Part X here we go!!!
Joe got his castmates on skype to tell them the big news. Rami, Gwilym, and Lucy were in Chicago. Allen was in London. Ben was in Los Angeles. But all of them knew that it was the day, and they had already arranged a time for Joe to call when they could all answer. You and Joe were on your laptop at your apartment, grinning like crazy at each other and at your friends. They looked eagerly at the two of you.
“So,” said Rami. “Boy or girl?”
You and Joe looked at each other and then back at them.
“It’s a boy!” you cried in unison.
They all clapped and shouted their congratulations. You held up the latest sonogram and they absolutely fawned over it.
“He’s beautiful!” Lucy cooed.
“What are you gonna call him?” asked Ben.
“I thought I told you,” said Joe. “Joseph Francis Mazzello IV.”
“I mean, yeah, but you’re already Joe,” Ben said. “What’s his nickname gonna be?”
“Joey?” Gwilym guessed.
“I call him Joey,” you said, pointing to Joe.
“We could both be Joey,” Joe said.
“That might get confusing,” Allen added.
“Whatever we call him will come naturally, I think,” you said. “He might even tell us what he wants to be called.”
“That’s true,” Joe said.
You chatted with them for a little longer, and they caught you and Joe up on what was going on in their lives. It was nice to hear from them all. The only one you hadn’t met in person was Allen, but he was very nice. When they all had to go, you hung up. You sighed and looked at Joe, happier than you had been in a long time.
“So, what would you say to a round of destressing?” he teased, leaning over to kiss you.
“Is that what we’re calling it now?” you returned, smirking.
“It’s just doctor’s orders,” he said.
“Well, I can’t very well say no to that,” you said, kissing him again.
Giggling, you made your way to the bedroom to celebrate.
The following weeks were mostly focused on the move. You and Joe hired movers since you were well into your second trimester and it wasn’t safe for you to lift anything. It made you feel incredibly useless throughout the process. Joe insisted you were carrying the most precious piece of your home, and therefore had no obligation to move furniture or boxes.
On the official moving day, which ended up being late September, you spent time with Christy while Joe oversaw the moving process. It was nice to get quality time with her and celebrate your friendship together before you both took steps you knew meant less time for each other. Several times throughout the day, you got a little emotional thinking about it. As much as you loved Joe, you were going to miss Christy dearly. You were walking together in Central Park when you had to stop and rest.
“Sorry,” you said as you took a seat on a bench. “I’m feeling a little nauseous.”
“Ice cream didn’t agree with little Joey?” she wondered.
You shook your head. “I dunno. I’m still having a lot of nausea. Not as much as the first trimester, but enough to be annoyed.”
“Is that normal?” she asked.
“I have no idea,” you said with a shrug. “Pregnancy is so fucking weird I figure there’s no ‘normal’ way, y’know?”
“I guess that’s fair,” she chuckled.
“According to Google I shouldn’t worry,” you said. “It’s probably just that my hormones are going crazy right now.”
“It just sucks you can’t take anything,” she said.
“Yeah,” you agreed. “I get headaches a lot too, so it’s doubly awful.”
“God, I’m never getting pregnant,” she joked.
“Never say never,” you returned. “Don’t forget we weren’t trying for Joey here.”
She laughed. “I’m gonna be super careful to not get pregnant,” she corrected.
When you were feeling better, you began walking again. You told her about all the things you and Joe had done to prepare the house and what you’d gotten for the nursery. She was honestly thrilled for you and couldn’t wait to see it.
Joe picked you up from the park, looking sweaty and exhausted from a whole day of moving. After saying goodbye to Christy, you slid into the passenger seat, cradling your belly in one hand as you settled in. Joe kissed your cheek.
“You look sexy,” you joked, wiping his hair off his soaked forehead.
He smiled. “The house is almost done. We just need to unpack clothes, but I’ve got stuff for us to wear tonight.”
“Okay, we can take care of that tomorrow,” you said. “I can’t wait to see it.”
It looked much like you had imagined it would over the weeks. You and Joe had picked out everything together, and it really felt like yours. This was the Mazzello home. Joe wrapped an arm around your shoulders as you walked through it together. There were boxes of clothes, and some kitchen things that needed to be put away, but that was all part of moving.
“Welcome home,” Joe said.
You grinned. “It’s perfect.”
That evening, after you and Joe ordered a pizza and had that for dinner, you settled into bed pretty early. For the first night in many, you didn’t make love because he was so tired. You didn’t push because your stomach still felt a little queasy and you didn’t feel super sexy. Just as you leaned back against your pillows and cracked open a book, your phone rang.
“Who’s that?” Joe mumbled beside you, half asleep already.
“It’s Christy,” you said, and picked up. “Hey, sweetie. What’s up?”
“I just got our mail,” she said. “You’ve got a letter from Nick.”
“What?” you gasped. “Can you bring it over? We’re already in bed.”
She scoffed. “Really? You leave our apartment for one day and you’re already a grandmother?”
“We’re lame and tired,” you returned, trying to joke but worry was too strong in your heart. “Can you just bring it?”
“Yeah,” she agreed, and hung up. You knew she was already on the way.
“What’s up?” Joe asked.
“Nothing, baby,” you assured him, kissing his cheek. “Go to sleep. I just left a few things at the apartment.”
