- Nyx, a Star Eater, took damage when she collided with Earth (Book: Persona 3 Club). The debris created the Moon and, while Nyx' psyche was trapped on Earth, her body was enclosed in the Moon.

- Nyx began the long process of healing her physical body.

GRYLES!!!
Rebuilding the Gryles Timeline expertly crafted here because I’m always afraid of broken links and people going private and losing data.
Not only is there a ton of great evidence that these guys were dating such as Harry leaving Nick’s place in the morning wearing the same clothes as he’d worn the night before, I’ve also got a friend who works in the UK music industry and she did tell me these guys did date. Nick is 100% out as gay so it really does all add up.
Gryles very obviously takes place during Haylor, debunking Harry as the 1989 muse, and if it’s not Harry you do have to wonder... who with green eyes and an obsession with Alice and Wonderland was heavily featured in Taylor’s life and then disappeared before 1989 - a breakup album about someone with green eyes who seems to relate to Alice in Wonderland drops?

This is a little game I like to call "let's talk about Nick/Harry dates and how they line up with Harry leaving and entering the country".

The morning of February 23rd One Direction flies to the US for their tour and doesn't return to the UK until April 24th, 2012.
This trip is supposedly where Haylor 1.0 happens. Harry supposedly meets Taylor at the KCA’s on March 31 and they fall for one another. Taylor supposedly goes to NYC to be with Harry (even though she spends the whole time with Dianna) during the first week of April. Then they supposedly enter into a long distance relationship that is broken up because Harry was seen out with another girl.
All the while the last thing Harry does before he leaves the UK is spend the night with Nick and then the first thing he does is goes back to him.
Yeah, I’m not buying Haylor 1.0 it seems pretty clear to me that Taylor wanted to pin I Knew You Were Trouble on Harry as a big pop anthem to support her transition to pop. I think it’s even possible they faked Harry being spotted out with that girl or perhaps he and Nick had some kind of agreement. I’m not saying Gryles was always exclusive (they may have been), but regardless I don’t see Red era Taylor being cool enough to share her boyfriend with a man.
12. April 25, 2012 - Nick and Harry out together the morning after he returned.
Harry also calls into Nick's radio show on the 25th and confirms that the first thing he did upon returning on the 24th was meet up with Nick and Matt Fincham for drinks so one can theorize he probably crashed w/ Nick that night.
Harry goes to LA by himself on May 1st and returns to the UK on the 5th.
May 5th, 2012 - Harry out with Annie Mac and Nick. (Thanks to my anon for clueing me into this little gem of information.)

We assume it was Harry, but w/o actual proof I don't want to say it concretely.

Powder Magazine

Growing up in Montana, my winter free time was consumed by skiing. Big Sky was the destination when I was barely old enough to walk. Eventually we made the move to Bozeman and Bridger Bowl became my second home. During the early years, my family made the trek to a handful of Warren Miller movies when they were on tour in the fall and Snow Country was the magazine subscription that landed on the coffee table. I was vaguely aware of Jackson Hole, Snowbird and Squaw Valley and my father would occasionally regale me with tales of skiing (read Après) in Germany when he was in the Army. At some level, I already understood that there was something special about Bridger, but realistically, my sphere of outside influence was quite small. Christmas of 1989 turned my entire world upside down. My aunt and uncle are longtime Salt Lake City residents and Brighton skiers. Typically they would send a package each year with the customary cookies, toffee and a card. However, this year they sent two VHS tapes and a magazine - Ski Time, Blizzard of Aahhh’s and a copy of Powder. Things would never be the same for me. Scot Schmidt became my hero, Greg Stump was taking skiing into uncharted territory and above it all, Powder created an eloquent voice for our sport and was the fabric that held things together. Even at my young age, everything that I’d intuitively sensed before was distilled into a potent desire to devote myself to the simple pursuit of being a skier.

Powder was founded in Sun Valley by the Moe brothers in 1972 as an annual portfolio of The Other Ski Experience. After several years of running the magazine, Jake and David Moe sold Powder to the owner of Surfer Magazine. A repurposed aircraft hangar in San Juan Capistrano became the new home of skiing’s most prestigious publication. Over time, there was an ebb and flow to the size of staff and cast of characters, each person leaving their unique mark. For decades Powder weathered corporate acquisitions, office relocations and the constant metamorphosis of the ski industry - never losing its voice, Powder remained the benchmark. It was a source of creativity, inspiration and a defacto annal of history. For many it was also a shining beacon, a glimpse into a world filled with deep turns and iconic destinations - even if this world could only be inhabited inside the constructs of your imagination.
My story and the impact Powder had on the direction I would take is hardly unique. The magazine left an indelible impression on countless skiers. When the news broke this fall that operations were being suspended indefinitely, a heartbroken community took to social media to pay homage to the magazine and how it changed their lives and in some cases, careers. This is my version of a tribute and it’s definitely not perfect. In order to gain some perspective, I reached out to former staff members - a collective I admire and respect. It’s an attempt to articulate the essence of Powder, capture its influence on the skiing landscape and give credit to the people who made it come to life.

