My Hero Academia AU: Living Ghost

A little bit different than my other comics; I've never done a time lapse before.

In the Ambush Simulation notes, I mentioned that Dabi has a canon divergence in this AU where he returned home after the three years he was missing/presumed dead, but nothing in the household changed and he was still an unhinged mess.  This is the AU comic behind ‘unhinged mess’ and the partial reasoning behind his antagonistic behavior in The Summer Camp Ambush Simulation.

All right, so canonically Dabi is a walking, half-dead, Lovecraftian nightmare of mental and physical health issues who's keeping himself going through sheer willpower/hatred.  Ujiko says that after waking up from the three year coma, he should not have survived longer than a month as a result of the injuries he sustained from the fire.  So even in an AU where he was reunited with his family after the fact, that’s still the reality of his situation.

Enter Endeavor: In this scenario, at that point in his character arc, I think he would have retreated back into his usual pattern of refusing to face the issue. The Todoroki family got Touya back, but they also learned that he wouldn't be with them long. If a missing/presumed dead child turns up after three years, they're immediately going to a hospital to establish mental and physical condition, so the health issues resulting from the fire would have been discovered almost immediately.

From the point of view of Endeavor, Touya's return was cause for celebration and was initially viewed as a second chance/an opportunity to repair some of the damage he'd already done to his family...but then the severity of Touya's prognosis becomes apparent and they're told he has weeks to live. In Ambush Simulation, Endeavor takes the coward’s way out and leaves the problem for everyone else to deal with so he doesn't have to face Touya.  He told himself it was a way of not getting attached and so on, and no matter how much he tries to deny it, the avoidance is his guilty conscious.

The same goes for Rei. She refused to see Touya after he came back just so she wouldn't have to say goodbye to him a second time.

But Touya doesn't die.

Despite what the doctors predicted, he survives '...albeit with complications, various emergencies, experimental treatments to delay the inevitable, no clear answer on how the hell he was still breathing, and no promises that he would ever live a full life...' And now, just like in canon, he has 7-8 years of simmering resentment with the trauma of a near-death experience, the realization of having lost three years of his life due to the coma, the fallout of terminal health, and the crushing disappointment of what should have been a heartfelt reunion turned into a second abandonment.

In this AU as a vigilante, Touya has the Pandora’s Box of being an outrageous public menace and a potential family embarrassment because he figured out the only time his father pays any attention to him is when he’s ‘acting out’ and he decided he’d rather be the problem child than the invisible child.  And unfortunately, this mentality has also ruined his relationship with Natsuo.

In some respect, canon is a happier outcome for Touya because at least in canon, the poor bastard has a purpose instead of reduced to a living ghost.

The piano panels are him rehabilitating his hands.  Technically after a three year coma, he should not have been walking and talking as quickly as he did.  Not with that kind of atrophy.  So I’m balancing that inaccuracy out with the headcanon his fine motor skills were likely completely ruined.

Plus, if your life is a train wreck, have at least one positive hobby.

i don't know why but i really REALLY want to see an AU where endeavor is the japanese prime minister's wife (also we need more fanfics talking about Japanese government outside of the hero public safety commission)

Actually, would be pretty funny if Endeavor is still the husband in this scenario. No malewifing Endeavor here. He marries a woman.

In fact, he finds a better ice-quirk user to marry - someone with stronger ice powers than the top candidates that he was considered (ahem Rei). It is "unfornuate", as Endeavor concludes after their first blind date, that this woman is steadfast determined to continue her career trajectory (a degree in politics/policy/policy science?) and most assuredly not willing to be a housewife, but it's fine, Endeavor decides. It means he'll either have to arrange childcare or do it himself but that also means he can influence the child more directly and train the kid more.

Everything seems all good and dandy... Until he discovers, after the birth of Touya and Natsuo, his wife girlbossing too hard and had managed to complete college, grad school, and now had a full time position in the Japanese government. While juggling two pregnancies by the way. What agency he didn't know or care since it wasn't anything related to heroics. She's still doing her job of popping out more babies for him. So he stayed out of it.

When she decided to quit her job as staffer to some member of the National Diet (when did she start such a position? Endeavor wonders how he didn't notice it.), Endeavor blinked in surprise when she said she was gunning for something more ambitious. But he still didn't say anything. She stayed out of his work so it was only fair that he did the same to her career. Their partnership was good. (Duh, it's two workaholics who barely spend any time at home and say very little to each other if it didn't involve kids.)

And then one day Endeavor wakes up to the news that the prime minister of Japan was assassinated and his successor was predicted to be... his wife. A fact which none of the public seemed to be aware of by the way until this emergency election was announced. But now it was released... without Endeavor or his agency being made aware of such an announcement - bah, a "leak" the media called it. Endeavor was experienced enough in PR after all his years of heroics to know when a leak was planted.