He muttered something else, but you didn’t really take it in. You got up, put on sweatpants and went downstairs to wait for Christy. The fifteen minute trip felt like hours when she was bringing you word from Nick. You hoped this meant he was ready to take a plea bargain and you wouldn’t have to go to court again.
When she arrived, you opened the door before she could knock. She had the letter and a few other things for you, but you just tossed them on the counter as you turned the kitchen light on. You eagerly ripped the letter open and pulled it out, your eyes frantically scanning the page. Your mouth fell open at what you read.
“What?” Christy asked. “What did he say?”
“What did who say?” Joe added as he came into the room. “What’s going on?”
“Nick wrote me from jail,” you told him.
“Why’d you say it was nothing?” he demanded.
“I wanted you to rest!” you insisted. “Why are you up?”
“I don’t sleep well without you next to me,” he said.
You didn’t have time to admire that sentiment. Christy let out a frustrated groan.
“You two are adorable, but we don’t have time for this!” she cried. “Y/N, what did Nick say?”
They both had curious eyes on you as you read the words on the page once more, cementing their reality in your head.
“He wants to see me,” you told them. “He says he’ll take the plea bargain but only if I come and talk to him. But he doesn’t say what it’s about.”
“This feels slimy,” Christy said. “Like a trap.”
“He can’t hurt me,” you said. “It’s all supervised.”
“Y/N, are seriously considering going?” Joe questioned.
“Of course,” you said. “If I can end this sooner, I want to take the opportunity.”
“But if you can get him in court -” Christy began but you cut her off.
“We don’t know that for sure,” you said. “And the court date sucks because Joe’s gonna be in London for the BoRhap premiere and you’re going to be in Florida with your boyfriend. I’d have to go alone.”
“What if he’s lying?” Joe asked. “I’m with Christy, I think he just wants to try and intimidate you again.”
“Well, so what if it is?” you said. “Then we’ll go about it the original plan. I don’t see what harm it can do.”
“It could cause you more stress, and the doctor said to do things that do the opposite of that,” he reminded you.
“It could also relieve the stress,” you argued. “Because then I won’t be so scared about going alone to court.”
“Why do you want to go so bad?” he questioned.
“All the reasons I’ve just said!” you returned. “Aren’t you listening to me?”
“I just don’t understand why you’re giving him the satisfaction,” he said, heaving a sigh. “This puts all the power in his hands.”
“It’s not about having power, it’s about finishing this,” you said. “I want to move on from him, and the sooner the better. A whole month before the court date.”
“Y/N, you can’t do this,” he said. “I’m gonna have to put my foot down.”
Your mouth fell open and you blinked at him for several moments. “What the fuck did you just say to me?”
“Oh my God, run, Joe,” Christy muttered to him.
“I said I’m putting my foot down,” he repeated. “No.”
“You know if you’re gonna keep speaking to me like that, you might as well get me a chew toy,” you spat.
“I didn’t mean -”
You cut across him. “Oh, didn’t you? Because that’s how you talk to dogs and badly behaved children, but definitely not your girlfriend who is five months pregnant with your child.”
“I’m sorry,” he said, looking down.
“Apology accepted,” you said. “I love you and value your opinion, Joe, and you don’t always have to agree with me. But you will treat me with some goddamn respect.”
“Jesus, Y/N, use a dick,” Christy breathed.
“You’re right,” he conceded, ignoring your friend. “Again, I’m sorry. It’s been a long day, and I just worry about you. That’s all.”
“I don’t want to talk about this anymore,” you said with a sigh. “I’m going to see Nick. And you can come with me or not, but I’m going.”
“I’ll come with you,” he said. “Doesn’t mean I think it’s right, but I don’t want you to go alone.”
When you had everything arranged to go and see Nick, you found yourself more nervous than you thought you’d be. You tried to think of what you could say to him, but Joe and Christy advised waiting until hearing what he had to say before forming any ideas. Not having anything prepared though made you feel anxious.
The jail he was being held in also made you nervous. The officers there were stern and intimidating, but you figured they had to be with the job they had. You would see Nick in a common area that reminded you of a school cafeteria, but a lot scarier. Nick looked rather pathetic is in uniform, and he’d clearly not gotten any drugs either. His recent bout with withdrawal was written all over his face.
Joe held your hand tightly as you took a deep breath. Nick would also now know that you were pregnant. You’d been careful during the first court date to wear loose clothes and hide your bump. It helped that he hadn’t looked very hard at you. You saw his eyes go wide when he noticed it now. You placed your hand on your bump as you took a seat across from him. Joe remained standing, keeping a hand on your shoulder as he glowered at Nick.
“So,” you said. “What do you want to say?”
“First of all, I want to say I’m sorry, Y/N,” he began. “I’m really sorry for all the pain I’ve caused you.”
“Okay,” you said, your voice stony. “You tried to say that before you broke my phone and wrecked my apartment. You’re gonna have to do better, Nick.”
“I don’t know what came over me there,” he said.
“I do,” you remarked.
“Please, let me finish,” he said, and you got quiet. “I don’t know what came over me. I truly didn’t go there with the intention of hurting you or begging for you back. I went there to ask you for money, and I lied to try and get it from you, I know. I don’t know why you having a boyfriend upset me so much.”
“Did you think there was still hope for us?” you asked.
He looked down at his hands. “Maybe a little. I always thought if I got clean...you might...”
