#ty: polyship dynamic

got a few asks in the last days asking me what ships I liked in atla, and so let’s do a quick recap here of what ship I like and why. (no proshit stuff on my blog dw) reminder that I am a multishipper so yes you should see fan arts of all these knuckleheads at least 1 time on my blog if atla keeps inspiring me to draw.

let’s start with the canon ones !

kataang : when platonic very sweet, i just think that their development in season 3 is a bit wacky, but i enjoy them nevertheless, ESPECIALLY in fanfics (i spend my summer in 2022 reading kataang fics, that was my personal therapy for a bit lol). my only problem is that i have a lot of issues with some kataang fans, and that made me loose interest in the ship in 2020-2021. (before getting back on board) + I’m a platonic kataang stan

sukka : an all time favorite of mine ! absolutely love their development in the series. I hope to see more of them in the movies (if we get to see Suki !)

jetara : ooooh my, as a kid i hated that ship but in late teen years i started really liking the conflicting feelings such a ship holds. the few fics I’ve read about them made me sob like a baby lol

jinko : one word : adorable

non-canon ones :

zutara : that ship has been a fundamental part of my teenage years and even now it holds a special place in my heart. I read many good fics about them, and the special bond they share in the series still makes me emotional after all those years. I personally enjoy the ship platonically but also romantically. I just have a lot of issues with some zutarians.

zukka : a ship that I personally had never considered (and seriously idk why cuz they’re such a fun ship) before gaining back my atla hyperfixation in 2023. lots of very sweet fan arts and the fics !! absolutely adore them

jetko : another personal favourite of mine. I just adore the dynamic, the angst, and the gut wrenching thought that the canon gave us a doomed relationship between them from the beginning. the potential such a ship holds is what made me liked them in the first place.

taang : ooooh the sillies !!! I love them so much. they’re I think my favourite platonic ship. I usually read about them when I feel down. I just like how they’re complete each others and the special bond they share in canon.

sutara : probably my fav wlw ship in atla after mailee. they have so much potential, and the “badass duo” dynamic has always been a favorite of mine haha.

azulee : toxic doomed Yuri, but if we’re speaking seriously, I really think that their dynamic is very interesting. not my fav ship for ty Lee but it’s still a very cool ship if you ask me.

mailee : these two <3 idk i just love the grumpy x sunshine when it’s done right and for me they are the only ship in atla that can do that dynamic correctly.

azutara : another ship I discovered recently but damn is it interesting. the possibilities !! there is so much to explore here and i absolutely love that

zuki : as much as i despise the comics… that’s one good thing that came out of it !! they have a very interesting relationship and there’s something especially sweet with these two that i really like.

harutara : a ship i don’t see very often in the fandom but they’re cute !! like that’s legit why i like them. no drama, no hard feelings, just fluff

jetkotara : is it possible to have a more angst-concentrated ship ? I don’t think so. on a more lighthearted note, the idea of zuatara sharing the same ex makes me wheeze. also it’s might just be my fav polyship in atla

suki/sokka/zuko : do they have a ship name ?? idk but I love that dynamic. again it’s a rare treat in that fandom but I love it nonetheless.

I think that’s all. the only ship that I don’t really like is maiko, but that’s purely personal. I thought that their relationship was rocky at best and toxic at worst in the series. but absolutely no hate to the maiko shippers ! y’all have are some really skilled artists and I’m always in awe of your fan arts.

Hiii ! So I was thinking about Beth right? Well, imagine reader is originally from North Carolina, and moves to Atlanta (or wherever the hell the Farm was at lmao 💀). Reader and Beth end up in the same school together, both seniors (pre-apocalypse obvi lol).

They're super close friends and can both relate to eachother, especially with mental health struggles. Soon, they end up dating.

But before they get to graduate, the apocalypse begins. Rick finds the farm and all that. Carl ends up becoming best friends with Beth and reader (they're all aged up to 18, same age as eachother).