It was unsurprising to see his wife win the election later that night. Especially unsurprising after the, now former and deceased, prime minister being assassinated by a villain (rumored to be connected to All For One who appeared to just gone off the grid a couple weeks ago from what Endeavor's intelligence team told him).

But now Endeavor has a wife who's the Prime Minister. And they have 4 kids - the youngest which is 7 years old. The nanny he had been using (named Rei) just had a mental breakdown after seeing the estate being besieged with reporters and the public and Endeavor was pretty sure she wasn't coming back to work ever. Oh, and he can kiss his dreams of defeating All Might and becoming the new No. 1 hero goodbye because even if he does become the new No. 1, he's never going to feel like he earned it himself - he's going to always wonder if it's a reflection of how popular (or not popular) his prime minster wife is with the public. And considering how, historically, prime ministers usually don't have such high approval ratings with Japan's regular villain attacks among other social problems...

Damn. I think in an AU where Enji is a good father, all problems would be solved, lol.

Touya is daddy's little boy so he appreaciate his good things more than anything. He is smart, kind, he wants to do his best to make his dad proud, to the point he would defend and forgive his bad sides. Touya is already good, loving son. If only his father was the same as him.

Then Touya would develope healthy competition mindset, if Enji encourage his dreams and actually care for him. He would be good big brother to his siblings and be kind son to his mother. He would just be happy child in general and since he has healthy competition mindset, he would have healthty rivalry with his friends. He could still be sassy and teasy boy, he could still be loner but at least he would be happy because in a world where Enji is good father, Rei wouldnt snap, his siblings and him wouldnt be neglected or abused, it would mean he wouldve safe home life. A place where he can rely on, he can go when he is having hard time. Kids who have safe home life usually develop strong personality's too. He would also develope strong sense of justice ebcause of his father's job since he is his role model.

Anyway, nice to imagine, our boy and Todoroki family in general deserves better. Every kid deserves a parent who will love them unconditionally but not every parent deserve to have kids.

Ask Game : How about an au in where Manual is a Todoroki (Any type of relative)

oh, you mean like when i said Fuyumi should adopt Manual as her brother? Or when we just made Manual the oldest todoroki sibling here, here, (and then...) here? or the separate fic where he's the oldest sibling and also the personification of water and the water cycle itself? Or the series where Tensei and Masaki are Vampire Fuyumi's scions and they're members of the Todoroki clan?

Just kidding, im sure everyone who saw the family tree reblog knows which one i'll talk about here.

1- Masaki, eldest Todoroki Himura child, does not have the quirk his father wanted. He also did not have an ice quirk useful to the Himura family. But he is the eldest, and an eldest son at that, so he's still trained and included by the family. Growing up though, Masaki knows that he's not quite right, not quite what people wanted of him, and tries hard to overcome it. He trains, a lot. He studies the family tree the Himuara clan is so proud of, and then branches out more, as if that'll earn their approval. (he knows most of the whole chart ehehe)He trains to the point that he doesn't just have the ability to manipulate water, but create it too, as his parents create fire and ice. Unfortunately, he can only do this by drawing on his body's stores, so he ends up out of breath and dehydrated too easily when he tries, and wielding large amounts of water is terrible for finesse. Touya, a bright firecracker of a second son, is trained instead. He hurts himself in training too, but can keep going, unlike Masaki. Masaki eases off, still training, still going to be a hero, but giving his little brother more of a spotlight. He's satisfied with what he has. But his brother and father aren't.

2- Masaki stops caring about training with overwhelming power, and focuses on learning how to move small amounts of water with better grace. He dives into the detective part of the job, even as Enji largely neglects passing this on to Touya. He uses his weird knowledge of his family tree for connections- why does he keep getting invited to such high level meetings, missions, and parties?? oh well, you see, Captain Celebrity's sibling married one of Masaki's mom's siblings, so they're in-laws-in-laws, and Ryukyuu's uncle married another one of CC's siblings, so of course Masaki got an invite. He isn't even bragging about his connections, or using them for ill, he just shows up and if people ask why, he says it so matter of fact that they're like 'oh yeah of course, i mean if Manual were my cousin's cousin's aunt's neighbor i'd invite him too, cmon in man." It's amazing how most heroes are more likely to know how they and Masaki are connected than to be aware of the fact that Masaki is straight up Endeavor's son. He doesn't need to be networking this hard. he's doing it anyway. He likes, after all, to be treated normally. He just has a skewed view of normal- but i mean, so does Fuyumi! they're just different skewed views.

