Pita Taufatofua, who most of you will remember as the hot Tongan flag bearer at the Olympic last year, is raising money to help with tsunami relief in Tonga

the situation there is dire, its not an exaggeration to say most of the country was underwater. the damage is extensive, and it is going to take a lot of money and work

Tonga has regularly raised huge sums in the past to aid other countries effected by natural disasters, it is only right that we do what we can to help now. any koha helps, whatever you can give

seeing some Bad comparisons in my notes so I gotta make something clear.

reading Dracula does not give support to the author. he is dead. he cannot make money off your enjoyment of the novel, it is in the public domain!! it is also a really important historical novel, and reading it bit by bit is a great opportunity to really analyse it, including the biases present in the novel that are still prevalent in modern depictions of vampires. reading it gives the skills to spot things like antisemitism in modern media, as well as just a general good context for the beginnings of this genre

reading Harry Potter directly supports jk rowling. she is still fully alive and profits off any financial or verbal support you give her books. she then funnels that directly into removing the rights of actual transgender people. those books are also not historically important, and there are a million other similar books that are better

these two things aren't comparable

I think we're definitely getting to the point with Dracula daily where some (most) people need to be reminded it is a historical novel, and is going to have prejudices in it. that doesn't meant dont read it, its important to read these classic stories that have been so warped by time and pop culture! it just means you should be keeping an eye out for the biases that are present, be critical of what you're reading, make note of what stereotypes the text is applying to minority groups and how that might affect them

GiveOut has activated our LGBTQI Emergency Fund in response to the massive underwater volcano and tsunami in Tonga. We are asking you – our community and corporate allies – to donate to this appeal to support the Tonga Leitis Association in providing humanitarian relief to the LGBTQI community.

All of Tonga has been covered in dangerous volcanic ash, and buildings in coastal areas have been ripped apart, leaving many Tongans without clean drinking water or shelter. The eruption severed the country’s main communication line, making it difficult to establish early contact. The delivery of relief provisions has been further complicated as the authorities are trying to prevent the spread of COVID, with only one case to date.
