The article "FMK-3 Submachine Gun — Argentina's Uzi?" by Peter Suciu, published on The Armory Life, explores the history and technical features of the Argentine FMK-3 submachine gun. Initially developed to replace older submachine guns like the P.A.M 1 and P.A.M 2 during the early 1970s, the FMK-3 saw its first significant use during Argentina’s "Dirty War" and later in the 1982 Falklands War. The article details the weapon’s design, influenced by Israeli and Czechoslovak models, its operational mechanics, and its comparison to other contemporary firearms like the Uzi and the British Sterling submachine gun. Produced from 1975 until 1993 with around 85,000 units, the FMK-3 remains in use today primarily within Argentine and other South American law enforcement and military units. The piece also touches on the limited appearances of the FMK-3 in popular culture and its ongoing legacy in the region.

It’s been a hot minute but I just can’t get over how much this dude brings be as much comfort as Barbie does.
Ken is your ultimate hype man.
Ken is your personal cheerleader.
Ken is the man who’d always root for you, even when you have given up on yourself.
If Ken had it his way, he’d root for you forever because he knows how capable you are of doing great and wonderful things, and he’ll gladly say it with his whole chest too. Yet sometimes all that positivity left you feeling as though you couldn’t live up to the expectations that he had when it came to you in fear of letting him down, allowing him to see that you weren’t this perfect being that he often portrays you as whether or not he was aware of it.
You didn’t blame Ken, he had only wanted to help you but there’d be days where you want to return the gesture tenfold, to show him how amazing and beautiful he is for sticking by you through particularly rough times, even if his advice wasn’t entirely sound, you still understood that he only had the best of intentions. You wanted Ken to know that his actions and words haven’t gone unnoticed by you and that you held them as close to your heart as you did with him. However when the day came…it was Ken who once again came to your rescue as you were suffering from a particularly rough time mentally.
Whilst Ken was doing his usual Ken thing in attempting at making you feel better, you found yourself automatically blurting out; ‘you’re amazing, you know that?’ You told him rhetorically. ‘Because you are. You’re always so kind to me, so sweet, so encouraging, so…god I can’t put into words how special you truly are Ken and I’ve been meaning to thank you for everything but,’ you shrugged pathetically whilst laughing teary at your own misfortune, ‘you’re once again stuck here reassuring me instead…and sometimes I feel as though I’m taking advantage of you and your kindness as I’m over here feeling sorry for myself for being sad.’ You paused briefly before continuing. ‘you weren’t made to keep doing this much to the deferment of your own well being.’
Ken, who was sat beside you, listened intently, frowned for a moment as he was taking in everything you had just said, before he sat himself up in bed to reach to the back of his neck to unclip his most prized possession; the silver horseshoe pendant he always had on as he then wordlessly took your hand and pressed the necklace into your palm. Naturally you were against this and tried to push the pendant back to him, muttering a ‘Ken no,’ but that only made Ken’s frown deepen.
‘Why?’ He asked.
‘I can’t take your totally tubular, wickedly awesome horse pendant.’ You told him, using the very exact words that he used when first getting the horse themed accessory. ‘It belongs to you and you shouldn’t have to give it up for anyone. Not even me.’ You added with a whisper.
‘When you said that I’m not made to keep comforting you whenever your sad, or even the slightest bit distressed, I want you to know that that’s the one thing I’m going to have to disagree with you on,’ Ken said as he took the pendant from you hand to put it on you himself, pulling away with a beaming smile across his face as he looked at how nicely the pendant looked on you, ‘because this is exactly what I was made for.’ He tells you before pressing a kiss to your nose, making you smile by osmosis.
‘That and horses.’ He quickly adds as you laugh at his goofy nature.

______
When she woke up in the morning she felt that she was alone. She looked around, completely naked and covered herself with the furs lying next to her, sighing heavily. She rose to sit up and pressed her lips together, feeling her moisture and her husband's spend slowly flowing out of her onto the bedding. She blushed at the memory of what he had whispered in her ear moments before she fell asleep.
I love you.
He said it.
He said it even though he didn't have to.
Even though she hadn't asked him to.
She felt happy and hopeful. Daeron's arrival with his reinforcements gave her the feeling that perhaps they were not in such a hopeless situation, that perhaps with her father's help this war could be won. With this thought, she stood up, calling her servant to help her take a bath and get dressed.
As the girl finished tying her buff, open sleeves to her gown her father walked into the tent, startling her completely. She pressed her lips together at the memory of what she had learned the day before from her brother and swallowed loudly, asking the servant to leave them alone. The girl bowed and left, an awkward silence ensued between her and her father.
Should she tell him that she knew?
She felt a squeeze in her heart at the thought that his illegitimate child was in Harrenhal.
She couldn't look him in the eye.
Her father grunted, clearly as stressed and concerned as she was.
"Did he tell you?" He asked lowly, uncertainly, his tubular voice trembling slightly. She looked at him in pain, tightening her lips.
"Not him, but Royce. I know my husband threatened you, Father. However, I already know, and you, if you wish, do what you want with your army." She said in a shaking voice, trying to remain calm, looking down at her trembling fingers, which she involuntarily played with.
She wanted to cry.
