Robert Reich at Substack:
Friends, Elon Musk and entrepreneur and investor David Sacks reportedly held a secret billionaire dinner party in Hollywood last month. Its purpose: to defeat Joe Biden and reinstall Donald Trump in the White House. The guest list included Peter Thiel, Rupert Murdoch, Michael Milken, Travis Kalanick, and Steven Mnuchin, Trump’s Treasury secretary.
Meanwhile, Musk is turning up the volume and frequency of his anti-Biden harangues on his X platform. According to an analysis by the New York Times, Musk has posted about President Biden at least seven times a month, on average, this year. He has criticized Biden on issues ranging from Biden's age to his policies on heath and immigration, calling Biden "a tragic front for a far left political machine.” The Times analysis showed that over the same period of time, Musk has posted more than 20 times in favor of Trump, claiming that the criminal cases Trump now faces are the result of media and prosecutorial bias. This is no small matter. Musk has 184 million followers on X, and because he owns the platform he’s able to manipulate the algorithm to maximize the number of people who see his posts.
No other leader of a social media firm has gone as far as Musk in supporting authoritarian leaders around the world. In addition to Trump, Musk has used his platform in support of India's Narendra Modi, Argentina's Javier Milei, and Brazil's Jair Bolsonaro. Some of this helps Musk’s business interests. In India, he has secured lower import tariffs for Tesla vehicles. In Brazil, he has opened a major new market for Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service. In Argentina, he has solidified access to lithium, the mineral most crucial to Tesla’s batteries. Musk has slammed Biden for his decisions on electric vehicle promotion and subsidies, most of which have favored unionized U.S. auto manufacturers. Musk and his Tesla are viciously anti-union. But something deeper is going on. Musk, Thiel, Murdoch, and their cronies are backing a movement against democracy. Peter Thiel, the billionaire tech financier, has written, “I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible.”
@Robert Reich nails it with this piece: Oligarchs are joining up with the anti-democracy MAGA movement to look out for themselves and aid the collapse of freedom.

Blog About the advertisements during the pandemic
This advertisement was made by a telecommunication company explicitly, the Globe Philippines, and was aired during the pandemic on April 17, 2020. This ad is about encouraging everyone to distance themselves from other people, even their parents, families, and loved ones that are not currently on their side. It serves as a reminder for them to stay at home to prevent the COVID-19 virus from spreading and avoid being affected. Thus, as an alternative, the corporation offers telecommunication services for individuals to stay connected with their friends and families through chatting and video calling on any social media platform. This ad was intended for the people who live in the Philippines, particularly fellow Filipinos. The services promoted in this particular field of advertisement are a great idea, especially in the pandemic setup. People can do a lot of things just by having access to the internet. According to McClain et al. (2021), 90 percent of adults agreed that the Internet had become essential for them in the midst of the pandemic. Aside from assisting in preserving relationships, some individuals also acquired hobbies and skills. On the other hand, the ad itself has good quality, especially in delivering its tag lines. Hence, it does not contain any media manipulation as it hooks the audience's attention.
As one of the target viewers, I get caught by one of their tag lines at the end of the advertisement, saying, “ Pero dyan ka muna, at dito muna ako. Magkalayo, kasi close tayo”. I immediately understood the meaning behind those words, especially when I first heard them. Ever since the pandemic started, people have been restricted from leaving out of their houses, especially if it is not necessary or there is nothing important things to do except for buying grocery foods but only for a limited time. In relation to this, those lines were meant to convey an awareness that following the health and safety protocols is for everyone’s good.

While browsing the internet, I came across this unique advertisement that was created by a famous technology company called Uber. It was founded on March 2009 by Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp. Uber offers different services, such as ride-hailing and food delivery (Tillman, 2016). This ad was posted on youtube on April 9, 2020, and has 491,498 views. It showed some clips of families who are trying to have their ways of communicating with their loved ones inside and outside of their homes. These are enjoying their quality time by playing with their babies, exercising, and checking up with neighbors by showing a letter in the windows. This advertisement was all about expressing gratitude for not using their services at the time pandemic. It is also a form of reminding everyone to avoid using services or anything that will allow them to have exposure or contact with others. The target audience was everyone who was previously using Uber. Based on the comments on the ad, the users were shocked and amazed at the same time. One of them stated that the company is very bold and considerate due to its way of advertising. People would not be able to determine if it is an ad or just a way of reminding them. On the other hand, since it has the message “ Thank you for not riding with us,” still it is necessarily good for them. Moreover, it only represented pure clips of families’ activities inside homes and did not contain storylines that may form a media manipulation.