“Skiing has always been really tribal and one of the last vestiges of having an oral history. Powder was a unique concept, because they weren’t really concerned with the family market. They were just concerned about being really into skiing. Growing up in Colorado and skiing moguls, my coaches Robert and Roger were featured in the early Greg Stump films. Being in their orbit, I knew a little bit about skiing culture and what was going on out there, but didn’t have the whole picture. The Stump films resonated with me, but Ski/Skiing Magazines didn’t really do it for me. Powder was the door that opened things culturally, it was the only entry point before Blizzard of Aahhh’s.”
“Something that nobody gives Powder credit for, is sponsoring the Greg Stump, TGR and MSP movies and giving them full support right from their inception. It legitimized those companies and helped them become one of the catalysts for change and evolution in skiing. Ultimately this change would have happened, but at a much slower pace without the support of Powder. Getting support from Powder meant they’d weeded out the posers and kooks and what they were backing wasn’t something or someone that was “aspiring” they were a cut above.”
“Powder brought a lot of things into the mainstream, raised awareness and helped to legitimize them: Jean-Marc Boivin, Patrick Vallencant, Pierre Tardivel, telemarking, monoskiing, snowboarding, the JHAF, Chamonix, La Grave, Mikaela Shiffrin, fat skis pre McConkey, skiing in South America….the list goes on.”
“I had some rowdy trips with Powder. Writing “Lost In America,” I went Utah-Montana-Fernie-Banff-Revelstoke via pickup truck, only backcountry skiing and camping in the mud. It was a month plus. I did another month plus in Nevada, which was after back to back Jackson and Silverton. Total time was two plus months. That was fucked up, I was super loose after that whole thing. So many sketchy days with total strangers”
“People forget that Powder was around long before the advent of the fucking pro skier. Starting in 1996, the magazine was in the impact zone of the ski industrial complex. There is limited space for content each season. It was a challenge to balance the pressure coming from the athletes and brands to cover something that was going to make them money vs. staying true to the Moe brothers original intent and profiling an eccentric skier, a unique location or even fucking ski racing.”

“When I was young, Ski/Skiing didn’t do anything for my spirit, but Powder lit me up. It ignited a passion in diehard skiers and gave them a voice and community. The contributions of so many talented individuals made the magazine possible. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who shared their experience at Powder with me. Also, I want to thank Porter Fox and David Page for crafting inspiring feature stories that I enjoyed immensely over the years.
After the reality set in that the final issue had arrived, a void was created for generations of skiers. I’ve been focused on being thankful for what we had, rather than sad it’s gone. It’s a challenging time for print media and I wholeheartedly advocate supporting the remaining titles in anyway you can. In a culture driven by a voracious appetite for mass media consumption and instant gratification - I cherish the ritual of waiting for a magazine to arrive, appreciating the effort that went into creating the content and being able to have that physical substance in my hand. Thanks for everything Powder, you are missed, but your spirit lives on.