Time skip to the group making it to Alexandria... Beth is still alive ofc, and dating reader.

Beth, Carl, and reader end up exploring the woods, and stumble across a struggling Enid, who's trying to fight a walker off of her. Reader quickly saves Enid, and the four become super close, since they're all the same age.

Reader starts to develop feelings for Enid...but still loves Beth. So she gets an idea: polyship!

Enid, Beth, and reader end up dating eachother :)

Sorry if this is a lot, and apologies for any typos. I think the three would be an interesting dynamic, yk?

And I just know you'd be able to write this out wonderfully, and make it work!!

i’m gonna answer this really quickly, tysm for all of your wonderful requests all the time <3 i truly love writing them. with this one, i really love the idea, BUT i am not experienced with polyship.

i want to write this out since i know a lot of people are poly, but first i want to take my time researching it so i don’t mess anything up in the story.

so, i’m not saying i’m not writing this. it’ll just be a while until i start writing it so i can do proper research 🫶🏻. hope you understand! ty 🩷

3. Do you have any OT3/OT+ ships? What are your favorites?

Yes!! So many!! :D :D

Some current faves!:

BSD - Atsushi/Dazai/Kunikida; I talked about them a little yesterday but goshhhh, I just! Love them so much, Kunikida's all orderly and strict schedules and stuff but he cares so much, and Atsushi's a mess of self-worth issues but he's grown so much more confident working alongside them both and has such sweet scenes with them, and Dazai has got his own personal demons he's constantly dealing with, but I just really love the idea of him finding a reason to live with the rest of the ADA, with Atsushi and Kunikida, doing good and saving others, I just! Love them ;u;

KH - Axel/Roxas/Xion and Aqua/Terra/Ventus; both trios have been through so much omggg, so much heartbreak with the sea salt trio, Xion's death and her fading from their memories, and then Roxas losing all his memories of Axel and the Organization, with Axel left all alone to pick up the pieces, and then the wayfinder trio all got caught up in someone else's dark plots, Ven's heart fracturing and falling into a deep slumber, Terra losing his autonomy as his body was taken over by someone else, and Aqua sacrificing herself to save them both, aw man ;u; their eventual reunions with each other make me so emotional every time I watch them, they all care about each other so much, awww man ;u;

BnHA - Tsuyu/Bakugou/Kirishima/Uraraka; this one came from me liking all the individual pairing combinations between all of them and wanting to throw them together, haha! I just want to see all of them navigating a poly relationship, especially Bakugou! I think they'd all work well together and I just think they're sweet Cx <3

Honestly I could go on and on about all my favorite polyships, but I'll leave it at those!

4. What is/are your favorite trope(s)?

I'm a big fan of a lot of hurt/comfort and fluff tropes, as well as everything to do with enemies being forced to work together! :D

One character is hurt and the other helps tend to their wounds, a character sees another in danger and realizes how much they care for them and rushes to their side to defend them, characters helping others deal with the aftereffects of trauma, one character takes on/goes through a lot of pain (possibly for another person!) and another helps them through it, all that kinda stuff is my jam! Then also, characters laying on top of each other, unspoken but evident feelings, holding hands, brushing each other's hair, all the kisses, sharing an umbrella in the rain, one putting their jacket around another's shoulders when it's cold, just all the cute fluffy things warm my heart! 💛 And then, gimme enemies handcuffed together, or temporarily allying themselves against a common foe, or a hero coming across their wounded enemy and being unable to just leave them, all the enemies learning to tolerate each other and work together stuff!

