Can we just take a second to appreciate the growth of Ava’s protective instinct towards Beatrice over these past 2 seasons because it’s suPERb. In season 1 we see the first time Ava reacted, completely subconsciously, to Beatrice in danger

at this point she’s not aware of her emotional connection to the halo’s power, and has way less control of what happens - so even though she does shatter the bullet and save Bea’s life, she also blows everything in the room backwards including herself. Even Beatrice gets pushed back (although super softly) as you can see her recover briefly to run over to Ava after

THEN we start to get spicier protection in season 2 when Ava does react with more understanding of the halo’s power and her feelings towards Beatrice, and not only does she accomplish a much harder goal (poofing away a demon???) 

but this time Ava able to handle the blast AND it doesn’t get anywhere close to Beatrice. She does clearly have a blowing back effect on people next to her (cue Miguel/Michael folding like a lawn chair part 1) but Ava is learning to control the power of the halo and how to use it to protect specific people... or in her case specifically Beatrice

and then of COURSE because third times the charm, the last one is my favorite. This time it’s intentional, Beatrice knows Ava can control the power and she tells Ava to let go, and Ava nods AND pulls Beatrice in telling her to hold on 

WHICH if we look at past experience showing Ava having a forceful blast that surrounds her after using her power, her instinct should initially be to tell Beatrice (and Michael I guess) to run so that they don’t get hurt, but she knows at this point that whatever power she releases won’t hurt Beatrice because Ava would never let it. I mean look at Michael ! ! ! 

Dude folds like a lawn chair (PART 2) as if he were one of the possessed enemies Ava is releasing a blast towards. Even though Ava thinks logically she’ll be able to protect both of them, her internal instincts are only thinking of protecting Beatrice in the moment and the halo’s blast reflects that.

Bonus is watching them walk away without a second glance at anyone because to them, as long as they’re both safe, it’s mission accomplished:

something about how ava- the golden retriever literally constantly vibrating in her seat, fidgeting 24/7 full emotion on her sleeve- being impatient in every way except when it comes to Bea, knowing and understanding the patience Bea needs when it comes to love & loving herself & letting herself feel emotions & learning how to take her walls down is so… perfect like i cannot stop thinking about them & i wish i knew how to draw/write because i don’t know how to get all this love i have for them out of my system

The Teacher Becomes the Student

one of the many things that i love about Avatrice is Bea’s mentoring of Ava, specifically her ability to change tactics mid-training and how that change contributed to them connecting on an emotional level.

for instance, Beatrice might seem a bit cold or detached sometimes…

…but of course it’s going to come off that way compared to Ava’s upbeat and happy go-lucky personality.

they’re polar opposites in terms of their outward expression. but what i appreciate about Beatrice as a mentor is that, because Ava is so much different from her, Bea constantly works to find new and fresh ways to mentor her throughout their journey.

one of the key moments is when Beatrice reads the story about the lesbian nun to Ava. Bea obviously knows what the story is about when she tells it, including its double relevance; it’s a lesson for Ava, sure, but this breakthrough moment was more about Beatrice. you can see she’s nervous when she reveals to Ava that the warrior nun in the story is a lesbian. but i don’t think Bea’s voice shakes because she’s nervous about telling Ava; i think she’s more nervous about admitting it to herself.

Beatrice speaking her truth aloud and then pushing forward by telling Ava about her struggles is her breaking through her own personal pain.

after wiping her tears away, Beatrice tells Ava that now it’s her turn. i’m sure Beatrice caught on that Ava has a knack for running away from scary situations, so when Beatrice has a chance to mentor Ava, instead of yelling at her or scaring her (like Lilith and Mother Superion), Beatrice opens up about herself in an attempt to connect with Ava. all Ava wants is connection, something Beatrice picks up on very early, but Beatrice isn’t going to ask Ava to do something that she herself is unable to do.

as a mentor, not only is Beatrice leading by example, but she is connecting with Ava by meeting her halfway and allowing herself to open up as a way to show Ava that they’re in this together.

and when Bea opens up, Ava dives in, as only Ava can: heart first.

from the very first time they meet to the very last moment, Ava slowly peels back Bea’s many layers and then just tears them to shreds. the thing is, despite her bluntness and cool demeanor, Beatrice strikes me as a very kindhearted and compassionate person. i imagine she remembers birthdays and loves kids and volunteers at homeless shelters. like top tier saint. but i feel like it’s all very understated and composed. “contained,” like that woman, who was flirting with Bea, said. but Ava makes it hard for Bea to stay contained. from swapping puns, to cheek kisses, to dancing drunk in a Swiss bar, Ava totally breaks Bea wide open.

and in letting Ava in, Bea goes from sacrificing her life because of shame, to living her life because of love.

Ok, so after finishing my 6th rewatch of Warrior Nun season 2, and as I’m loading it up for rewatch rewatch #7, I gotta put some of my thoughts down:

1. I haven’t seen this too much, but the reveal of Miguel being Jillian‘s son Michael was so so so obvious from the first time we saw the first trailer. Casting is top tier for the show because Jack Mullarkey looks exactly like the child actor from season 1! I literally thought that was the child actor grown-up! Bravo!

2. I have not seen enough love for Lillith this season! Yes, I know she teams up with Adriel, but she’s also just so f*cking badass that I can’t help but love her. I mean the fight scene in episode one blew my mind the first time I watched it, and every time I watch it, it just gets better! Never thought I’d be attracted to a bat demon lady, but here we are.

3. I was sad Toya wasn’t able to be in this season and the lost of Shotgun Mary was definitely felt. In season one, she was just such a solid comedic character with a background that i wish we had gotten more of. I think the show runners including the part with Vincent tricking Lilith into thinking Mary was still alive made it more confusing for me, and I wish they’d kind of just said that she was dead from the beginning!

4. Mother Superior and Camila pairing off was a highlight of the season to me. I like that we got to see more of her motherly tendencies with the girls this season as opposed to last season were she kinda sucked until the last episode.

5. I saved it for last, but 1000% not least… AVATRICE!! Holy shit! I have never felt so fed in my life, watching this romance play out on screen! The subtle looks, casual touches, unspoken words, and actual intimacy developed between Ava and Beatrice this season was so beautiful. I have cried every time watching the “Be Free.”, “I love you” scene! Bravo!

Overall, let me just say we better get a season 3! Netflix…you’ve canceled all of my favorite shows recently with any kind of W/W content and it needs to stop!!

Your writing drives me nuts (good) and i am so excited to see force sensitive avatrice and the rest of the gang really 😎😎powerful sith bea sounds sooo good btw i love it; the fandom needs to try more left field choices like that (although if you think about her trauma and repression and self loathing is it really all that left field? hmmm 🤔). But ngl, as someone who detached from following the extended star wars canon after the expanded universe got retconned to legends, i had to google the jedi fallen order game and i hope your ending is a little brighter than what the wiki synopsis tells me 😢

i had a prophetic vision of bea with a red lightsaber & couldn’t stop thinking about it so i figured why not lmao. but also ava as a literal ray-of-sunshine jedi who can run on walls and do backflips 🥺

I am new to the fandom (and Tumblr), but Warrior Nun has quickly become my comfort show! It is one of the best shows I have seen in a LONG time. No show has impacted me quite so much since Bly Manor. The cinematography, acting, and fight scenes are incredible. Top tier. Not to mention the soundtrack, the amazing characters, the love story, (Avatrice has my heart!❤️) and the queer representation! The story itself is truly a masterpiece. The show is amazing and I love it so much!
