I just found your blog the other day but I thought you'd be someone willing to rage with me. Someone I'm FB friends with just wrote the following in a FB post: "Taika Waititi is precious for finally giving Thor substance in Ragnarok. Just watched Thor 1 & 2, he was trash." I'M IN A BLIND RAGE PLEASE JOIN ME.

First of all, thank you. :)Second, I am putting this under the cut. Because this is looong.

I am confident in saying that absolutely no one hates this movie more than I do. I have blocked everything and everyone from MY LIFE who said this movie was good. Yeah, true story.

You are talking about someone you are friends with, who may not even be a ‘qualified’ reviewer (not that their opinions don’t matter). But I have seen actual reviewers hail this movie as the best thing ever. Not regular people like you and me, but literal reviewers whose only job is to watch movies and who know movies like The Dark Knight and Deadpool exist.

Forbes said this was the best Thor movie cause it finally gave Thor/Chris the spotlight to shine.

Jon Campea said clown!thor may seem jarring at first but gradually gets closer to the Thor in the team thor shorts and it just seems like a natural progression. (Wow, okay. So this joke of a reviewer thinks Thor should be closer to the 2 min PARODY vids and not the 4 full-blown canonical movies. Let that sink in.)

Grace of beyondthetrailer who already thought Whedon was the only one who understood Thor (b*tch!!!!), said Waitutu just continued on that and is of the firm belief that Thor3 is 1st of the 2 movies Waitutu would make.

The Collider crew of idiots loved it cause it’s fun and disregarded the first 2 boring movies and kicked out his boring gf who slowed him down.

Honest trailers said that even though it dispenses the prev movies and cuts every moment with bathos, it’s easily the best Thor movie because reasons, so you should not be mad that it tries to make you laugh. (Do they even realise how wrong that sentence is? That is not how cinema works, go back to kindergarten.)

So if actual reviewers are saying this, I can only imagine regular people who can just make a post wherever they like, would obviously spew even worse unchecked BS. I’m not on FB, but this is the platform where people think Fifty Shades Darker was the most anticipated movie of 2017. Reddit is just herd mentality - Homecoming is a masterpiece, Ragnarok is a masterpiece, Black Panther is a masterpiece, IW is a masterpiece. And Tumblr, lol. This hellhole is not even worth commenting on.

Luckily, I never cared abt all of the above opinions. The people whose opinions I do care about, are on board with me. My real life friends didn’t like it, my sibling say they have no interest in watching this tripe whatsoever. My friends here despise it.

The only reviewer I follow, JeremyJahns, gave it a 3/5 as it was entertaining no doubt but he couldn’t comprehend why Thor was a parody of himself now (he’d given thor1 5/5 and thor2 4/5). IGN tore it a new one - and so very politely! :D

So basically what I’m trying to say is, I totally understand the rage at the stupidity of this person’s post. But you have to understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion. Even beyond asinine, completely wrong opinions. If they think quoting memes = substance, I feel sorry for them. Personally, I would never interact with someone like that ever again, and leave them to their dumbness. But that may be just me.