3- Sadly this is not a Tensaki au for the simple reason that on one of Endeavor's parent's side, Masaki is distantly related to the Iidas. Now that would not be a problem for literally anyone else, but Masaki took the advice of "if you know how closely you're related, you're too closely related and applied it to his life, not thinking that most people do not in fact have a full knowledge of all of their relatives up to tenth cousins four times removed, and a partial knowledge up to fifteenth six times removed. Tensei is bemused when Masaki asks him how the crawler vigilante is doing, since they never officially partnered, and even more so when Masaki explains "Oh, no, it's just that he's been mentored by my uncle Oguru, has my grandparent's speed quirk and he's like, sixth cousins with your mother, only three or four times removed, so i thought maybe he might have mentioned it to you. But i hope he's doing alright, seems like a good guy and i know that bee bombing thing last month was rough."

4- Masaki dyes his hair brown to look more normal, and because he feels like his natural pink hair clashes with his costume too much. (Hey wonder if all that sexism in the family maybe impacted his view of it too. He very much disapproves of Touya's actions and words but maybe he doesn't want a girly pink hair color either.) Anyway, he also didn't stay at his father's agency for clear reasons. Once his own agency is set up, Fuyumi asks him if he'd consider taking in Natsuo- because he's completely neglected by their father, mom's in the hospital still, touya's dead, and Fuyumi's busy with school, Enji, and Shoto. Masaki agrees, and Natsuo ends up going into school for logistics with a science minor, still considering med school later.

5- "hey uh pocket is dabi not touya here" well that chart was made before the reveal. by not a whole lot of time lol. So, MASAKI doesn't think Dabi is Touya. After all, Touya is Dead. and Dead People do not attack school camps and set trees on fire. Dabi is, therefore, infinitely more likely to actually be Masaki's half uncle- he's pretty sure there are other kids on the fire side of the family, and it gives him a reason for hating Endeavor and his kids so much. Masaki stands by this even as his other siblings start cottoning on to the true identity of the arsonist. He's too normal to believe Dabi could possibly be Touya. After Jakku, he gets a call from Tensei like "hey man, i just heard about the news and i'm so sorry, you know you helped me a lot with my brother and family mess so i'll help you with your brother and-" and Masaki goes "OH THANK YOU i know other things like Eraserhead cutting off his own leg are more important, but i cannot believe my uncle would steal my dead brother's identity like that, with that awful dance-" and Tensei is like 'ah, right.' and just... lets him rant a bit to feel better, before he sniffs and goes 'its actually touya, isn't it.'

A friend and I once came up with a joke about bnha villains and how they’re all a bunch of abandoned kids; so it’s easy to come up with AUs by just making a spinning wheel to decide [Who The Orphan/Runaway/Abandoned Child] is and [Who Finds And Takes Them In].

You’ve got for the ‘child’ the options of Tenko, Kai, Jin, perhaps Himiko, Touya; there’s even Eri. For the ‘finder’, it can be anyone from ‘All For One’ to ‘the Yakuza’ to ‘No One’ to ‘Into The System They Go’, etc. And, after the latest chapter 387, we can now add Geten to the list of children, and ReDestro to the list of finders.

We can probably put in names like Keigo and Gigantomachia and Mustard, even.

Lots of Fix-it AU has Heroes (aka, the right people who will end up adopting them and giving them a warm, loving family home, Ideal Guardians) finding the child. Everyone has seen those fics. They’re fun fics! It’s interesting to imagine the what-ifs.

However, the fact that there are so maybe options that you can make a spinning wheel points to a problem, I think. That so many Villains started out as lost children, that who they get picked up by determines the course of their lives, especially because many of the finders are not Ideal Guardians that will raise them into normal, happy, successfully socially integrated good citizens. Hero society just has a big orphan/runaway/abandoned child problem?

For all the the story talks about society being saturated with Heroes, the examples of lost children being found and saved by a Hero seem to be actually quite low.

(This is admittedly a bad conclusion because I’m drawing from a very specific sample size - maybe there are hundreds of orphans that are found by Heroes everyday and get happy endings - but from what we see so far, the system has failed so many kids. And these kids almost always turn into Villains.)

Pretty much the only child who truly got rescued by Heroes and is on track to be given a ‘proper’ warm, loving family home is Eri. But she’s quite the special exception, and she shouldn’t be.