What the hell is going on with the Grammys - a massive master post.
Buckle up; this is a mess.
So as we all know, Grammy nominations came out on Tuesday. And... whew there’s a lot to unpack. So this master post is (hopefully) going to explain all the different strands of this.
A disclaimer before we start: this is in no way bashing the artists who have been nominated. I am sure they all work immensely hard and although they submit themselves, most of them have 0 say in the nominations process. For the love of God - we’re not going after any individual artist.
(also, just for clarity and conciseness: this post is going to focus on the “Big 4″ in terms of nominations - Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of The Year and Album of the Year).
So - Best New Artist. As a category I’m happy with all the nominees - the criteria is weird as hell though (basically you can just keep submitting yourself up to 3 times? and it doesn’t matter how far into your career you are? ok I guess). I’d love for Phoebe Bridgers or Megan Thee Stallion to take it personally, but I’m happy with all the nominees. It’d be nice to see Blackpink get an acknowledgement but they could end up getting nominated next year because of eligibility dates. So yeah, no major issues with Best New Artist.
Just to clarify before we move on - Wikipedia has better definition of the difference between SOTY and ROTY so I’m just going to paste it here:
Record of the Year is awarded for a single or for one track from an album. This award goes to the performing artist, the producer, recording engineer and/or mixer for that song. In this sense, "record" means a particular recorded song, not its composition or an album of songs.
Song of the Year is also awarded for a single or individual track, but the recipient of this award is the songwriter who actually wrote the lyrics and/or melodies to the song. "Song" in this context means the song as composed, not its recording
ROTY: Record of the year ... it’s very safe. Rockstar, Say So, Everything I Wanted, Don’t Start Now, Circles and Savage were all expected. The Black Pumas song is an outlier but normally there’s a couple of smaller songs on the nominees list so not a complete surprise. Black Parade is also a bit of a turnup - it’s a great song and obviously had some momentum this summer but wasn’t huge . I was surprised not to see The Weeknd in this category (more on that later); would have nice to see BTS on the list but again, not shocking.
SOTY: A mix? I guess? Most of it is overlap from ROTY - but there’s a few different songs in the way of Cardigan, I Can’t Breathe and If The World Was Ending. Personally, I’m really happy that Cardigan and I Can’t Breathe are in there - my personal favorite would be I Can’t Breathe Winning. “If The World Was Ending” ... was there I guess? So congratulations.
AOTY: Oh boy. AOTY is a mix. So the less surprising inclusions: Folklore and Future Nostalgia. I do genuinely believe it’s a tossup between those two now as to who wins AOTY - I’m going to give the edge to Taylor right now because she’s won it before for Fearless and 1989 but I’m not sure the Recording Academy would give it to her 1 in 4 years ish consistently. Then again, Taylor is a Grammys darling and 2nd highest Metacritic score of the nominations, so it wouldn’t shock me. I’m shocked HAIM are nominated in the best possible way (it’s my personal AOTY), but the rest ... I’m stunned by. Djesse Vol 3 is also great but I don’t think it has a shot; Chilombo was good but not brilliant, Black Pumas got in with a deluxe version (yes it’s a good album, but it’s going to be close to 2 years old by the time the Grammys roll round), I’m not a massive fan of Hollywood’s Bleeding but Post Malone’s commercial impact can’t be denied. Coldplay is the one I find most bizarre - it wasn’t a particularly good album nor did it stick around commercially. So yeah - it would nice for HAIM to take it (I think they have a shot of pulling a “Golden Hour” and taking it home) but I’d be shocked if it didn’t go to Taylor.
So. Yes, there were some snubs - I thought Harry Styles would get a SOTY nomination, I was also expecting BTS to sneak into a couple of categories; Phoebe deserved an AOTY nomination and Rina Sawayama deserved some recognition. However.
WHERE THE FUCK IS THE WEEKND?
The Weeknd not getting a single nomination. How? No matter which way you look at it, Blinding Lights, should be up for ROTY or at least in the Pop categories. OK, so After Hours isn’t going to be one of the all time great albums, but you can’t look at that list and think “hmm, yes; they’re all objectively better than After Hours.” Because they’re not. That’s a fact. The Weeknd has spoken out against the Grammys in the past (which I’ll come to in a minute), but the truth of the matter is is that the Grammys are institutionally biased. Let’s roll back to 2015. In 2016, the nominees for AOTY were 1989, Beauty Behind The Madness, Sound & Color, To Pimp a Butterfly and Traveler. Thinking about this in terms of critical success, the Grammy should have gone to Kendrick for “To Pimp A Butterfly”. It went to 1989. Ok, so 1989 is a great album! and commercially, was the biggest selling album that year. So from, that (and the following year, where 25 won over Lemonade) we could deduce that the Grammy focuses on the album that’s made the most commercial impact. HOWEVER: if we carry this logic into 2021, none of the nominees make any sense. Surely if they did, then only Folklore and Future Nostalgia would be on their. No matter how you look at it, After Hours straddled the line of being inescapable for a year and of getting great reviews. It should have been nominated for AOTY and that’s the bottom line of it.
So why wasn’t it?
Probably The Weeknd criticizing the Grammys previously didn’t help. But according to that bastion of news, TMZ, he was given the choice between performing at the Grammys or at Superbowl. The Weeknd negotiated, and agreed to do both. He was announced to be performing at the Superbowl on 12th November (link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-54921206) . Grammy noms come out on the 24th, TMZ reports he was given the choice between Superbowl and Grammys about 8 hours after the nominations (https://www.tmz.com/2020/11/24/the-weeknd-ultimatum-grammys-super-bowl-performance-snub/) . Then, The Weeknd tweets this maybe an hour later (https://twitter.com/theweeknd/status/1331394452447870977). To add insult to injury, he went from being in “negotiations to perform” to no nominations. Now that’s a kick in the teeth.
A day later, the president of the Grammys, Harvey Mason Jr. does an interview with Variety (https://variety.com/2020/music/news/grammy-harvey-mason-weeknd-snub-show-1234839208/). Gives a load of non-answers as expected. But he does talk about the Grammy committee.
We don’t know much about how the Grammy voting process works. If you’re a member, you listen to the songs in the categories and then vote. BUT THEN. The top 20 songs/albums go to the committee. There’s 20 people on the committee - some with direct links to labels and artists. So they could hypothetically pick songs ranked 15-20 and nominate then. Which is why I think The Weeknd was majorly snubbed. I think The Weeknd got into the top 20 in all the categories he was nominated in and the committee overruled. That’s my theory anyway. The Grammys have been problematic for years - but since I’ve been following then from 2015ish - they’ve been accused racism (lack of BAME winners), sexism (remember the “well women should make better music” comments in 2018 https://variety.com/2018/music/news/grammys-so-male-women-recording-academy-president-neil-portnow-1202679902/) and then the mysterious ousting of Deborah Dugan at the start of last year (https://www.vox.com/2020/1/26/21082057/2020-grammys-sexual-harassment-corruption-recording-academy-deborah-dugan-rigged-nominations).
When Deborah Dugan was fired, she alleged sexual misconduct and voter corruption in the academy. (If I can find a copy of the original PDF I will, https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/jan/22/suspended-grammys-chief-deborah-dugan-alleges-sexual-misconduct-in-recording-academy). But honestly the article speaks for itself. The grammys are corrupt, and not a true measure of artistic integrity.
So, as much as I find them fascinating - let’s not give them any more weight then they deserve. If your fave has a nomination, great! If not, it doesn’t make them any less of an artist. 2020 has been a fabulous year for music, so let’s concentrate on that.

