"When The Carnations Bloom" Jing Yuan x GN!Reader
AN: Here's the Arbiter General~ Felt kinda rushed at the end, but I'm more or less happy with how this came out! Once again likes and reblogs are appreciated! Don't be shy to leave a comment down below as well! <3 Reader is Gender Neutral!
Wordcount: 1.9K+ words~
Prompt: Reader has Hanahaki and hides it from everyone. (Except for Bailu.)
TW: Major character death (Reader), slight descriptions of blood.
Please read at your own risk!
More below the cut~
You were in the bathroom, throwing up those damned flowers again. They came up and out of your throat quickly and painfully, as you emptied out whatever you could. Tired, you leaned against the wall and glanced down at the bloodied and saliva-covered red carnations in your sink. Crinkling your nose up in disgust, you tried to regulate your ragged breathing by taking deep breaths. It proved to be difficult, but little by little, you calmed your erratic pulse. And little by little, the urge to break out into violent coughs ceased. Moving to get back into bed, you groaned softly as a knock sounded at the door. Vowing to murder whomever showed at your door, you wearily trudged over.
“(Name)! General is slacking off again!” A boyish voice shouted from the other side, drawing a long sigh from you. Ah, it was Yanqing.
Begrudgingly, the door swung open and you scowled slightly at the thought of having to drag Jing Yuan back to the Seat of Divine Foresight. Yanqing stood there, looking just as annoyed as you did, and the two of you shared a knowing look. The general was once again skipping out on paperwork. Stepping out in whatever you were wearing currently, you didn't care for the strange looks you garnered from your neighbors.
“Again?” You grumbled this softly, trying to ignore the flowers that started to tickle the back of your throat, just from the thought of Jing Yuan. Ah, how could you have fallen for someone so frustrating, yet so handsome?
“Again. I couldn't think of anyone to get him to do his work but you.” Yanqing said this apologetically but started to lead you away to where the general slumbered. The entire way, you grumbled about how you should start charging Jing Yuan. You were acting as his very own human alarm, after all.
The arduous journey led you straight to a certain garden. And lo and behold, the snow haired man slept soundly under an arbor of wisteria and an assortment of other flowers. You fought down the flowers that clogged your throat as your eyes found his form. Letting out a strained grunt, you stalked over to Jing Yuan, and prepared to smack him upside the head. Yanqing watched on curiously. He had seen this spectacle several times, but you seemed… Tired, to him. Less eager to smack the general. Though as soon as his thoughts started to wander, a resounding smack of skin on skin drew his light topaz colored eyes to the source.
Jing Yuan rubbed the back of his head, a relaxed and even amused smile on his face as he regarded you. Meanwhile, you frowned at him disapprovingly. It looked like a lion being scolded by a very unhappy sparrow. It was comical to any passerby, if it weren't for said lion being the General of the Xianzhou Luofu.
“Jing Yuan, how many times are you going to slack off?” You scolded him, expression softening. Ah, you could never stay mad at him. Those sincere honey eyes of his made you weak to your knees. Keeping the flower petals at bay, you simply crossed your arms and looked at him expectantly.
“Well my dear (Name)... If I didn't slack off, I wouldn't get a chance to see you everyday.” His deep voice said this with velvety smoothness as he chuckled and smiled at you fondly. “You know how boring it is to do paperwork everyday. What if I want to see my favorite-”
You flicked his forehead and sighed through your nose. His words caused the roots of the flowers in your lungs to tighten and contract. It hurt to hear those words from him. You almost wished he would stop saying such things. And to stop looking at you with such softness. Every action and look from the cloud-haired man fueled the slow agony you suffered.
“Seat of Foresight. Now.” You crossed your arm tighter as he sighed heavily and stood.
“Anything for you, little sparrow.”
The weeks passed on uneventfully, and your routine stayed the same. You coughed up those dreaded carnations, rouge color matching that of your blood. Then tiredly, you would drag Jing Yuan back to his office to fulfill his duties before going about your own day. It was troublesome at times, but it was comfortable. Admittedly, you enjoyed what little time you had with the general. After you retired from the frontlines, you gradually saw Jing Yuan less and less. This was one of the few ways you could see him still, without seeming a bother.
More weeks passed, and you seemed to grow weaker and weaker as the deep red carnations started to bloom. And yet, you couldn't bring yourself to tell anyone of your predicament. Of your beautifully cruel disease, as it destroyed you quietly. The flowers came heavily now, blooming delicately in full.