“Forgive you for selling naked photos of me?” you wondered in disbelief. “How could I ever get past that?”
“You’re right, it was stupid,” he admitted. “But I couldn’t help but hold out hope, y’know?”
“This is getting off track,” you said. “Is there anything else you wanted?”
“I just want to know that you forgive me,” he told you. “It’s the only way I’ll be able to face a year in prison.”
You completely hardened as you glared at him. “You wanna know what I faced because of what you did? I was a prisoner in my own head, fearing every fucking camera I came into contact with. I was afraid for my job, for my reputation. I lost friends and family. It affected my relationship with Joe. And then you sent them to him and his friends and God knows who else! I had to start over all the progress I’d made on moving past it! And you want my forgiveness so that you can go to prison and feel okay?”
He sputtered for words.
“I forgive you, Nick,” you said, and he looked at you, wide-eyed. “But not for your sake. I’m forgiving you so I can move on with my own life and focus on this.” You placed your hand on your belly again. “He’s my life now. I’m looking forward, because I can’t look at you anymore.”
Tears welled up in your eyes and your head started to pound. You winced with pain and Joe knelt closer to you.
“You okay?” he asked.
You nodded. “I think so. I’m ready to go now.”
You both looked at Nick and then you spoke again. “Is there anything else? Are you ready to take the plea deal?”
“Yeah,” he said simply. “Just one more thing.”
You looked expectantly at him. He nodded toward your baby bump.
“If I had never gotten into the drugs, do you think that could have been us?”
“No,” you said simply. “It was always going to be me and Joe.”
He nodded, resigned, and you told the guard you were ready. You could feel Nick’s eyes on you as you left, willing you to turn around for one last meaningful look, but you didn’t give it to him. You were ending this on your terms. And that meant turning your back to him forever and pressing on with Joe and your son.
When you exited the prison, you felt so free. Joe looked hard at you. You’d gotten a little emotional inside, but that was gone now. Relief washed over you like a wave.
“Are you sure you’re alright?” he wondered.
“Yeah,” you said, taking his hand as you made your back to your car. You stopped him before you got in, turning him to face you.
“I meant what I said in there,” you said. “It’s me and you now, okay? And little Joey. I’m not worried about anyone from the past. Not when I’ve got you two.”
He kissed you, his hands coming up to cradle your face as his lips claimed yours. This kiss sealed it.
“No more looking back,” he agreed. “I love you, Y/N. I’m sorry I gave you a hard time about this.”
“I love you too,” you said. “And don’t worry about it. I understand why, and it makes me love you even more. You still supported me through it. Thank you, Joe.”
“You feel good about everything?” he asked.
“I do,” you assured him. “It feels like closure.”
He pulled you into a hug. “Good.”
You broke away and you both climbed into the car.
“You know what this means?” you said eagerly as he started to drive back to the house.
“No, what?” he wondered.
“We can just be excited about the premiere of Bohemian Rhapsody!” you squealed. “Yay!”
He laughed. “And then Joey’s gonna get here!”
“I know!” you cried. “We’ve got so much to look forward to!”

So it’s the holiday season, which in a lot of households means presents. You know who has more merch than almost any other Flash villain (1. being Reverse Flash as of my last count)? Captain Cold!
Have a Len lover in your life? Need to give your family gift ideas? Peep this list, y’all!
I used to own...basically everything with Len on it. I had the largest Flash collection in the southern US until about 3 years ago, when I sold the vast majority of it, and gave away even more. These reviews come from in-hand experience. Let’s start with the Original Lad:
DC Direct Captain Cold
Tumblr media
Holy macaroni, was this figure terrible. Yes it was comic-accurate at the time, but you could not pose it, you could not keep it standing, and the face when you removed the glasses? Nightmare fuel. Still, it was a figure from 2001, and they really were doing their best, so I’d have to rate this guy a 2 out of 5.
These next two came out around roughly the same time, but could not be more different in quality. First up, DC Direct Justice Captain Cold
Tumblr media
Strictly speaking, this figure was beautiful. Yeah it was in the hyper-realistic style of Alex Ross, who I’ve never been a fan of, but it was toned down in a way that made it less uncanny valley. The figure had stubble painted on, and if you removed the hood (which you technically could but shouldn’t), he had hair under there! But still, this was a DC Direct figure from 2008, so it had all the same flaws that a figure from that time period tended to have: absolutely a bitch to pose, hard to keep upright without the base (I let mine lean against the wall whenever I needed the base for even more precarious figures), joints prone to snapping if you worked him too hard. Still, by far my favorite of the DC Direct/Collectibles Len figures, if not my favorite full-size figure. 4.5 of 5.
Meanwhile in big box stores across the nation, DC Universe Classics was releasing their best wave yet, wave 7. Man, I had that whole thing aside from Aquaman; Big Barda, Flash, Kid Flash, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, and of course, Captain Cold
Tumblr media
This is the ugliest Len figure. Hands down, the least visually appealing. Which is a shame, because it’s also one of the best! Completely comic accurate until you hit the upper torso/head area, a ridiculous amount of articulation, with the single best cold gun of any of these figures...but jfc that expression. The weird poncho/hood always bothered me too, because while it was almost comic accurate, something just threw it off the track and made it look more ridiculous than cool. 3.5 out of 5.
