#tv shows have to be reallyyyy compelling to get me to watch them bc it's just so much material in comparison to a standalone film

You know, I often watch bad movies and read bad books on purpose so I can criticize them or laugh at them or both. Besides the unintentional hilarity of "so bad it's good" media, I enjoy the intellectual challenge of picking apart why something doesn't work and how it could be better. I've reviewed live-action remakes of animation several times before, and of course on this blog I've talked at length about my issues with HTTYD: THW.
But the live-action HTTYD is too much even for me. Even if I were to pirate it to avoid shelling out for a movie ticket, it's just so gross (both artistically and visually/literally) that I don't think I could make it through the first five minutes without throwing up.
I still have some morbid curiosity about plot changes and the like, so I'll keep an eye out for other people's reviews. But rather than watching it myself, I think I'll re-watch HTTYD 2 and try to analyze that instead -- I haven't watched it beginning to end since its initial release in 2014, so I'm sure I'll notice more and interpret things differently now as an adult.
So. Liveblog and/or review coming within the next couple months? Stay tuned...
#my post#httyd remake#httyd 2#planning to peruse Rasputin and HPB so I might pick up other DVDs while I'm there. make a nice outing of it in these trying times#preemptive HTTYD-related disclaimer: I have not watched any of the spinoff tv shows and have little to no interest in doing so#which I mention bc a lot of criticism I've seen within the fandom relies on comparisons to the show's plots/characterization#but I won't be doing that#tv shows have to be reallyyyy compelling to get me to watch them bc it's just so much material in comparison to a standalone film#with a few exceptions it's just not a medium I enjoy very much#so I shan't be sitting through 8+ hours of tv episodes when what I really want to do is just analyze a movie#and that's not something filmmakers expect of audiences either. theatrical releases should make sense on their own#(excluding recent MCU nonsense which is Not Normal to the point even MCU fans have complained)#just wanted to get that out of the way