She felt hurt at the thought that her father was not as perfect as she had thought. She believed that other lords had mistresses, but not him.
That other lords had bastards, but not him.
She was naïve.
"Your husband has decided that we will move on the Eyrie." He said calmly, and she threw him a quick, shocked, horrified look, her heart beating harder in her chest. "And I supported that decision. We are leaving tonight."
She looked at him feeling her lower lip tremble, her eyes filled with tears, her whole body quivering.
Her husband, her father and her brother were going off to war, perhaps never to return from it.
"Why the rush…after all…." She mumbled, but her father interrupted her.
"Daemon is trying to find individuals born of dragon seed who have the potential to tame the dragons. They want to make them dragon riders. To have an advantage in the sky. If we let that happen, their fire will wipe us out. We need to surprise them. I agree with his decision." He said firmly, like a commander rather than a father, and she sobbed loudly, catching her stomach, his words cutting through her like sharp daggers.
She heard him draw in a loud breath, her reaction making him unsure how to act. He approached her, and after a moment she felt his large, familiar, rough hands on her head and then the cold steel of his armour against her cheek, his bearded face placed a kiss on her hair.
"– my sweet child –" He said in a breaking voice, and she wept in his arms, embracing him, feeling that what he had done, what he had hurt her with, no longer mattered.
"– Father –" She mumbled out loud as if crying out to him for help, as if begging him for something, though she didn't know what for herself.
Her father, who had always supported her, who had always been proud of her, who she could always count on, was now standing in front of her and offering her his comfort, his safe arms in which she sheltered herself when, on cold nights, she could not sleep, terrified by the darkness of her great chamber and the ghosts that might lurk beneath her bed.
"– forgive me, Father –" She whispered and heard him draw in a breath, swallowing loudly – she had the feeling that his voice had trapped in his throat as if he was about to cry himself.
His hand tightened on her head as if he wanted to give her reassurance that he would always be there for her, that she would never lose his support.
"It is I who should ask your forgiveness −" He said in a trembling voice she had rarely heard from him, the kind she had heard when he had sat beside her mother's bed and watched her life slowly leave her. "− I sold you − I −"
"– I love him, Father –" She said in a breaking voice, trying to calm her breathing, her heart pounding hard in terror. "– I'm happy to be his wife –"
Her father swallowed loudly and let out a quiet sigh, trying to calm down and pull himself together. He patted her on the back as if he wanted to pour a little reassurance into her so they would both stop crying.
"Good. Very good. I'm happy. You'll see, in just a few months I'll be holding my grandson in my arms and then…" He paused hearing someone walk into the tent.
She saw her husband's surprised face, pale and shaken, his pupil dilated wide, looking at her with fear.
Her father kissed her hair once more and let her go, heading for the entrance, and she looked at him with a misty gaze, as if she didn't quite believe herself what was happening. She looked at her husband's face, tears involuntarily running down her cheeks, her breathing uneven and accelerated.
She swallowed quietly as she saw him approach her slowly, his figure rigid and upright. He looked down at her, his lips tightened as if he was thinking intensely about what he wanted to say to her.
"If I don't come back, you will do whatever Rheanyra wants. You will bend the knee. Do you understand?" He asked coldly and she looked at him with dull eyes and shook her head.
If I don't come back.
Why did he say that?
"Daemon has a weakness for you, moreover you are with child. You will say that I forced you to do this and according to his will you tried to convince me to change my mind. If your father and brother survive, also let them submit to the will of him and my sister. I will not consider this a betrayal against me." He whispered, cupping her face in his hands, and she sobbed quietly at his words, terrified and distraught, unable to calm her breathing.
"− don't leave me −" She whispered, feeling as if he was saying goodbye to her, as if he felt that this time the will of heaven would not protect him. "− you promised me that after Harrenhal you would never leave me again − take me with you − I want to be by your side − I −"
She didn't finish as his lips pressed aggressively and violently to hers, his tongue invading her throat letting out a stifled, desperate moan. She clenched her hands in his hair pressing into his lips, seeking rescue in his closeness. He pulled away from her and pressed his forehead to hers, breathing hard, his gaze dark and troubled.
"I want to spend the next few hours with you and our child."
And so they did. At first they wanted to just make love to each other, but they stopped, too distraught at the prospect of sudden separation, and just snuggled into each other, his swollen manhood pulsing deep inside her.
She tried to remember the feeling, the feel of his arms around her, his scent, his face, his gaze.
She was terrified of losing him, and her body was trembling at that thought.
"Promise me you'll come back to me." She whispered and heard him swallow loudly and twist, all tense, his heart pounding like mad in his chest.
"I promise."
She watched helplessly as the servant put on his armour thinking that this wasn't really happening – she felt as if her heart was about to burst out of her chest, a cold sweat on her back. When he was in full equipage again he walked over to her and knelt down grasping her face in his hands, his soft lips placed a warm kiss on her forehead.
"Remember what I told you."
He stood up and disappeared a moment later and she was left alone, with a pounding heart and tears running down her cheeks.
Never before had she felt so scared, so alone, so abandoned.