After the New 52 hit, DC Collectibles released 2 Captain Cold figures in rapid succession, one that was packaged alone, and one that came as part of a 7-figure set
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Can you spot the differences? There’s just one: the Len from the 7-figure set is in a dark blue suit, and doesn’t come with the ice mace and ice dagger. Like all DC Direct figures before them, these DC Collectibles figures are pretty to look at, but offer very little in the way of articulation. They could be hard to keep upright, which was annoying, as neither came with a stand, and do not try to take off the hood. Nothing under there. Still, they were very pretty depictions of a popular redesign, so I feel alright giving these guys a 3 of 5.
DC Collectibles spat out a final Len figure for the CWverse line back in 2015
Tumblr media
As a big fan of Wentworth Miller and his face, I feel this figure could have been better. I mean, I’ve seen Arrowverse figures that are spot on, and this one just is not. Maybe it’s because the goggles obscure a good portion of the face, I don’t know. That being said, I love this figure, and it’s actually one I re-bought at a convention recently, along with the Heatwave figure from the same line, that hadn’t been released when I’d started selling off all of my toys. The costume is show-accurate, the figure comes with an extra set of hands, and the gun is just really cool. This is a solid 4 of 5 figure.
These next toys aren’t action figures per say, as they don’t do much in the way of action, but they’re cute and I like them, for the most part.
Funko took over the market and the world back in 2010 when it first introduced the Pop Vinyl figures, but it took a hit TV show to get Flash villains other than the Reverse Flash into production. There are 3 Captain Cold Funko products currently out, the two Pop Vinyls and a Re-Action figure
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, I love the first Pop Vinyl. The round, lifeless black eyes of the Pops have freaked me out for a long time, but with Len in his sweet goggles, this Pop is perfect for me. I actually have him on a shelf in my closet. The variant...look, I like how they included the actual real-life hairline Wentworth Miller has, but those creepy eyes just kill it for me. The Re-Action figure, by the way, is garbage. They’re supposed to be based on the lines of toys that came out back in the 80s, but all that means to me is little to no articulation, weird molds that look nothing like the character they’re supposed to be, and few if any accessories. Why is he wearing a tie??? Just. The worst. 5 of 5 for Pop 1, 3 of 5 for Pop 2, and 1 of 5 for the Re-Action figure.
There are a bunch of figures that came out before Funko’s reign that have little to no articulation, and here they are:
Action League Citizen Cold, from the Batman: The Brave and the Bold line
Tumblr media
I love a good boy??? 5 of 5, absolutely perfect. No you can’t pose him, but he already comes in a dynamic, interesting pose. This is my absolute favorite of all the non-poseable figures, and I miss mine all the time.
Imaginext, a line of toys for very young superhero fans, made a New 52 Captain Cold a few years back
Tumblr media
Honestly, Imaginext toys are ridiculous, and I love every single one of them. They’re great toys for little kids, and yeah, Len is completely bald underneath that hoodie and ice gun backpack, but he has a snowball cannon to compensate with, so who’s the real loser?! 5 of 5, beautiful.
Did you kno w that back in 2011, McDonalds put out a line of Happy Meal Young Justice toys featuring Captain Cold??? Did you want to know? Too bad, you know now.
Tumblr media
My dad’s dog chewed up his ice projectile, rendering the actual immobile figure completely useless...but I still really like it??? Like, it’s a toy that came with food that I sweet-talked the counter guy into giving me. It’s a worthless little nothing of a toy...but I still like it. 3 of 5.
Pocket Heroes were a weird little line of 3-inch figures that came in two-packs. One of those packs contained Flash and Captain Cold
Tumblr media
You can basically only move their arms and legs, and while this figure comes with a cold gun and a remarkably ripped set of abs and pecs, the design never really appealed to me. 2.5 out of 5.
I collected MiniMates once upon a time. 2.5 inch figures that were basically fancy LEGOs? Deal me in! ViniMates are uh. Not that.
Tumblr media
ViniMates are 6-inch figures and I Do Not Like Them. Being made of vinyl makes them almost completely free of articulation, so the post you get them in is the one they stay in. Also, this one is based on the show-interpretation of Len and it seems to be smoldering at me. Don’t like that. 1 out of 5.
On the other end of the vinyl spectrum, the Mini-Mezitz line from Mezco is simply delightful.
Tumblr media
Mini-Mezitz were 2-inch figures with articulation in their arms, legs, and neck joints. I love mine, and they have been hanging out on the top of my bookcase for like 7 years now. 4 out of 5, absolutely weird-dorable.
Eaglemoss once put my blog on the front page of their website without telling me, back when I was actively snapping pictures of my Flash collection. The Eaglemoss lead figures, once you get past the fact that yes, these dudes are made of painted lead so maybe handle with care, are a good staple in any collection. Captain Cold got two
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both Eaglemoss figures came with information booklets about Captain Cold, though the chess piece New 52 version focused almost solely on his New 52 history. They’re both very detailed, and I really like them. 3.5 out of 5.
I never watched Thomas the Tank Engine as a kid...but I saw this weirdass thing in a HomeGoods one day and just kinda. Stopped and stared.
Tumblr media
He’s a train. Len is a train now. Don’t like it. 1 out of 5.