One fairy night in summer, a knock on the door sounded softly. You weren't surprised. In fact, you had expected this to happen. You see, as your condition worsened, you distanced yourself. No longer, did you go to rouse the general from his slumber. No longer did you go to the Seat of Divine Foresight at the request of Jing Yuan, only to end up playing a game of starchess with him. Honestly, you had expected him to come sooner. You opened your front door, revealing the tall man. His golden eyes looked down at you, screaming their worry despite the calm smile on his face.
“Jing Yuan.” You spoke softly, acknowledging him.
“Little Sparrow.” He acknowledged you back, dipping his head toward you.
A silence ensued as you both stood there, gazing at one another. The sun had started to die in its grave in the sky, giving way to a plum sunset. And yet, nothing was said. Eventually, when the plum shades faded into inky indigo, Jing Yuan spoke. His tone was calm, with undertones of hope.
“Will you be there to scold me tomorrow?” It was a silly question that made laughter bubble up in your throat. The petals accompanied it, however. Fighting them back, you managed to crack a smile at the general.
“I'll be there.” His smile widened and his eyes melted into pools of honey, uncontrollably fond.
“Then I shall look forward to tomorrow. Until then, Little Sparrow.”
You sobbed softly to yourself that night as the stars made their nightly travel across the dark expanses of space.
Lady Bailu frowned at you deeply, anger and sorrow pooling in her eyes. Looking ready to cry, she turned away and sniffled violently. The Vidyadhara healer had just examined your condition, and her conclusion was not a favorable one. Fists clenched, she turned back to you.
“You're going to die very soon, (Name). If you don't do something. The carnations are in full bloom.. At this rate you'll suffocate on them and-.” The tears started to slide down her cheeks as she glared up at you. Your only response was a sorrowful smile.
“I'm a coward, Lady Bailu. I could never burden Jing Yuan.” You sighed.
“Then let me treat them. Let me get rid of them for you-” You cut her off, shaking your head gently.
“And lose the ability to love? To be considered alive?” Bailu could not fight against you. Instead, Bailu sobbed into your shoulder, gripping you tightly as you bent down and gently hugged her small, quivering form. You would miss her. Miss Yanqing. Aeons, you'd even miss Fu Xuan and her nagging. And Jing Yuan and his lazing about.
The following days, you spent packing your things into boxes and labeled them with names of the ones you wanted them to go to. Your precious sword collection would go to Yanqing of course. Qingque got your prized mahjong board made from the finest jade. And Jing Yuan received the first tea set you ever got. It had been a gift from the man himself. A retirement gift, as he would have put it. You knew he'd take good care of it. Saying goodbye to these things were bittersweet. But, you couldn't bring yourself to bear your soul to Jing Yuan. And you couldn't undergo Bailu’s treatment to rid yourself of these carnations in your lungs. All living things were built to love. Platonically or not. If you lost that feeling, could you even consider yourself ‘alive’, anymore? You sighed softly as you finished the last of the box. You were certain that they would be treasured and treated well. The last thing to do, was to pen the letters.
News of your death spread through the Xianzhou Luofu like wildfire. Many were in disbelief, while some mourned for you. Jing Yuan had been shocked by this, not wanting to believe it. His footsteps echoed on the pavement of your home’s walkway. No, he needed to see you. He needed to put the worries and fears in his mind to rest. You couldn't die. You were General (Name) (Last name), the Blade Singer. The one who slayed thousands of abhorrentions of abundance. There couldn't be a possibility you had died.
The air of your home was already going stale without your presence. Though it also carried the faintest wisps of your scent. Jing Yuan’s chest tightened with pain as he stared at the boxes with names. At the letters. At you, so still in your bed. Your eyes were shut peacefully as red carnations surrounded you, in full bloom. One could almost mistake you as simply sleeping. Bailu was at your side, sobbing, along with a Yanqing who clung onto your hand, head bowed as hot tears slid down his face and hit the floor with a dull thunk.
Your funeral was one lush with flowers, and held on a day as sunny as always. The summer fairy lights seemed to gather around your starskiff, adorned with different blooms, to send you off. A silent farewell. Jing Yuan watched with unsteady honey eyes. He had lost so much already. To the point where he assumed that losing would no longer hurt him. Alas, he had been wrong. Losing you, brought an indescribable hurt to him. Chest clenching painfully, Jing Yuan excused himself soon after your funeral.