She curled up, surrounding herself with furs, and just lay on the bedding. After a while, the noises around her quieted and there was an ominous silence, broken only by the footsteps of the guards passing by her tent and the wounded who had not gone off to battle.
Night fell, and she squeezed her eyes shut and began to pray.
Warrior, give them strength.
Father, guide them, do not let them harm your sons.
Mother, have mercy on them.
Stranger, do not take them away.
She repeated these four sentences over and over again, crying, rising quickly every time she heard any louder sound. She dressed in her nightgown and put a robe over it, poking her head out of the tent, but saw nothing.
She felt like she was losing her mind.
The hours seemed to lengthen like days to her. She lit a candle and tried to read, however she felt her body trembling all the time, glanced nervously at the entrance and wondered what was just happening.
She had never been so scared before in her life.
She felt helpless.
The first loud sounds and screams reached her ears in the morning. She roused herself from her restless half-sleep and ran out of the tent on her bare feet, looking ahead.
Their army was returning.
She covered her mouth and cried out loudly when she saw the silhouette of Vhagar and the other dragon in the distance, feeling relief flow through her body.
He had made it.
He had returned.
She saw the dragons land in the distance, and she ran between the cheering men towards the flying deer banners, searching her eyes for Royce and her father. Her heart beat harder when she spotted him, his face pale and smeared with blood, he looked as if he could barely see out of sight.
He only woke up when he saw her running up to his horse. She put her hand on his knee breathing unevenly, feeling uneasy.
"Where is our father?" She panted, smiling, thinking that perhaps their father was injured and being carried somewhere behind.
Royce stared down at her and answered nothing. She stroked his knee as if to comfort and reassure him, seeing how tense he was.
"Brother?" She asked quietly, her voice trembling slightly, but a hopeful smile was still painted on her face.
Only after a moment did she glance sideways and see a horse pulling a cart, with a body on top of it covered in the cloth of the Baratheon banner.
She felt her heart stop and ran over there on shaking legs despite Royce's shouts for her to stop. Her brother jumped off his horse and ran after her, grabbing her around the waist and preventing her from pulling off the material she wanted to grab.
"Who's there? I want to see him." She mumbled, breathing heavily, feeling like the world around her was spinning.
"Don't look, please. His body burned." Her brother mumbled weakly, and she drew in air with a quiet, mournful whine, clenching her fingers painfully tightly on his hands, trying to pull away from him.
"− let me go, Royce −" She said menacingly, struggling against him, the soldiers around them looking at the scene with sympathy and embarrassment.
"− stop −" He said helplessly, his grip strong as steel, both of them panting heavily. "− please, stop −"
"− LET ME GO TO HIM −" She cried out loudly, reaching out towards the cloth, slipping to her knees. Royce leaned over her, kissing her hair, his cold armour almost scorching her heated flesh.
"− he doesn't look like you remember him anymore − please −" He said pleadingly, and she fell down on the grass.
She clamped her fingers over her mouth, a loud, high-pitched, squeaky, almost inhuman scream came from her lungs, so terrifyingly pathetic that the men around her averted their gazes.
Scream after scream ripped from her throat as if someone were skinning her, as if someone were ripping her heart out alive, with sobs in between taking her breath away.
It felt like she knelt like that for hours, unable to calm down, Royce knelt next to her, his shaky voice not reaching her mind, not understanding what he was saying to her.
Her father was dead.
Her beloved father, her support, her companion.
He was dead.
He would never see her child.
She cried out louder at that thought and tucked her head between her knees wanting to disappear, to melt into the ground, to die.
"Prince Daeron is dead." Royce said indifferently, and she felt her heart stop. She swallowed loudly, wiping her nose and face.
So who was the other dragon rider she had seen?
"King Aegon joined the battle at the last moment." He said, and she froze, staring blankly ahead.
Aemond.
She looked around as if for a moment she didn't know where she was, the men watching her outburst of despair averted their eyes and dispersed. She rose on shaky legs.
"Where are you going? Wait! I…" Royce called out, grabbing her arm, but she pulled away from him.
She moved back through the camp hearing everything as if underwater, the joy of the men around her and their shouts seemed to her unnatural, strange, out of this world.
What was making them so happy?
What were they rejoicing about?
With difficulty she reached their shared tent, and as she walked inside she froze, seeing him before her.
His eye pierced her deeply. He was sitting in a chair facing her, his hands spread out on the armrests, his chin lifted slightly, his gaze cold and blank.
Like when he had arrived in Storm's End.
She wanted to shout that it was his fault, that she hated him, that it was all because of him and his brother.
She wanted to shout out how much she was suffering now.
But she couldn't.
They stared at each other in silence for a long moment. After a while, as if some impulse flowed through her she twitched, and her body moved forward.
One step, a second, a third.
As if she were a small child learning to walk.
She looked down at him, his healthy eye didn't even blink, watching her intensely.
She heard him swallow loudly, surprised, as she climbed onto his lap and snuggled into him, hugging her face to his chest, tucking her legs under her chin, trying to press her body into his. She felt him tremble, felt his heart beating hard against her face.
He had come back to her.
He had promised her and he had returned.
After a moment, she felt his trembling arms rise and embrace her tightly, his familiar, warm hands on her womb and in her hair. She burst out into a silent sob feeling it.