As one of the viewers, it got my attention due to their unique advertising, specifically the tag lines they used. It seems they have two goals, and they achieve both of them. On the other hand, watching the advertisement had me reminiscing about my pandemic days, specifically wherein I was stuck and had nothing to do. However, I have realized what the ad showed is what I did on those days. I have built a strong relationship with my parents, especially with my closest friends, considering that it was also one of the toughest times I had in my entire life.

Example of Crisis Management
The process of identifying, assessing, comprehending, and dealing with a problematic issue is known as crisis management.
External causes, such as a natural disaster, a security breach, or false rumours that harm an organization's brand, can all contribute to a crisis.
Companies should build a comprehensive crisis management plan to respond to these situations, regardless of the reason. This will help to safeguard the company's reputation and personnel.
Johnson & Johnson's approach to the Tylenol issue in 1982 has become a model for how a firm may get it right amid a crisis. Seven people were poisoned after eating cyanide-laced Tylenol capsules, the company's most popular product.
Unlike many other corporations at the time, J&J prioritized consumer safety before financial considerations. The corporation collaborated with police to investigate the mystery and offered a reward for any information leading to the culprits of the crime.
The issue also aided the corporation by increasing public trust in the product. Customers who had questioned the safety of over-the-counter medications began to use them again, and Tylenol's market share surged.
Whether you're waiting for a taxi or a bus, every clock ticktock matters. That's why the smartphone app Uber devised the concept of a 'uber' service to eliminate the pain of queuing and simplify travel.
But, cab firms and government officials have criticized the company's controversial business model, which charges drivers extra for peak-hours rides. It also incentivizes fares to climb at peak demand periods, such as New Year's Eve, which has sparked customer outrage.
Employees have also accused the corporation of sexual harassment. And CEO Travis Kalanick was filmed berating a driver.
United Airlines had a big public relations crisis in April 2017 when video evidence of security officials violently removing a passenger surfaced. During the incident, Dr David Dao, 69, was taken from his seat and bloodied by security agents.
The airline made a series of tweets and remarks in the hours following the tragedy. Instead of apologizing, they reiterated their previous statement, calling the passenger "disruptive and confrontational." This is a textbook case of poor crisis management.
P&G has a long history of adapting to weather interruptions by utilizing its IWS culture. It was critical in the company's successful navigation of COVID-19, which affected every plant worldwide.
In Egypt, for example, the corporation had to make decisions about how to keep its operations operational and its employees safe while coping with political unrest and violence.
The company's reaction was textbook crisis management. It acted fast and responsibly, gaining widespread support through lighter humour.
When Procter & Gamble faced a weird internet challenge in which teens filmed themselves eating Tide Pods, they knew they had to act immediately to defend their brand. They also ensured that they were completely honest about the facts and not at fault. This was a crucial lesson for other businesses since realizing that unanticipated disasters might occur without your company's fault is essential.

How Uber Became a Global Transportation Leader
Origins and Founder’s Story Uber, originally called “UberCab,” was founded in March 2009 by Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick. The idea for Uber came to Camp after a frustrating night in Paris when he couldn’t find a cab. He envisioned a service that would allow people to book rides at the push of a button, eliminating the hassle of hailing a taxi. Camp, an engineer and co-founder of StumbleUpon,…

From Idea to Reality: Navigating the Entrepreneurial Journey
Entrepreneurship is often perceived as a glamorous and fast-paced adventure, filled with innovation, groundbreaking ideas, and financial success. However, beneath the surface, the path of becoming an entrepreneur is a complex journey that involves strategic thinking, tireless dedication, risk management, and a deep commitment to personal and professional growth. This article will explore the key stages of turning an idea into a reality, the challenges entrepreneurs face, and the mindset needed to succeed in the business world.
The Genesis of an Idea: Where It All Begins
Every entrepreneurial venture begins with an idea. This idea might come from personal experience, industry insight, or even a sudden flash of inspiration. The initial concept is often raw and unrefined, but it serves as the foundation for what could become a thriving business. Entrepreneurs are not simply idea generators; they are problem solvers who recognize opportunities in the marketplace.