Wandering aimlessly, the General found his feet taking him to the garden you had both met in when you were young. He had fallen asleep, and you were running away from your mentor. A wistful smile found its way onto Jing Yuan’s face before he slipped a letter out of his pocket. In your handwriting, his name was penned. Jing Yuan couldn't bring himself to open it before, scared that if he acknowledged your passing, you would truly disappear from this world. But now, steeped in an indigo peace, he found the courage to open the neatly sealed envelope.
It carried your scent and your presence in every line. Every brush stroke.
To you, who I loved;
This journey has been a strange blessing and curse. Though, I would rather not have had it at all. Unfortunately, it seems unrequited love has been my undoing. I'm sure Lady Bailu has filled you in on everything… And I would like to apologize for being such a coward.
I loved you, but I couldn't bring myself to say it. Perhaps it was my own fears that stopped me. I didn't want to burden you with my feelings. But I think most importantly, I didn't want to relearn the pain of losing someone I loved. We've lost so much, Yuan. I couldn't bear to lose you too. It was my own shortcoming. And it may be selfish and too late to say now, but...
I love you, Jing Yuan.
-(Name) (Last name)
Jing Yuan traced your penmanship with his fingertips. And a single hyacinth flower fluttered from his lips.

Tumblr media
【Note: Hi there! I wrote this quickly on a school night, that being said, I apologize in advance for any mistakes. (。•́︿•̀。) Also, Yanqing is a minor, potentially between 14 and 16 years old, so if you are an adult, please refrain from reading this. I can't control what you do, but take it into consideration. Please request if you have any suggestions, I'm open to all kinds of ideas!】
【Pairings: Yanqing x GN!Reader】
【CW: None! All fluff】
You had outstanding swordsmanship skills, good technique, and natural talent. It didn't take long for the higher-ups to notice you and eventually give you the opportunity to train with none other than Yanqing, one of the best swordsmen of the Luofu Cloud Knights.
The lieutenant in question was an energetic young boy with a passion for swords. What was even more intriguing about him was how competitive he could get and how easy it was to tease him.
"I challenge you to a sparring match... but! We have to do it with our eyes closed!" You looked him in the eyes and struck a foolish pose with confidence.
"You know I wouldn't say no to a duel, but is the "eyes closed" rule really necessary?" he asked, his head cocked to the side.
"Are you... perhaps... afraid of losing to me?" Your mouth curled into a grin.
Without further ado, he was already drawing his sword and straightening his back, even more determined to win.
This rivalry between the two of you was always lighthearted. Some "arguments" ended up with you two peacefully sitting next to one another after a vigorous fencing session rather than bickering nonstop like an "old married couple," according to someone's Jing Yuan's assumption.
Spending almost all of your time together could only strengthen your unusual bond. Teasing remarks were as strong and consistent as ever, but there was also praise, a few pats on the back, and even a hug. Though that became awkward for both of you once you realized what you were doing, deep down, you and Yanqing enjoyed it. Not that you'd ever admit to liking an embrace from him, but the flush on your cheeks spoke louder than words.
The amount of time you spent together didn't go unnoticed by the townspeople, and everyone you'd ask said you were like two peas in a pod, always together as if joined at the hip.
At some point, you began to notice things that you weren't aware of before, such as the way Yanqing's hair bounces with each sword strike, the way his eyes light up whenever he has the chance to show off his collection of swords, and the fact that he constantly seems to be smiling at people when he is not on duty.
You could even say he looked... cute at times. The thought itself made you tremble and rethink your entire existence, yet you couldn't deny that you didn't despise him.
Yanqing had additionally been acting strangely; you would catch him staring at you, and he would blush, hurriedly looking away when you called him out on it.
It made you feel warm on the inside, as though a group of butterflies tickled your insides with their tiny wings.
These changes in your perception of Yanqing were difficult for you to fully understand. But it was normal to want to hold your rival's hand all the time...
Right?

You were quietly organising the papers that Yukong had given you, meticulously placing them in their correct positions and categories. The task at hand was quite substantial, and an hour had already passed since you began. When Yukong offered her assistance, you declined, assuming she had other matters to attend to. And now, you found yourself with two stacks of papers, patiently waiting to be sorted.
