idk how to tell people how commonly used fentanyl is not just for palliative care and long term pain management (believe it or not, for some cases, fentanyl patches can be the LEAST risky option addiction wise) but during surgeries. like it's a very common component in general anaesthesia. if you've ever been put under for major surgery, you've probably been given fentanyl! you just don't remember it because you were probably also given ketamine or something similar.
Been slowly scrolling back through my inbox and queuing up answers. Finally got back to two weeks ago when I mentioned the hospital gave me fentanyl, and the number of "alarmed" messages I got from non-followers lecturing me about taking such a "dangerous drug" has me rolling.
Like c'mon. First of all, it was a one-time dosage to knock me out for a procedure that didn't even knock me out, and second of all, I'm not a fucking cop <3
#signed as someone who has actually overdosed on fentanyl in real life#it can be scary sure#but it's only really scary because in a street setting the dosing is almost never reliable or consistent#and you may not even know you're consuming it#as it's a common cut for other opioids and for benzos#and occasionally turns up elsewhere due to what i only assume is cross contamination#but in a medical setting? there's so many levels of quality control and precision dosing that you are perfectly safe#unless you intentionally do something risky like sucking on a patch#tldr you only need to be afraid of fentanyl if you are using street substances or are drugged by another person#if the former option is you: please invest in fentanyl test strips and narcan. dancesafe and nalaxoneforall are there for you#fentanyl works hard but narcan works harder#with modern emergency medicine and good samaritan laws an OD doesn't have to be a death sentence#and finally: never use alone#but none of this is relevant to OPs actual point which is why i'm sticking it in the tags#it's just obligatory information for my followers
