Does Tennis star Daniel break his wrist also? How's he getting on? Is Max devoted boyfriend we all know him to be? Love the au sm!💖
OMG Pixie! Thank you for this ask! I'm so happy you enjoy it! 💗💗💗 Originally I had no intention of Danny getting injured, there was like a vague outline of what I wanted to happen for the US Open. Then I read this lovely ask and my brain pressed delete and then I furiously wrote this. It is not edited lmao, I hope it makes sense. I'll put it under the cut, we got a little angsty too.
Part 1 | Part 16 | Part 18
Part 17
It was in the second round of the US Open when it happened. In Arthur Ashe Stadium at prime time. A freak accident they called it.
It was the second set, Daniel was returning a volley and he…tripped. The ball boys had accounted for all the stray balls except one that had fallen from one of their hands. They couldn’t stop play in time and instead of allowing himself to fall into the teen trying to retrieve the ball; Daniel pivoted with the grace of a UFC fighter and landed on his side. Heavily.
He had thrown his arm out reflexively to catch himself but his momentum was too much and long story short he was sat in the hospital in a cast.
“At least it’s a clean break.” Blake had said, trying to find any silver lining. Daniel stared morosely ahead as the news (which he requested be kept on) kept replaying the moment of the fall and him immediately clutching his arm to his chest in pain. They were praising his quick thinking and agility for not injuring the poor boy with a montage of him being led from centre court to a standing ovation overlayed.
His phone was going off uncontrollably, but he was ignoring it. Max had called Blake immediately after it happened; he saw it live watching from Italy. They’d had no information for him then, and Daniel wasn’t sure if Blake had been keeping him updated. He hoped he was.
Daniel stared ahead for an indeterminate amount of time. He was in shock. How could it have gone so so badly in so little time. He was the fucking world number one; something he’d dreamt about for ages. He was on his way to win the final grand slam of the season and now…
The cast felt heavy against his chest where it rested. He couldn’t breathe under the metaphorical weight of it.
“I want Max.” Daniel croaked out, clearing his throat. He hadn’t spoken since checking into the hospital, letting Blake and Micheal do all the work.
“He’s sending his plane to take us to Spain. Red Bull are getting us a consultation with a Dr Mir to— apparently he’s the best at this sort of injury.” Blake offered instead, still texting feverishly.
“At least this was the final of the year. I mean outside of the invitational…” Michael trailed off.
“Where’s my phone? I— Max.” Daniel motioned with his good hand jerkily, hissing when he jostled his cast. Blake caved and handed him the device which he took to immediately facetime his boyfriend.
Max answered before the first ring even finished. His worried eyes filled the screen and Daniel offered a small smile in spite of himself.
“Hey.” Daniel whispered, because he all of a sudden felt overwhelmed.
“Danny! How— how are you feeling?” Max seemed like he just jolted himself into stillness. Maybe he had been pacing.
“Can I see you?” Daniel bypassed answering, because he wasn’t feeling up to trying to put words to the tumult inside him. It wasn’t all good all ways, not by a long shot.
Max hesitated, and Daniel felt bad immediately. It was a stupid question, Max had just arrived in Milan, this was a full race weekend. There would be no opportunity.
“Sorry— fuck. That was a dumb question.” Daniel mumbled.
“Vicky says that Dr Mir is like on call for Moto GP guys— so he knows what he’s doing. Hopefully you can get surgery this week a–and then I can meet you in Monaco after the race, maybe? You can stay at my place— I have a week before singapore— I can help take care of you?” He said it all in a rush, as if thinking if he gave Daniel a moment to consider or answer he’d have declined.
This was new for them, they were still new. They didn’t really know how the other were when they were losing or hurt.
“Ok– yeah.” Daniel replied because, of course. He wanted to see Max, needed to be held by his boyfriend right now. And if everyone trusted this Dr Mir, then he would too. He could probably ask Fabio about him, or something.
Everything was a rush and a blur after that. Daniel slept most of the flight to Barcelona, he was in surgery within two days and on some amazing painkillers. He didn’t much remember getting to Moncao or arriving at Max’s but he’d woken out of sleep enough with a cat randomly on or by him that he knew he was there.
Max arrived Sunday night, his hair still smelled like champaign. It was the best smell Daniel smelt when Max leaned over to kiss him while he was propped up on the couch. It was clear that Blake gave him all the information over the phone because he didn’t ask anything, just made himself comfortable on Daniel’s good side and cuddled him closer, tracing the lines of the cast lightly with his finger. Outlining the rose he knew to be there.