So there’s this company called Kotobukiya. They’re most famous for their bishoujo statues, but they make guys too. I had the Flash Kotobukiya statue, back in the day. I was not collecting Flash stuff when they made a Captain Cold one.
Tumblr media
I’m actually apparently getting this as a gift from my boyfriend for Hanukkah. He finally got access to my wishlist. This statue is based on the Francis Manapul New 52 redesign, and it is what we call Big Sexy. Frankly, I give it a 5 out of 5.
No offense to Wentworth Miller, but my favorite Captain Cold TV appearance is always going to be his role in the JLU episode, Flash and Substance.
Tumblr media
The JLU figures were all godawful, but hell if we as a fandom didn’t gobble them up back in the day. I had allthe available Rogues, Len, Heatwave, Captain Boomerang, Weather Wizard, “Justice Lords Flash” (who was really just Reverse Flash, let’s be real), Mirror Master...it’s the most complete set of Rogues you can get, actually. But they were terrible figures; the Dorito-like shape of the shoulder to waist ratio combined with the narrow feet of the figure guaranteed that these toys would not stay upright without a stand. They had no articulation, and most came without weapons. But you could get three-packs of them in Target for like $12, and they were designed with children in mind, so. 3.5 out of 5, because frankly, the Timmverse designs will always tug at my nostalgia strings.
Captain Cold is available in two official LEGO forms
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first is from the Mighty Macros line, and features Len vs the Flash in a racecar vs snowmobile race. It’s very cute and easy to build. The second is the more challenging Gorilla Grodd Goes Bananas set, which also includes Flash, Grodd, and strangely enough, Batman and Wonder Woman. I never owned that set, and it’s pretty hard to find these days, regularly running $80 and up. Both sets are a 5 out of 5, though, because LEGO does not mess around when it comes to quality fun.
I saved my favorites for last. In the 70s, there was a line of toys called MEGOs, which were plastic-bodied toys with cloth suits. Mattel, and later the Figures Toy Company, would both do their own versions of Captain Cold
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first version, by Mattel, is amazing. Mine is literally sitting next to me as I type this. I took him to Universal with me when I won a trip to Halloween Horror Nights back in 2015, I take him to the movies with me when I don’t have anyone else to go with, he’s my little buddy. My dad’s dog, again, chewed his left arm completely off at one point, but I don’t care. I love him. As for the Figures Toys version, I actually won a fairly cheap auction for him earlier this week, so we shall see! I don’t know if I like how he has the whole “Super Friends hypothermia Len” look going on, but I do like how his costume isn’t just cheap, tearable vinyl. We shall see what’s under that hood soon. I give the Mattel one a 5 out of 5 for the years of joy he’s given me. The Figures Toys one is pending, but I’m gonna give a tentative 4 out of 5, because it really does look nice.
You could get Len in other forms, like as a game piece in the Heroclix and Dice Masters games, as a paintable figure for a Batman tabletop roleplaying game, as trading cards, as a set of guitar picks, as a card holder, as a very hard to find but still lovely statue from DC Direct, in official pin form from Funko and Fansets, on an old 7-Eleven cup, and of course, in the pages of the comics...but I’ve always liked toys, so that’s what I decided to go over. Hope y’all enjoyed this, and maybe got some ideas for your own collections.

C F I M S T Y :) (I'm sorry....) ❤️
Never apologise for responding to these memes :P And oh, one of them’s already done, so that’s ONE less... :P
C: What character do you identify with most?
Lmao that’s a really good question!! It’s funny... I think many of us went through a similar process here, of liking Hamilton and relating to him, but then also encountering Laurens and really relating to him? But I think that’s because Hamilton is a specific kind of person, that a lot of the time it’s less relating to him outright and more... looking to him as an example? Both good and bad. Being enthralled by him and wanting to learn from him and figure out how to take on those qualities of passion and ambition and hard work without also gaining the many negative qualities. And I think that’s part of what interested John about Alex as well - John had so much tendency to self-doubt, and of course there was the whole issue of what he would study and how his dad basically forced him into law, but then there’s Alex who is so sure of what he’s going to do and how he’s going to do it...
But ramble aside: I identify a lot with Laurens like emotionally? And tend to project my insecurities and worries onto him. And also since I am also a white person from a wealthy family I try to kinda... be aware of that through him, as a way to work through what it’s easy to forget in my position and how I need to do better. So I guess I relate to him morally, as well. But... I first did get into this fandom because I saw something in Hamilton that I almost never saw in any other characters. Like, I almost never really relate to characters? There isn’t any character at all I can point to and say ‘yep, they’re just like me’? And Hamilton spoke to me in a bunch of ways I didn’t think I’d ever find. But like I said, it’s also partially a lesson thing - he taught me that I could be the way I was and still work and achieve things and be useful and do good, but it was also kind of a ‘yeah you can do better in THESE ways though, wow’ kind of thing. So though I don’t write from his POV much for various reasons, I definitely relate to him in some really important ways as well.
And uh, beyond this fandom... I love Leslie Knope but I’m more like Ben Wyatt, and there’s a whole bunch of moe anime girls that I relate way too much to (like Suou from Flowers and Hanamaru from Love Live! and oh god, Tsukimi from Princess Jellyfish for sure...)
F: Care to share a favorite hurt/comfort fic?
