i just finished buffy season 2. my mind is swirling with many thoughts and feelings and opinions, but the number 1 line item is.... kendra deserved a whole lot more. they didn't need to bring her back for 3 scenes just to kill her. nobody NEEDED to die in that episode, and frankly they had a whole cast of white regular and recurring characters to kill that would have had a deeper emotional impact on buffy. it's just disappointing. i'd remembered her having a much bigger spotlight in her last episode than she actually did.

it just feels like they tested the waters of showing buffys dynamic with another slayer, but were too racist to commit to making a black woman a recurring character. i adore eliza obviously but of COURSE it's the white slayer who became a huge part of the universe. it's such a missed opportunity. (a lot of people point to the accent being the heart of the problem but i call aggressive bullshit on that. they let james and alexis stumble thru accents for maaaaaany episodes before they made it sound vaguely natural. and thats not even addressing davids ~irish~ accent lol)

anyway kendra is a precious angel baby princess, a tiny asskicking nerd who named her favorite stake MR POINTY, who had a competitive relationship with buffy, who died trying to save buffys friends, guarding them while they tried to save angel, a girl who deserved love and a life and friends and to fucking survive. and if they were dead set on her dying from a tiny shallow cut from a fingernail, she deserved to be resurrected. OR HEY, HERE'S A NOTION! DRU SHOULD HAVE TURNED HER!!!!!!!!!!! FUCKING IMAGINE THAT!!!!!!!!!!! we spent years discussing whether sunday the vampire could have been an undead slayer, we should have seen the real thing. that would have been sooooooooo much fun.