Okay royal aus of dabihawks have just been on my mind for the past month but I cannot seem to choose between these four they all just make me go feral so I’m gonna present them starting with scenario 1 because all of them are pretty long:

Scenario 1: Prince Touya who was born with a weaker body so king enji practically buys a harpy Keigo for his son as his personal aide throughout life. The two end up growing up together with Keigo being at his side at all times and knowing exactly what to do anytime Touya’s body gives out on him. As time passes on and they become teens, the two begin to realize their love for one another. However, Touya must choose another royal to marry before he turns 18. He is told this when he is 17 giving him only one year to choose someone that isn’t Keigo while also never having the courage to confess to Keigo. Keigo being a harpy only meant to serve Touya has lost hope since he knows that Touya would never choose a servant harpy over another royal in a year. The two grow apart during this year, trying their best to loose feelings but always failing. Touya’s birthday was in January and it is now December, he has to choose now or else his father will choose for him. Keigo is also turning 17 that December and Touya decides to screw everything and just go for it. On Keigo’s 17th birthday, Touya kisses him and confesses his love for him. Keigo, of course, reciprocates but questions how on earth this would ever work. Touya decides that the both of them running away would be the best option here as once Touya was married off, the palace would have no use for Keigo and likely get rid of him. Touya wants them to runaway to the Harpy kingdom so that Keigo could learn who he was before he was sold off as a child. The only problem they face is someone trying to track them down and bring them back to enji but they don’t have time for that. They have less than a month to gather supplies and figure out routes to travel while also trying to build upon this new found love for one another.

au where the todorokis live in some little village and they have a village witch, a witch that's bound to the village in some ancient rite. before they die (or decide to leave) the current witch must raise/teach another to take their place and bind them to the village to release themselves. (and if they don't: consequences.)

the witch is at the village's service, providing medical care and bending nature. they have discretion in that they're not obligated to heal everyone and fix every problem, but they have a duty to keep the village overall safe and moderately prosperous. they are also seen as a leader in some ways, but the elders bear most of that burden.

in turn, the village makes offerings, whether that be of food, money, or labor.

well, the current witch has had enough of these bumbling idiots and calls for enji todoroki. she demands an offering of one (1) child, specifically his youngest, shouto. this witch is far younger than enji, and he knows what this means.

but when he comes back the next day, it's not shouto he's dragging by the arm up to the little home some ways into the forest. it's his eldest, touya.

which is funny, she thinks. because she had shown him great kindness by avoiding choosing the eldest son, and he chooses to disrespect her by bringing her the wrong child. when she mentions this, touya immediately bursts into a flurry of anger at the realization that enji was trying to save shouto by sacrificing him.

she agrees to take touya, mentioning that she will overlook this transgression but "the next witch may very well make you pay for your sin."

enji brushes her off. touya isn't as bright or as strong as he needed him to be, and he doubts that he'll thrive as a witch.

unfortunately for him, she says as his figure retreats far into the forest, hatred and anger are powerful sources for magic.

she binds touya when he turns 16 and fucks off. it's an ancient seal that he cannot break. something that she warned him, because it's something many before him have attempted, including herself. and, like all others before him, though he's skilled enough to complete the tasks the village needs, he has far more studying to do before he can adequately train a replacement. and even more to bind them (and, in turn, unbind himself)

he figures that, after his predecessor leaves, he'd be lonely. he's not (he very much is, but he has to wall that part of himself off)

he does do his job. and he does it well enough. but soon after touya takes over, the todorokis meet hostility. touya does not heal everyone. and he does not keep all of their crops from withering. and, if he feels villagers are a bit too proud and a bit too mouthy, he isn't afraid of reminding them who sustains them, especially through painful punishments. his family, who try to keep their distance, become shunned.

he also has an annoying little girl, named himiko, who is often the designated errand girl for the witch, who brings him eggs and rice and bread and milk and begs him to show her a trick, or a little spell. he does not. but he gives her little trinkets and harmless potions. and maybe he saves some sweets or the best of his medicines for her, in case she falls ill.

when an outsider swipes some goods from one of the shops, the elders shake their heads and mutter that this is not their charge. they deal with internal conflicts, and an outsider is none of their business. take him to the witch, let him see what is best.

of course it's jin. a man who speaks oddly and scares them. they drag him to touya, who isn't happy to see them. he says that this is none of his business. the goods were recovered anyway. but they insist on punishment.

if touya saw natsuo in the crowd, he pretended not to notice.

he tells them to hold the outsider still. jin doesn't put up much of a struggle until he sees the knife, but he's not strong enough to fight off several grown men. touya carves his own seal into jin's shoulder, declares that jin is his now, and that they should all leave.

the villagers are none too happy. pissed, in fact. touya's doling out his home brewed punishments on them everywhere they turn. then this stranger turns up and he gives the guy a free pass.