When @taylorswift owns your life and you have to email your professor explaining why your paper is late:
Hi Professor,
So I know my paper is late but you see Grammy award winning, singer-song writer, cat lover, born in 1989, pop superstar Taylor Swift kind of claimed my life for the past 3 days and I’ve been very distracted. You see I woke up Thursday morning with every intention of writing my paper only to find that there was a livestream showing fans gathering at a butterfly mural in Nashville for no other reason than it vaguely resembling her Instagram aesthetic. So like every other Swifitie on the planet I tuned in. As time goes by more and more people gather for absolutely no apparent reason. I mean the cops are there, television crews, radio people. For absolutely no fucking reason other than that this butterfly has some cats in it and Taylor likes cats. So I’m watching this on my laptop and am on Tumblr on my phone (multitasking is key). And the Swifitie fandom is dying. We can’t believe these people are making us look like boo boo the fool again, especially after the whole five holes in the fence embarrassment. Five holes in the fence you ask? Let me digress.
I want to take you back to the 24th of February when Miss Swift posted a photo of 7 palms trees with the caption of 7 palm tree emoji’s. Swifties were like “is this a clue”, “what does this mean?”. Next came a photo a photo of her sitting on some stairs. So Swifties got out their calculators and used their math skills once again and decided that Taylor was indeed sitting on the sixth step. “Could this be a countdown?” Swifities everywhere began asking themselves. Pandemonium. New music is coming. We have cracked the code….or so we thought. One day later Taylor posts another photo of her standing behind a fence. A FENCE WITH FIVE HOLES (I mean we had got good at counting by this point). “This has to be a countdown”, said the Swifities. I mean we had the fricken news reporting on this so-called countdown. Taylor Swift obviously saw our stupidity and our crackhead theories and decided to call out of stupidity on Instagram to her 116 million follows and reject the countdown we had made up in our heads… We won’t even talk about her dragging us on national television.
Still following? Ok. Back to the livestream. So Tumblr is complete chaos. We cannot believe hundreds of people have gathered around this mural for absolutely no reason, yet 2 hours have gone by and we are all still watching this tomfoolery. We are asking begging Taylor to put these clown Swifites out their misery and send them home. And then after three hours of staring at a butterfly mural, THE TAYLOR ALISON SWIFT shows up and takes selfies with every. single. person. And is all like “oh hey see this cool mural I had made” and then leaves. But not before convincing us we have to watch the NFL draft that night to find out more about her new music.
Now you may be thinking well you had five hours between the livestream and the NFL draft you could’ve done your paper. And you would be incorrect. You see I had actually stopped breathing by this point and had to wait for someone to come resuscitate me. After being resurrected from the dead, 8pm comes around and I’m tuning into the NFL draft even though I know nothing about American football. Couldn’t name a single team. I mean what does NFL even stand for? Not important.
So I’m watching the draft because Taylor owns my heart (body and soul) waiting for her to drop us a bone. Miss Swift shows up looking like a glitter rainbow goddess and tells her song ME! Comes out at midnight with Brendon Urie from Panic! At the disco. WWHHHHHAAAATTTTTT! Once again I’ve forgotten how to breathe, I’m in a full body sweat and quite honestly I need to be heavily sedated. You could say I was all PANIC and no DISCO. I honestly don’t remember what happened between now and midnight. I think I blacked out.
Midnight rolls around (not really it was the longest wait of my entire life), and Taylor releases A FRICKEN BOP. I mean did we expect anything less? No. Taylor said you can’t spell AWESOME without ME and she is correct. Taylor is smart. For obvious reasons I can’t just watch it once. I must watch it on repeat. I must learn every lyric. I must know every piece of choreography. I must learn french.
By now it is around 5:30am, and I decide to get a solid hour of sleep before having to get up to watch GMA for a Taylor Swift interview. I roll out of bed and assume my position on the couch and tune in only to discover that GMA has done something bad and punk’d Swifities with no new interview or announcement. Bad GMA. So this is when I decide to go be productive and actually write my paper. Good Tegan.
Minding my own business, writing my paper, Taylor Swift decides to go live on Instagram and roast us for missing obvious clues in the music video. I mean you can see the shock in her face at our stupidity and lack of attention to detail. CHAOS follows. I was the opposite of JE SUIS CALME. We must not let our leader down. We must band together and crack this code. So for the next several hours I am watching the ME! Video repeatedly. IN SLOW MOTION. I have a notebook out and am taking notes. We had to redeem ourselves after the five holes in the fence mess. We have to be the FBI detectives that Taylor told us we are. So for the rest of the evening, along with every other Swifitie, I am trying to crack this darn clue. I am going from YouTube to Instagram to Tumblr to Twitter back to YouTube. It was a mess (and not the mess that Taylor wanted).
So this brings me to today. The mystery is still not solved and we are clowns. I know I am getting an MA in Forensic Psychology and should be able to crack these clues but you see Miss Swift has been watching Law and Order for many years and she is a pro. And after the whole five holes in the fence fiasco we have really lost our touch.
I apologize for my paper being late and a total and utter mess but as you can see I had other more pressing matters to deal with.

