#titanic tourism is a fucking problem and it's about to kill five people

no it's so much worse because

1-the thing was *privately made* and not inspected by any regulatory body either civilian or military as far as I can find, though the company that made and owns it claims they worked with Boeing and NASA and University of Washington to design and build the sub but I am doubting how much effort went into the thing because

2-the damn thing had to be *bolted closed* and the people inside the sub cannot open it from the inside, which seems like a massive fucking design flaw for a tourist attraction (and also means they could be surfaced already and just bobbing in an enclosed capsule unable to get out), but that leads me to another design flaw

3-the thing also, supposedly, has 4 days worth of air inside it. So, imagine Iron Lung but for real with 4-5 other people inside with you complete with a bucket only for pissing in and no seats standing room only. The story is maybe 10 hours old at this point, which likely means the sub's been missing for 10+ hours before that. They have maybe 3 days of air left, assuming the sub is still in tact and just lost down there.

4-it's also supposed to have a failsafe button that the crew operating the thing should be able to just push and go up, like an elevator. (as described in this article and it's actually the same sub in this article) That they haven't popped up yet further leads me to believe it was not well designed from the start.

basically, my point is, there's 4 people and a british millionaire who are living Iron Lung down there (assuming best case scenario that they just lost contact and are wandering around with no idea where they are) and they are running out of time. This is every submariner's worst nightmare and it's happening right on top of the titanic

and none of this is touching the worst case scenarios (among which is the idea that this thing lost ballast and is stuck sitting on top of the titanic itself, damaging the wreck and condemning everyone in it to death and we won't be able to confirm that for months if not years because the prepwork into organizing a scientific or rescue dive of any kind to the site is a nightmare of international paperwork and weather watching) (which means, yes, they will likely die down there and if where they fell isn't found they'll be lost for years if not outright forever)
