesia
Roses
Garden Roses
Sunflowers
Gerbera Daisies
Tulips
Lilies
Orchids
Hydrangeas
Delphinium
Calla Lilly
Lisianthus (if possible)
Stock
Filler Flower Must-Have For Mother’s Day:
Baby’s Breath
Limonium
Queen Anne’s Lace (if possible)
Statice
Thistle
Wax Flower
Lilac
Buttons/ Pom
Matsumoto
Trachelium

3# Floral Website:
Much like any flower industry holiday, it is important to have your floral website ready and reflecting Mother’s Day in early April. If you have great Easter sales, it is OK to do this right after Easter.
Make sure you have a clear Mother’s Day Policy and shop hours on your floral website. Clear return and substitution policy is also a must!
Mother’s Day products should be displayed throughout your website. Add these wherever possible.
Have an easy way for customers to order Mother’s Day products. Use a “Call To Action” (example: a “Shop Now” Button) or clear image/banner/button that says Mother’s Day Flowers.
List special Promotions. This is a great way to encourage customers to shop early before Mother’s Day week.
Make sure you update your product pricing to compensate for your costs.

#4 Prepping & Showcasing
Prepping in a flower shop can be fun! Okay, not so much. However, prepping is most important in ensuring long lasting arrangements so please be vigilant about prepping your flowers correctly.
Prep your flowers when they arrive. How to Prep Flowers
Get ahead of the crowd and cut any ribbon needed. Gather up your gifts and display them neatly.
Green any vases, baskets or containers you can ahead of time.
Make sure your flower shop is clean and displays an inviting atmosphere with beautiful decor and lots of great impulse gifts to add on to flower arrangements.
image via pexels.com
#5 Week Of Mother’s Day:
Work a day ahead. Fill any orders for next day the day before. Working a day or two ahead will allow you flexibility just in case there are many last minute orders.
Make sections for Delivery drivers by areas and add finished flower arrangements to this area with the date of delivery that is bold and clear.
No wastefulness! We do say this a lot. With the abundant supplies and flowers in the shop, it is easy to get sidetracked and be super wasteful. This is a “No No.” Everything thrown on the floor that can be used should be. Wasting or throwing out even a good pin or wire is considered money out of your pocket. Please be sure to express this to your employees.
Check you sales totals daily not at the end of the week.
Make sure you re-stock your impulse buys on your front counter to sell in addition to flower arrangements.
image via pexels.com
Mother’s Day Checklist Tips:
If you can, keep a standby driver at the shop to handle new orders for delivery.
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. It’s best not to wear open toe shoes. This can also be an insurance liability in states.
Make sure you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. Do not skip meals.
Do not sweat the small stuff. Regardless of how hard you try, there may be a complaint here or there. Do not let this get you down. It’s the nature of the business.
Try to enjoy Mother’s Day week by keeping a journal of all the funny things that happen or mishaps that take place to reflect on for next year.
We would like to wish all florist a very lucrative and successful Mother’s Day holiday!
Florists, do you have any great Mother’s Days tips to share with our readers? Please post any of your Mother’s Day tips or feedback below.

First Look at Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War
Late Friday, Marvel Studios released a ideo with our first glimpse of the set and concept art from “Avengers: Infinity War.” Along with confirmation that the Avengers will be joined for the first time by the Guardians of the Galaxy, the featured a look how the film’s villain, Thanos, will appear on screen.

While we’ve seen Thanos before in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — in mid-credits scenes in “Avengers” and “Age of Ultron,” as well as in a more prominent role in “Guardians of the Galaxy” — his screen time to date has been limited, so there’s been no guarantee his final look would be the same.
And, based on the concept art, it appears the Mad Titan has undergone an update. Instead of the familiar blue-and-gold costume Thanos has worn, with some variations, since his first appearance in 1973’s “Iron Man” #55, the art for “Avengers: Infinity War” reveals the cosmic villain in something more like an academic robe than armor, with twin golden stripes on either side of his chest in place of the traditional centered stripe.

The change suggests we might be getting a more intelligent, introspective Thanos than we’ve seen of late in Marvel’s comics (at least those not written by his creator Jim Starlin). This isn’t a Mad Titan who exerts his will through brute force, but instead through the power of his will.
We also get a brief glimpse of Thanos out of costume entirely, an image that brings to mind the famous epilogue of “Infinity Gauntlet” in which Thanos, after losing omnipotence for the second time, has retired to the quiet life of a farmer (at least temporarily). While it’s unlikely “Infinity War” will end with Farmer Thanos stoically tilling a field of corn, this image suggests the film will stay closer to Starlin’s vision of a character with a nuanced inner life, who can grow and change.
Finally, Thanos is depicted taking up the Infinity Gauntlet, a moment first show in the mid-credits scene of “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” While some longtime fans have been skeptical of treating the Infinity Gauntlet as a cosmic artifact in its own right — it was initially just the glove Thanos had always worn, to which he affixed the Infinity Gems as he collected them — but the imagery of the Mad Titan picking it up is pretty impressive. The Gauntlet will probably also serve an important plot point, explaining how one person could harness all six Infinity Stones without being destroyed.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (“Captain America: Civil War”), “Avengers: Infinity War” features a sprawling cast, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff and Josh Brolin. Now in production at Pinewood Atlanta Studios, the film opens May 4, 2018, followed by an untitled sequel on May 3, 2019.