they don't get much in the way of their arguing, because the first naysayer falls to the ground, clawing at his throat, lips blue. jin is scared. so is natsuo. the crowd is silent. jin pipes up, half-demanding and half-asking that touya not kill him. touya stares at him, but a beat later, the man suddenly regains the ability to breathe and gulps air. jin lets out a shaky breath.

one of the others says something, and touya tells him that his pregnant wife will miscarry by tomorrow. he pales, apologizes. they disperse, natsuo with them.

jin follows touya into the little home. he thinks of making a break for it, but he knows a witch's seal isn't some pretty little doodle and thinks better of it.

touya announces he needed some extra hands around the place. jin isn't suitable as a replacement, but he'll work as help (and to stave off touya's loneliness, though he doesn't admit that, not even to himself.)

touya gives him several tasks, which is mostly gathering some items. when jin asks what they're doing, touya scoffs and says he's going to make that man's wife miscarry. jin balks at this and refuses to help until touya, who's fucking annoyed, decides it's too much trouble and goes back to starting dinner, ordering jin to chop wood outside.

My Hero Academia AU: What Happened on Friday

An Ambush Simulation comic.

Fair warning, this is not one of my usual lighthearted ones. If you’ve read the fic, you’ll know the scene, but if you haven’t, be warned there is brief domestic violence and some blood. Nothing more serious than what's already in My Hero's canon.

Read right-to-left.

Ah, yes. The inciting moment for The Summer Camp Ambush Simulation.

Addressing the reason why things escalated so quickly, since the answer is not really given in the accompanying fic either, we need to look at Endeavor’s point of view. He’s invested twenty-three years into his goal of trying to complete his perfect successor. He has almost succeeded with Shouto, except the events of Hosu City nearly jeopardized that beyond repair. Shouto is his last chance. He can’t have another kid, it’s unlikely he can train a grandchild to succeed him. (You can’t tell me he didn’t consider that.) Shouto being charged with vigilantism and having that black mark could have ruined everything he’s worked so hard for.

And now Touya, his past failure and current problem child who has been charged repeatedly with vigilantism, is stepping between him and Shouto and mouthing off. He’s interfering, just like his mother did.

Old 'habits' die hard.

I thought about cutting the comic short with the brothers heading to the bathroom, but I thought it was important to also include Touya's toxic behavior. Yeah, he has PTSD, abandonment trauma, and who knows what else, but acting like this isn't healthy either.

In Chapter 2, Touya fixates on the fact that Endeavor hit him. He barely pays attention to the fact Shouto was there.

In Chapter 3, Shouto is the one whose pov provides the whole picture. He was being scolded and then Touya stood up for him. Touya has never stood up for him, nor does he really understand why he did it. During the confrontation, Endeavor hits Touya. Endeavor has never done that before. Two of Shouto's 'normals' got overturned in the span of two minutes. He's confused, but he still tries to do the right thing by his hostile sibling.

And rather than accept his help, Touya lashes out at him again once the shock wears off. As he is in canon, he is still spiteful, self-destructive, and a bit self-pitying and returning home after the coma in this AU did little to change that because the core issue is Endeavor being a bad parent.

And if there's any confusion as to why Shouto sees Rei briefly after Touya is knocked to the floor, this is a bit of dialogue from the fic it's from:

"I spent my entire childhood listening to my mother crying because you hurt her over and over.  I refuse to live through that again with my brother."

Ok so when I think of the megamind aesthetic, gonna be honest, the only one who can come close is Toshinori's villain outfit so expect this to get derailed...

1- on his home planet, Toshinori is considered weak and powerless, but Mirai, his family minion, can receive visions of the future and declares Toshinori will be very strong one day. Uh, and also that the planet is going to explode. His parents put Toshinori and Mirai on a lot escape pod and yeet him as the planet dies. On a neighboring planet, a shapeshifting baby, even younger than Toshinori, is also yeeted.

2- Toshinori grows up on earth around the dubious influence of Sorahiko (no hero system to conveniently align his morality to), Nana (has more convictions than Sorahiko but doesn't exactly prioritize legalities either), En (straight up thief), Giran (you know me), and while he always has the drive to help people- especially after learning that he can charge up power from the yellow sun in order to get up to three hours of strength in a boosted body- the first attempt at this goes... Badly. He helps save a family from a car wreck, but his inhuman eyes and smoking form scare them and he's attacked. But he tries again! And this time a young woman shows up dressed like a superhero in a comic, declares herself Lady Nagant, a natural born hero, and shapeshifts her arm into a gun. Toshinori quickly exits when he realizes he won't be able to talk her down, and on getting home, everyone decides if he's going to be treated like a villain and monster for trying to help people, might as well embrace that. Cue an absolute incredible villain costume