Daniel leaned into him easily. It was a shit situation, but Max was here.

Good Morning, Sunday
Hi. The weekend is coming to an end.
Today's Knockdown Daily Newsletter (a daily briefing on MMA news) is out. Top stories:
The heavyweight main event that wasn't.
ONE Championship continues their return to Singapore.
The return of Manel Kape, plus four other bouts that have joined the UFC schedule.
Full newsletter here.
I also wrote a full report on Saturday's UFC card, if you want to read that. Quite an odd and uneventful card, quite frankly.
A song for this morning: Nicholas Craven, Pink Siifu - Serotonin

UFC Fights Ireland: Dana White Finally Breaks Silence on December Rumors
UFC may return to Ireland after an eight-year absence, but the news has not been confirmed. Since 2015, the Republic of Ireland is yet to host a UFC fight. This has left MMA fans in "The Emerald Isle" begging for more live action.
The picture is still far from certain. Jamie Mullarkey’s management leaked the information on social media when they said that Mullarkey was fighting in Ireland next.
During an interview, UFC's CEO Dana White finally commented on the rumored Ireland event. Dana White answered, "There are also rumblings of Ireland taking place in December. Is this true?"
White responded with frustration and humor. "Now we are in fu**ing Ireland. I don't know if we will be going to Ireland. You blew this, kid. You blew that." Is there anyone else with a stupid question?
White's reaction reflects his cautious attitude towards a possible return to Ireland. Although rumors are circulating, there has been no confirmation. White seems to be avoiding revealing any details for the time being.
UFC Ireland fans eagerly anticipate news about a possible homecoming of the promotion. The status of UFC 296 remains unknown until an official announcement has been made.
Unconfirmed fighters for UFC Ireland's upcoming event
As the UFC Ireland event draws near, rumors are circulating in the UFC Community. However, no official match card has yet been announced. Latest speculation focuses on possible matchups which could make the December event a must-watch showdown for fight fans.
In a recent press conference, UFC president Dana White teased a potential showdown between Jiri Pereira and Alex Prochazka, a prospect which has attracted a lot of attention. They could end up facing each other at the event in December.
A potential confrontation between Conor McGregor, Michael Chandler and others is another intriguing rumor. The rivalry between the two intensified when they were competing coaches in The Ultimate Fighter Season 31. McGregor then fueled rumors when he tweeted about a fight in December and shared a UFC 296 promotional graphic. Later, however, it became clear that the graphic wasn't an official announcement. According to UFC's CEO, McGregor is also unsure about his return this year.
Giga Chakadze then publicly confronted Yair Rod at the UFC Singapore Press Conference, expressing a desire to get a place on the UFC 296 Card so that they could make an appearance at UFC Ireland. Sean O'Malley's revelation that he had been in discussions with Conor McGregor regarding the headline and co-headline bouts for UFC 296 added to the excitement. The clash can therefore also happen.
These rumors are sure to generate buzz but it is important to remember that the official match card has not yet been released. Fans will therefore have to wait until the official confirmation.

I’m just going to talk about the fights I care about for this Singapore card. Honestly, not a whole lot of technical aspects to cover. Feels like a lot of the fights are going to be one sided. Bear with me.
Max Holloway vs Korean Zombie - This fight is sad. While Chan Sung Jung is still a top 10-15 fighter at featherweight, this match up could easily turn into a 5 rounds of a too tough for his own good KZ getting pieced up by Max Holloway a la Holloway-Kattar. I can’t knock it too much as it was the fight KZ asked for and with him being open about the end being near, give him one last big fight. He deserves it. But I expect sad times.
Giga Chikadze vs Alex Caceres - I strangely like this fight. While Caceres lacks a level of physicality and raw athleticism to hang with the top of the featherweight division, no striker by Cisco Rivera has ever been able to put him away. It’s always been big strong wrestle-grappling types who have been his foil. That said, I expect the technical, athletic, and power edge to carry Chiladze to decisive victory. Unless Giga has spent the last 17 months actively getting worse as a fighter, I think he should take it.
Rinya Nakamura vs. Fernie Garcia - according to Tapology, I have seen Fernie Garcia twice. The fact I can’t remember anything about him and that he lost twice to some guys does not bode well for him. This is a fight meant to get the UFC’s next big hopeful star, U23 wrestling world champ Rinya Nakamura some cage time. But I’m interested in seeing what improvements he’s made since Road to the UFC. He’s been working at ATT alongside Kyoji Horiguchi and them. Guy has a bright future!
Erin Blanchfield vs Taila Santos - the first proper competitive fight I’ll talk about. Erin Blanchfield has only grown more and more confident as a striker in the UFC. While the technical polish isn’t there, the power and aggressiveness are. In contrast, I’d argue the biggest thing that kept Taila Santos from straight up beating Valentina Shevchenko in her last fight was her unwillingness to exchange on the feet. Her reliance on Valentina feeding her takedowns as opposed to being able to use strikes to set them up herself meant when Valentina stopped, so did her opportunities. That said, if Blanchfield comes out guns blazing like she did against Andrade, she could find herself getting tied up and taken down. And while her top game is impressive, we have seen Blanchfield lose a bottom side grappling match to a physically imposing opponent (Tracy Cortez) before. Granted that was 4 years ago but still. I’m excited to see what new things both women have been working on since the last time we’ve seen them!
Kenan Song vs Rolando Bedoya - Song had a more competitive fight with Ian Garry than Neil Magny, which will always be funny to me. That said, i think it’s fair after 25+ fights to say that we’ve probably seen his ceiling. A fun action fighter who can and will be folded by fighters who are either more experienced or athletically gifted. So this fight with Bedoya has me intrigued, because I don’t think he’s either. But what he has shown is that he’s got some Alex Morono in him. Bedoya has a lot of intangibles that fighters who make long careers in fighting without competing for gold have. Good defensive instincts. Fills space with offense well. A guy like Song is the perfect test for him.
JJ Aldrich vs Na Liang - JJ Aldrich is the quintessential example you point to when you tell people this is a sport of athletes. Cause technically, she’s a darn good fighter. Great job. Solid striking. Ok wrestling. But because she is not fast, powerful, or physically imposing, she will occasionally get her doors blown off by a more athletic fighter like Maycee Barber or Erin Blanchfield. Like Aldrich was winning those fights in a lot ways before the other women just decided they were done and went in for the kill. Against Na Liang, I think it makes for an interesting fight.

UFC 296 Fight Card: Here is Everything we know about the Dec 16th PPV Scheduled
UFC 296 pinion wheels up to be the fourteenth compensation per-view occasion of the year 2023. Planned for December 16, 2023, at the famous T-Versatile Field in Las Vegas.
UFC President Dana White dropped a clue during a public interview on August 29, 2023. White proposed that a conflict between Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira may be on the cards for this December confrontation.
Reports have been whirling for some time about a possible fight between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler. Their contention became the overwhelming focus when they filled in as restricting mentors on A definitive Contender Season 31.
McGregor filled the hypothesis in August by tweeting about a December battle, in any event, sharing a realistic advancing his title appearance at UFC 296. Nonetheless, it was subsequently affirmed that the realistic was just a hallucination.
Adding to the interest, Sean O'Malley let the cat out of the bag on his discussion with Conor McGregor about the two warriors partaking in the fundamental and co-headliners at UFC 296.
In a surprising turn, Giga Chikadze lighted sparkles at the UFC Singapore public interview by moving Yair Rodriguez to a standoff at UFC 296.
Will Conor McGregor get back into the game at UFC 296?
It's been a long while since Conor McGregor graced the UFC Octagon, with his last appearance tracing all the way back to a pivotal physical issue in July 2021. However, recently, a promise of something better arose when it was reported that McGregor would make his UFC return, this time as a mentor on the most recent time of A definitive Warrior (TUF), where he would clash with, as a matter of fact, Michael Chandler once the season closed.
Shockingly, McGregor neglected to enter the USADA testing pool, an essential prerequisite for his return this year. Regardless of this, bits of gossip endure about a possible rebound in December for the skilled Irish contender. McGregor has previously started his instructional course, which incorporates meetings with Bellator warrior Ciaran Clarke. Clarke as of late imparted his contemplations to Mirror Quarreling over his experience preparing with McGregor:
"Without a slight trace of uncertainty he's sharp. His development and everything and his psyche for the game, he's so sharp mentally."As far as December? He will be truly sharp and truly prepared for that battle. He's preparing for something coming up, I don't know since it's all tales and there's no genuine agreements marked except for I realize that he couldn't want anything more than to be battling in December, we don't have any idea."