Hmmmmm! :O There are a lot of good ones by Madtom and Publius in their whole verse! Also, going through my fic tag... wow this one by ciceroprofacto is SO GOOD (it’s not like overtly hurt/comfort but the overtone is definitely there in the end).
And beyond this fandom... I was into Supernatural right before this and lmao, canon-verse Dean/Castiel is like, inherently hurt/comfort :P And yet my favourite is probably this human AU one where Dean is a paraplegic and Cas is a guy who comes in to hang out and talk with people at the care facility and it’s written so so sensitively and avoids a lot of the gross ableist tropes that are so common in this type of fic because it’s written by someone who actually knows their stuff a lot and it’s REALLY GOOD and great!!
(Also just in general I tend to bookmark fic on AO3 when I like them, and I read for a pretty broad array of fandoms, so if you’re looking for recs you might find some you like there!)
I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?
MAN like I really have a thing for like... stuff to do with intimacy? Specifically, kinda mismatched or forced intimacy or whatever. Like the classic ‘there’s only one bed’ thing, where two characters who are just friends (or, like ‘’just friends’’) suddenly have to share a bed together, or the even MORE classic pretend lovers thing, where two friends have to pretend to be a couple and it’s all awkward and uncomfortable and they start feeling it FOR REAL but then it’s like nooo they’re only pretending, we have to act like we’re so close but we’re not but I wish we were...! MAN it’s so great!! Like IDK there’s just something about characters ending up in this position and it’s awkward but they end up learning so much about each other and then falling for each other and that just makes it even worse... Love it :’)
Or like, I looove like sexual tension and friendships that tip just a bit over too much and that steady slow burn as they get closer and closer and they’re SO CLOSE to getting together but NOT QUITE and they’re so much PINING and TOUCHING and ahhhh!!!!
Also just, projecting as much of myself and various identities and stuff onto characters as possible :P
M: Got any premises on the back burner that you'd care to share?
S-so many... orz hmmMMM here’s a couple!
A modern day AU Hamburrger thing where they dated in college and now they’re both politicians and it comes out and Ham just kinda admits to it because what does he care and now Burr is just *screaming internally* at all times because he actually wanted to keep every tiny bit of his private life out of the public sphere, thanks?
Another Hamburrger thing where Ham is just trying to have a fun sexy time but Burr keeps unintentionally prodding at Ham’s really painful memories and stuff and it all just falls apart
One that I’ll almost certainly never write but: Lams AU assuming Ham dies in 1804 (which I don’t think he would but whatever) and Alex Jr is mourning but it’s difficult at home because he and Eliza never got along that well so he ends up staying over with Laurens instead and somehow they get to talking and finding ways to mourn together and Eliza as well and it’s all awkward and sad but they’re figuring it out eventually somehow
Various other Lams AU things, including: a kind of day in the life thing featuring domesticity and more Ham and Frances interaction, Laurens first moving into the city next to Ham and a LOT of domesticity and also porn?, Ned Stephens showing up and effectively doing the ‘if you hurt him I’ll kill you’ to Laurens, Alex and Eliza talking about the whole ‘Im cheating on you with a man’ thing where they are both irrevocably on different pages and will never agree but at least start to understand each other a little better
John and Francis meeting up during the war. Which sounds like a perfectly simple premise which I totally don’t need to research at all before I start writing it in my head!!!
Also I couldn’t write it myself because I don’t know nearly enough but I’d be really curious to see a Lams fic set in modern times, but like, where they’re both still in the military? Obviously such a fic would have to engage with the whole issue of the American military and all but like, we already have to engage with slavery as a thing, soooo it’s hardly foreign territory (no pun intended).
S: Any fandom tropes you can't resist?
Already covered part of that :P I love those dumb plots that basically revolve around ‘two characters are stuck together! How do they react?’ because there are just so many ways they can go depending on the characters and that’s really interesting!!
I also really love domestic fic including kid fic, historical AUs, interesting formats (like epistolary etc.), Outsider POV, and of course slow burn!
I quite like fandom tropes in general, to the extent that people really do, like... cross-reference the pairing and characters to the trope and write it specifically for them, and not just some Generic Pretend Couple Fic and change the names? I just really like seeing all the subtle differences between different interpretations of the same characters, when it’s done well!
T: Any fandom tropes you can't stand?
Hoo boy :) Well first up, I’m not into D/s, so any kind of A/b/o and slavefic and stuff I just walk right past. And as I implied above, when I get into a pairing, I really like to get into like... what makes that pairing special and unique and different? So I really dislike any stuff which cleaves towards making them more generic, like ‘jock!{character}/nerd!{character}’ type fic, which usually just ends up exactly the same as any other jock/nerd fic. (Also maybe it’s just cause I’m Aussie but we...didn’t ever actually have strict groupings like that in high school? So those fic in particular are just. Bizarre to me.)
Related, I tend not to like high school/college/coffee shop AUs because they’re usually like really overtly ‘hey this is what it is like for people here!! haha doesn’t it reflect your time in college really well? this is just what things are like for me!!’ and they are...usually not relatable to me. At all. Because my experiences are quite weird;;; So I just. don’t enjoy reading them because it makes me feel bad lol.