3- Mirai has a vision of a scientist working to help them engineer weapons to give them an edge against Nagant, so Toshinori and he go to Professor Shield. Mirai suggests kidnapping the man's daughter to hold as leverage, but Toshinori doesn't want to involve children and also is pretty sure that's a great way for David to put a bomb in anything he builds for Toshinori to hold closely. But turns out David doesn't need convincing! He's 100% on Toshinori's side, but the decide that to protect the Shields, they will all pretend that they are hostages. This means whenever Toshinori is arrested, Mirai grabs Melissa and leaves, and it's a fifty fifty chance if David follows because he can't lose her too, or if he's rescued for a few days before Toshinori escapes and collects him again. David is kept in increasingly secure bases each time in an attempt to stop this from happening but nothing ever works lol

4- the only person who suspects something else is going on with that professor is photographer and reporter Tokuda Taneo, but he's still chasing the story behind both villain and Nagant. Endeavor is the warden and he has a completely one sided rivalry with Toshinori, even attempting to get his kids in on it. Only Touya throws himself into this with enthusiasm, and Toshinori is kinda perturbed that Enji would use a child like that. This offends him, since Toshinori clearly doesn't have a problem using the Professor's child against him, so really Enji is worthy of it too. Toshinori decides to leave that bag of crazy alone and focus on escape plans.

5- so, Nagant landed in the home of a rich politician, but when she was young she was fully turned over to the government to make a superhero. She was happy for this at first, and gave herself bright purple hair (she was under orders to look human, but she pointed out that would be possible with hair dye, and it did make her look more like a comic book hero. She also made herself look older than the teenager she was at her debut). But eventually she got worse and worse orders, and kept being told to just kill Toshinori instead of taking him in, and the branch broke when they told her to kill the Shields as well, since the hostage thing was a farce. Nagant pointed out that even if David was a villian, Melissa was a kid who was a baby when this all started. Her handler doesn't care. The worst Toshinori's really done is waste taxpayer money on the prison continually being rebuilt. Her handler doesn't care. They want to finish up this All Smite job so Nagant can move on to more important cases. Nagant picks up that this is bad, but her only way out would be if she dies so....

A fake death it is! David is pretty sure he's used copper in other machines before but ok, whatever, they won! And Toshinori mostly leaves ruling to Mirai because he believes it's important for the city to have a hero and they accidentally gave another kid shape shifting abilities, but young Keigo wants to be a hero so badly and is picking it up too like a natural! And turns out Toshinori really likes mentoring... But then Keigo gets grabbed by the government too and leaves a note that he's running away with his mom for a better life, so Toshinori, alone, isn't having the best day when he runs into a boy even younger than Melissa who asks if he can be a hero without a power. Toshinori wonders why he never thought of that, and says he can.

Mirai does not approve of Toshinori wasting time training another new hero, this one without any powers- but when he has a vision of Keigo standing over Toshinori's body, bloody feather in hand, he gets even more desperate to convince him. When Toshinori refuses, Mirai leaves.

(in the other room, David frowns, and begins working on altering a hologram so it can fit around a person in disguise, making them look like Toshinori. He's learned over the years that Mirai's visions can't be prevented, but they sure as hell can be misinterpreted)

I'm not sure if you want an answer to your question or just sharing your headcanon but, in case you want an answer here that's why I think he didn't.

Enji wanted a child whom he could believe would be able to surpass All Might for him.

What's more, that child should be his 'upgrade', a better version of himself.

Basically he wanted a successor (継承者 'Keishō-sha').

Touya didn't just have a fire Quirk, he had a fire Quirk much more powerful than Enji and Enji believed Touya could, with it, surpass All Might.

While I'm sure Enji knew one could become a Hero with a ice Quirk, he clearly didn't believe Natsuo's Quirk would be enough to surpass All Might... and possibly never saw ice as a very powerful Quirk in itself.

He wanted Shouto to learn his techniques (and again, be his upgrade which is what he said to him) and mostly viewed Shouto's ice Quirk as a way to cool him down when he were to use the fire one. While it's true Shouto's whole Quirk is his own, Enji never though Shouto could go far with his ice Quirk... which incidentally is instead what allowed Shouto to stop Touya when Enji, with his fire Quirk, was powerless to do so.

Long story short... he didn't try to train Natsuo (or Fuyumi) because he didn't judge his Quirk powerful enough. It didn't matter they could still become Heroes (though I don't think they had interest to do so), since he believed they wouldn't become powerful enough, he saw no reasons to force them to train in order to become Heroes.

Did they have the potential to become Heroes? Oh, likely they had.