Identifying a gap in the market or a specific problem is the first step toward creating a solution. For example, Uber founders Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp realized the inefficiency in the taxi industry and used technology to address it, leading to the creation of a multi-billion-dollar company. Similarly, many other successful businesses stem from entrepreneurs spotting an unmet need and envisioning a way to fulfill it.
However, having a good idea is just the beginning. Entrepreneurs must ask themselves critical questions before moving forward: Does this idea solve a significant problem? Is there a target audience? Can this idea be executed within the available resources? This initial self-assessment helps in determining whether the idea is viable or needs further refinement.
Research and Validation: Testing the Waters
Once an idea has been formed, the next step is validation. Market research plays a pivotal role in this phase. It’s crucial to understand the competitive landscape, identify the target audience, and evaluate whether there is a genuine demand for the proposed solution. Entrepreneurs must immerse themselves in their industry, studying trends, consumer behavior, and potential barriers to entry.
Surveys, focus groups, and interviews with potential customers can provide valuable insights. The goal is to determine if people are willing to pay for the product or service, what their pain points are, and how the solution being developed fits into their lives. This process also helps entrepreneurs fine-tune their offerings based on real-world feedback rather than assumptions.
One common method for validating an idea is creating a minimum viable product (MVP). An MVP is a simplified version of the product with just enough features to satisfy early adopters and gather user feedback. It allows entrepreneurs to test their concept in the market with minimal resources and make necessary adjustments before scaling.
Crafting a Business Plan: Blueprint for Success
Once the idea is validated, entrepreneurs must transition from inspiration to strategy. This is where a comprehensive business plan comes into play. A business plan serves as a roadmap for the entrepreneur, outlining the company’s goals, target market, revenue model, and growth strategy. It is essential for guiding decision-making and securing investment.
A typical business plan includes:
Executive Summary – A brief overview of the business and its mission.
Product or Service Description – Details about the product or service being offered.
Market Analysis – Research on the target market, competitors, and industry trends.
Marketing and Sales Strategy – The plan for attracting and retaining customers.
Operational Plan – The day-to-day operations of the business, including supply chain and logistics.
Financial Projections – A forecast of the company’s revenue, expenses, and profit over the next few years.
While the business plan serves as a strategic guide, it is also an essential document for attracting investors. Whether seeking venture capital, angel investors, or business loans, potential backers will want to see a detailed plan that shows the business’s potential for growth and profitability.
Securing Funding: Turning Vision into Reality
A major challenge for most entrepreneurs is securing the funding necessary to bring their idea to life. Many entrepreneurs start with bootstrapping, using their own savings or resources to fund the initial stages of the business. While this approach allows for complete control and avoids debt, it also limits the speed and scale at which the business can grow.
Beyond personal savings, there are several other funding options available to entrepreneurs:
Bank Loans – Traditional business loans from banks, which require solid credit and a detailed business plan.
Angel Investors – High-net-worth individuals who invest in early-stage companies in exchange for equity.
Venture Capital – Professional investment firms that provide funding in exchange for equity, usually targeting startups with high growth potential.
Crowdfunding – Platforms like Kickstarter and GoFundMe allow entrepreneurs to raise small amounts of money from a large number of people.
Grants and Competitions – Some governments and private organizations offer grants or business competitions for startups, providing funding without equity requirements.
Each funding option comes with its pros and cons, and entrepreneurs must carefully evaluate their needs and long-term vision before choosing the right path. For example, while venture capital can provide significant resources, it often comes with expectations of rapid growth and loss of ownership stake.
Execution: Bringing the Business to Life
Once funding is secured, it’s time for execution. This is the phase where ideas, plans, and strategies are put into action. Building the business’s infrastructure, launching the product or service, marketing it to the right audience, and setting up daily operations are all part of this process.
During execution, entrepreneurs need to wear multiple hats. They must oversee everything from product development to marketing, customer service, and finance. It can be overwhelming, but this phase is critical for establishing the business’s foundation. The first few months post-launch are often a time of intense learning. Customer feedback will reveal what works and what doesn’t, and entrepreneurs must be quick to adapt.
