For the visual artifact I wanted to take what I learned from Wysocki about being intentional with the use of font, size, type families etc. For this assignment I will be focusing on soda alternatives and creating a magazine spread that is modeled after the one he analyzed in the reading because he had a lot of good things to say about it. He wanted the magazine spread to have an open feeling so the pictures he cut out had the correct emphasis.
My goal is to create the same successful spread to inform my audience about soda alternatives that taste good and actually have amazing health benefits. The leading alternative is Poppi, a prebiotic soda that is only 20 calories, good for digestive health, and contains vitamins and prebiotics. Poppi already has amazing and clear branding, so my goal is to inform the public about its benefits and why it is the best alternative in the market. Although it comes at a steeper price than a regular 12 pack of any soda, it isn’t the most expensive alternative on the market.
The layout of my two page spread is as follows:
Reading the left pages top to bottom is the healthiest alternative to soda, water. Water can be enhanced with flavor packets or drops, but it isn’t the easiest transition to achieve for those who love soda and have that reliance on it. However, with the plain background, and emphasis on the beverages, the readers eyes may instead wander in a clockwise direction from left to right. In the top left is soda, top right: Poppi, bottom right: Olipop, and bottom left: water. This direction also tells a story. From soda to Poppi is the most direct alternative- the prebiotic soda. Olipop markets itself as a sparkling tonic, and while still yummy and healthier, not a direct alternative to soda. However, if someone were to want to wean themselves off of soda, this clockwise direction would be the path to strictly drink water.