"Your father killed Daemon." He said and she felt her heart stop.
"He hit him with a crossbow when he tried to jump off Caraxes and pierce me with his Dark Sister. That's why Baela…" He said, and his voice stuck in his throat. She felt her heart beat harder, her lips parted in accelerated breath.
Your father killed Daemon.
He hit him with a crossbow when he tried to jump off Caraxes and pierce me with his Dark Sister.
Nothing mattered, nothing her father had done in the past could change the pride and love she felt for him.
Her father saved her husband.
"And Daeron…" It came out of his throat like a painful cry.
She stroked his shoulder feeling the pain in her heart, suddenly remembering cruelly clearly that he too had lost someone that night.
"– I tried to help him –"
"– shhh –" She whispered, lifting herself up. She embraced his terrified, pale face and cuddled his head into her breasts, offering him the shelter of her body, even though she was going through grief herself.
She could have crushed him, destroyed him, told him it was his fault, that he deserved this suffering.
But then he would sink back into his darkness.
She could see that he stood at the edge of the precipice over which he stood when she met him.
She could have pulled him back or pushed him forward to fall.
"− it's my fault − he was only a child − he was afraid, and I −" He mumbled out, her heart pounding like mad.
"− help me −" He muttered helplessly, and she felt her breath caught in her lungs. "− help me −"
She saw him with the eyes of her imagination, saw him in the void, in the blackness, in the emptiness, her husband, her god, her Stranger.
Help me.
She grasped his face in her hands, his healthy eye red, wide open, terrified.
He looked at her as he had never looked at her before.
He was utterly vulnerable, open to any hurt from her, ready to finally fall, to hear who he was.
She kissed him greedily, clasping her hands around his neck and hair, putting all the rage and love she felt for him into his lips. He moaned loudly into her mouth reciprocating her caress, his fingers on her cheeks and in her hair drawing her close.
She shuddered and pulled away from him with a quiet click when she heard a servant stepped into their tent to announce that the King was expecting him.
Her husband refused to go without her. He waited patiently for her servant to help her comb her hair and dress her in her gown.
Brown and gold.
The colours of the Baratheons.
As she walkend into the tent with her husband, Aegon's eyes widened as if he had seen a ghost.
He didn't know where to look, so he looked away.
She stood next to Royce, trying to hide the trembling of her hands. Her husband did not stand beside his brother-king, but beside her. Aegon held out his hand towards him.
"Lords, behold my brother, destroyer of Caraxes, slayer of our…"
Aemond did not let him finish, his voice expressing fatigue and impatience.
"Lord Borros Baratheon fired a crossbow towards my uncle as he leapt from Caraxes and sought to stab me with his Dark Sister. The arrow pierced his neck. He died in the fire of Moondancer." He explained coolly and she swallowed loudly, lowering her gaze.
She tried not to think about it, she couldn't get over it, her mind repressed it.
Her father's burnt body lay somewhere on some cart covered with cloth, surely already rotting in the sun.
A spasm went through her body at the thought, but she only swallowed loudly and clenched her eyes shut, trying to calm herself down.
Aegon grunted at his brother's words and nodded, his gaze shifting to Royce.
"Lord Baratheon. In accordance with your family's tradition, you will now become the ruler of Storm's End. As I understand it, I can count on your devotion and loyalty, just as I could count on the same from your heroic father?" He asked feigning lightheartedness, as if Royce's answer was obvious, but she knew it wasn't and looked at her brother horrified.
Royce pressed his lips together and glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, shifting from foot to foot. She put her hand on his shoulder, looking at him pleadingly.
Don't do this to me Royce, she thought.
He'll kill you if you don't bend the knee.
Her brother swallowed loudly, the words leaving his throat with difficulty.
"I am faithful to you, my King." He choked out and she breathed a quiet sigh of relief. "I wish to take my father's body to Storm's End and bury him in our home fortress. Then I will return with my army, and…"
"My Lord, you and your army will go where I command." He was interrupted by Aegon, and she looked at him wrinkling her brows, furious at his tone of voice, at the fact that he had flown in when everything was a foregone conclusion, that he had lost nothing.
The King, however, caught her gaze and swallowed quietly, embarrassed, his voice softening a tad.
"However, I understand the need for a quick burial, and I offer him the royal burial by fire that awaits my brother as well." He said, as if he was doing them a favour, but Royce laughed at his words in disbelief.
A royal burial by fire might have seemed like an act of grace to him, but not to them.
"You want to burn my father?" Her brother hissed, and she tightened her hand on his arm, feeling the fury rising within him. Aegon shrugged his shoulders at his words.
"Lord Lannister and my uncle will remain in the Eyrie together with the rest of the army. Lord Stark has retreated to Winterfell and is trapped, surrounded on all sides. Without Daemon they will be in disarray. The usurper may, in a fit of madness, try to attack King's Landing and that is where our main forces must now be. Inform your sisters to come to the Red Keep and take your father's body or ashes to Storm's End." He said lightly. Ser Criston grunted loudly, a long scar on his face from someone's cut.
"Shouldn't at least one dragon stay here?" He asked uncertainly, and Aegon sighed heavily.