Touya is a different matter as the doctor told Enji Touya should just NOT USE his Quirk, as his Quirk burns him since he has low heat resistance, not that it was okay for him to use it as long as someone were to cool him down... and BNHA doesn't really care about medical details but to cool down burns with ice actually worsen things... so Enji would have probably ALWAYS be against Touya becoming a Hero.

So would this have made things easier or harder for Shouto?

Hard to say. Having older siblings in the Hero world might have helped Shouto but having all his siblings be Heroes and still be forbidden to become one would have been even worse for Touya, never mentioning that if Natsuo and Fuyumi weren't interested in becoming Heroes but were also forced to do so, might have pushed Rei to crumble sooner.

So it would have been surely nice if all of Shouto's older siblings could become Heroes and help each other but... Enji wasn't interested in Heroes who wouldn't become stronger than All Might, Touya's problems would have likely still made impossible for Enji to allow him to become a Hero and Fuyumi and Natsuo might not have wanted to become Heroes and, if they were forced to do so and ended up having to go through the same (abusive) training Shouto suffered... well, we might have had an even worse family situation.

But it would make for a very nice AU if all the Todosiblings could have become Heroes and help each other. If someone were to make a manga with parallel stories I would love to see this possibility be trasposed because really, the possibility you've suggested look beautiful.

Said all this, sorry if you didn't instead wish for an answer and it'll only feel like I've intruded in your headcanon but I love to talk about the Todoroko family and so it was hard for me not to catch this chance.

Touya ‘Problem Child’ AU

AU WHERE TOUYA/DABI WAS IN AIZAWA’S FIRST EVER HOMEROOM CLASS and when he runs away, aizawa and yamada take him in???

at this point, endeavour just kinda ignores touya since he has shouto to train instead. so touya has to get in through the main exam rather than recommendations. despite everything that’s happened to him, he still wants to be a hero

this is going off the natsuo-and-dabi-are-twins theory, so this is 4 yrs before canon, when touya would be 15. im just gonna make bubble girl 3 yrs younger so i can put her in touya’s class, also sirius, kido and mr brave. lets just shove in some siblings for other characters - hatsume’s big sister, kaniyashiki’s little lobster brother, and setsuna’s big brother. damn now i have to come up with names for these peopel. alright, 8 ppl is enough, the rest get expelled

aizawa has been teaching hero/vigilante law at ua for 2 years and he’s built up a reputation for expelling students, but he’s never had his own homeroom class before

(after touya’s class graduates, aizawa gets given another, but he ends up expelling the whole lot, so that’s why he gets another 1st year class the next year (midoriya’s class) so the math for the years works out)

you just know that touya is the ‘problem child’ of the class - his quirk literally burns his own skin!! so when aizawa later dubs midoriya ‘problem child,’ it’s because he reminds him of touya

all touya wants at this point is to prove his father wrong and be a hero. he doesn’t care about ‘friends.’ but ofc the 7 other kids in his class will not stand for this, and he gets dragged into a close friend group with bubble girl (awata) and sirius (who i’ll call kikuna, since she doesn’t have a name in canon)

just before the start of his second year, touya gets into a really big fight with enji: endeawhore pushes shouto past the point of quirk exhaustion, so touya and fuyumi want to take him to the nearest hospital but enji won’t let them because he doesn’t want a scandal. touya basically says ‘fuck you’ and distracts enji while fuyumi and natsuo carry shouto’s unconscious body away to safety. touya’s idea of a ‘distraction’ is finally fighting back to his asshole of a father. endeawhore is enraged, and he’s not in ‘training’ mode anymore, he’s genuinely trying to murder his own son. touya gets his scars because he has to use his quirk excessively to defend himself, and his body can’t handle it. he has to run away because he’s genuinely afraid enji’s gonna kill him. 

without medical attention his burns are gonna get infected, but touya can’t go to the hospital because they’d send him back to his father, and he ends up living on the streets. lucky for him, within a few days aizawa finds him during patrol. at this point, the exhaustion and injuries are catching up to touya, and he’s passed out. aizawa takes him to recovery girl - she fixes his burns, but the scars remain. it’s only in proper lighting that aizawa realises the kid he just saved is his student - who endeavour’s claiming died in a ‘freak accident.’ when touya wakes up, he tells aizawa the truth, and aizawa takes him in with yamada.

they begin to build a case against endeavour, but because the hero keeps his home life under such close wraps it’s hard finding concrete evidence - especially since touya is officially ‘dead.’ in the meantime, he lives with aizawa and yamada. he still goes to school with his normal class - since there were only 7 classmates, it’s easy to convince them to keep it quiet, especially since they’re so happy to find that touya’s alive. 