Also, unrequited pining, especially if there's an age gap and it's the younger one pining (I'm very problematic :p)

6. Do you have a certain kind of ship you’re more attracted to?

In the past, I'd have answered enemies to lovers in a heartbeat! Now it's not so clear. I'm there if they have an interesting dynamic or there's lots of feelings or I just think they're cute; one thing is for certain though, I'm cursed to fall for the rarepairs, haha, every single time! C':

Also, you can't go wrong with dark, broody types + bright, sunshine types :D

7. Are most of your ships “pure” or “problematic”?

I feel in general, most are "pure," but a lot of the ones I've been really into recently def fall on the problematic scale. But even then, the way I tend to ship things is rather tame? Like, in hero/villain ships where there's a lot of potential for abuse, I tend to like them as temporarily allied equals, or in ships with age gaps I tend to prefer characters aged up to where they're both adults. There are some where they're abusive in canon or there's definitely potential for it, and I'm interested in exploring those dynamics, but I only have a handful of those.

I also feel like though, anything can be seen as problematic :p

8. Who is the most shippable person you can think of?

Hmmm. Kirishima from BnHA comes to mind, with his determination and energy and everything, you could probably make him work with just about anyone! :D

Sokka is number one. Sokka’s ships are gr10, they had an incredibly interesting moment that MIGHT have awaken some stuff in 12yo me when I first saw it xDD, and I genuinely think they could have a very interesting dynamic.

-Alice is typically the buffer between Edgar’s teasing toward Luka. She will stand up for him or turn the brunt of the teasing back to Edgar. 

-Luka appreciates her standing up for him, but he doesn’t need it. He will randomly dish out his own teasing every once in a while, stopping both Alice and Edgar in their tracks.

-Edgar is the boyfriend that shows a lot of PDA while out and about in the Central Quarter. Luka is the one that lets his walls down in private behind closed doors.

-Edgar is the talker out of the three. He typically leads the conversations and Alice chimes in here and there. Luka enjoys being apart of it all and having questions asked to direct him. Their group dynamic changes from time to time, based on how talkative Luka feels like being that day.

-The thrupple shares one bed most nights. Luka’s favorite position is when Alice sleeps on his chest, and Edgar is right behind her with his arm around her waist.

-Edgar loves to spoon her. Holding her tight in his arm while keeping one hand on Luka. It makes him smile at how much smaller she is than him.

-The men share inside jokes from their school days, and overtime Alice picks up on them. However, there are a few weird ones that, no matter how many times they try to explain it, she just doesn’t get.

-Luka isn’t a huge fan of going out on the town for dates. He prefers staying in and having a helper cook with him. It’s more intimate and less socially draining. He’s able to make a plethora of food and dessert catered to their current whims. 

-Edgar prefers to go out and take Alice to all the sweet shops around town. Hitting every bakery and candy store, a new establishment every date night.

-They do have dates all together more often than not. And make compromises for each other to make sure everyone enjoys it. Edgar's favorite part is discussing the compromise, and Luka’s favorite is when they all agree on something.

Explicit segment~

-Luka dreams of eating her out. Any time they get hot and heavy, that's the first place he goes, right to her core to taste her. Her moans might be his second favorite thing, other than her taste. WHAT  IS  YOUR  OTP  FOR  YOUR  CHARACTER ? It’s not exactly a secret that camerashipping (Miles/Waylon) is one of my favorite ships to play out. It hasn’t always been smooth sailing and they’re not exactly in a relationship right now, but the ship I’ve built with @aloneandlosing is one of my oldest and most favorite ships on this blog. But I’ve had so many good ones!!! Miles/Salome ( @jatamansi) has become a major OTP in the last year or so and I adore it as well.

WHAT  ARE  YOU  WILLING  TO  WRITE  WHEN  IT  COMES  TO  SHIPPING ? I like playing around with different dynamics, and not every ship has to be 100% healthy 100% of the time. I like when ships break apart and either come back together or don’t recover. I like enemies to friends to lovers and a lot of variations in between. That being said, I won’t write ships with a blatantly abusive dynamic -- even in terms of enemies to lovers, there’s a difference between characters with opposing viewpoints who find common ground and straight up villainous abuse that turns romantic (i.e. stuff like w//eddie lol). I love playing around with the former and I will not touch the latter. I get that other people write it and I don’t want to get into the fiction vs reality debate, it’s just not something I personally enjoy writing. That doesn’t mean that I won’t write with abusive characters, but I’m not gonna sugar coat a relationship built on unhealthy animosity into something positive. 

