Having spent so much time surrounded by masculinity, Katara’s more than desperate for some ‘girl time’. Ty Lee is a breath of fresh air. She’s already excitedly running her fingers through her friend’s hair in preparation for braiding. 

“Sure!” she says, enthusiastically, as she starts to work. “Everything I know is all-natural. Growing up in the South Pole, you had to be creative. Nature provides a lot more for us than just food. Like, raw honey? Great as a face mask. Apply a tablespoon of it to your face once a week for five to ten minutes, warming it between your fingertips first, then rinse it off with warm water and pat dry; you’ll glow like nothing else. Eggs and bananas are good for adding a little shine to your hair, too. If you mix one egg and one mashed-up banana into a paste and leave it in your hair for ten to thirty minutes before washing it out, you’ll look amazing.”

Of course, she doesn’t have any of these things back home, but she’d altered her methods to accommodate the many different places her group had stayed in during the war. “If you cut an orange in half, they’re good for exfoliating the rough patches of skin on your elbows and knees. Moisturize your nails by soaking them in olive oil for five minutes and they’ll look stunning. Ooh, and blackheads? Put a few drops of that raw honey on a lemon wedge and leave it on for five minutes, then wash it off with cold water. It’ll make your skin sensitive, though, so you’d wanna do it at night.”

Katara’s head tilts to the side with an eager smile. “What about you? Any secrets to share?”