Building a solid team is another important aspect of execution. Entrepreneurs must carefully hire individuals who not only have the right skills but also align with the company’s culture and vision. A strong team can amplify an entrepreneur’s efforts and help navigate the inevitable challenges that arise during the early stages of business growth.
Challenges and Failures: The Reality of Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship is filled with highs and lows. While the thrill of launching a business is exhilarating, the reality is that challenges and setbacks are inevitable. Entrepreneurs will face numerous hurdles, including competition, financial strain, market shifts, and operational inefficiencies.
One of the most common challenges entrepreneurs face is maintaining consistent cash flow. In the early stages, expenses often outweigh revenue, and managing finances becomes a critical task. Entrepreneurs need to find a balance between scaling the business and ensuring they have enough cash reserves to cover unexpected costs.
Another challenge is competition. Even with a unique product or service, competitors will eventually emerge. Entrepreneurs must constantly innovate, improve, and stay ahead of the curve to remain relevant.
Despite the difficulties, failure is not necessarily the end of the road. Many successful entrepreneurs have experienced multiple failures before finding success. Failure is often the best teacher, providing valuable insights and lessons that can be applied to future endeavors. Resilience and persistence are key traits for overcoming setbacks.
Growth and Scaling: Expanding the Business
Once the business has gained traction and a steady customer base, the next phase is growth. Scaling a business requires a different skill set than starting one. Entrepreneurs must focus on optimizing processes, expanding their team, and potentially entering new markets or diversifying their product offerings.
Growth also requires a clear strategy. Entrepreneurs need to ask themselves: How can we increase revenue while maintaining quality? What markets can we enter next? How can we optimize operations to handle increased demand? Scaling too quickly without the proper infrastructure can lead to operational inefficiencies, customer dissatisfaction, and burnout.
Funding may also be required to fuel growth. Entrepreneurs who initially bootstrapped their business may now seek investment to scale, bringing on partners or investors to support their expansion plans.
The Entrepreneurial Mindset
The journey of becoming an entrepreneur is filled with twists, turns, challenges, and triumphs. From the initial spark of an idea to the hard work of execution and scaling, entrepreneurship requires a unique blend of creativity, resilience, adaptability, and determination.
Entrepreneurs must be visionaries, problem solvers, and risk-takers, but they also need to be grounded in strategy and practical execution. While the path may be difficult, the rewards of building something from the ground up, solving real-world problems, and making an impact are unparalleled. For those who are willing to put in the work, the entrepreneurial journey is one of the most fulfilling experiences life has to offer.

How to Hire on Twitter: Obtaining New Employees on Social Media
The first employee ever hired by Uber was a man named Ryan Graves, and he was hired when he saw a tweet by CEO Travis Kalanick. Graves responded to Kalanick’s call for a business developer/manager, and Graves ended up becoming a billionaire as a result. Now, not every Twitter hiring story will play out as perfectly as that one, but it is still an important tool to consider using in the recruitment process.
How Does Twitter Recruiting Work
The definition of Twitter recruiting is nothing more than attracting new talent via Twitter by posting information about your company as well as the role that you are recruiting for. When people see that information, they may choose to spread the word to those that they personally know who might be a good fit.
How to do Twitter Recruiting
The typical process of Twitter recruiting is not nearly as simple as what Travis Kalanick did back in the early days of Uber. He simply threw a line out and hoped that someone would see it. He got very lucky that someone did who was able to do the job that he needed done. However, if you intend to use Twitter recruiting as a part of your overall recruiting strategy, you can take a more polished approach to get it done.
Here are some steps that you need to take:
Set Clear Goals –Why are you recruiting via Twitter anyway and what do you hope to get out of it? You must have clearly defined objectives for yourself so that you know what you are reaching for. There is no point in putting out recruiting pitches if you aren’t properly defining what the purpose of those pitches are and why you are using them anyway.
Provide Plenty of Information – Another thing that you can do to help set yourself apart from the competition is to create a profile that is full of information about who you are and what you are seeking to accomplish. Potential recruits want to know about the companies they might work for. If you lay out in the information in a way that they can see details about you more easily, then you stand a better chance of someone signing up to be a part of your company.
Follow and Engage with Relevant Accounts –Part of the overall experience of using Twitter is to follow and engage with others on the platform. You ought to seek out relevant and related accounts to follow so that you have additional clout and time spent on the platform. This will raise your profile and make it easier for people to find you.