And uhhhh I really dislike fic where people go hard on the sarcasm and stuff? Like it mostly just ends up making them sound like assholes. I admit I’m particularly sensitive to this but I really, really hate people who mock and insult other people for just being themselves and doing what they want and 90% of snarky seems to be about that, especially when done by inexperienced writers. But even experienced writers do this sometimes when they get this idea that banter is good writing 100% of the time or that it’s too ‘’’simple’’’ just to write a character being like... nice? Or genuine? (Like holy shit I got soooo damn sick of snarky!Castiel like yeah great he is sarcastic OCCASIONALLY in canon, he’s not a grumpy asshole 24/7, where do people get this??? But it’s also something that comes up a lot in Hamilton musical fic and. yeah.)
Aaaand that’s probably enough lmao thanks for asking again!!! :D

Hcs about the Shepard gang? Like what the other members are like
What I find so surprising is that I’ve never gotten this question before.
So I kind of just made these up and I like them somewhat. I definitely haven’t thought about this enough for these to be canon for me, though.
I’m canon on Marshall and Nick, but that’s all.
Marshall — He’s a very close friend of Tim’s. — 18 and has known Tim since freshman year.— Middle class, grew up with only a mother.— Independent and occasionally helps Tim.— He’s in the gang as more of a friend but works with Tim sometimes. — Is actually really cute and hardworking.— Nearly black hair, fair skinned and has some freckles. — Almost fully English so has many of those common characteristics. — Very similar to Tim but more of a good guy tbh.
Christopher— Curly light gold hair and cocky. — Very strange kid, tbh. — 16. — He’s like tough like a greaser but abstract and artistic like a hippie.— Mod but a greaser at the same time???— Hangs out with Socs and literally whoever he wants; extremely popular and vibrant. — Almost like a Bob mixed with Soda? — Works for Tim on the down low and kind of definitely wants to fuck him. — Ngl Tim is this boy’s idol, which doesn’t really make sense at all. — Has a pretty twin named Chloe.
Vinny — 17 and Italian as fucking hell. — Like, speaks Italian. — Is trying to grow his hair out. — It’s dark and straight, super sexy. — He’s from the city. — Not too smart but not dumb.— Motorcycle enthusiast and wild. — He will do ANYTHING.— Charismatic and so sarcastic but incredibly funny. — Is always slightly drunk because everyday is just another day to chill. — People always want to be around him, he’s got a great personality.
Nick— 17 turning 18 very soon.— Trying to make money for college.— Pretty good kid, grew up in Tulsa, everyone knows him. — Introverted and always has cigarettes with him. — Is always faintly there; everyone knows him but it’s like he disappears sometimes. — Plain-colored tees and jeans everyday. — Almost a redhead, but it’s like a fawn color.— Little boy haircut and curly. — Does some bad things but wants to be good.— Him, Marshall, and Tim are a little trio but it’s not public like shut up it’s an unspoken secret
Francis— An actual redhead. — But doesn’t have any freckles really? — Always tanned and it looks good ngl. — A fucking psycho.— He will do anything and everything.— Tim loves that about him ofc.— Big drug dealer. — Incredibly stupid, not literally, but like seriously he tried to make a trampoline so he could jump off a roof. — Throws epic parties (I hate the word epic I’m) — His family has money.— Two generations off from Ireland and overwhelmingly PROUD. — Has 7 siblings.— Picture little Irish redhead rugrats running around trying to stab each other with rocks. — They’re extremely freckled.— Francis just got lucky, I guess.
Earl— A very newcomer.— Not white (how surprised are ya??) — Probably not even in the book time, I’m talking afterwards. — Just turned 16. — Kind of like a Johnny, but not so sentimental and not scarred for life.— Horrible home life, though. — His parents aren’t too bad but they’re very poor and he has two younger toddler sisters. — So committed to them it’s sweet. — Fucking chill as hell. — Smokes so much weed and has the biggest afro. — Fantastically woke. — Everyone keeps him around because he’s so chill and can sneak into places very easily and stealthily. — Is never surprised by anything.— “yeah” “yeah” “yeaaah” “yea” — “brother” — Actually belongs in the ‘70s.— Was made for the '70s.
This was more like their kind of circle, but Tim definitely has other boys that do his dirty work and stuff. Less attractive people, bad dudes. Basically.

Friday Countdown: Bishop Amat needs win in worst way; South Hills-West Covina battle for Cameron
Arroyo-Schurr preview: There’s no question about it, according to Arroyo High School football coach Jim Singiser. A lot can change in 10 months. The last time Singiser’s Knights saw Schurr, they were able to pull away for a 42-28 win in the second round of the playoffs last November. But when the two teams meet again on Friday in a key nonleague game, Singiser is expecting a much, much better opponent.
youtube
Aram’s featured previews Bishop Amat (0-2) at JSerra (2-0), 7 p.m.: The Lancers take on their second Trinity League opponent in three weeks. The first one didn’t go too well, but that was against national champion in-the-making Mater Dei. Amat then hit the road to Chicago last week where it managed just six points in a 13-6 loss to Loyola Academy. This road trip won’t be as bad, but it is a road trip. Do the Lancers have their sea legs back enough to to get what would be a sexy win for the resume? The offense better be better.
youtube
Glendora (1-1) at Charter Oak (2-0), 7 p.m.: Glendora is still in search of some offensive threats in addition to QB Bryce Wooldridge. The Tartans mustered only a touchdown in last week’s loss to Damien and figure to have an even harder time against Charter Oak’s defense on Friday. Once the Chargers got rolling last week, Colony was no match. Glendora better try and keep the pace of this game slow. Won’t be easy because the Chargers’ defense know who it has to stop and won’t worry about much else.
