Let me introduce you all to one of my newer oc's. Benjamin/Ben. Ben is indeed an animatronic but is more based around the ones from the Country Bear Jamboree in Disney! I am absolutely in love with this guy. He's huge and so fuzzy I just want to hug him. Anyway here's a little bit of info. about him.
Despite the species of bear Ben is based around he is quite large for his size standing up to 8ft on his hind legs. Ben is a train engineer who works at Grizzly Railways! His main tasks at his job are fueling the train with coal, greeting passenger that board the train, and assisting in driving said train. Ben is a gentle giant at heart greeting most folks he comes across with a sleepy smile. Ben is kind, polite, gentle and quiet. One of his favorite things to do on the train is give children special candy whistles as they board it, although some parents frown upon this since the whistles can be quite loud but Ben does not seem to mind.
And yeah! that's all i have for right now! maybe i'll add to this later or something.

Antique Happy New Year Postcards with Flower Covered Objects
I have a collection of unique antique New Year postcards featuring objects covered with flowers. The floral choices of forget-me-nots and violets are rich with symbolic sentiment. These odd and charming images were popular around 1908, a great year for postcards in general.
Tumblr media
Ellen Clapsaddle flower-covered candy box, reading “Wishing You a Happy and Prosperous New Year.” I wish you the same!
Tumblr media
Flower-covered train engine, with the message “A Happy New Year.” Note the red heart headlights!
Tumblr media
Flower-covered green sleigh, with a green calendar topped with “1 January.” The “1″ is covered in red flowers. As seen in the photo below, the sender used this “A happy New Year” card for Christmas and New Year greetings.
Tumblr media
Message side of the sleigh postcard.
Tumblr media
Flower-covered windmill with the message “Happy may The New Year Be” with spaces to write “To” and “From.” I like the large Art Nouveau clover design to the upper right.
Tumblr media
Here’s an antique postcard featuring a floral cigar box, with box of matches and an ash tray to match. The ash tray has a cigar in it, with a little wisp of smoke. The postcard was published by International Art Publishing Company, number 817 and was printed in Germany.  It was postmarked in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. It is addressed to Mr. Asa Beer in Bath, PA.
Tumblr media
Message side of the cigar box postcard. The embossing shows the outlines of the cigar box clearly.
Tumblr media
This is an antique postcard with a violin covered in purple flowers, with the greeting “Best Wishes for a Happy New Year.” The postcard was published by the International Art Publishing Company, Series number 823.   There is some cancel ink on the front.  It is postmarked Lowell, MA on December 30, 1908 and addressed to Mr. & Mrs. Gustave Fingerlin in Arlington, RI.
Tumblr media
The embossing is very evident on the message side of the violin postcard.
Tumblr media
A flower-covered trumpet is featured on this postcard reading “With All Kind Wishes for The New Year.” It was never mailed or inscribed.
Tumblr media
Flower-covered piano embossed postcard, with the message “A Happy New Year to You.”  It was never postally used. Liberace would have liked this one!
Much has changed in since these cards were sent, but sharing good wishes for the new year has not. 2020 was an especially difficult year for so many people, and I think we’re all ready to welcome 2021. Happy New Year, everyone!!

Casey Jones - Train engineer
"Sim, the old girl's got her dancing slippers on tonight!"  - Casey Jones
On April 30, 1900, John Luther “Casey” Jones’s decision to work a double shift turned him into an American folk hero.  Today, we track passenger airplanes on time record.  For Jones, having his trains “get there on the advertised” was a matter of pride.
Jones began his historic last shift 75 minutes behind schedule.  He was driving “Ole 382”, a steam driven Rogers 4-6-0 “Ten Wheeler” locomotive with six drivers.  The train flew down the tracks as Jones made up the time.  His famous whistle, made of six thin tubes bound together, blew its “whippoorwill call”, as the train roared past.
The Passengers peering out into the night could see nothing.  “But frequent applications and releases of the airbrakes, with accompanying jolts and jerks, and now and then an overpowering, uncanny sense of breathless-ness, told them that they were being carried along faster than they ever had been before.”
After 150 miles, Jones was almost on time.  He had the satisfaction of believing they would reach Canton, Miss. by 4:05 a.m. “on the advertised”.
Neither Jones or fireman Simeon T. "Sim" Webb knew that up ahead at the Vaughan, Miss. delayed trains were still at the station.  Webb spotting the red lights of the caboose yelled, "Oh my Lord, there's something on the main line!"
"Jump Sim, jump!", yelled Jones.  Webb heard the scream of the whistle as he leaped.  Jones reversed the throttle and slammed the airbrakes.  The train slowed from 75 to 35 miles, plowing through the wooden caboose, a car load of hay, another of corn, and half way through a car of timber before leaving the track.
A passenger reported, “I was jarred a little in my bunk, but when fairly awake the train was stopped and everything was still.  Engineer Jones did a wonderful as well as a heroic piece of work, at the cost of his life.”
Thus, began the legend of the brave engineer.