Ask Other Employees to Engage on Twitter –You can certainly ask other employees that you have hired to engage on Twitter with your account. This will give you a little extra engagement on your account while also helping you to boost that account and make it potentially more interesting for others to check out.
You don’t want to go into the Twitter recruiting process without a plan. Use the steps outlined above to help make it easier on yourself to find and retain the recruits that you need to make a difference in your overall plan. Remember, you are ultimately going to want to use Twitter as a primary channel for recruiting, and these steps will help to get you there.

The Uber Generation: How Millennials Are Transforming Mobility
Uber Generation
The rise of the Uber generation has transformed the landscape of transportation and mobility over the past few years. Millennials, the driving force behind this shift, have embraced the convenience and innovation brought about by ride-hailing apps like Uber. In this blog post, we’ll delve into the adoption of Uber, its impact on the transportation industry, and the key players shaping this evolution.
The Uber Revolution Unleashed
Uber’s Genesis and Growth
Uber, founded in 2009 by Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick, marked the beginning of a new era in transportation. The innovative app-based platform allowed users to request a ride at their fingertips, challenging traditional taxi services. By December 2010, Uber had already made significant strides in the market, positioning itself as a disruptive force in the car service industry.
Millennials Driving the Change
At the heart of Uber’s success lies the enthusiastic adoption by millennials, young adults born between 1981 and 1996. This demographic has been instrumental in propelling Uber’s growth, drawn to the on-demand, app-driven convenience of ride-hailing services. The appeal of Uber’s technology and the seamless experience it offers have made it a preferred choice for millennials seeking efficient and reliable transportation.
The Uber Technologies Ecosystem
Beyond ride-hailing, Uber expanded its footprint with ventures like Uber Eats, a food delivery service, and Uber Technologies, delving into self-driving technology. Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber’s CEO since 2017, has played a crucial role in steering the company through challenges and diversifying its services.
Navigating Challenges and Controversies
Uber has not been without controversy, facing allegations and legal battles. Issues around driver classification as independent contractors, harassment claims, and disputes with traditional taxi companies have made headlines. However, Uber’s ability to navigate these challenges has demonstrated its resilience and adaptability in the ever-evolving mobility landscape.
Market Share and Competition
In the fiercely competitive ride-sharing market, Uber has been a key player, often contending with rivals like Lyft. The dynamics of supply and demand, along with the quest for market share, have driven strategic decisions, partnerships, and innovations within the Uber ecosystem.
Shaping the Future of Work and Economy
The Gig Economy Revolution
Uber’s entry into the scene marked a significant shift towards the gig economy. The platform empowered individuals to become independent contractors, providing them with the flexibility to work on their terms. Gig workers, including Uber drivers, found new opportunities for earning income without the constraints of traditional employment.
Uber or Lyft: A Competitive Duo
The competition between Uber and Lyft has been a defining aspect of the ride-sharing landscape. Users often face the choice between these two giants, influencing market dynamics and shaping the services offered by both companies. The battle for supremacy has led to innovations and improvements in user experience.
Challenges and Controversies: A Closer Look
While Uber’s success has been undeniable, it has not been immune to challenges. Allegations of harassment, disputes over driver classification, and legal battles with taxi companies have tested the company’s resilience. Addressing these issues has been crucial for Uber to maintain its standing in the highly competitive and scrutinized ride-sharing market.
Uber’s Role in the Shared Economy
Uber’s impact extends beyond ride-sharing, contributing to the shared economy’s growth. The company’s foray into services like Uber Eats and Uber Technologies’ ventures into autonomous vehicles highlight its commitment to diversification and adaptation to emerging trends.
The Road Ahead: Innovations and Sustainability
As Uber continues to evolve, investments in self-driving technology, partnerships, and a commitment to sustainability are on the horizon. The challenge lies in balancing innovation with ethical considerations, ensuring that the Uber generation’s mobility choices align with broader societal and environmental goals.
Conclusion: A Transformative Journey
In conclusion, the Uber generation has left an indelible mark on the way we commute, work, and view the economy. From its humble beginnings to becoming a global phenomenon, Uber’s journey reflects the dynamism of the modern era. The choices made by millennials, the challenges faced, and the innovations introduced collectively shape the narrative of the Uber generation in the ever-evolving world of mobility.