Los Altos (2-0) at St. Paul (1-1), 7 p.m.: The Conquerors leave Hacienda Heights for the first time this season and what they’re walking into is an angry den of Swordsmen, who lost last week against Montebello. When you’re St. Paul, that’s never supposed to happen. Los Altos has been heavily favored in both of its games this season and took care of business in both. The Conquerors have a lot of new faces but appear talented yet again. St. Paul cannot afford another loss to a public school that, in theory, it should be favored to beat.
South Hills (2-0) at West Covina (0-2), 7 p.m.: The Bulldogs have managed just 14 points in eight quarters of action this season. That’s got to change, and quick, before the season gets away from them. The Huskies won’t be very accommodating, though, as second-year head coach Matt Bechtel is looking to cross becoming king of Cameron Avenue off his list. South Hills hasn’t won a game in this series since 2013 and Bechtel figures to take no prisoners on Friday making sure that changes.
youtube
Walnut (1-1) at South El Monte (2-0), 7 p.m.: The Mustangs winning The Branding Iron game over rival Diamond Bar cannot be understated. Because, in theory, if you’re able to beat Diamond Bar, then South El Monte should be no problem. Well, nothing can be taken for granted with Walnut just yet. South El Monte has run over its first two opponents, but on Friday they play a team with a pulse. Standout Eagles running back Sal Tovar is going to have to run wild in this one. No more of this under 20 carries stuff.
El Monte (1-1) at San Marino (1-1), 7 p.m.: This one is interesting in the sense that San Marino will be going up against the kind of offense it ran last season while employing the kind of offense that El Monte ran last season. Sorta. Anyway, the Titans are back to a fun-and-gun team, it seems, and they posted a 2015-esque showing on offense last week in Compton. El Monte’s defense won’t be able to offer much resistance, but that’s okay because the Lions’ offense is going to try and keep the ball for half-a-quarter at a time.
South Pasadena (1-1) at Duarte (1-1), 7 p.m.: The Tigers didn’t look half bad in last week’s loss to Santa Clarita Christian. It’s safe to say new/old head coach Jeff Chi knows what he’s doing, even if the roster is on the small size. Duarte has had both ends of the spectrum this season, either winning by 30-something in a shutout, or being shut out by 30-something in a loss. The Falcons have the athleticism edge, but so did Rosemead against South Pas and look how that turned out.
Mission Viejo (2-0) at La Habra (1-1), 7 p.m.: Last week was more like it for the Highlanders, who routed Tesoro to get their first win of the season and erase the bad taste from Week 0’s stinging defeat against Upland. Just where does all that get them against a Diablos squad that could be every bit as good as Upland was, or vulnerable enough for La Habra to throw a scare into the Orange County hierarchy. The La Habra defense had better be on its best behavior as Mission Viejo has 80 points in eight quarters of action.
St. Francis (1-0) at Pasadena (0-2), 7 p.m.: The thinking was that Pasadena played well enough in Week 0 at Buena Park that Maranatha last week would be no problem. Instead, tiny Maranatha knocked off big old Pasadena. If the Bulldogs can’t handle the type of private school team that Maranatha is, then what’s going to happen to them against St. Francis? Knights fans had to love seeing junior QB Darius Perrantes fire six touchdown passes in his debut.
Friday’s games and Robledo’s predictions Alhambra at Temple City — TEMPLE CITY Azusa at Maranatha — MARANATHA Bassett at Rowland — ROWLAND Bishop Amat at JSerra — JSERRA Bosco Tech vs. Glenn at Excelsior Adult School — BOSCO TECH Cantwell-Sacred Heart at Salesian — SALESIAN Covina at Diamond Bar — COVINA Damien at Claremont — DAMIEN Diamond Ranch at Ayala — DIAMOND RANCH El Monte at San Marino — SAN MARINO Ganesha at Jurupa Valley — JURUPA VALLEY Garey vs. Workman at Los Altos — GAREY Glendora at Charter Oak — CHARTER OAK Hart at Arcadia — HART La Canada at Kaiser — KAISER La Mirada vs. Mater Dei at Santa Ana Stadium — MATER DEI La Serna vs. Mira Costa at California — MIRA COSTA Los Altos at St. Paul, 7:30 p.m. — LOS ALTOS Marshall at San Gabriel — SAN GABRIEL Mission Viejo at La Habra — MISSION VIEJO Monrovia at Don Lugo — DON LUGO Mountain View vs. Gladstone at Citrus College — MOUNTAIN VIEW Nogales at Wilson — NOGALES Pasadena Poly at Brentwood, 3 p.m. — BRENTWOOD Riverside Poly at Bonita — BONITA Pomona at El Rancho — EL RANCHO Rio Hondo Prep at California Military Institute — RH PREP Saddleback Valley Christian vs. Baldwin Park at Trabuco Hills — BPARK Santa Fe vs. Northview at Covina District Field — NORTHVIEW Schurr at Arroyo — SCHURR Sierra Vista at Gabrielino — GABRIELINO South Hills at West Covina — SOUTH HILLS South Pasadena at Duarte — SOUTH PAS Southlands Christian at Western Christian – WC St. Francis at Pasadena — ST.