As you were in the midst of placing papers on the bookshelves, you suddenly felt the sensation of two strong arms encircling your waist. Your body tensed, and you prepared to draw your weapon, but before you could react, the man swiftly grasped your hands, preventing any immediate action. He leaned in, planting a kiss on your neck, further surprising you.
“Relax, darling, it’s just me,” Blade reassured you, continuing to shower your neck and ear with a few more affectionate pecks. Gradually, you allowed yourself to relax and released a sigh. “Ren, can't you see I'm busy?” you asked, mildly exasperated.
“Hmm? Can’t you give your dear lover some attention? It’s not often that I get free time from Elio, you know?” Blade teased, his voice laced with playful affection.
“I could, but I still have a few stacks of papers to organise. Now, will you please be patient and excuse me?” you sighed, gently pulling Blade’s arms off your waist. Determined, you walked back towards the stacks of paper, ready to continue your task.
Blade let out a disappointed sigh and decided to settle himself on one of the comfortable couches in the room, sulking. After just a few minutes had passed, Blade couldn't resist asking, “Are you done yet?” You responded with a straightforward, “No.”
After thirty minutes of Blade amusing himself with the trinkets he found in the room, Jing Yuan entered through the door, observing Blade sulking and noticing that you were still engrossed in your work. Realising the situation at hand, Jing Yuan decided to intervene, recognizing that you could use some rest, especially since there was still only one stack of papers left that could probably be finished tomorrow.
Sweetheart,” Jing Yuan called out to you, and you responded with a noncommittal hum while your hands continued to sort through the documents. “Don’t you want to take a break for a bit?” he inquired. This question caught the attention of sulking Blade, who perked up, curious to hear your response. Once again, you firmly replied, “No.”
Both men exchanged glances, understanding the stubborn determination in your response. Blade, with a resigned expression, patted the seat beside him, silently indicating that they should just wait. And so, there they were, two formidable men sulking, patiently waiting for their partner to finish the task at hand.
Jing Yuan and Blade wore expressions of sadness on their faces, the usual cheerful and playful smiles replaced by a sense of disappointment.
After another 30 minutes had passed, you finally stretched your arms, relieved to have completed the daunting task. The Stellaron Hunter awakened the dozing general, pointing towards their exhausted partner. Jing Yuan quickly sprung into action, swiftly lifting you in a bridal carry, with Blade closely following behind. They hurriedly made their way home, eager to shower you with the love and attention you deserved.
“H-Hey! Slow down!” you exclaimed, tightly holding onto Jing Yuan's form. However, Blade swiftly interjected, saying, “Nope, you've been ignoring us for a whole hour.”
Upon arriving home, they wasted no time and whisked you away to your shared bedroom. Jing Yuan gently laid you down on the bed, and without hesitation, he leaned in, capturing your lips in a passionate kiss. You let out a noise of surprise before eagerly responding, holding onto his biceps. Meanwhile, Blade positioned himself on the other side of you, his hand stroking your hip with a tender touch, further adding to the affectionate atmosphere in the room.
After parting from the kiss with Jing Yuan, Blade wasted no time in turning your face towards him, initiating a passionate kiss of his own. His kiss was filled with intensity, surpassing the previous one with Jing Yuan. In a sudden playful gesture, Blade playfully pinched your waist, causing you to yelp in surprise. He used it to his advantage to put his tongue into your mouth, making you let out noises of pleasure.
Jing Yuan’s hand went up your shirt, stroking your warm skin. Overwhelmed by the sensations Blade and Jing Yuan’s actions are evoking, you find yourself becoming breathless. The combination of Blade’s passionate kisses, Jing Yuan's playful touches, and the intensity of the moment leaves you gasping for air, consumed by the desire and pleasure that courses through your body.
Blade broke apart from the kiss, his lips now trailing along your neck, leaving a trail of purple red marks. As he focused his attention on your neck, you gasped for air, feeling a mix of pleasure and anticipation coursing through your body. Meanwhile, Jing Yuan turned to Blade and asked, “Ren, why don’t we teach our sweetheart a lesson?” Blade's eyes sparkled with mischief as he replied, “Hmm, yes, you’re going to be a good doll for us, right darling?”
You gulped nervously, aware that indulging in their desires would likely leave you not being able to walk the next day. You began to consider how you would explain your absence to Yukong, already planning to inform her that you wouldn't be able to work tomorrow. However, before the strain of your thoughts consumes you, Blade interrupts by placing his fingers on your chin, lifting it, causing your gaze to meet his.