THE DEGENERATE’S GUIDE TO COLLEGE FOOTBALL TV WATCH ‘EM UPS 2021: WEEK THREE: THE END OF THE BEGINNING OF THE END
We’re still really in the early middle of the year. Sure, Oregon looked powerful against Ohio State but it’s possible Ohio State just hasn’t found it’s footing yet and the Ducks just peaked. Shit happens like that every year, more or less. You can pretty much count on Bama to win 10 and not much else. That only applies to football. The continued stratification of social classes, the accelerating collapse of natural systems that support human life, the complete lack of representation the average American in our freedom loving democracy- you can count on those things. Football is different, though: wilder but more ordered while somehow being better and stupider than real life all at the same time. It’ll be fun to all more or less die together, I think. So let’s get to the games!
I forget the business reason for having more major OOC games that actually stay on the schedule but we’re reaping the rewards for now. You know the rules: eastern times, average vegas odds at the time of writing, prediction abilities are bad on a good day, there’s supposed to be a weekly RTARLsman post but I haven’t done a real one in about 21 months, formatting errors up to and including listing the teams incorrectly aren’t worth pointing out because nobody’s coming to fix them anyway. I don’t expect professionalism out of you so don’t ask it out of me.

I find it hard to believe Albany’s football program is in such disrepair that they don’t even warrant a line against Syracuse. I think we’ve had five 1AA-over 1A upsets so far this season. I couldn’t possibly watch this game but I’ll keep an eye out for it on the ticker. Syracuse is bad enough to lose anywhere to anybody.

I should probably find a site that lists the good games at the top of each time slot instead of this free for all.

Pitt has actually looked pretty good so far but they don’t have an AP ranking yet. I can’t say much for this matchup so I just assume the Panthers cover the -14.5 and get a little number next to their name next week.

This is actually of some interest to me. Virginia Tech is ranked 15 on account of beating UNC but it’s not hard to imagine that neither the Hokies nor the Heels are actually worthy of a ranking. WFV is favored at home but still might trigger some couch burning and “upset” talk with a win. The Mountaineers are this week’s new collection from Homefield Apparel so expect some magic!

Old Big East rivalry game. Nobody can look away.

I thought Chattanooga had moved up to 1A but there’s no line listed for this game so I guess not.

Indiana was good last year and maybe that was just a once-in-a-generation fluke but I’ve still got visions of the Hoosiers toppling Cincy and ruining their theoretically possible playoff run. I’m assuming the Bearcats won’t play anybody else better than IU this year but that’s just a guess backed by historical precedent which isn’t a thing you should really use to gamble on college football.
16 Coastal Carolina at Buffalo 12:00pm ESPN2
Chanticleers vs. Bulls, the eternal struggle writ in football. I don’t think the CSUNY school is particularly good this year but Coastal being favorited by 14 points in an early kickoff road games still feels like a trap to this sharp.
Michigan State at 24 Miami (FL) 12:00pm ABC
Surprisingly to me, this is the fifth all-time meeting of these two schools. Just as surprising to me, Miami has never before lost to Michigan State. Weird but makes sense if you think about it, this will be the fourth out of five matchups played in Miami. As near as I can tell, Sparty tried to use the Canes the same way Notre Dame used to as an in-season bowl game but bailed on the idea when they kept losing. To be fair, Sparty’s record in bowl games isn’t that much better than their 0-4 against Miami. The last time these two met was 1989 when Percy Snow was on his way to the Butkus Award and Miami was on their way to a third National Championship. The Hurricanes team was pretty well-stacked but is probably the least remembered of their title teams. This year’s Miami roster might look good in 30 years but right now they’re a little messy. D’Eriq King is only 8 months removed from ACL surgery (if you watch the game you will hear about this several hundred time) and has so far looked bad on his throws and a touch slower than he has in the past. Which makes sense given the timeframe but does not generally bode well for Miami’s prospects for this season.