"And guard what? The ruins? Our armies will create a wall that will cut off the North from supplies from the South. If they wish to starve to death for the Usurper, so be it." He snorted impatiently. After a moment, another commander, a vassal of House Hightower spoke up.
"What shall we do with Lord Greyjoy? He does not yet know that Prince Daeron is dead. What about the agreement? Without his fleet, we have no chance at sea." He said uncertainly, and silence sounded around them. Aegon swallowed loudly, looking at him terrified and grunted.
"Well… the Lord of Storm's End cannot be left without an heir." He said lightly, and she felt a cold sweat on her back – she cast a quick glance at her brother. Royce was red with rage, his lips tightened into a thin line.
He had lost his father to this fool, and now he wanted to put his conditions on him.
"No." He hissed, looking at him with hatred. "You will not force me to marry."
She was frightened by his directness and what Aegon might do with his words, so she decided to quickly interject and defuse the situation.
"Lord Greyjoy wanted a Prince as a husband for his granddaughter, not a Lord, my King." She said quickly, but felt discomfort when Aegon laughed at her words.
"Then perhaps I should command my brother, and your husband, to take a second wife like Aegon the Conqueror and close the whole discussion. What do you think, my Lords?" He asked loudly, and she felt a sting of humiliation ripple through her body at his words.
Perhaps I should command your husband to take a second wife.
She felt like crying at the very thought, her brother standing beside her was on the verge of bursting with anger.
"Careful, brother." Her husband hissed suddenly in such a tone that she looked at him shocked, his eye wide open.
For a moment they measured glances.
"− King." His brother corrected him, and she saw his husband's face stretch in a dangerous, dark grin not reaching his eye that she knew so intimately, that she had seen when he looked at Luke.
When he wanted to kill someone.
Aegon grunted, pretending not to see it, and turned to the Lords again.
"So it is settled. Send a letter to Lord Greyjoy informing him of my brother's death, the changes in the agreement recognising that the new Lord Baratheon will marry his granddaughter. Inform him also of the death of Daemon Targaryen and the heir to the throne of that usurping whore."

Auradon Campus Gossip:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/cb7e176af40569b7e11c13862226d8b1/8fe411e997b71fe1-16/s540x810/51877357f2e36c9d5b7a9b54ee007e8f55ef6d55.jpg)
Audrey and Chad are very funny, but ADULTS??
I will be taking these teacher names and running, thank you very much. They’re my OCs now and I will not be stopped.
Horace the Librarian
The cool librarian. Probably the one who started Doug’s enduring idea that bow ties look cool and suave. His color scheme is blue and red, just so he stands out from the students a bit.
Auradon Prep definitely has two libraries, the regular working library, and the research library. Horace works in the research library, helping the older students with their junior and senior projects.
Horace is the best librarian to talk to if you’re struggling with college essays. He’s able to tease a personal statement out of even the most shy students, and he’ll make you feel good about yourself as he’s doing it. He genuinely believes that every single person has a story worth telling, so long as you can frame it the right way. After all, he’s just the son of a bookseller from a quiet village, and look at where he is now.
Judy the Guidance Counselor
Judy genuinely loves her job. She’s here for the guidance, but also for the gossip. She loves working with troublemaker students, because they’re the most fun to work with and she gets to actually help them out.
She tries very hard to be hip with the kids. Judy uses all the slang she’s heard from students, and is totally tubular and hip to the jive of the youth trends. She’s on-trend and bussin.
She wears exclusively pantsuits, because again, she’s young and cool and wears pants instead of skirts. She thinks this will keep her cool in the eyes of the students. Her favorite one is a brown courdroy suit with a matching floral scarf, very vintage Auroria-style.
Abigail the Biology Teacher
She specialized in marine biology in college! Her main research is actually on invasive fish populations in the reefs around Atlantica. She would love to get her hands on the reefs within the Isle of the Lost barrier, but she’s not sure how to balance such an important research topic with her teaching career.
She’s very invested in independent learning. Every year she has her freshmen do a research project on a native species that has personal significance to them, and she keeps a tracking sheet of what all her students choose each year.
An astrology gal to her core, Abigail will detail class to talk about her horoscope if you can time it right. The sophomore bio II class takes the most advantage of this. They’ve made a class theme song for Astrology Moments with Abigail.
Margaret the Philosophy Teacher
Margaret started her career as a castle chaplain, and only switched to teaching after her nieces started asking her more and more philosophical questions. Yes, she is the sort of teacher who will engage in a scholarly debate with a five year old. Her high school students are nothing compared to her sister’s toddlers.
Philosophy isn’t exactly a popular elective at Auradon Prep, so Margaret has a lot of time between classes where she engages in personal research. She’s currently writing a book about the afterlife, and she’s written several well-reviewed scholarly papers about the philosophical implications of children’s internal narratives.
She also acts as a dorm monitor for the junior and senior girl’s dorms. She hosts the best late-night study events, and most of her students genuinely like her as a dorm monitor, even though part of her job is patrolling the halls during lights-out and breaking up their illegal room parties.

If I get bad service, I play the world’s worst song on the jukebox and leave.