“Focus on us, doll.” Blade says, “We have a long night ahead of us.” Jing Yuan continued, before the three of you passionately made love for the rest of the night.
Tumblr media
You woke up with a slight ache in your abdomen, sandwiched between your two lovers. As you slowly reached for your phone on the nightstand, you sent a text to Yukong, explaining that you wouldn't be able to go to work today due to engaging in certain activities last night. With a mix of satisfaction and anticipation, you settled back into the warmth and comfort of the bed, embracing the aftermath of the passionate night spent with your beloved partners.

Tumblr media
It’s already past midnight, when you hear how someone enters the Estate, lightning up the long hallway. You rise from the sofa, book abandoned, while you pull the light blanket over your shoulders.
Your naked feet leave no sound as you walk towards the light, towards the man who finally came home. He greets you with a soft but tired smile, uniform still pristine and the massive coat protecting the white cloth from any dirt.
“General,” you greet him with a teasing smile, leaning on the doorway while you watch how he slips out of his black boots, made out of the finest leather— as a man of his rank deserves.
“Wife,” he greets you back, the grumbling voice making you pleasantly shudder. He smirks at your reaction, of course he does, eyes lightening up and brightening the whole face of this beautiful man. The man who is yours, General Jing Yuan, your husband returning to your waiting arms.
“Let me,” you ask, stepping near to take off his heavy coat, rimmed with black fur and decorating stitches on the back. Once you’ve taken it from his shoulders, his uniform is revealed to you, the very uniform you’ve clothed him in when he left you to go to war.
All his badges and cords are on their right place, setting an example of what a commander should look like, and yet he doesn’t utter a single word of complaint when you gesture him to follow you to your bedroom, where you would remove them piece by piece.
His uniform is his armor, shielding his mind and heart from death and misery, and once he’s finally home, he can shed said armor, revealing vulnerable skin and muscle. He only does this at home, the safest place he knows, because you’re here, waiting for him to return.
With keen eyes he follows how you move around in the bedroom, carry over the coffer which usually holds all of his military badges and start to take them off with the utmost care. You do your duty silently but gladly, your heart filled with happiness now that your husband is finally back home. And Jing Yuan watches you with a smile on his face, his tensing shoulders slowly slacking and lowering the longer you’re near him.
The soft smell of roses clings onto your hair, freshly washed and still a bit damp. Your skin seems to glow beneath the creams and serums you always put on, while the rest of your body is hidden behind your nightgown and the thin blanket that still clings onto your shoulders.
You just pinned the last badge in the cushion of the coffer, when suddenly Jing Yuan takes your face in his hands, still in the fiery red gloves, to draw you close. Your breath hitches and you have to climb on his lap, hold yourself on his strong arms to find your balance. He doesn’t care, nuzzling you and peppering you with featherlight kisses, murmuring how much he missed you.
“My sweet, beautiful rose,” he murmurs close to your right ear, immediately dipping his head to claim your neck with his lips, teeth gently scraping over your skin while you shudder in his arms.
“Do you know how much I love you?,” Jing Yuan asks you, only to press his lips onto yours, gentle and sweet, while pulling you closer. You try to protest, still mindful of what he wears— you didn’t want to have to wash his uniform simply because the two of you were not careful enough.
“Jing Yuan,” you whisper against his lips, eyes already lidded while you lean onto his touch. “Your uniform–,” you try, only for him to shush you with a forceful kiss. It makes your mind spin, to suddenly have him so close again, so close and so much of him, his scent and his body enclosing yours.
“As if my uniform is more important to you than your husband,” he teases you, fully knowing how you would flush at the needled teasing, eyes wide and oh so pleading. “Don’t mind me, dear, I shall help you to take my uniform off. Four hands are faster than two.”
And so you slid from his lap, lips red and hands trembling when you stand again, your husband following your action. A sly smirk is on his face when you start to remove the golden cords, start to unclasp his decorative belt, as well his sword belt. With a shaky exhale you also open his garter belt, his thigh muscles hard beneath your warm hands— oh how you wanted to ravish him, tumble into the marriage bed as you’ve done many times. You wanted to kiss and mark him, cling onto him while ruining his oh so perfect hair, all while he would pound into you and make you scream—
A chuckle rips you out of your thoughts and you immediately duck your head, but it has no use. Jing Yuan can only guess what filthy thoughts just crossed your mind and by that growing tent in his white pants, he approves. Your fingers skim over it, light and teasing, and the way he buckles his hips closer to you— a gasp leaves your mouth when he lifts you suddenly and almost throws you on the bed, patience running thin the way he shrugs off his pants, no longer caring for his uniform.
