I think one of things that really bugs me about Reboot Bane and his quest for Gotham is that in Knightfall Bane has literally never been anywhere else in the world, ever. He went DIRECTLY from Peña Duro to Gotham City, because of both the bat in his dreams that he took for prophecy, and Bird telling him it that Gotham City -- where he was from -- was the greatest city on Earth. So Bane took his word for it, and took over Gotham pretty easily (until Azrael's mech suit made him wish for death -- which you'd think SOMEONE would acknowledge in the reboot?? That it wasn't even Batman who broke him back?? At least not during Knightfall. Batman broke him when he told him he was an animal who belonged away from society, but that wasn't about Gotham, that was about Bane attempting mass genocide). DC fully ignores how Bane came back, saw Batman, and said 'yeah i don't care about this anymore tbh so you don't have to come after me lol' and batman was like 'ex-fucking-scuse me??' Now if they were just Reimaging how that went down, okay, grimdark and I hate it but whatever -- But because the reboot acknowledges Bane's history, and the fact that he has experienced other things, and has his own country, it's dumb. Bane has been to Other Worlds. Bane's been To Hell. Bane's been to Vermont. No one on Beyonce Knowles' Green Earth can convince me that he still thinks Gotham is the holy grail of places to be.