I go to sports bars quite often to watch games and eat basic bar food. At most of the bars I go to, they have a machine on the wall where you can spend $1 to purchase a song from Apple Music and play it across the entire facility. On the Apple Music store, there’s a song called “tubular bells part 2”. It’s possibly the most rage inducing song I’ve ever heard, if you would even call it a song. I have no clue how it ended up on Apple Music, but I definitely use this fact to my advantage. It’s basically just some dude jamming on random instruments, it’s not terrible, but the song has no real rhythm it’s trying to get in to and no specific beat it’s trying to build off. It’s like the beginning of a Pink Floyd song that just constantly builds up and the second you think he (or she) is gonna get in to rhythm or start jamming out, they either change instruments entirely, or restart and continue playing different chords. It quite literally will drive you nuts if you’re forced to listen to it. And the best part is it’s 26 minutes long. I’ve been at a few bars where there was no way for the bartender or waiter to cancel the song out without flipping the breaker powering the sound system to reboot it. I’ve stuck around a few times to see everyone suffer. But the last few times I’ve done it, I’ve immediately left as to not blow my cover.
Last month I went to a pretty large chain sports bar that I won’t name and got absolutely terrible service. Food was bad, server came to refill our beers once in over an hour and we had to go to the bar a few times to top off. And to make the matter worse, we got kicked out of our table after an hour and a half cause apparently our table was reserved for a specific time for a ball game that came on soon. No big deal though, I get it, so we just moved to the bar. I was a bit frustrated as I’ve been to this place many times before and we usually get much better service. I wasn’t mad or anything, but I was annoyed enough where I decided I was gonna make everyone’s ears bleed for a little while before they shut the music system down to play the ball game on the sound system across the restaurant. Seeing the visible confusion and frustration across everyone’s face across the entire bar is a good way to make an OK night great.
To those of you who frequent bars and restaurants with the music box on the wall, you’re welcome.

Alfa Romeo Disco Volante by Touring Superleggera
The Disco Volante is a two-seater Gran Turismo. It is based on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione coupé with its front-central mounted 4.7 litre V8 engine and a transaxle rear drive with unmodified specifications. Each unit, of which the construction requires 4,000 hours of manual work. The present Disco Volante celebrates the myth of the 1952 style icon. The new design briefing required to blend ingredients as innovation, emotion and aerodynamic properties into a timeless and essential shape.During the development stage, Head of Design Louis de Fabribeckers and his team cooperated with the engineers on an almost daily basis. “We focused on the preservation of the design essence. – says de Fabribeckers – Once the design frozen, we had to understand the manufacturing problems and solve them right away without compromising the design.”In consistency with the car’s design philosophy the interior has a ‘science fiction’ feel to it. Part of this ‘spaceship’ atmosphere was created by elements like the red LED interior light profiles. Also, aeronautics has been the inspiration for parts like the dashboard, instruments and seat adjustment lever. The Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione chassis was chosen for its light and rigid structure and its outstanding dynamic properties. Therefore it forms the perfect basis for the coach-built bodywork of the Disco Volante, integrally conserving the rolling chassis and drive train. The Alfa Romeo 8C’s steel space-frame and other structural elements were retained to guarantee torsion stiffness, high performance and the quality standard. The frame members and the central carbon cell remained unchanged. Elements of the underpinning and the body, such as the engine bay and firewall, the windscreen and cowl, the a-pillar and the locks and hinges have been retained too, just as the dashboard and instruments, the pedals and the steering wheel. Parts like doorframes, the roof frame and the c-pillar have been modified to match with the new shape. The layout of a front-central mounted engine, a transaxle transmission and rear-wheel drive offers an optimal weight distribution of 49-51% between the front and rear axles. To ensure excellent handling the front and rear double-wishbone suspension scheme is combined with hub carriers of forged aluminium and additional trailing arms for the rear suspension. The lightweight and compact 4.7 litre V8 engine delivers 450HP and 480Nm peak torque. It is coupled with a six-speed sequential transaxle gearbox with electronic control and paddle-shift gear selection. Together with a limited-slip differential and a state-of-the-art braking system with large diameter, ventilated discs a precise, dynamic and proactive drive is ensured. The Disco Volante can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4,2 seconds and has a top speed of about 290 km/h (181 mph).
All new and modified components of the Disco Volante have been CAD designed. In this process, which covers feasibility, safety, homologation, aerodynamics and structural analysis, the most advanced IT tools and simulation techniques have been used.
Since torsion stiffness and noise reduction are of critical importance, special attention has been paid to the under-body structure and its elements, like the tubular frames supporting the rear wings and bumper, and the roll bar joining the c-pillars. Other complex design issues were the tailgate hinges, the 3d-cambered door window, and the front wheel covers.
The Disco Volante was then submitted to a CFD aerodynamic study to enhance the airflow and ensure optimal downforce in the rear section. After that, FEM calculations were run to assess resistance and rigidity of all parts subject to homologation.
Touring Superleggera is synonymous with the manufacture of lightweight bodywork. The weight advantage of aluminium is one of the assets of Touring Superleggera’s construction methods. Nowadays however, the craft of hand-beating aluminium panels is combined with the use of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). For the Disco Volante, Touring decided to use this combination of aluminium and CFRP. This has been the result of a study conducted to define optimal use of materials for the bodywork in terms of weight, resistance, precision, finish and quality, and ease of repair in case of damage.