Swifty Unload: She’s The Only One of Her
For what music video was Taylor Swift receiving an award in 2009, aged only 19, when Kanye interrupted to say she didn’t deserve it? ‘You Belong With Me,’ a video featuring Taylor in a marching band as a symbol of being ‘the dork in the bleachers’ vs ‘the cool girl cheerleader.’
Pretty ironic when you think about the ‘cool girl’ Kanye implied was superior to Taylor in that moment and who she today stands accused of ‘copying.’ The very video Kanye claimed wasn’t worthy of the award contained the very subject matter Taylor is supposed to have now copied a decade later from that supposedly superior artist.
On a personal note, having just fallen in love with Taylor at 25 years of age after being immersed in her music for months prior as a US Summer Camp counsellor to 15-16 year old girls, all ‘Kanye Interrupts’ served to do was convert me into an all-out dyed-in-the-wool Swifty for life because I was so in awe of her humility, integrity and composure. Her performance after was a friggin’ banger, especially in light of what she’d experienced immediately before.
Throughout the Fearless Tour in 2009-2010, the tour Taylor was performing before and after ‘Kanye Interrupts,’ she opened her show nightly marching down stairs in a marching band outfit surrounded by her cast in YELLOW uniforms.... ahem.... an image her fans strongly identify her and the fandom with.
As the ‘1989’ era was coming to a close in late 2015 Taylor had been prepping a new era when Kanye once again sabotaged her in early 2016; having phoned to run only ONE of TWO very unflattering lyrics by her, Kanye’s wife then strategically released the illegal video he’d filmed without Taylor’s consent to mislead people into believing Taylor is a liar and a ‘snake.’
However cool she was trying to play it to preserve the friendship, fans (and any intelligent person) can hear she wasn’t thrilled with “Me and Taylor might still have sex,” she goes to great effort to make the phone call about everything BUT that vulgar lyric, such is her generosity of spirit. Which is likely why Kanye omitted “I made that bitch famous” from the conversation, I’m sure he knew as well as Taylor’s fans know that she would never have been comfortable with such an anecdote. Nonetheless the world bought Kimye’s twisted bullshit version of the story – in spite of the obvious absence of the highly offensive second lyric from the highly illegal video – and Taylor pivoted from the era she had been creating and instead created ‘Reputation.’
‘Reputation’ is littered with clues about the content she had already created prior to her pivot in 2016, content it’s now clear she always planned to return to post-Reputation. Most clear now is the prevalence of the word ‘me’ throughout the album and particularly the lyric ‘Reputation precedes Me’ that tells us the concept of ‘ME!’ was created prior to Reputation but was instead reassigned to follow it.
In her 2017 Reputation era ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ video, ‘Reputation Taylor’ stands atop a literal pile of ‘Old Taylors’ all fighting to survive, one of them is the marching band Taylor from 2009. We all know the Reputation Taylor isn’t the ‘Real Taylor’ though, at the end of the video the Real Taylor is standing quietly behind all the Fake Taylors the media has created; the Real Taylor is clad in the aesthetic we’ve been seeing emerge in this new 2019 era that ‘ME!’ has now launched.
This year it’s been 10 years since ‘Kanye Interrupts,’ since the Fearless era that heavily featured marching bands as a symbol of Taylor’s dorky uncool individual identity. A decade of being torn apart for doing her damned best to manage being mistreated by not one but two other artists she considered friends. Having delivered the Reputation message about the world wrongly defining her identity, Taylor is now launching a new era all about embracing your authentic self – “I’m the only one of me.”
To anyone that knows who Taylor really is, it’s no surprise that a marching band plays a key role in the ‘ME!’ video and aesthetic, that she would launch this era using a marching band as a positive image of self-love – it makes total sense. At the climax of the video, ‘strike the band up, 1-2-3,’ she is surrounded by her pastel marching band in a bright plaza of happiness, embracing the uncool dork that she is, dancing to the beat of her own drum.
That’s what ‘ME!’ and this forthcoming era is all about, embracing who she knows she really is in the infinite happiness she’s found in life after pushing through soul-crushing nonsense. The ‘Old Taylor’ isn’t really dead, Reputation didn’t kill her, all those Old Taylors are the sum of who she is and who her fans have loved so dearly for so long. Of course she featured her long held marching band aesthetic as she makes her metamorphosis into this kaleidoscope era of love and light to embrace her true self. We’re proud to be the dorky marching band crowd and so is she!
If you still don’t buy this small selection of cold, hard Swift facts and evidence: How about the fact that ‘ME!’ features Brendon Urie, frontman of ‘Panic! At The Disco’, a band who have also featured a marching band aesthetic in a music video and who are frequently synonymous with actual real life marching bands?
So the question is more ‘Why WOULDN’T Taylor include a marching band aesthetic in the ‘ME!’ concept?
As a fan that came on board this train in 2009 and was introduced to Taylor as very much ‘the Marching Band Girl’ and also as a fan of P!ATD, it’s just fucking wild to me that anyone would claim using a marching band in the ‘ME!’ performance could have anything to do with one brief aspect of some other artist’s single two-hour performance just 12 months ago. How does this outrage even hold weight against the solid year of marching band Taylor did a decade ago and P!ATD’s known affiliation with the image?
You don’t have to like Taylor, different strokes for different folks. If Beyoncé is your jam then all the power to you. But we’ll be over here ‘on the bleachers,’ ‘listening to the kind of music you don’t like,’ loving our girl sick with light and love and not accusing your girl of copying our girl by using a yellow marching band aesthetic almost a decade after our girl. And we’re not at all mad that your girl tried to make our dork symbol cool either, not one bit! We’re too busy soaking up the sheer jubilance of this carefully-curated long-anticipated rainbow Real Taylor era unfolding with each exciting day that goes by.
So go ahead and enjoy your Beychella that took 8 months to create and rehearse and we’ll enjoy our ‘ME!’ music video and BBMAs performance that each took a few days to produce.