HOW  LARGE  DOES  THE  AGE  GAP  HAVE  TO  BE  TO  MAKE  IT   UNCOMFORTABLE ? I will absolutely never ship with characters who are under 18, and based on the fact that Miles is usually early to mid 30s in most of his verses, I probably won’t ship with any characters who are under 21. Even then, I can’t see Miles going for people much younger than 25 or so. I don’t have a problem with age gaps to an extent, but it really depends on context and where the characters are at in their lives. I think age gaps tend to matter less as people get older, but even though “adults” are technically 18+, that early 20s range is still very iffy to me. 

ARE  YOU  SELECTIVE  WHEN  SHIPPING ? Yes! A lot of times I’ll make jokes about ships (and Miles himself often passes suggestive comments), but it takes a lot for me to go from fleeting ideas to actual ship territory. I generally prefer being friendly with a mun before I start seriously shipping muses, to be honest.

HOW  FAR  DO  STEAMY  MOMENTS  HAVE  TO  GO  BEFORE  THEY  ARE  CONSIDERED  NS/FW ? Generally, once clothes start coming off it’s NSFW. I don’t usually put kissing / making out / over-the-clothes handsiness under a cut, but anything more than that gets a Read More. I’m probably a little more lax on this blog than on others, though, just because I’m pretty up front about it being 18+ only.

WHO  ARE  OTHER  CHARACTERS  YOU  SHIP  YOUR  CHARACTER  WITH ? I do have a little ship list on my tags page! @mslangermann has given me a lovely and unexpected Lynn/Miles pairing, and of course Miles has his classy demon over at @demonbitch. I like the idea of a couple different ships right now but I’m not really pursuing anything new at the moment, but I’m beyond happy with the ships I’ve established <3 

DOES  ONE  HAVE  TO  ASK  TO  SHIP  WITH  YOU ? Not really? I’m honestly kinda off-put by people asking if we can ship, because my preference is to let things progress naturally. I’ve never had much luck with ships that were intended to be ships because they tend to feel forced, after a while. I like letting the relationship build organically, and most of the time the conversation turns more towards “uh oh do you also ship this?” as opposed to “hey can we ship?”

HOW  OFTEN  DO  YOU  LIKE  TO  SHIP ? Totally depends. I established most of my ships here fairly early on (within the first year or so of the blog) and I’ve slowed down quite a bit. But there’s no hard or fast rule, for me. It just happens as it happens.

ARE  YOU  SHIP  OBSESSED  OR  SHIP  MORE-OR-LESS ? Ship more-or-less, I suppose. Shipping isn’t my primary focus on the blog, and I don’t go into interactions or mutual followings with the first thought on my mind being ship potential. Again, if it happens, it happens. If not, there’s so much else to write!

ARE  YOU  MULTISHIP ? Yup. 

WHAT  IS  YOUR  FAVOURITE  SHIP  IN  YOUR  CURRENT  FANDOM ? Like I said, I’m a sucker for camerashipping. I also really really really love the OT3 potential for Miles/Waylon/Lisa, and I’m sad that I’ve never been able to explore that here. Polyshipping can be a lot of fun, and I think there’s so much room for exploration with those three. I’ve read just about all the fic and content that the fandom has put out for that OT3 and I wish there was more of it.

FINALLY, HOW  DOES  ONE  SHIP  WITH  YOU ? Just... write a muse that Miles likes, I guess? lol there’s no one rule or one way to get a ship with me. You kinda just have to be patient and let things progress, and understand that I might not want to ship at the same rate that you do. I’m casual about a lot of things with rp, but I like realism in my writing. I like feeling that the relationship has built up into a full-blown ship, so it’s not something I’m just gonna jump in to.