The CFRP is used for specific components like the front bumper and grille, the bonnet, the skirts, the boot lid and the integrated rear-window frame. The bonnet and the boot lid are sandwich-built with Nomex filler in-between to obtain a better stiffness/weight ratio and to dampen vibration and noise.
The aluminium panels are hand-beaten using an epoxy mould. Since the inner frames of most parts of the bodywork are made of CFRP, this requires gluing of aluminium on carbon fibre. This technique adds to the rigidity as the glue has structural properties.
The body panels are pre-assembled on a laser measurement platform using a jig. This ensures that the strict tolerance required is respected. After adjustment, the panels are either welded or glued. The body-in-white is then used to preassemble and fit all trim components, brightware and moulding.

Cambrian: An explosion of life | Cambriano: Uma explosão de vida
🇬🇧
During the Cambrian Period, which spanned from approximately 538 to 485 million years ago, Earth underwent a dramatic biological transformation known as the Cambrian Explosion. This epoch was characterized by an extraordinary burst of evolutionary activity, resulting in the rapid diversification of complex multicellular life forms.
Among the notable inhabitants of the Cambrian seas were trilobites, arthropods with hard exoskeletons and distinctive three-lobed bodies. Anomalocarids, another prominent group, were enigmatic arthropods that occupied the role of top predators, boasting large spiny appendages and segmented bodies. Opabinia, with its tubular body and unique proboscis, added an element of peculiarity to the Cambrian fauna. The period also saw the existence of Hallucigenia, a spiky worm-like organism that initially perplexed researchers with its unusual anatomy. Wiwaxia, a small marine creature with a slug-like appearance, contributed to the diverse array of life forms.
This period was marked by innovation and experimentation, and laid the groundwork for various body plans and anatomical structures that would shape the course of evolution. Fossil evidence from this time provides invaluable insights into the early stages of animal life and the processes that led to the rich biodiversity observed on Earth today. It also marked a significant transition in the evolution of life on Earth, particularly with the emergence and diversification of sexual reproduction. Before this period, asexual reproduction was the dominant method. However, during the Cambrian Period, there was a notable shift towards sexual reproduction, involving the fusion of specialized reproductive cells or gametes.
This shift had several advantages, including the introduction of genetic variation. Sexual reproduction led to a mixing of genetic material from two parents, fostering increased diversity among offspring. This diversity, in turn, allowed for a broader range of adaptations to the environment, promoting the evolution of more complex and specialized organisms. The adaptability provided by sexual reproduction was crucial in the dynamic and competitive ecosystems of the Cambrian Period. The variability introduced through this process facilitated a more rapid response to changing environmental conditions.
While the specifics of when and how sexual reproduction evolved during the Cambrian Period remain uncertain due to limited direct evidence in the fossil record, the widespread appearance of complex multicellular organisms during this time suggests a correlation between the emergence of sexual reproduction and the rapid diversification of life. It was a true sex revolution!

A crane barge is an offshore barge that has a sheer-legs crane or fully rotating crane. A sheer-legs crane can pick loads and luff but not swing. The sheer legs consist of an A-frame made up of two heavy, tubular members or trussed columns held back by heavy stays to the bow. A sheer-legs barge is maneuvered by deck engines, tugs, or mounted outboard engine propellers. The crane barge positions its stern at the side of the material barge, picks the load, and then moves as necessary to set the load in exact position. Modern torque-converter deck engines and propellers with variable pitch allow a high degree of accuracy in positioning - crane barge service.
In this occurrence, the tug and towed vessels did not exhibit the required lights and shapes, and no assessment was conducted as to their compliance with the Collision Regulations. There were no company procedures to ensure that masters were exhibiting the appropriate lights and shapes on their vessels. In this occurrence, contrary to accepted industry standards for towing, the towing arrangement employed synthetic fibre rope couplers, despite the exposed waters in the area, time of year, and expected weather conditions - Catalina Island Barge Service.
A partition in a ship that divides the interior space into various compartments in the walls of a vessel’s tanks. Clean - Term applied to the seawater used for ballast when it is not contaminated by any oil and is carried in clean tanks. Accommodation Ladder - A term applied to a portable flight of steps suspended over the side of a vessel from a gangway to a point near the water, providing any easy means of access from a small boat. Accommodation Ladders are usually supplied with two platforms, one at each end.