Shadowhunters Drama-O-Rama...(a long rant and reflection)
First…the Malec Kiss was adorable…can’t wait to see the FULL Content…there better be a FULL content!!
…and now let’s rant about the drama. There’s two 10 seconds teasers…2 teasers…which means…it’s just a tease, not a full trailer…That’s all we’re getting at the moment…a tease. And yes, there’s more “seconds” of contents on some characters vs. others…and yet somehow a war began!!!…and old wounds are open again…and to be truthful the contents are not a surprise at all. (Jace is not Clary’s brother, Simon and Clary are dating…Malec relationship is expanding…Izzy is pushing Raphael away…Luke is standing intensively…nothing was really new, just random clips, don’t get me wrong as a Malec shipper, the kiss was sweet).
I am going to say this…because I feel like I need to put another side out there…agree or not, it’s doesn’t really matter to me at the end of the day…so here it’s goes…this show is not about JUST Clary…and her name might go first in the credits but it’s called “Shadowhunters”…not something like “Buffy the Vampire Slayers”…and even in Buffy, there were episodes that focused on the other characters and their development. It’s not, Clary the Shadowhunter…she is NOT the only main character and yes it’s not the Malec Show…but it’s NOT the Clace show either. True, the relationships are important and the characters are essential. But, this show does have a bigger theme. In general, it’s a supernatural show, about good vs evil…, etc. One of the plots coming up is the Downworlders going to be treated with restrictions…like today’s reflections on the immigration laws that we are currently living in.
This is not the books. It’s “based” off the books. I understand this might piss off a lot of the loyalists of the books, but they did attempt to do a movie franchise…but they failed. Even the movie took some “artistic license” and change things. It had the potential to be the next Twilight or Hunger Games…but it didn’t make the cut. Even with the failure of the movie, it’s still holds some potential to be something. So, When a series of books get pick up as a show, it opens more doors, meaning things are going to change even more. It’s also means there’s more room for more characters development and more storylines.
The books centered on mostly Clary…Jace, and Simon perspectives with Izzy, Magnus, Alec, Luke…etc…as the supporting characters. That’s the author’s choices. That was the books, this is not the books. The show will take parts and influences of the books, but it’s going to shine more light in other perspectives that wasn’t explored in the books…that’s a given. The creators, showrunners, writers, producers, directors…are going to make choices that will and “has” made many people either happy or really fucking pissed. That’s a given. Even the author called the show, “a fanfiction.” She knows what she sign her rights off to. Like Marvel, Star Wars…Disney owns them now. She has to know that, things will change. And her loyalists should know that too.
A lot of key aspects made it into the show…it’s not like the show abandon everything…like the main ships are there…they are in development. Climon did happen in the books before Clace. Clary is discovering and exploring her rune creating skills…Jace has Daddy’s issues…Alec is out and openly gay…Magnus and Camille trouble relationships…the Shadowhunters discrimination against the Downworlders…it’s not like it’s not there, it’s just delivered with different tones and directions.
So, yes it’s Clary’s perspectives and Clace is THE relationship in the books…but yet every popular polls, awards, and marketing has centered on the two LGBT characters. There’s a reason why and it’s very clear, very…VERY clear reason why…they are the most popular characters on the show, some people don’t have to like it but it’s fact. They are what most people want to see. Even non-fans, are aware of them. They are getting noticed, competing with big ships like Olicity and Stydia…basically…THEY ARE BEING CELEBRATED just like those other ships. And they should be.
So, if the Malec fandom is making some of you mad, that’s you’re prerogative. Most of the “negativity” comes from years and years of hurt. I know it’s just a show and it’s for entertainment, but you must understand that a picture say a thousands of words. When you were little and all those heroes and characters that you grew up reading about in school, watch on TV…in the movies,…on stage…they were always in the characteristics of the “default.” White and Straight…but you look at them and you look at you…sure you might relate to their morals, their journey…their struggles…but no matter what, you still never be their equal. You’re different and people won’t treat your story, the same as them. When will someone that looks like you get to be the hero, the main character? And when you see a guy like Magnus and a guy like Alec…as individuals and as a couple, it’s something special and the reactions to them, is heart warming and welcoming.
