me in 2021: I mean there's an obvious single correct choice for whom I should play in this campaign reboot

my brain, insistently and correctly: no... there is Another

trying to build a new character for a rebooting campaign and right now my options are:

forest gnome rogue, something something actually uses the talking to animals thing? has red hair maybe??? I just really love inquisitive rogue idk???

OR an eldritch knight I’ve already fully built and even played in a one shot, whose entire personality and motivation I already have figured out, whose backstory I can build into this campaign really easily, who would be a great fit for this story on a bunch of different levels, but he’s directly based on something else and I don’t know if I can play him as his own character in a whole campaign without being, like, super distracted by that

#benny's fun and a perfectly good guy but if I was gonna be insane about him I would have by now #benny WOULD have been HOPELESSLY smitten with limerick though which is kind of funny #he would also be so full of starry-eyed admiration for simon tbh. eldritch knight aspiring to an artificer multiclass; he loves tinkering #but again... he's directly based on an existing character.... it's a bit distracting. it puts a space between us emotionally I think #the lad ain't much but he IS also everything to me you know how it is #god. god. god. imagine this timeline. we play literally exactly two sessions of the reboot and I go ':/ yeah I figured. oh well'#and move on with my life #INSTEAD OF GOING INSANE ABOUT MY LITTLE GUY???