The crane barge positions its stern at the side of the material barge, picks the load, and then moves as necessary to set the load in exact position. Modern torque-converter deck engines and propellers with variable pitch allow a high degree of accuracy in positioning, on the order of mm. One of the advantages of a sheer-legs crane barge over a fully revolving derrick barge is that the load is always picked over the stern end, hence preventing list from the swing of the crane. Hi GPODers! Yesterday we explored the joys (and beauty) of producing food through Mark’s vegetable garden in Vermont (Mark’s Ornamental Vegetable Garden in Vermont). Today we’re discussing another vital reason to garden, to produce the food and shelter that is crucial for pollinator and wildlife survival. This eco-friendly inspiration comes from Michelle Detwiler, a Pennsylvania-based landscape designer and owner of Wild About Native Plants, who specializes in native plants and sustainable landscapes. Her gardens prove that you don’t need to give up on beauty to plant up something beneficial. Welcome to my habitat gardens in Southeastern Pennsylvania, Zone 7b. I choose plants with both beauty and wildlife in mind and have converted my space to native plantings over the last decade. Perched at the edge of an oak and hickory remnant in the Northern piedmont ecoregion, my soils are well-drained, and I maintain a diversity of habitat types including open sunny areas, shady woodlands, and a small wildlife pond. Nature finds encouragement in my space, as I welcome naturally occurring native tree and shrub saplings as well as perennials often considered weeds in other spaces. I also embrace big bold natives that support flying creatures of all sorts, and I’m sure to carefully steward my landscape through the seasons so as to support wildlife nesting needs in addition to floral abundance. My property is also on the Pollinator Pathway and attempts to capture as much rain water as possible through rain gardens for the health of the watershed. Summer is a time of floral abundance. The gardens are tall and lush. Blooming here are white-flowered wood aster (Eurybia divaricata, Zones 3–8) and flowering spurge (Euphorbia corollata, Zones 4–8) in the foreground with pink-flowered coastal plain Joe Pye weed (Eutrochium dubium, Zones 3–9) and yellow brown-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia triloba, Zones 4–7). Great blue lobelia (Lobelia siphilitica, Zones 4–9) sends up dense racemes of tubular blue flowers at the edge of the patio which is my favorite outdoor sitting spot to watch the bees, butterflies, and birds. Another view of these patio-hugging gardens shows off the red of cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis, Zones 3–9), a re-seeder responsible for much hummingbird happiness. I dot my windows with a washable white glass marker to make them more visible to birds—a window strike prevention technique requiring dots to be 2-4 inches apart. I also grow native thistles from seed like these field thistle (Cirsium discolor, Zones 3–9). They are biennial and seed around to fill holes and create surprises every August. In some years, there are loads of these tall beauties around the wildlife pond like you see here. They support an incredible array of wildlife like this large black and gold bumblebee… As well as the largest butterfly in my area, the Giant swallowtail—a species I only see when the thistles are blooming. Since I allow plants to die in place, a male goldfinch takes advantage of the thistle seeds for food and nesting material. Goldfinches nest after most other bird species while they wait for the thistle to mature, and I relish their estival company. Just ahead of fall, giant sunflower (Helianthus giganteus, Zones 3–9)—an important keystone plant supporting pollinators and moth larvae in my area—steals the show (and the attention of bumble bees and pollen-specialist bees alike). This vigorous spreader intermingles with the red rose hips of Virginia rose (Rosa virginiana, Zones 3–8), a vigorously suckering native rose that I keep in a container in the middle of the garden to manage its spread. One of my goals is to create stopover habitat for migrating birds—a space for them to safely rest and refuel during long journeys. My efforts are rewarded with visits by migrating warblers—like this sweet friend gleaning insects from the Joe Pye weed (Eutrochium purpureum, Zones 4–9) just outside of my kitchen window. In fall, the purple flowers of aromatic aster (Symphyotrichum oblongifolium, Zones 3–8) and red foliage of smooth sumac (Rhus glabra, Zones 3–9) greet visitors at my sunny roadside entry. In spring, the woodland walk in my upper gardens host native wildflowers like the perennial ground cover golden ragwort (Packera aurea, Zones 3–8) with yellow flowers on the left and purple phacelia (Phacelia bipinnatifida, Zones 5–8), a biennial with purple flowers on the right. Eastern redbud (Cercis canadensis, Zones 4–8) and common sassafras (Sassafras albidum, Zones 4–9) saplings anchor the sub canopy here. I collect white pine needles that fall on the driveway to dress the path and create softness under foot. Perennial stems and seed heads remain in winter in my space to support the nesting needs of native bees and other insects while also feeding winter birds. I like the structure that they provide and the seasonality of senescence as winter transitions to spring. (And I like the dog who looks to be having a ball in this garden, too!) Thank you so much for sharing your wildlife wonderland and sustainable gardening expertise with us, Michelle! Your gardens truly look like the epitome of tending the earth for better results for all who inhabit, and it is an inspiration for anyone wanting to add more native plants to their space. AC Greyhound (1 of 84).
The AC Greyhound was introduced at 1959 London Motor Show. It was the second Coupe based on the Ace Roadster but offered 2 + 2 seating. Like the Aceca’s, the Greyhound’s extremely shapely and attractive body was constructed in hand-formed aluminium over a tubular steel framework, while the longer-wheelbase tubular-steel chassis was more substantially built. One notable departure from the Aceca was the bottom-hinged boot lid, replacing the Aceca’s practical hatchback, although this new arrangement did have the advantage of enabling oversize luggage to be carried with the boot open. The result was a well engineered, lightweight, generously equipped and extremely pretty GT car in the best AC tradition, boasting rear passenger accommodation roomier than many ‘2+2’ rivals. Most of the 84 Greyhounds built left the factory in Thames Ditton with the six cylinder Bristol engine fitted. This propelled the car from standstill to 60mph in just over 11 secs and onto a top speed of 110mph.