Do you know in 1989…when they created a new Robin for the Batman comics after the death of Jason Todd, Tim Drake…the creators wanted him to be Asian, but were told that the public won’t respond to him…won’t relate to him. So, he’s not. You heard about it before, we can’t get this person, they won’t sell tickets..that’s why in 2017, Scarlett Jo can play Japanese..and guess what? Her movie flopped and they lost $60 millions dollars in profit. And one of the executives of paramount even had admitted that their failure was due to the Whitewashing controversy and blamed the audience for spreading “the truth”. I am sure it was really hard for them to admit to that.
Now, currently the new Robin is Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s blood related son…he is canonically…Caucasian, Arabic, and Chinese…yet I have seen fan dream casting him…as White. That’s how some people respond…to years of being told that this is what the people want to see…but recently with the talks about the bat-family being created for the DCEU movies…and a possible Tim Drake being casted…fans are positively rooting for Ryan Potter…who is Japanese and White. See, people are speaking and demanding for change…just how people wanted Donald Glover to be the next Spider-Man…yet it didn’t happen but the people wanted him to be. It was massively trending. And he got a lot hate too, but there was a louder and positive support for him.
Alright, back to the program…
This isn’t new, there’s multiple fandoms with that one ship that’s stands out. This one ship is a big deal because, it’s an LGBT and an interracial relationship…and true, there’s other LGBT and interracial couples out there in the media, but are they getting the press, the mass acknowledgement, winning awards,…do they have a big fandom like this? A fandom that would trend them on multiple social media outlets. Name another couple with this representations with this massive love?…And they have been popular since the books, but they were never this popular until Malec were given flesh and pulses.
The most important thing is perspectives…telling people and reminding people that this show is about this person or that person, is meaningless and stressful. Because people are individuals with their own perspectives and they going to support what they want. If you’re there for Clary and Clace, you will get them…season 1 was very Clace focused…and Clary focused and if you’re there for Malec and want more Malec, you will get Malec…how much of it (we will see) and there are people who is still very angry with the choices that was made with Malec in 2a and some are not.
For me, I watch the show, I saw too much Clace…but another person will tell me…this is becoming the Malec Show. That’s what they saw vs what I saw. I saw 1 minute of Malec interaction scene in 1 episode and I was pissed. There was literally an episode where Harry had one scene…he called Alec for drinks…and that’s it. The rest was centered on Alec, Clary, and Simon interacting. And Luke…literally do I need to remind you about the treatment there. So, if you’re going to compare this and that. If you’re going to get Mad, because Clary isn’t getting the fair treatment because it’s apparently the Clary’s show, you jumping to privilege thinking and that’s a dark place to go…trust me, there’s plenty of Clary and Jace in the show…but the fame light is on Malec. It’s because the people, the fans that shined...that light on them.
So, I can be mad if I choose to be, when I did see less of this character and of this relationship…and yes, you also tell me that this is the Clary’s show and the Clace’s show…and that’s your perspective. That’s you. Be you. But also be open minded, Shadowhunters is a diverse shows…it’s aiming was to be open. It’s still has its flaws, but I hope it’s a show that’s listens to the fans. That’s a whole bag of another drama.
You can choose to be mad or passive, you can avoid the negativity, just scroll on by or follow people that think like you. It’s your choice. But why not be open minded…you are watching a diverse show. Why not understand that their aim is bigger now?
I wanted more Malec, to be honest…I had a good serving of Clace while reading the books. I like them, I ship them…and I care about them…and they will be there as much as the other characters are, but I want more characters to shine now. And there is room for more development for the other characters. It’s ambitious, but why the hell not!
When Leonard told Sheldon…don’t go thinking outside the box, but then go rub your ass against the side of the box…that Isn’t progress.
(This is nothing against the actors of the show, they really are sweet people and have been openly supportive of the representations…and my aim wasn’t to anti- this person or this ship…I just wanted to say this…if you don’t agree…scroll on by, might be a long scroll though).
