for obvious reasons in many ways I'm glad that syd was the only member of the band that really got into the psychedelic scene but maybe if at least one of them actually knew shit they wouldn't have thought "oh the american tour will be good for his health we'll give him weed instead and keep him away from the acid" well fun fact if you've done a lot of psychedelics they can not only reset your tolerance level for THC (not to mention that US weed was much stronger than UK weed at the time), but they can also completely change how your body physiologically responds to it, frequently causing people to hallucinate while stoned when that never happened before. so no wonder syd was still so out of it on that tour. "~oh my god he's too fargone he's watching a cereal box like a tv~" YEAH! because he's still fucking tripping!!!

#of course he was also definitely combining weed and acid back home. and a little bit of weed makes a little bit of acid go a long way #which is good advice if you want to have fun. but if youve done so much that youre in danger? it's a warning that should be taken seriously #I think there's been a lot of unintentional harm caused by presenting weed as a less hardcore drug than LSD #like yes. in general it is.#but remember kids: drugs interact with each other. so please do your research #to be fair. in 1967 it was still very much the drug wild west and a lot of people didn't know/couldn't have known these things #i hesitate sometimes to bring these things up bc I never want to hypocritically contribute to the mythology surrounding syd's mental health #but I -do- feel I have enough knowledge to at least talk about the drug component in a way that is grounded in real information #syd barrett
