Is it weird, that we never got an answer on who caused " The Grand Culling of the Wyrms", in God of War and God of War Raganrok? Just to remind, it was an event, which resulted in the demise of many Dragons in the realms.
The reason why it was carried out and by whom is still unknown.
I myself think it was the gods, trying to gain the trust on the dwarfs and humans, and while it's not confimerd or anything, i like to think it was Vali or Urll who carried it.
Still kinda weird we did not get theses guys in ragnarok.
tbh i write it off as just a bit of worldbuilding to establish that dragons aren't a common sight anymore, so the few we see are special as they are survivors of a great event in the past. also to kind of set the world as sort of "past it's prime", nobody around to kill dragons anymore, either because they are so rare or because there aren't people powerful enough to hunt them down. possibly both!
it's a common trope in fantasy, that ages wear down magic and things aren't as grand or powerful as they once were. for instance, Lord Of The Rings itself is kind of apost-apocalyptic setting, all the cool things happened long ago during the Silmarillion books, and we're seeing a world long past it's prime.
THAT SAID, i do think lots of gods we don't see in GOWR are um, dead, including Vali and Urll xD the first game goes to great lengths to explain how the Aesir-Vanir war took a massive toll on both sides, and not all who live in Asgard and Vanaheim ARE gods, some of them are common people! so i imagine the toll was in fact among gods, and what were once large proud factions are just a handful of individuals now. at least that's how i interpret it ajhdbjawbd
