That confessional is poorly translated, and was...
I see that moribirds not only came into my DMs to harrass me about my comment but now also is telling friends about it to reblog from me with the exact same arguments all over again! If y’all don’t leave me alone I’m not above posting screen caps of the conversation. I was as calm and polite as i could manage and tried to be patient with her but she wouldn’t leave me alone. I already told her that I wasn’t calling her or anyone names. All i did was make a passing comment in tags that i’m sick of people arguing against this and mentioned transphobes and fujoshi as the most common perpetrators. I also apologized for them feeling offended and for it seeming possibly directed at them. But honestly with how vehemently y’all argue against it maybe it could apply after all? I can’t really see why else the concept would bother you this much unless you have some personal issue with grell being trans. And as I said, Japan is really new to trans topics. There has been a growing lgbt movement in recent years trying to educate people but a majority of Japanese culture doesn’t understand the difference between gender and sexuality and often conflate the two. In fact, I haven’t been able to find a single Japanese word for transgender that doesn’t hold connotations to drag or gay so it’s very confusing to talk about at all with that in mind. Yana may very well have intended for grell to follow the okama trope, but the moment she wrote this about wanting a sex change and believing god made a mistake and etc is the moment that all changed, even if she wasn’t aware of the implications she was making or the difference between okama and trans. I, for one, choose to believe grell’s words about herself because so often people ignore trans people when they speak their truth and it’s a trend that has to stop. Plus, trans people are so lacking in representation in media that this far outweighs any desire for yaoi ships or any cis discomfort or whatever other reasons there may be for being against this so strongly. You’re welcome to believe as you wish, but when you start trying to erase it as merely a headcanon and nothing more that’s not being accepting that’s actively trying to hurt a community who finally has a trans character in manga for once. Let them have it, what’s it to you? It’s not hurting you.
#it's not letting me reblog from the actual post for whatever reason so i had to do this instead.#tumblr mobile ate my reply twice and now i'm on PC and it's still not letting me so here#discourse#edit: i blocked them now so hopefully this will be the end of it