it takes 9 months, but working with tsukauchi and nedzu, they’re able to get touya’s death certificate overturned and he becomes a viable witness against endeavour, and the trial process can begin. 3 months after that, a full year since touya ran away from home, and enji is finally convicted in court - he is arrested. fuyumi takes custody of natsuo and shouto, and they move to a house right next to rei’s hospital so they can visit her every day. now that endeavour’s stopped bribing officials, rei is able to get a long overdue psychological evaluation to prove that she’s well enough to look after her kids again, and she gets to come home from the hospital!! touya still lives with aizawa and yamada though.

queue a cute epilogue of when shouto gets into class (via recommendation from aizawa, since shouto started training with him - proper, good training, not like endeawhore’s) on his first day and his big bro is there as a teaching assistant. because of course he is! his sister’s a teacher, his dads are teachers, and he wants to train students to be heroes with the same care and kindness that he wishes he’d got as a kid.

maybe in the future i’ll make some art for this au, idk. i just wanted to get this off my chest. i think ‘touya problem child au’ would be a pretty fitting name, so that’s what i’ll tag it as for the moment

Oh my god if I see season 6 come out and I see people be like “poor hawks he wants to join the villains but he has to do what the commission says uwu” I’m gonna fucking lose it.

Not once does this dude actually express the fact that he cares for the villains. “Oh but he was nice to them” ITS CALLED ACTING. HE WAS UNDERCOVER. IF YOU BELIEVED HE WAS ON THE SIDE OF THE LEAGUE GUESS WHAT - YOU BOUGHT IT. YOURE GULLIBLE. THE WHOLE POINT OF HIS MISSION WAS TO MAKE THEM TRUST HIM.

I literally saw someone say recently that Hawks loved Twice. LOVED HIM AND THAT HE WAS A FUCKING TRAGIC HERO FOR HAVING TO KILL HIM!!!! Do you know how fucking stupid that sounds?!

“But he was offering to help rehabilitate them! Twice instigated the fight!” Twice didn’t fight back. Twice also knew that the “rehabilitation” Hawks had in mind was just throwing them all into Tartarus. There is no rehabilitation in the BNHA universe. That’s fanon. I should know because I fucking MADE a rehabilitation au.

“Twice’s quirk was dangerous! He had to get rid of him!” Again. Twice wasn’t fighting back. He tried to run and was LITERALLY STABBED IN THE BACK. He was escaping. He was trying to get away.

“But if he’s a dangerous criminal! Hawks had to protect himself and others!” POLICE/HEROES SHOULDNT SHOOT UNARMED PEOPLE! POLICE/HEROES SHOULDN’T SHOOT GUILTY PEOPLE EITHER! POLICE/HEROES SHOULDNT SHOOT ANYONE! AND IF YOU TRULY WANTED TO REHABILITATE THIS PERSON YOU WOULDNT FUCKING KILL THEM!

“Hawks had no other choice. The Commission-” Hey. Hey. Look at me. If someone tells you to do something, you don’t have to do it. It’s called free will. I will admit he was probably abused and brainwashed by the Commission. But like. This dude does not change his tune. He does not want to break free of the Commission. He doesn’t struggle with following his orders. We’re talking about the dude who said that he’d “corrupt himself” for the good of the mission. He’s fine where he is. He’s a goddamn lapdog. He’s a huge contrast to Lady Nagant, who was actually remorseful at what the Commission made her do and tried to quit (and was punished for it).

“Dabi just let Twice die!” Dabi attacked Hawks to help Twice escape but failed. It was not his intention to let Twice die.

“But he was filming it to frame Hawks!” He wanted footage to prove Hawks was a bad person in general. That was the footage he happened to get.

“Dabi abused Hawks.” Just attacking someone is not abuse. Abuse occurs when one party has a position of power over the other. Dabi was just attacking him. And if you have a problem with him attacking people, I hate to break it to you - it’s a shonen manga. With people literally labelled as heroes and villains. There has to be conflict and Hawks literally just killed a man. I think Dabi can attack people if he wants to.

“Dabi was happy Twice died! He was laughing!” Dabi says with his own damned mouth that he can’t cry. He’s also been shown to, even before he was Dabi and when he was Touya, smile when being hurt. Touya, you know, the kid with an abusive father. The kid that wanted so much attention from his abusive father that he repeatedly hurt himself to “make him stronger” and would then smile to hide his pain. Dabi smiling at Twice’s death isn’t because he’s happy. He’s grieving and he can’t cry. (Side note: Shigaraki also smiles when in pain.)

Enough about Hawks.

(Also can we talk about the fact that Dabi called out Endeavour for his behaviour and Best Jeanist told him to shut up and keep “personal matters” off of tv and when Endeavour admitted to the child abuse Burnin basically said there’s no proof?)