The upper part of the pristine white clothing follows, the metal, worked into the cloth, clanking on the floor the moment he drops it. He kneels on the bed, his thigh muscles clenching and it leaves you thirsty. The way he moves, almost prowles, dangerous and seductive, a predator on his hunt.
His undershirt follows, you’re pretty sure there is some ripping but you no longer focus on the clothes— no, now you only focus on him, muscles taunt, eyes glinting, his whole focus on you.
Almost subconsciously you crawl to your usual place, in the middle of the giant bed, amidst a massive amount of pillows. You start to shrug off your nightgown, the thin blanket long forgotten on the floor, while Jing Yuan frees himself of his last restrictions. He helps you in the end, truly ripping the sheer cloth of your nightgown, making you shudder beneath him.
“Hello, wife,” he greets you, once you're naked just as he is, his breath brushing over your stomach up towards your breasts, a breathless moan escaping your lips when his hands follow. You mumble a greeting back, feeling shy thanks to his intense stare, but he doesn’t mind.
Not when you’re here, beneath him, naked and ready to be ravished.
Oh, you are, readily spreading your legs, parting them to give way to him. You’re already wet for him, folds glistening as he brushes his fingers against your clit. Leaning back, you watch how Jing Yuan continues, slowly dipping the tip of his finger in your cunt, leaving you wanting. He knows what you want, try to urge him closer, but he only hums and leans his head on your thigh. With unblinking eyes he stares at you, the intense gaze making you blush.
“You’re so beautiful, do you know that? Beautiful and mine,” he murmurs and then presses a kiss on your skin, hands cupping the back of your knees. Peppering more kisses on your skin, closer and closer—
And when he finally licks a board stripe between your legs, you try to hold back the moan, only to fail when he gently sucks at your clit.
With your head thrown back and hands in his hair, Jing Yuan ravishes you, slurping you up while keeping your legs wide open. He has always been talented with his tongue, but today you’re especially sensitive, having been separated for far too long. It makes you cum faster than you wished, the orgasm knocking the air out of your lungs and your thighs shudder.
His kiss brings you back to your senses, his warm body shielding yours, hands wandering and circling across your skin. Long ago you’ve lost your embarrassment when he kisses you with that tangy taste on his lips, only moaning when he pries your own open with his tongue. A choked whine leaves your lips when two of his fingers finally slip into you, preparing you for his cock.
And when he finally does, hips draw to yours, filling you, making you choke on nothing, you cry out. Tears gather in your eyes, overwhelmed with Jing Yuan being finally in you again, overwhelmed with all the attention and loves he gives you— simply overwhelmed.
Clinging onto him, you gasp and moan, scream his name, while his hips work against yours, his strong thighs holding his body up and preventing you from being crushed. Being in his embrace fulfills you, makes your daydreams come true once again, and you let him know.
The moans, the gasps, the screams, it makes Jing Yuan shudder in your arms, greedy lips taking any skin you’re offering, fingertips leaving traces, everything to mark you as his. His wife, his love, his rose, you’re his.
And he’s yours, your husband and general, the man you love and how you love him.
You love him so much that you don’t complain when he simply sags against you, completely spent when he cums inside you, while your cunt tightens around his cock. You only grumble a bit, mind still hazy with another incredible orgasm he just gave you.
But he rolls off you, not minding the mess he made out of the sheets and you, wrapping his arms around your warm body and pulling you close. You snuggle against him, head on his chest, heart and mind relieved that he’s finally home again.

Do you have any Yanli-centric AUs or headcanons?
(Also what’s he sleeping on in the baby picture?)
OOOH I love this question! Also that was a borisin. It was part of a larger drawing I wanted to make of Yanqing with a bunch of other denizens of Abundance, but as you can see, It's been abandoned </3
Currently, I only have one au that focuses on yanli, and that's chimera!Yunli, but I absolutely have a ton of Yanli hcs. I would include both, but the post would be incredibly long if I did, so here's a list of my current hcs from memory(very long list ahead):
Tumblr media
Yunli makes stealing Yanqing's swords into a habit. The first few times it was just to get a rise out of him or to instigate a fight, but soon enough, it became more an excuse to hang out with him
The first time Yunli stole a sword to trick Yanqing into hanging out with her, Yanqing was entirely confused and suspicious for the entire definitely-not-a-date
Yanqing himself slowly stops getting upset about these thefts and begins looking forward to an out-of-the-blue spar or hangout
Speaking of Yanqing's swords, Yanzhou loves Yunli, and even his misbehaving ice sabres are fond of her
Sometimes the swords will tell Yunli something embarrassing about Yanqing, or things he's said about her in private, and Yanqing will freak out because she won't tell him what they told her
Occasionally, they won't say anything at all. Yunli is just teasing
Further into their relationship, when the two are actually getting closer, his sabres will sometimes sabotage Yanqing's attempts to woo Yunli or act cool around her, usually by making him trip or making him look like a fool in spars
Yanqing finds these events humiliating. Yunli finds them funny and endearing.
When Yanqing is talking, Yunli will sometimes eat especially loud to annoy or tick him off. She always does this when he's speaking to other Cloud Knights
Yanqing's dynamic with Yunli reminds Jing Yuan a lot of himself and Yingxing when they were younger, with the latter's pride and Jing Yuan's own youthful ambitions
Yanqing and Yunli are both trans, afab and amab respectively
They're also both on the autism spectrum. Obviously their shared hyperfixations are swords
Yanqing is terrible at talking to girls, or anyone he has a crush on really
Yunli fell first, Yanqing fell harder
Yunli fell for Yanqing the moment he subdued Hoolay
It takes years for Yanqing to realize he's in love, while it takes Yunli a matter of months
Jing Yuan knew the whole time
So did Huaiyan
When Yunli went back home to the Zhuming, she snuck one of Yanqing's swords with her. Call it payback
Yunli is the cat, Yanqing is the golden retriever
At one point, Yunli was taller than Yanqing and she held it over his head constantly. As you'd expect, Yanqing hits a growth spurt and he always brings up this fact during arguments (especially if he lives long enough to grow into Ma Feima's size)
Their first kiss was initiated by Yanqing completely on the cuff during an argument or spar. He became so embarrassed that he ran off and couldn't face her for days
When they're grown up, they become very well known rivals and people often make bets on who's stronger/who would win in a fight
They often visit each other on their respective ships, and this increases upon reaching adulthood where their relationship has developed and they no longer require chaperones
They retain their rivalry at this age, however there's a subtle shift from childhood spats to a more mature but still petty dynamic that screams old married couple
Much of this bickering evolves from proving to the other that they themselves are the best, to who can pay the tab at lunch, which kind of food the birds would prefer and which obscure historical figure was cooler
They still never truly grow out of that more childish nature. They'll always be rivals at heart
They would also die for each other. Like, even currently (2.5 going on 2.6) they would put their lives on the line if it meant keeping the other alive
2.4 yanli would still save the other's life, but it would eventually just be used as another thing to hold over the other's head, and any real concern would be short-lived
I'm confident that if one of them acted recklessly in a fight, or hid an injury or whatever, the other would drop everything to take care of them, all the while scolding them for how stupid the other was. Super cliche and, at this point, cheesy, but I think it's in character. Especially on Yunli's end. She would tear poor Yanqing a new one
Additionally, that one classic Princess Mononoke scene? That's Yanli coded. Prove me wrong
Their theme song is "Anything You Can Do" from Annie Get Your Gun
My thesis: heterosexual haikaveh
Aaaand that's everything lol. Feel free to add to this with your own hcs if you feel inclined <3

daz is back at it again with another jingluo au bc THEY WONT FUCKING LEAVE ME ALONE
so hear me out, a Dangerously Yours (the radio show AND MORE SPECIFICALLY THE MASQUERADE EP) jingluo au with jing yuan as rudolph and luocha as catherine (katherine???? i lwk dont know how to spell her name)
it was honestly difficult for me to choose who was who (i had a lot of thoughts of jing yuan as catherine) but ultimately decided on him as rudolph because of personality and also their roles. i also think luocha as catherine would be a better fit because of the ending
BUT I WANT TO HEAR WHAT U THINK :3
OH MY GOD HI DAZ, YES YES I AGREE.
