yesterday in queer history class, the powerpoint mentioned this book called "the feminine mystique" that was published in like the 60s/70s that helped kick off second wave feminism or smth, and how it got a lot of criticism for focusing on the #struggles middle-class white suburban house wife, and as we all briefly talked about how unrelatable that was to literally all of us in that room, i jokingly said, "yeah, some of us have better things to do than watch star trek all day!"
and the professor looked at me, and he said, "are you dissing star trek??"
i looked straight at this man, put a hand over my heart, and said, "i would NEVER. disrespect. the pREMISE. of star trek."
and he gave me this kind of knowing look as he said, "good, because i like star trek."
#this is slightly edited bc i did also say 'no i'm making a joke abt how housewives were the origin of slash shipping and fandom'#but he did give me this kind of knowing look at the end.#i have no idea how old this guy is tbh he has some grey in his beard but i assumed that was just stress n he was in like his 30s#but then he mentioned that 'some like it hot' was from when HE was growing up and i'm like 'WHAT'#and from the moments we've briefly touched on the aids crisis of the 80s (bc we're not there Yet it is obvs Coming)#the way he talks abt it makes it sound like he was there. which would make sense if he IS That Old#花話#unsurprisingly i'm having a lot of fun in this class. the prof is kind of what they might call a ~problematic fave~#and it's also interesting bc i feel like being on tumblr n reading queer history posts here has prepared me a lot for the discussions#just like. yeah!! we've always been here c:
