Hello everyone, last time (ten days ago?) I said that I would do Hiori team, so here I am with his team, that was quite difficult to make and I'm not sure if I really like it or no
Explanation as always:
Typhlosion: i think for most people this choose might feel wrong, but listen to my reasons: first I wanted to choose a starter from Johto, since Hiori is from Kyoto, and second I wanted to choose a starter that kind of mirrored Hiori evolution through the Manga, so from a character that was more passive and maybe shy (cyndaquil) to a more aggressive player that those not shy away from a challenge (typhlosion)
Ampharos: at first I wanted to put Mareep since Hiori's favorite animal is the sheep, but then I wouldn't be able to put wooloo, so I decided to put ampharos instead, and I think it was a good choice because Hiori said that one of his best quality is being good at seeing the whole picture and that something you can in a lighthouse, that is rapresented by ampharos (I hope I was able to explain what I wanted to say ahahah)
Wooloo: easy explanation, it's Hiori favorite animal
Azumarill: my boy Azumarill, love you so much. Anyway I choose Azumarill at first for its color, as it reminded me of Hiori's hair, but most importantly for it helping nature: Azumarill is a pokemon that not only helps its pre-evolution but also other Pokémon who risk drowning, and I think that matches Hiori helping nature, like when he helped Isagi developing new technics and developing a new approach to soccer
Politoad: Hiori's favorite season is the rainy one, so I immediately thought about a frog Pokémon and specifically politoad for its appearance as it is a cute Pokémon but in reality it's quite dominant and it's the one who control the poliwag, poliwhirl and even the poliwrath and also a predator, this kind of mirrors Hiori, as he looks very passive and very tranquil but deep down he is a sadist (Isagi's word, not mine)
Articuno:for the legendary the choice was quite difficult, but in the end I decided to go with Articuno first because of its color (yes, again) and also for its secluded nature, because from the Egoist Bible it seems like Hiori has a tendency to isolate himself quite often and Articuno basically does the same as this pokemin prefers to stay alone in the mountain
Done for today, hope you enjoy it, and I hope you will let me know your thoughts byyy👋

I know you love infodumping about your pokemon I feel in it my bones. Would love to hear about them
Oh hoho where do I start!
Wellll, I obviously gotta talk about my closest buddy starter Bladhm first! I always knew I wanted to pick a fire starter, and my Typhlosion is the best any trainer could ever ask for! He's super strong and super friendly! Once he was fully evolved so many little kids would wanna play with him when we relaxed between gyms. He also a real cuddlebug and doesn't mind acting like a heating pad on bad days.
Then we got Togetoge, the little egg Mr.Pokemon gave me that hatched into one mean Togepi. She's super competitive and always gets lucky with her metronome attack. One time it let her use this wicked looking attack that healed her too! Mean as she is though, she can be real sweet when she wants (Kinda like Silv!). I think she wants to wait until I'm a sitting champion to evolve into Togekiss.
And of course there's Shuckie, the little Shuckle I rescued (not STOLE, Kris!). He's an absolute powerhouse and loves using Rock Tomb to completely trap his opponents. But just because he loves battling doesn't mean he doesn't love to cuddle too! He just loves being held.
Hoots was my first ever catch. It was super late by the time I finished telling the Prof and mom about the pokedex prof Oak gave me, so by the time I actually left Newbark for real most of the Pokémon were asleep. I probably coulda waited for morning, but Bladhm and I were just too excited to wait any longer! And about halfway back to Cherrygrove this little Hoothoot started followin' us and when I asked if he wanted to come with he hopped right into the pokeball! He's my best flyer (don't tell Togetoge), he even outsped Blue's Pidgeot once!
Noko was a surprise catch. I wanted to check out Dark Cave before I got flash cuz I though Bladhm could light it up enough but. I still kept tripping into walls so I had to leave. When I got to Violet I found out one of the empty pokeballs I kept on my belt had someone in it, and was super surprised to find a sleepy Dunsparce! He's a little lazy most of the time, but when he gets in the mood to battle he hits hard. I plan on askin if he wants to evolve into either of the other forms or not. Whatever he chooses I'll be happy for him!
And last but definitely not least on the team is Pancake! She's as fierce as a Gyarados and she's not afraid to let anyone who crosses her know! She always attacks with all her might no matter who we're fighting! But that's just in battle, outside she's almost as sweet as Shuckie and Bladhm. Her favorite thing to do is let little kids and pokemon ride her at the beach or lake
#((cynda quiz#((he loves his team so much#((he has other pokemon too but these guys are his main team

Ok so.
Here’s what I did.
- his Pokémon are all level 68 and Giratina is 70. I would recommend a minimum of 73 across the board just based on how much damage everything can do.
- if you’re dead set on using the Empoleon, it’s not the WORST idea to deal with the Arcanine and Togekiss… but I’d actually recommend a Gyarados as a water type because your Empoleon WILL get taken out easily by the Lucario, Garchomp, and Giratina with their fighting and ground coverage, meanwhile Gyarados gets coverage to deal with everything Empoleon deals with, is neutral to grass, resists fighting, and is immune to ground, which Volo’s two/three scariest Pokémon (remember you fight Gira twice) have either as STAB or as coverage. Volo has no electric on his team, a water/flying type with ice coverage cannot be stopped.
Step 1: send out gyarados, step 2: click ice fang, step 3: profit
- if you want to avoid Gyarados for being too good of a match, a Gastrodon is the next best option imo
- the Spiritomb really isn’t THAT annoying even without a fairy type because fairy coverage is really easy to get. I’d recommend the Blissey as your lead here due to how chunky it is and it being completely immune to Shadiw Ball.
it can miss a few turns to hypnosis without it being a death sentence, and it has Dazzling Gleam as a Tutor move which should obliterate the spiritomb easy, and whatever comes out next you can probably get a bit of damage on before having to swap something else in.
- teach your Zoroark Flamethrower and burn that Lucario to a crisp, that’s what I did but with my typhlosion. It might not work as well with a zoroark but I don’t know how to deal with Lucario other than being immune to fighting moves and lighting it on fire.
- Volo’s roserade is a literal joke. It has three moves. One of them is spikes. Zoroark and gyarados both destroy it. So does gastrodon now that I think about it. Hell, a Roserade of your own could destroy it. I could cough on it and kill it. This man made a mockery of my favorite Pokémon and for that I will never forgive him
- also not a bad shout: the alpha Gallade in the temple. It’s level 70 off the bat, gets fantastic coverage, and its fast. Might get yeeted by a crit but it’ll take something down with it for sure. There’s never really a bad time to have a Gallade in the back.
- if you chose rowlet at the start. I’m sorry? I just don’t really know what to do with a decidueye here. Like it’s fine, none of the starters are bad, but the other two have much easier niches in this fight.
Actually trying to beat volo again now. Friend suggested I get an empoleon so after trying and failing to catch the alpha one (it killed itself???) I’ve got a piplup and am leveling it up along with my zoroark and blissey (who are way higher leveled compared to it, but still underleveled in terms of my team)
Anyway, feel free to give me tips, I very much need them

Media & Mythos #1 - Hisuian Starters
Pokemon Legends: Arceus is one of my favorite Pokemon games, not only because of its unconventional yet incredibly fun gameplay, but the way that it incorporates not only Japanese (Yamato) culture but Ainu and Hokkaido culture as well. There are many issues with regards to how PLA writes how the Galaxy Team and the native Hisuians interact within the story, but that is not the focus of this post.
In Ainu culture, the “kamuy” is a divine being that possesses a sort of spiritual energy or serves as a protector of an object, place, or idea. Like the Japanese “kami,” the Ainu term “kamuy” has a wide range of meanings that does not neatly translate into English. It is similar to the Greek “daemon,” which is a divine spirit that usually presides or lords upon a concept or natural force though his not predisposed to good or evil. According to John Batchelor’s The Ainu and Their Folk-lore, "the Ainu apply their term for god to such a variety of objects, both to the greatest and highest good, and also to the lowest and most malignant evil...”
Although the concept of the kamuy as it is is not in Legends Arceus, the starters of the game still allude to the different kamuy present in Ainu religion. The final evolutions of the starters - Decidueye, Typhlosion, and Samurott - exemplify the Ainu culture that Legends Arceus pulls much inspiration from.
Figure 1: Hisuian Decidueye (left) and the Blakiston’s fish owl (right)
Starting off with the Grass-type starter, Hisuian Decidueye may be based off of Chikap-kamuy (or Kotankor-kamuy, as some sources say). Chikap-kamuy is the kamuy of the land that takes the form of a great owl. In Ainu belief, the owl is said to be a watchful entity that presided over the relationship between the humans and the kamuy. It also presides over rituals and monitors whether humans carry them out.
In one legend, Chikap-kamuy sends several birds to the Heavens to deliver a message about a famine. However, Chikap-kamuy’s message was very long, taking several days to even recite. The hondo crow listens first, but dozes off. Therefore, Chikap-kamuy kills it. The mountain jay listens second, but dozes off too. Therefore, Chikap-kamuy kills it as well. The Siberian dipper listens third, and listens respectfully for six days and nights. Therefore, Chikap-kamuy lets it go, where it delivers the message to the Heavens.
The dipper returns to deliver the message that the humans had grown disdainful of the gifts from the kamuy, so the kamuy stopped sending their gifts. Chikap-kamuy then taught the humans how to hunt fish and offer the heads of deer to the inau (ritualistic wood-shaved sticks used in many Ainu practices). The kamuy are happy and the humans learn how to properly carry out rituals. “This myth both serves as an explanatory myth for the relationship with these animals and reemphasizes to the Ainu listeners the importance of making proper offerings, and of the proper ritual behavior that, because of the uncertainties of their lives, tried to ensure their survival.” (Michael Ashkenazy’s Handbook of Japanese Mythology)
Hisuian Decidueye and Chikap-kamuy share many similarities. For one, one of the inspirations for Decidueye seems to be the Blakiston’s fish owl, which lives within the Hokkaido region. According to Bulbapedia, “Hisuian Decidueye is said to have a stalwart, fierce personality, although it will tolerate those who do not act hostile towards it... It tends to have a nomadic lifestyle, wandering the region in search of food.” This is consistent of Chikap-kamuy’s distant nature as a watchful and fierce protector of the land. Though, Chikap-kamuy is not known to be a kamuy who is quick to fight, so perhaps Decidueye’s Fighting-type is a reference to Chikap-kamuy’s temper or derived from another inspiration entirely.
Figure 2: Hisuian Typhlosion (left) and a traditional Ainu household (right)
Moving onto the Fire-type starter, Hisuian Typhlosion may be based off of Kamuy-fuchi. Kamuy-fuchi is the kamuy of the hearth. It is said that she lives in the hearth within each home, as the hearth is the gateway to which the humans and kamuy can communicate with each other. She is one of the most important and powerful kamuy in the Ainu pantheon. She presides not only over the hearth but of domestic affairs and the household.
The hearth is also considered the residence of the dead, acting as a sort of underworld. Therefore, Kamuy-fuchi is considered a psychopomp, or one that guides the souls of the dead. Although Kamuy-fuchi rests at night, the hearth must never be extinguished. Her duty is so important that she never leaves the household, and employs other kamuy to act for her in the outside world.
According to legend, Kamuy-fuchi is the one who taught women how to make the kut (sacred belt worn on the lower abdomen that traces a woman’s matrilineal line). She is known to watch over mothers, for when a woman is going to give birth, a new fire is laid at the birthing place. “[T]hough she was served by men, her ties to women insured some balance between the sexes, at least inasmuch as familial and household affairs were concerned. Her myths demonstrate the relative independence and power that women assumed in Ainu society.” (Michael Ashkenazy’s Handbook of Japanese Mythology)
Hisuian Typhlosion’s typing pays homage to Kamuy-fuchi’s role as both a protector of the hearth and guide of the dead. According to Bulbapedia, “When eating spirits, it is believed that the spirits are purified by Hisuian Typhlosion's flames, before they are guided back to the afterlife where they belong.” Kamuy-fuchi is, as stated before, a psychopomp figure, and her hearth is kept pure by the humans. She does not eat spirits, but perhaps it is more of a symbolic reference than anything, since fire has a purifying aspect to it in many cultures.
As a bonus, Hisuian Typhlosion’s signature move Infernal Parade may be based off of the Hyakki Yagyō, or the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons. The Night Parade was a large parade of yōkai that manifested in the dead of night. It was seen as a sign of ill omen. “On nights when the grotesque procession worked its way across what was then the furthest edge of town, residents were obliged to take refuge in their homes lest they wind up sick, mutilated, or blinded by the sheer sight of its monstrous participants.” (Hiroko Yoda’s Japandemonium Illustrated: The Yokai Encyclopedias of Toriyama Sekien) This ties in with the Ghost-typing of the move, since yōkai often translates to “ghost” or “spirit.”
Figure 3: Hisuian Samurott (left) and an orca whale (right)
And finally, the Water-type starter Hisuian Samurott may be based off of Repun-kamuy. Repun-kamuy is the kamuy of the sea that takes the form of an orca. As a young child, he was known to be devious and unruly, though not truly unkind. He was an important kamuy because he provided gifts and food from the sea.
In one story, Repun-kamuy hunted a whale and her young and three them besides a village. A sea wren told him that the humans are cutting up the whales’ meat without showing the proper care to it. However, Repun-kamuy only laughed and said that the humans may do whatever they please with the meat, for it is theirs.
Later, Repun-kamuy saw that the sea wren had lied, and the humans cut up the whales’ meat with their sacred weapons while wearing their finest clothing. Feeling so grateful from the prayers and rituals of the humans, he held a grand feast for his fellow kamuy. He then declared that humans would know no famine, for the sea would keep them fed. “The mutually dependent relations of humans and kamui are well represented in this myth: The humans need food from nature (stranded whales were a major item of food), and the kamui need the prayers and offerings of the humans.” (Michael Ashkenazy’s Handbook of Japanese Mythology)
This comparison between Hisuian Samurott and Repun-kamuy is, unlike the other two, rather scant in terms of similarities and evidence. According to Bulbapedia, “Hisuian Samurott is said to have a cold and hard-hearted nature, and is deft with its shell blades. Unlike its Unovan counterpart, which prefers fighting fair, Hisuian Samurott will do anything to win a battle, and prefers to use tricks such as surprise attacks and cheap shots.” To my knowledge, Repun-kamuy is not an unfair or cruel god, merely a carefree and mischievous one. The plating on the back of Hisuian Samurott’s head somewhat resembles that of an orca (without the horn, obviously, since orcas don’t have horns). These differences are certainly due to differing inspirations for the Pokemon, though both Samurott and Repun-kamuy have a connection to water and the sea.
Although the Hisuian starters have varying inspirations for their designs and personalities, there is an undeniable link between them and the kamuy worshipped by the Ainu.

For Milky Way Cookie and Fang, 1, 4, 9, and 10 for the Pokemon asks.
Aaaaa! Thank you so much for the ask friend ^^
What favorite Pokemon do you two share, if you share any?
Milky Way Cookie - Milky Way would like a lot of soft or sleepy Pokémon- I can definitely see Komala or Snorlax being big favorites of hers
While I like both of those Pokémon- my favorites have very different vibes (Lurantis, Raikou, and Typhlosion to name a few)- however I can see both of us liking Arcanine (big fluffy fire pupper)
Fang - Smaller more rodent Pokémon I can see him liking- Togedemaru, Dedenne, Rattata. Again- don’t see a lot of similarities between his favorite and mine (even though I do think Rattata is cute-)
Do you know their Pokemon team or starters?
Heck yeah I do!
Milky Way Cookie:
Snorlax
Altaria
Klingklang
Bewear
Sneasel
Fang:
Togedemaru
Alolan Ninetales
Primarina
Aipom
Chimecho
Ivysaur
Which Pokemon do you associate most with them, even if you can't see them owning it?
For Milky Way- Musharna cause of the whole dream aspect thing
And for Fang- likely Lycanroc or Glaceon. Lycanroc cause wolf and Glaceon cause I always associate Fang with ice
Which Pokemon location would you imagine you and your F/O living in?
For me and Milky Way- I can picture us living in Kalos. A single dad and his sleepy conductor child chilling in Couriway City (Milky Way likes the train)
For Fang (gonna include Bam too since Fang adopted the both of us)- I can see living in Sinnoh. Maybe Snowpoint cause again- Ice association. Or Alola cause of his team. Also I like Alola, honestly one of my favorite regions

So for the Pokemon team thing
For Deku:
Lucario because it's probably the most main character pokemon. Also I just really like Lucario. Togekiss because it's been known to show up during times of peace. And in Togepi's Pokedex entries state that it will share it's good luck with people who are kind to it. Espeon is there because I think Deku would have an Eevee. This one is kinda because his costume kinda reminds me of Eevee but also because Eevee's special z move looks like One for All. Braviary is there because its Pokemon entry states that Braviary will fight for the sake of it's friends, even if it is severally injured. Stoutland is a loyal pokemon. Marshadow because it follows others and mimics their powers and moves.
For Bakugou:
Typhlosion is a little obvious but it fit him well. I also am a bit biased since Typhlosion is my favorite starter. Electrode because the move it's well know for is explosion. Aegislash blade form to represent the part of him that's god at fighting and Aegislash shield form to show how he's trying to be more protective. (This one is kinda one I'm unsure about. Also if you wanted to you could make it an Umbreon if you wanted a sun/moon thing) Rillaboom because I think it looks cool and also because it's known to play drums and the Rillaboom that are the best at playing drums become the leaders. Annihilape because reasons. Victini because it is the Pokemon of victory.
When I made these I didn't really consider how good they would be competitively, and I didn't consider the fact that two of the Pokemon I chose are mythicals. If you want to change up the teams and replace some of them you can, I am not entirely sure about the teams but I like them. Sorry if this was a little long
oh wow i love how detailed you were with every pokemon on their team and meaning. cool i love it! i know for sure typhlosion is definitely for bakugou. i think i would probably have deku have just an eevee (but i love espeon it’s my favorite pokemon ever) and i love how you brought the whole sun and moon thing for them with espeon and umbreon (tbh i think i would switch them, deku with umbreon and bakugou with espeon, but that’s just me). also since you brought up eevee’s z move, you’re absolutely right it does remind me of ofa!
thank you for sending me this i loved this so much ❤️

Potatoes Pokémon Teams
Rules: Full teams of 6; 1 starter (pichu and eevee count); 1 legendary; fully evolved to show growth; Gen 1-4 (because I'm a Sinnoh boi)
Aru:
Raichu: It would be almost insulting not to give the team leader the face of the show, especially when she has lightning-based powers.
Gengar: A tricky pokemon for an even trickier trainer.
Gyrados: Nothing matches Aru's zero to hero story like a Magikarp evolving into this wild badass.
Lucario: Someone who respects Aru's growth into a strong leader.
Tyranitar: A reference to Godzilla and Aru's general taste in movies.
Moltres: I think we all know which firebird this one reminds her of.
Mini:
Empoleon: Piplup just looks like a bubble that could pop at any moment and Mini's first instinct was "must protecc"
Blissey: Doctor meets her nurse.
Rapidash: Flashback to her favorite night mare.
Dusknoir: First picked Duskull because it matched her death aesthetic.
Marowak: Similar weapons. Bones also match her aesthetic.
Giratina: Basically Pokemon's God of the dead.
Brynne:
Charizard: I distinctly remember Brynne mentioning this.
Nidoqueen: Takes a queen to know one.
Machamp: Strong wrestler...need I say more?
Ditto: Two shapeshifters meet.
Mamoswine: Two foodies meet.
Regigigas: Powerhouse that made the continents [possibly with bare hands]
Nikita:
Meganium: I've seen Chikorita show as much sass as Nikita.
Roserade: Elegance and a natural for the stage.
Milotic: Close to a mermaid and also a natural for the stage.
Beautifly: Cute. Also, it's the perfect compliment for Sheela's Dustox. (They both had Wurmples that evolved differently)
Gardevoir: Elegance and it's already wearing a dress.
Celebi: Small, cute, and in Mystery Dungeon, not a pushover.
Sheela:
Typhlosion: Sheela thought Cyndaquil looked cute when it was sleeping...until she found out it was awake.
Alakazam: Same deal with Abra.
Espeon: A fellow psychic.
Dustox: Cute. Also, it's the perfect compliment for Nikita's Beautifly. (They both had Wurmples that evolved differently)
Altaria: Something that has its head in the clouds as often as she does
Jirachi: It wraps its yellow ribbons around itself like a blanket when it sleeps. How could she resist?!?
Kara:
Venusaur: Bulbasaur's a classic!
Sunflora: Sun-based and lively.
Solrock: Sun-based. Also psychic like someone she knows.
Girafarig: Two-faced and relatable.
Unown: A Pokemon based on words?!? WANT!
Cresselia: Enchanting.
Aiden:
Sceptile: Suave badass
Luxray: Wild and full of lightning like Aru.
Staraptor: Suave badass with wings.
Gallade: Suave bad- yeah, I'm seeing the pattern...
Kangaskhan: Flashback to the days of carrying around his backpack.
Dialga: God of Time. Can capture time in an instant like his camera.
Rudy:
Feraligatr: Wild reptile
Smeargle: Messy artist
Kricketune: Musician.
Chatot: Singer/Musician
Sableye: Good eye for gems and vice versa.
Rayquaza: The most powerful snake ever.
Obviously, this is just my own guesswork and you guys are more than free to reblog with teams you think would suit them better.

Well I said I was going to have to figure out how to work out the team shot and trainer card, but it turns out I didn't need to do much, so it all went about as planned.
All of these Fakemon are not made by me, and in this case are made by Watertrainer from DA. I did do another lazy splice and rearrange of my own trainer sprite though. I wanted to sort of give myself a similar vibe to the protagonist design, and I think I'm okay with the design, although I am a bit too lazy to resize my head lol.
Anyway, my team from Solar Light and Lunar Dark.
more under the cut
I actually played a demo a few years back that went about to Rassic City, but got stuck due to a bug that stopped me around gym 4 or 5. The game's creators are (or were at the least) pretty cool, with one even offering to fix my bug for me (and he probably did, I just didn't know how to implement the fix). I said it in my review, but I really like the fakemon concepts and designs, and there was so many that I wish I had room for about 4 more Pokemon. Apparently a lot of the designs were conceptualized pre gen 4, and that's just fantastic.
I've been trying to do some unique things with my regional cards, but SLLD is actually somewhat unique among the fakemon games I've played because it's pretty unique in that its more traditional without a regional gimmick. So, I improvised a bit with sort of a clipped design and some zig zags at the corners. I also made a new background design by making a grid out of a series of circles, so hopefully that looks good too. Plus, I used pentagons instead of my usual stuff to try and account for the bigger sprites, and I had space between them, so I did a little sun and moon mural for the Solar and Lunar title thing
As for how Poke Den got to Rikoto, well, how does he get anywhere other than by accident? I feel like he probably went for a boat ride in Tandor or something, took a nap, and found himself in Poke New Zealand Rikoto. The stakes weren't really as high as other regions, so I imagine he just kinda went "fuck it" and decided to explore and take in the beautiful scenery. And as usual, for some reason he pisses off just the right people and ends up babysitting some kids that keep claiming they're his rivals.
Gonna be real, I liked the fact that I stumbled across the New Zealand map in the game because I wasn't able to tell before, but now its super obvious. Rikoto is a beautiful region and probably my favorite in terms of diversity in the recent fan games I've played, not to mention I would KILL to live in the tropical areas.
this is my team
1. (Mega) Salaslam: Water/Poison: Our starter for the region, and funnily enough, just like my first Pokemon ever, a Typhlosion in Silver, I didn't realize she was a girl until like, 7 gyms in. She's strong boi, and I relied on her a bunch especially in late game after I acquired her mega. I think I like water types in theory the best, so I imagine it was a very obvious pick for me, especially when its baby form is so adorable. Probably went from the rambunctious baby to friendly but dangerous monster as it evolved.
2. Aeroma: Flying/Grass: One of the earliest caught Pokemon on the team, and I almost replaced him, but he's honestly very useful and comes in clutch when I need him to the most. I imagine ours sings a lot since it learned Sing and Grass Whistle at some point in our journey
3. Lunape: Psychic: A traded monke boy that I loved so much as a Moonky. I just loved saying his name. Moonky. It awoke something primal in me. Its funny because I accidentally over trained him at first, so he initially wouldn't listen to me until until like gym 3. I imagine we're good friends now. He's actually pretty good for capturing Pokemon, not so much for battles, but he comes in clutch sometimes. In fact, he pretty much carried my team in the champion battle.
4. Werehide (Shiny): My favorite of the bunch I believe. Apparently there's a bug that makes it easier to find Shinies in this game, which I believe since I found 2 of them, but this one was my first and I decided to keep her. She spent the longest time as her previous form, Beopup, until like level 53 so she could learn Play Rough. I imagine she was my shoulder buddy for the longest time because of that, and despite being theoretically the "weaker" of the team, she kept up just fine as Beopup. After evolving, she became SO much stronger, I actually solo'd the ice gym with her, I think. The only issue is that Werehide's ability is Hustle, which makes her hit like a fuckin truck, but she's about as accurate as a broken clock. I do imagine she's like my dog and is a good doggo that likes pets, but goes feral in a fight.
5. Dinopion: Fighting/Dragon. I almost replaced him too, but there was really no reason. As a Dinomite, he was kinda weak and kept getting KO'd a lot, but once he evolved he started kicking ass and didn't ever stop. His Moxie ability, monstrous attack, and diverse move pool make him such a MONSTER to deal with for my enemies, but he is kinda frail. But if he outspeeds you and knocks out one of your guys, you've basically already lost the battle. My Dinopion was basically able to Solo Rick's Elite 4 team. I gotta imagine he's a rough and rowdy but good dino boy with a hankering for power and glory. I think my guy likes him a lot now because he's a DINOSAUR, and we like dinosaurs in this house.
6. Natoron: Ground. I LOVE DINOSAURS. And this guy is a heckin' dinosaur!!! He had a tough time at the beginning, but once he evolved once, he started kicking ass. There was an awkward time towards the last few gyms where after he evolved again, he started losing a lot more, but he's been very reliable as a wall and tank. By the end, he had both Earthquake, Head Smash, and Stone Edge, so he could dish out a SHIT ton of damage. I gotta imagine he's a bit slower, usually tries to eat grass when he sees it, and he's a gentle giant that my Poke self adores because he's a DINOSAUR
Anyway this was fun to make. I'm gonna be looking for more fakemon games to play through because I just love em, and I love making little trainer cards for my playthroughs.

Also got a pokemon ask! Curious what your top 3 pokemon are!? Mine's Typhlosion cause that was my original starter. 2 is suicune and 3 is litten.
Bidoof gets an honorable mention of course.
OOOOH that's a hard one! Luxray is definitely my favorite - my Luxray named Alara was my team main through Platinum and I love her so much. Second is probably Snom, just because he's so fucking cute and also incredibly powerful in battle for a bug! Third is tricky. I love Charizard because he was my first starter, but I'm also a simp for Shedinja just because it's so cool. I'm gonna go with that, but if I think of a better answer I will definitely say so!
My honorable mention is always Entei, because I played pretend with my best friend as a kid. We were dittos that tended to take the form of an Entei (me) and a Raikou (her). Giovanni was after us and we were constantly getting captured and foiling his plans. Some of my most beloved childhood memories are pretending to rescue my friend from Giovanni's clutches. We would play at recess and at her house and at my house and at the park and-

BNHA students in Pokémon
summary: Some BNHA students and their Pokemon team and status if they were in that world. (part one, i want to make a mini series out of this so it’s heavily self-indulgent)
warnings: none
style & genre: bulleted; au
notes: a self-indulgent thing for me b/c this au has to happen. Thank you for reading. also i am in the midst of writers block but the last requests will be out soon!
most of the bullets will be in relation to the main character izuku because why not
*teams inspired by this because i had trouble figuring out who would fit with who and honestly bakugo’s team looks like him aHA

Main Traveling Group:
Midoriya Izuku
Starting Aventure: bulbasaur, aipom
Completed Team: venusaur, lucario, ambipom, floatzel, butterfree, garchomp
I was gonna say he gives off main character vibes then I remembered he was actually a main character already good job ness
but yes izuku here is on his way to become a pokemon champion!
i’m thinking he’d be pretty well-rounded with his team but his starter is definitely a grass type
his pokemon are so concerned whenever they go check out some cave or ancient ruin
izuku’s like “let’s explore!”
and his pokemon look at each other and then at him like “but please don’t try to move and jump on stuff alone pLeAsE bE cAREFUL”
they have venusaur keep him in vines sometimes
literally everyone loves him (all the gym leaders, all the recovery girls, etc.)
he manages to have todoroki and shinsou as travel buddies like how
they’re all like “i didn’t start training to make friends” and boom they’re a close knit group
very very ambitious and headstrong in his goals
he did get noticed by the champion after all *cough* all might *cough*
Todoroki Shouto
Starting Adventure: eevee, eevee, milotic
Completed Team: glaceon, flareon, ninetails, alolan ninetails, milotic, volcarona
he’s izuku’s first travelling companion
his father wanted him to become the strongest trainer to carry on his family tradition but he just wanted to see the rest of the world, considering he’s been couped up training for most of his life
he was sent off on his own trainer journey and was unknowledgeable about a lot of real world things
when he met izuku, he was cold towards him but warmed up after seeing how dedicated and kind the other was to pokemon and people alike
“it’s your destiny, todoroki!” ahaha get it
like i said, everyone loves izuku even shouto
todo is cold to strangers but is kind to them after becoming friends
trainers like battling with him because he’s offers their pokemon the eXPENSIVE full restores after battle
and their pokemon swoon over how nice and pretty he is while he tends to their wounds
speaking of pokemon, his are hot and cold as expected
sometimes they clash but he’s always there to be the mediator
he’s unfamiliar with “common” things because he grew up in a closed off environment
likes travelling around, experiencing new things and meeting new people along the way
Shinsou Hitoshi
Starting Adventure: gengar, purrloin
Team: gengar, liepard, espeon, skitty, weaville, crobat, meinshao
the people around him, mainly his classmates, were afraid of him because of the pokemon he attracts
he also had gengar since he was young, the pokemon being a gift from his parents
every time he tries to make friends they run off because his pokemon’s looks make the other ppl scared
that’s why he now rejects anyone trying to get close to him because the last time it happened they just used him
he couldn’t reject izuku though aha so yeah he’s part of the group now
he is a pretty laidback trainer and is more focused on techniques rather than pure strength
mentor aizawa
took shinsou under his wing when he was young and shinsou always calls him for guidance or just for a chat
has a weakness for cat-like pokemon
the main reason he actually joined izuku’s group is because the green haired male saved a skitty
she’s is the newest addition to his team and he loves her aww
he’s the voice of reason for the group but sometimes he just holds back when he wants something interesting to start especially when bakugo challenges izuku or todoroki to a battle
Challengers & Rivals:
Bakugou Katsuki
Starting Adventure: cyndaquil
Completed Team: typhlosion, electrode, magmortor, arcanine, houndoom, primeape
all pokemon stories have rivals okay bakugou is pERFECT for this
he and izuku met when they were little and because he was more into battling and training, he got annoyed when izuku was recognized by the champion
all his pokemon are as fiery as he is aHA
they love training and can keep up with their trainer’s outbursts and all that we love supportive teammates
he scares every single person he goes up against EXCEPT for izuku & co.
todoroki 's unbothered, shinsou calls bluff on his intimidation, and izuku sees him as a role model as well as rival
gets really annoyed with the trio because he just can’t fULLY beat them
the win ratios are pretty even but this boy wants to win all of his battles with a large power gap because that’s how he rolls
he LOVES using power and intimidation when battling and it’s actually pretty cool to watch his matches
they always have some type of flare to them and never get boring
overall, he’s a strong and resilient trainer who worked hard to get to the top
Kirishima Ejirou
Position: Fighting-Type Gym Leader
Team: blaziken, infernape, hariyama, machamp, medicham, hitmonchan
i’ll just make all their ages ambiguious k thanks
i feel like he’d be a really good gym leader
he’s so uplifting and motivational, it doesn’t affect the self-esteem of anyone who loses to him because he’s there complimenting their strengths and giving them pointers on what they and their team can work better on
man i wish he was in game now he’d be my favorite
he kind of reminds me of island kahuna hala in a way
trains with bakugo a lot because, though the blond won’t admit it, he actually likes training with him kiribaku
when he meets the main group, they all lost their first battle with him because this guy just knows
he’s so in-tune with his pokemon, all that strength and in their bond is so strong
after giving them their fair share of praise and advice, their second battles were won and they received their fighting badges :)
Kaminari Denki
Position: that pikachu guy Electric-Type Gym Leader
Team: pikachu (ik ik but it fits ok), girafig, ampharos, plusle, minun
so hype much wow very exciting
every single battle he does is so flashy with all these effects and whatnot but it fits his aesthetic
think nimbasa city and the runway elesa has before she battles someone
that’s all him
now, his team isn’t really built on defense but they do have a lot of special power, mostly seen in their use of thunderbolt they all know how to use thunderbolt what the heck denki
at one point in his life he thought about owning a farm where pikachu could hang out
he just really likes pikachus and everywhere there’s one they follow him because he looks like them
he’s kind of more bark than bite and might accidentally electrocute himself during battle
concerned izuku when he walked right into a thunderbolt
todoroki was about to ask if he wanted a full restore before the boy realized that it was only for pokemon
he’s in it for the fun of the battle and doesn’t really care if he loses or not unless the trainers are all talk much like he is but ily denki
Iida Tenya
Positon: that trainer they meet on a mountain i’m sorry iida
Team: skamory, straptor, bisharp, gallade
he reminds me of all the trainers that stand there and are like “LeT’s BaTtLe” when you walk in their line of vision
much love iida but that’s who you remind me of haha
he’s the guy that goes by the rules ofc and is a v good sport after losing a battle
when he encounters the main group, he’s training with his pokemon
they were building up and reinforcing their speed and he saw this as a perfect opportunity to learn by battle new people
lost to all three of them
but as mentioned he’s a good sport and the four of them set up camp for the night on the mountain and talk about strtegies and the like
when they part ways he’s telling them that he’ll see them and battle them again
guy wasn’t kidding they fought him like fifteen times total during their journey
i chose his pokemon based on how they look in comparison to him and laughed when i realized there was gallade
because you know gallade’s arms are like blades it reminds me of how iida does that hand thing
like
it was funnier in my head
Uraraka Ochaco
Position: works at the Pokemon Center, training buddies with the main travelling group
Team: gardevoir, togekiss, musharna, clefairy, jigglypuff
she works at the pokemon center for recovery girl
pink is all i see and it fits her aesthetic really
that rhymed
anyways she is super super sweet and loves working at the center, all the people who come in enjoy seeing her
she actually sees the main trio a lot b/c they and their pokemon do a lot of stuff and end up injured
izuku went to the pokemon center five times in a day and his pokemon weren’t even hurt it was jUST hIM
after that she insisted on coming with them to get some experience outside of the building as well as make sure that they mostly izuku and their pokemon would be alright
half of her pokemon are mature and very, what’s the word, elegant (gardevoir and musharna) and the others are playful yet competitive (togekiss, jigglypuff, & clefairy)
her pokemon know the moves that have to do with teleportation and flying/floating and they enjoy using it even when their trainer is gets motion sickness easily
overall, she joins the group when she can/sees them and they are gratefull to hang out with her
-- more characters to be added soon! --

Pokémon Team-Up: Mammalian Firestarters
Of the five Fire-Type starter Pokémon I own these three are all the ones based on mammals (and the other two are Charizard and Blaziken). They’re warm-blooded and for more than one reason.
“Vulcan”: The Roman god of war’s name invokes the imagery of a raging volcano and I like to think of Typhlosion the same way. This guy was cut from my Gold Version team for a while and replaced with Houndoom because - let’s face it - Typhlosion is kind of bland by comparison. More recently, however, I reintroduced him to the team because the nostalgia for Houndoom just doesn’t hit as hard. I still remember the day I received my little Cyndaquil and I just couldn’t exclude him anymore.
“Maroon”: My favorite Bugs Bunny line is definitely “what a maroon!” so I had to make reference to it with this rabbity guy. Plus my first Fire-Type starter, Charizard, is also named after a warm color (”Red”) so maroon felt somewhat fitting.
“Wheeler”: Named for jumpin’ Joey Wheeler of Yu-Gi-Oh! and for the Planeteer of fire from Captain Planet and the Planeteers. Fun fact, both of those characters are from Brooklyn, where I live now. Okay, maybe Joey is technically Japanese but his accent is still from Brooklyn, damn it.

I'd love to hear about your favorite pokemon!

OKAY so my long time favorite is Ninetales. I loved Ninetales ever since I was a little kid because I just loved graceful animals and ever since I played Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team, I was in love with that graceful, mystical fox. I honestly don’t know if I still love Ninetales as much as I used to, but I still have this deep fondness of Ninetales because of how much I loved her when I was young. She’s a pretty basic-looking fox monster, isn’t she? Over the years, Gamefreak came up with so many more fox Pokemon with much more creative designs and gimmicks, but Ninetales will always be the best fox Pokemon to me. I also looove her Alolan form. I might actually like Alolan Ninetales better than Kantonian Ninetales, but I’m still not sure (at least I still don’t have a plush of Alolan Ninetales.... hmmm.).
My other long time favorite is Suicune. Another really graceful, beautiful animal. Their aesthetic is what I kind of strive to be perceived as: elegant with both a vague sense of femme and a vague sense of masc. Strong, yet dainty. I always kind of admired how the species they’re based off of is so much more vague than Raikou and Entei’s. I used to argue with people that said that they were supposed to be a wolf in YouTube comments. Because logically, they would be a leopard, since Raikou is a tiger and Entei is a lion, right? But they really don’t look like a leopard, do they? Even though logically I always knew they’re supposed to be a leopard, they always looked more like a fusion of a wolf and a horse. My two favorite animals at the time I started liking Pokemon, which is probably another reason why I took such a liking to them. They sound like what I imagine a polar bear sounds like, and that’s beautiful.
I’ve always had such a fondness for Absol that I’m surprised I never regarded him as a favorite of mine sooner, but. Absol was the first Pokemon I really sympathized with. The whole being blamed for natural disasters thing. I would wake up to reruns of the Hoenn seasons of the Pokemon anime playing on my TV and got really excited when one day it happened to be an episode starring that cool Pokemon that saved me and BulbasaurS from Articuno in PMD: Blue Rescue Team. I always knew she was a good Pokemon and I wish it was as obvious to the townspeople in that episode as it was to me. They were also the closest thing Pokemon had to a wolf at the time to me, my reasoning being that Absol is misunderstood the same way wolves are (my big thing at the time was being mad that wolves were always the bad guys in most media)! So you could imagine my confusion when I went to look up fanart and saw Absol lumped in with the cat Pokemon because of his face. I still think her anatomy is more doglike than catlike.
I went nuts over Buizel. I coveted that Buizel Pokedoll plush on PokemonCenter.com every single day probably for months until the day I actually got it from Nintendo World. I imagined myself as a Pokemon trainer with Buizel as my partner, somehow being able to take down a Ho-Oh on its own (I don’t think I really understood that Ho-Oh was a powerful legendary Pokemon at the time tbh). The weird thing is, I don’t even like water-type Pokemon, or anything to do with water powers in general. The other weird thing is that I don’t really remember actually using Buizel on my team when I played Pokemon Diamond. I assume it’s because Diamond was my first main series Pokemon game and I guess I didn’t really understand switching Pokemon from you PC and leveling them up until I got way, way later in the game. Buizel is one of those Pokemon that I kinda forget exists, but whenever I remember him my heart goes doki doki.
Between Buizel and Quilava, I’m pretty sure I loved weasels before I even knew that much about them irl. When I heard about HeartGold and SoulSIlver coming out, I knew I was choosing Cyndaquil not because of Cyndaquil (although he is really cute), not for Typhlosion, but for Quilava. I was just gaga over Quilava. He has such a simple design but man he is so adorable. The middle of the evolution lines for the starter Pokemon have always been very underrated and I always thought Quilava outshined both his pre-evolution and his evolution. Typloshion always just kinda came off to me as a generic tough guy, while Cyndaquil at least is cute in a more unique way than your typical cute Pokemon. But Quilava oozes with personality. I’m like 75-80% sure if I had a Pokemon partner it’d be him.
Turtwig. My first starter Pokemon ever. I remember seeing the starters for Sinnoh as Sinnoh was slowly being revealed on Pokemon.com - as I’d gotten into Pokemon right at the tail end of Gen 3 when RSE were already kinda obsolete and PMD first came out - and I immediately gravitated toward Turtwig. Even if I slowly learned to love the other two, Turtwing just felt the most “me”, yanno? Actually, if I were to pick which starter Pokemon was the most “me”, it’d still probably be Turtwig (if not, it’d be Cyndaquil). Something about the shape of his head and his stumpy little body and the way he sounds just appeals to me specifically, yanno? He’s cute in a way that doesn’t appeal to everyone and I always liked that about him. Piplup and Chimchar were way more popular than he was, probably because Piplup was more conventionally cute and Chimchar was cool - I had to stand up for my turty-boi because other kids made fun of him. He’s a lot more popular nowadays than he was back in 2006 when if you were a girl would wanted to be a popstar and if you were a boy you wanted to be gangsta. Or something. Idk I was never really in touch with my peers.
And of course my newest favorite is Lycanroc, specifically dusk form! I would love to be able to go back in time and tell my kid self that not only are there gonna be actual wolf Pokemon, but wolf Pokemon with blue shiny forms (she loved blue)! Shamelessly how I came up with my namesake, dusk form Lycanroc is the Pokemon I imagine I’d be if I were a Pokemon. I just generally like how all of Lycanroc’s forms are designed (even if dusk form is a recolor of midday form shhh I excuse that because I just like dusk form’s coloration much better); something about a wolf being translated into Pokemon’s art style is so cool. Another thing it did for me is give me a favorite rock-type Pokemon, because I really never liked any rock-types beforehand (probably because I’m a furry). Midnight form Lycanroc also has the same body type as Lacmac from the Rayman cartoon aaaaaand yes I bitched for someone to trade me a shiny male Rockruff for the shiny female Rockruff I wound up with when I shiny hunted Rockruff until my partner let me have it so I could name him Lacmac. Would’ve been much less a pain in the ass if non-shiny midnight Lycanroc was blue because he looks cooler in blue than in red anyway, but whatever.
Thank you for giving me an excuse to ramble about why I love the Pokemon I love! I mean, I stayed up later than I intended to typing this but I enjoyed every second of it! Even if I’m probably gonna wake up tomorrow and realize I forgot to talk about like ten other Pokemon.

Welcome, Grookey, to the Honorable Fraternity of Under-Appreciated Starters
As Gita Jackson so aptly said on Kotaku, upon the reveal of the “Sword” and “Shield” starting Pokemon:
“People are already picking favorites. I love Scorbunny, though I also have a soft spot for Sobble. Grookey is also present.” Yes, if memes are indeed an expression of fan-love, it would seem that people are not overly “fauna” of the newest addition to the “grass type” family. But fear not, little guy; you are at least in good company. Here, submitted for your collective disapproval, are the most overlooked/undervalued starter Pokemon from each generation.

Gen 1: Bulbasaur
Having two brothers when the o.g. Pokemon released, we each, through no prior agreement or instruction, picked a different starter. The oldest picked Charmander, the youngest Squirtle. I, also the under-loved middle child, chose Bulbasaur. No regrets, but it always kinda bothered me that this meant I didn’t get to have my final evolution on the face of the game box. I knew that in Japan it was Blastoise who got the cold shoulder, but that did little to appease 12 year old Jeremy. Maybe the recent trend of pro-Bulbasaur Propaganda would have helped, although it’s a few decades late imho.

Gen 2: Cyndaquil
At first glance there are no clear losers, which might be part of the reason why this set is widely regarded as the best of all time. However, as teenagers, my brothers and I were always disappointed in final stage of the fire starter, Cyndaquil. For comparison, Croconaw becomes a bad-ass alligator, and Bayleef a flower-maned brontosaurus. But the forgettable Quilava just kinda stands up. If you think I’m exaggerating, imagine having clay sculptures of the middle evolutions, and realize how much less work it would take to reform it into Typhlosion. Kinda too easy, right?

Gen 3: Mudkip
There’s a reason only one of these evolution lines got snubbed by the Pokken Tournament organizers. You’ve got a gecko, a chicken, and a… what even is that, anyway? Turn out he’s based on an Axolotl, which is at the top of zero “favorite animal” checklists. No wonder, Urban Dictionary lists the phrase “So I Herd you Leik Mudkipz” as an insult.

Gen 4: Chimchar
My first instinct was to go with Turtwig, as I feel his evolution line is the hardest for people to remember, but then I realized that Gen 4 was the origin of Fire/Fighting Fatigue. It’s now a running joke in the Pokemmunity that every fire starter will end as a yawn-inducing Fire/Fighting anime cliche, and it wasn’t until Infernape pulled off the hat trick in this generation that people really caught on/got salty. Thanks a lot, guys.
Gen 5: Oshawott/Tepig Can I be honest for a second? This is the only Gen in the series I never played, so I’m a little torn on this one and would love some feedback. Tepig definitely seemed to be the most boring design of the three (his name is one letter away from Tepid, for Christ’s sake), but I think Oshawott’s final evolution is kinda lost in the sands of time. I’m just ruling out Snivy because he was so beloved at his reveal that some, like Kotaku’s Brian Ashcraft, still prefer his fan-given pseudonym, Smugleaf. I happen to agree.

Gen 6: Chespin Another tough call, but here’s my logic: Greninja is such a beloved ‘Mon that he plays major roles in both Smash Bros and the upcoming Detective Pikachu movie. I also eliminated Fennekin because of Japan’s endless love for foxes and Braixen’s endlessly adorable inclusion in Pokken Tournament. Chespin, as much as I thought his design was a breath of fresh air after way too many “flower dinosaurs,” just doesn’t have the clout. Plus, Louise Belcher wears it better.

Gen 7: Popplio
When Pokemon Sun and Moon were revealed, the disdain for this clown-seal was immediate and intense. People thought he looked too silly, too cute, too ugly; you name it. Furthermore, the devs faced actual backlash from the fandom, and responded to multiple interviews in which they were asked, “How does it feel to know people hate Popplio so much?”, making him the ultimate underdog/puppy-thing. At least his evolution line gets the last laugh by turning into a magical underwater opera singer. Litten’s final stage is so predictable and Bro-y it actually made my wife NOT pick the cat starter, which says a lot (trust me).

Gen 8: Grookey
Which of course, brings us to today, where this “curious, tricky bastard” rates a solid Shrug-and-a-half on the MEH scale. But don’t worry, little guy. You’ll always have a place on my team. My older brothers already picked the cooler ones anyway. :-P

top 5 fairy-type pokemon 👀
put “top 5” anything in my ask and i will answer | Accepting!
This one was…surprisingly hard. When I looked at this ask I was like “Yeah okay this is easy I know my favorite fairy types-” but as it turned out theres only like 4 fairy types I don’t really like and only like 3 I don’t really have an opinion on…2 and 3 were easy though.
Honorable mention’s: The ones I think are really cool but I can’t say much on them ‘cos I’ve never used them or have only recently started warming up to them: Florges, Comfey, Whimsicott, Ribombee, Mawile.
Gardevoir. This is gonna go in reverse cos I can’t count down from 5 using in built features-I dunno man it’s hard for me to explain some of these cause there aren’t many to choose from. I either really like fairy types or just kinda don’t have an opinion. (except you Azumarill and Marill, my irrational disdain for you will rage on forever) but I dunno man, I always kinda liked sleek designs and recently (like within the last year recently) I’ve really started warming up to Gardevoir? Furry memes aside it’s a really pretty Pokemon and aesthetically I really like it to a point where I caved and made it one of my other muses main pokemon in their Pokemon au.
Diancie. My favorite legendary! I can’t really explain this one because it kinda came out of nowhere but honestly? It’s just cute. I think Diancie is cute. I like pink things (Assuming the pink is done right) and I really like it’s design? the colors are nice and I wish to hold its hand
Primarina. This one is where the list gets easier because I loved Primarina immedietly. When SuMo was still on the horizon and the starter evo’s got leaked Primarina made me pray to god they were real (and they were). Theres something about Primarina that makes me love it? it’s just so elegant and I honestly considered giving Gold one for a long time because of how much it didn’t suit him and how I thought it might be fun to play around with the idea of Gold having Pokemon that don’t work with him. there are actually shades of that in Gawain to this day!
Togekiss. Admittedly it’s pretty recently that I’ve started liking Togekiss as much as I do. I never really disliked Togekiss but I never really loved it either, back when I first made Gold he didn’t even have Togekiss, his flying type was actually Crowbat. After a while though I thought it might be interesting to have Gold interact with a big cuddly baby and writing Golds Togekiss made me really love it because of how much time I had to spend thinking about it. A lot like Typhlosion except I still don’t really love Typhlosion or anything I just kinda like it now.
Sylveon. It’s not even a contest. Not only is Sylveon my favorite fairy type Pokemon it’s my second favourite pokemon in general after Infernape. Back when I started playing X&Y I didn’t have many opinions on Sylveon, I thought it was cute and everything but I didn’t love it or anything, but I wanted to try out fairy type so I gave Sylveon a go and ooooooooh boy. Unintentionally I ended up doing a Sylveon only run through X&Y and I loved it so much. My friends and I memed up how good Sylveon was because when we battled it didn’t matter what I did, so long as Sylveon was good to go I still won. Sylveon was not only the first time I really got attached to a Pokemon in a game, it was also the first Pokemon plush I ever got, and I’ve had a Sylveon on every team I’ve battled with since then! I just…I really love Sylveon. Lucas recently enabled me giving Gold one and I’m just…I’m so happy. Bonus points because Valerie also has a Sylveon and Val is probably one of my top 5 gym leaders? she’s up there.

Starter Tier List
This concept was done by a Poketuber by the name of Aura Guardian. I liked the idea of it so much that I did my own version of a few weeks ago while I was “watching” the video.
While most tier lists are based off of skill this one is based off of pure opinion. It will be ranked like your typical American grading system of A-F while adding in SSS Rank like you find in a lot of Japanese games using rank.
Rank F - Sceptile
This is the weakest Gen 3 starter for me. There is nothing I like about it., well maybe except its shiny. I don’t find Treeko cute/cool, despite my fondness for The Mystery Dungeon series I don’t like Grovyle’s design, and Sceptile (nor Mega Sceptile) appeals to me. There are better grass starters.
Emboar
Tepig is cute. That’s the ONLY reason this line is higher than the previous one.
Greninja
(I am about to get SO much backlash for this!)
I am going to have to go with Ace Trainer Liam here and say that Frogadier looks so much better than Greninja. Not only is Greninja so awkward looking but I hate its level up moveset! Originally I thought it had no business being a dark type, but honestly I’m feeling this way towards its water typing. You can argue this for its dark typing, but the ONLY reason it’s a water type is because it’s a frog (and maybe it being blue...). And unless you’re running a Protean ability Greninja than the damn thing is not that good! In my playthrough of Y with Greninja (I like to play with a starter to give it a chance) it was the weakest member on my team! My Aromatisse was far more viable and it’s not even on a competitive radar!
Charizard
Charmander is cute. I have fond memories of the anime with the entire line. I can understand why Charizard is a fan favorite. But I don’t like the way Charmeleon looks, and there are better fire starters. Sorry Charizard. Nice shiny though!
Rank D - Chesnaught
Generation 6 had some of the weakest starter designs I’ve ever seen. While Chesnaught appeals to me... the rest of the line not so much. Ironically Chespin was my reluctant pick for Gen 6, and I say this because the first evolutions are underwhelming, but a certain unnamed starter from this trio took its place.
Meganium
This starter line is okay. That’s the only reason why it is where it is on the list. I have nothing bad nor good to say about it. It’s not my favorite or despised either.
Infernape
Infernape looks pretty badass. It’s pre-evolutions I honestly don’t care for. Plus it has better competition in this trio.
Rank C - Feraligatr
Totodile is cute. Feraligatr is pretty badass. Croconaw... dear God that thing is ugly lol! It’s resonates better than the Meganium line and that;s why it’s higher on the list.
Swampert
It has a solid design and typing. It’s am automatic secondary pick for the trio it’s in.
Incineroar
This starter has come a loooong way! I initially despised this entire line! But after bonding with it I have a new found perspective of it. Unfortunately Litten is still unappealing to me, but I blame the 3D model. I though Torrecat was pretty damn ugly upon its reveal, but Pokemon Refresher showed how cute it was~ I also adore its sassy personality~ Incineroar grew on me as well. I used to find its design horrendous but then I figured out what about it I loathed, and that my friends... is its hands! They look cartoony being way too big on the Pokemon and it looks like it had all fingers instead of fingers and a thumb. Other than that... it has great charisma and I’m glad I gave the line a chance~!
Blastoise
There are not enough good middle stage evolutions for starters, and by God Wartortle is sooo adorable~! The ears just slay me~ But aside from my gushing Blastoise has a well designed water starter line. It;s not my favorite but I have nothing bad to say about it.
Rank B - Samurott
Oshawott was an easy choice for me among the Gen 5 starters. It was adorable and it won my heart instantaneously~! The final evolution in the form of Samurott wasn’t my favorite at first, but it’s grown on me~ Just wish the move pool was a little better... (Also! It should have had fighting not Goddamn Emboar! D<)
Serperior
Sassy and cute things are my weakness and Snivy was no exception to that rule. While I’m not a big fan of the middle evolution in this line, it doesn’t waver its place on this list. At some point I will use a Serperior to better appreciate this Pokemon.
Torterra
While I have not officially used one in the official Pokemon games I never realized how badly I needed the dual typing of grass and ground. Grotle was a God send in Pokemon Glazed for that stupidly overpowered first gym! (The game was great but for fuck sake the beginning of it was a pain in the ass for no reason other than that dumb idea that harder = challenging!) Torterra is a beast and one day I will finally add it to an official playthrough~
Empoleon
While I love the unique typing this final evolution has... sonavabitch do I hate the fact that it’s weak to a type it should be able to take out...! To be honest I’m not a fan of the middle evolution. It looks super awkward and doesn’t fit in with the cuteness of Piplup and the regalness of Empoleon. But in generation 4 there isn’t a contest for starters when you have such an adorable little starter who becomes something that classy and badass!
Rank A - Delphox
Fennekin was my least favorite of the first evolutions for the Gen 6 trio. While it’s still not my favorite in design, in fact, all the Gen 6 starters are unappealing to me, I adore what it becomes. Just like Torterra the unique typing of fire and psychic is desirable combination I didn’t realize I wanted (I know Victini has it but I don’t use legendaries)~ While I have used one in Pokemon X my official introduction to this Pokemon was in a fanmade game called Pokemon Insurgence (it is an amazing game which I highly recommend to any Pokemon fan), which may it and the other Delphox R.I.P. since they both perished in my egglocke 3;= While Braixen is the best designed out of the line Delphox isn’t half-bad~ That model cry though... *shudders*
Primarina
Popplio was kinda cute when first revealed. When Primarina was leaked I instantly fell in love with it~ ...Brionne... well... I hate it initially. I thought it was goofy looking upon its reveal. HOWEVER, Pokemon Refresher changed my mind so fast on that! Brionne is still awkward looking but in an adorable way now. It makes my heart melt~ I simply love Primarina and he was the star of my Ultra Moon playthrough~!
Venusaur
That’s right ya’ll, I’m a Bulbasaur fan! I chose easy mode and ain’t lookin’ back! What can I say about this dinosaur plant thing...? It’s just so cute~! And grass types are in my top 5 favorite types. While Ivysaur is a bit meh for me I can tolerate it better than other middle starter evolutions. Venusaur is just a huge more mature Bulbasaur with a big of toad in him now and sometimes all you need is for the little guy to just get a bit bigger, ya know?
SSS Rank - Blaziken
There’s no competition when it comes to playing Hoenn for your’s truly. I picked Torchic in my first playthrough of Ruby and I did the same when I picked up Omega Ruby. The only reason this starter choice is on the low end of the top is because of Combusken. I don’t hate the design but I don’t love it. To be honest I prefer Mega Blaziken’s design to normal Blaziken, but Blaziken is love none the less~<3
Decidueye
It took me FOREVER to pronounce this little shits name! But despite that lol, I simply adore this entire line~! I was Team Rowlet the moment I saw the little guy~<3! It is just so insidiously adorable, and the anime has not helped (need to actually watch it, but thanks to screen shots/GIFs none the less lol)! I don’t care what anyone says I love Dartrix~! He’s so cute and sassy and oh my God his freaking out over his hair just... *bemoans*! I love it...! Decidueye was the other starter leak I fell in love with. It’s just so cool looking and it fits with the rest of the line~ The entire line is just cute and cool and Gen 7 really had some good starter designs~ But even something so cute and cool as the Rowlet line was still beaten in the end...
TYPHLOSION
Cyndaquil is my favorite starter of all times. Pokemon Silver to this day, and that includes awesome remakes, is my favorite Pokemon game! And when I initially got the game as a pre-teen up to when the games were ported to the virtual console Cyndaquil was always my choice for a starter in Johto. Sadly I had fallen out of Pokemon for a brief time so I missed out on Heart Gold & Soul Silver (ROMs don’t count dammit lol!)... Cyndaquil is just the cutest thing while Quilava is both cute and cool with Typhlosion just being such a BAMF! The entire line proves that you can be simplistic and still have a good design. All Cyndaquil did was get bigger and meaner and it works~! And that’s why it’s on the top~! ^v^

Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon launch tonorrow and today we talk about my number 2 favorite Pokemon ever. That distinction goes to Typhlosion. First off this is the only fire type starter who just stays as a fire type all the way through his evolution line. Also he has one of the best designs ever. HE'S A HONEY BADGER ON FIRE!! His special attack is 109 and his speed is base 100. He also has a great special attacking move pool to actually make use of those 2 great stats. It's also the Volcano pokemon and learns Eruption. I actually name my Typhlosion's Pompeii because he brings destruction to an entire team.
