I've developed a theory on Enjoyment of Toshiki Inoue Writing. don't take this too seriously btw.

in this i will be using "you" to refer to a hypothetical watcher of Inoue shows and not necessarily You, the fan reading this

Whether feel hate or unhinged love towards any given piece of Inoue writing depends on whether it hits your Galaxy Brain switch. And that's different for every person. How much you have to galaxy brain depends on the individual, but I think some level of it is necessary to enjoy his Serious Writing. Not necessary for enjoying his comedic writing.

Galaxy brain is what i call the kinda vague action of getting Invested in something while Knowing Better than Inoue (or whomever). For example, I Galaxy Brain about Kitaoka from Ryuki.

I don't think when Inoue wrote Kitaoka, he was necessarily thinking of My Interpretation where I see his actions towards Reiko as primarily Antagonistic On Purpose (as you can see where tokubros appear to live in a universe where they think otherwise) but I know better because I have Galaxy Brain.

Galaxy Braining is, at its core, a way of coping with the various Objectionable Biases and Tropes present in these pieces. But it's also a fun and fulfilling activity to do as a fan!

So that's how you get such polarizing takes on something like Kiva. The people who love it Galaxy Brain about it and everyone else who didn't have that switch flipped are like. wow this sucks.

and Galaxy Braining Inoue is not inherently Good or Bad. galaxy brain takes aren't inherently more or less valid. They're just different for everyone and it's really interesting to see what ends up hooking and inspiring people vs. what turns them completely off. bc that's the other thing about his stuff, there is also often so much to hook and inspire us to Fuel the galaxy brain.

also obviously this applies to writers besides Inoue but Inoue's a fun kind of case study because of how Distinctive his Style is.

i’ll probs catch more on a rewatch and others have pointed this out but. it seemed like the “timeline” changed right when we got the ep1 flashback/eyecatch? like that’s when hibiki’s arm wound vanished and switched to her head, and wehn we saw hiro again, and also lulu’s demeanor switched from being sad to more determined? so like. i wouldn’t be surprised if lulu shenanigans happened as well in that time…………

also lulu. obviously bravern is smith + knuth + brainwave bot but i would NOT be surprised if there was some of lulu in there too. since her brainwaves were in there too? which would make sense as another ingredient in the bravern soup, if he gets his clinginess and more childish demeanor from her in addition to his horniness from knuth and his heroic attitude and love for isami from smith. which is maybe why, after the “timeline switch” i just mentioned (idk what else to call it) lulu suddenly Knows Smith’s In There in a way she didn’t SEEM to before? like she called bravern “smith” ofc but this was like. deliberate in a different manner imo. idk. lulu is up to Some Shit tho and like everthing else i am SOOOOOOOOOO excited to see it !!!!!!!!!!!!

to fix Reiwa rider they should make Akibaranger but for Kamen Rider.

main rider: late 20s early 30s man who works part-time as a cook in a large-ish not-family-owned-but-not-a-chain-either restaurant (maybe like a beer garden or smth), always exhausted and hates people bc of this. Not particularly handsome unless you’re into the greasy lean chainsmoker look which many are lol. Likes all rider but prefers showa rider and likes talking about power levels and Dark Mature Themes and general tokubro shit. His favourite riders are Kotaro and Takumi and he is exactly what you would think of someone like that. Very gay in the “you’re gay bc you like men. I’m gay bc I hate women” way.

secondary rider: late 20s early 30s fujoshi. Appears to be a pretty normal, successful businesswoman in a neat suit and a slick ponytail. Immediately picks a fight with main rider for saying Kiva is shit. Eventually admits that it IS shit but HE hates it for the wrong reasons. They have no romantic chemistry at all and one ep she wonders maybe if she was a man they would have her fave enemies-to-friends-to-lovers dynamic. cishet women totally definitely think like that girl. She dismisses it bc he’s ugly anyway and any romance between them is never brought up again. She gets very excited when tertiary rider shows up but they are also annoying and not her type so instead she decides to ship the villains.

tertiary rider: early 20s. gender irrelevant.