Jingluo is truly like little parasites that burrow in you and refuse to budge.
ANYWAYS YES DANGEROUSLY YOURS I definitely agree. Catherine as Luocha is the best fit I believe. Catherine approaches Rudolph first, she's the one who lures him into the game of wits, akin to how Luocha lures Jing Yuan into their own metaphorical chess game by drawing his attention enough to get him invested. When they take too long, both of them are eventually pushed to ignite the final confrontation so to speak, forcing the other player to abandon their passive role of observing them to become more active.
I also do believe that between the two of them, Luocha would have more difficulty firing the gun in that moment. Jing Yuan would struggle but he's fired the gun before, he's the one who read Dan Feng's sentencing after all, he's practiced. Luocha on the other hand is somebody who would struggle to let go, his entire character is being unable to let go.
Luocha cannot let go of life because the dead will return and Yaoshi will not let him. He has bad memories of his home world but he can't let go of his clothes from there, wearing them to remind himself of the road he must travel. He carts around the coffin because he cannot let go of a deal he made. He risks being exposed too soon to heal Xueyi because he can't let go that she's hurt. As Jingliu says, there's a hole where his heart is and he exhausts himself trying to fill it. If Jing Yuan became something that fills that hole, Luocha wouldn't be able to let him go. Rudolph is there to test Catherine, and she says it herself, Rudolph is dearer than her country. Jing Yuan wouldn't need to be tested, he's already pulled that trigger enough times to prove himself. Luocha, however, would grapple with duty over happiness, having to take on the burden of that hole in his heart again to do what he needs to do. It fits with the canon too, if Luocha truly seeks a greater alliance with the Xianzhou, he has to be ready to uphold that above himself.
Jing Yuan also fits as Rudolph especially well. He plays into the game already having an idea of what's going on and still gets blindsided by Luocha's moves. Rudolph wasn't sure if Catherine could shoot him in that moment and Jing Yuan couldn't see Luocha's true intentions until it was too late. Jing Yuan would also let Luocha go, the way Rudolph did Catherine. Jing Yuan let Blade go, he let Dan Heng go, and he lets Baiheng go every time he visits Bailu. He let Igor go knowing he would never see him again, that Igor had a life and a destiny he could be part of but not dictate. He let Jingliu go when he made the decision to kill her and release her from the Mara. In the way that Luocha cannot let go, Jing Yuan cannot bear to hold on. Even if he ends up alone again, he can't bring himself to chain anyone to his person in such a way.
In regards to his relationship with Luocha, it could end up a bit dysfunctional because of this. In the same way an animal used to captivity can't take care of itself in the wild, Luocha wouldn't take being freed for his own good after finally finding fulfillment very well. Jing Yuan would release him in a bid to prioritize his happiness/health and Luocha would die outside the safety of the fence, still looking for the hand that feeds him. To Rudolph, it was better to let Catherine think he never loved her when to Catherine, not knowing he was always on her side would be a greater pain. Jing Yuan and Luocha would be much the same. They're a bit unhealthy in that way but it adds to their charm.
Anyways, of course they would fit the episode literally titled "Masquerade". They're both donning masks/personas and engaging in a dance without truly being vulnerable enough to know the other fully. When the masks do come off, the dance is over, and one of them falls off the music box to be freed of the song.

jing yuan doesn't notice yinyue's approach at first , gaze forward & half lost in thought. he turns , however , at the slight brush of the vidyadhara's hand against his shoulder , smile curling his lips.
❛ i didn't expect you to come find me. ❜
he laughs softly , leaning into any slight touch. jing yuan is completely & utterly infatuated with the man at his side , & he makes no move to hide or diminish that fact. in fact , he looks up as yinyue leans down , lips brushing against his temple , & drawing a slight hum from jing yuan's throat. there's an undeniable pinkness to his cheeks , golden gaze softening at the edges.
❛ stay for a moment. ❜
his hand rests against yinyue's jaw lightly , thumb brushing over his skin. such peaceful moments like this , the two of them , are something jing yuan wants to cherish , letting a fond smile cross his face. it's only a moment before he grins , leaning up just enough to return the kiss , this time against the high elder's lips.
❛ i couldn't help myself. i can never seem to kiss you as much as i'd like. ❜
another chuckle leaves him.
❛ forgive my selfishness , qīn ài de ?? ❜
