Episode 15 - Yunmeng

I liked how their relationship was portrayed here (I read it's different in the book), she does care about him a little after all. It's grey, it's problematic, it's human.

Uhhh I didn't pick up on this when I first watched. Poor WWX can't he catch a break? Not for 16 years though smh

Lmao I still like her as a character, she's badass and her level of being annoyed all the time is both relatable and admirable.

Iconic. I'm thinking, she gave WWX what, 5 lashes? And he's still conscious, ok bleeding and all that but it didn't knock him out completely yet these Wen soldiers dropped instantly after one lash. Is it because WWX is used to this treatment? 😭

Also I got the impression that she didn't intend to cut off WWX's hand, she might have been tempted but she considered the family's honour more important than being alive and when she gave the order to shut the doors it was already because she wanted to kill the Wens. How much I wish she moved to cut that bitch's neck faster. When I was first watching, I read a comment after the wen indoctrination episode about how sad it was that wwx had to give up his sword because he wouldn't fight with it again and then I watched this and I thought omg he won't be able to fight because he's gonna lose his hand. I was so freaked out.

I think the style how Madam Yu made this speech (I'll tell you who's superior, etc) and then kicked everyone's arses was somewhat similar to WWX's style. He also made a speech at Nevernight then kicked everyone's arses with the same righteousness and ferocity.

She hugs Cheng then says this to WWX:

It's not like it was his decision. Madam Yu decided that Wei Wuxian was a family member (she stated this to to Wen woman) and that the family's honour including Wei Wuxian's was worth fighting for and giving her life for. I think she loved him somewhere buried deep, and now she's saying "you damn boy it's your fault I love you and did this for you when I should hate you as much as I say I do and should have given you to the Wens to save my family". The way she grabbed him was so in contrast to how she embaced Cheng, it felt like she had to touch him, maybe a part of her wanted to hug him too but just like during the years before she couldn't bring herself to do that so she shook him and blamed him. But actions speak louder than words and she protected him just as much as she would have protected Cheng or Yanli.

Wei Wuxian of course doesn't know this, that's not what he gets from all this. I wonder if he later looked at his hand and felt like he shouldn’t have it, because we know he would have given it up to protect the Jiang clan if it had been his decision, even before he saw what disaster happened afterwards.

Then Madam Yu tells him to protect Cheng with his life, in her mind it's because she just sacrificed herself and so many in the clan to save him so the least he could do is look out for Cheng, which makes sense in my opinion, but what Wei Wuxian hears is that his life is worthless and he's unloved (even though Madam Yu's actions prove the opposite of both).
