how im feelin rn, and this is all from the perspective of a guy who JUST plays jin.... more below. and i think everyone on this list is REALLY viable sans like, the bottom 3 but even then you can get to GoD on anyone online with the right mindset
S tiers
reinas godlike in all regards, can enter when she wants, has incredible whiff punishment, a near-generic df2, the works. mixes that you can respond to, but she can then change her response so you can never give a comfortable answer. buuusted dmg and wall carry too. fuck reina. regardless of what character youre playing, she has an inherent edge from roundstart that you cant erase, you have to punish her for mistakes and if theyre NOT making a lot of those youre fucked
nina
INSANE dmg, her jab pressure canceling thing makes it so you really cant contest her like you would someone else, her power crush is absolutely incredible too. sway for evasion, incredible lows... safe mids... good tracking... the gun moves are FULL SCREEN and INSANE chip too. also generic df2, ch launching 20 frame low, i could go on. shes nuts.
feng
good for all the tekken 7 reasons and then throw in the 8 mechanics. if you manage to play this guy with a tekken 8 style of aggression you are fucked. hes just too good at playing off of very little risk for big reward consantly, you gotta hang yourself to respond (which is a theme for the top tiers!)
A tiers
xiaoyu is fucked. some chars are a much better matchup against her compared to jin, but she can really erase her hitbox from the match which really takes a lot of your mixes from the table. so if you cant take your frames back, she essentially gets to bully you endlessly while you hope they overextend themselves. you have to be so so patient against xiaoyu but youre never rewarded with anything other than a normal neutral situation, esp if the xiaoyu isnt taking big ass risk.
shaheen is really, really, really, really good at poking. his df1 is enough to carry his character, honestly. its -1 on block, tracks to both sides (well not technically left but its sticky), lows that track to his weak side that set up for a mix, great dmg, safe everything, AND a slide mix. with the risk reward skewed more towards pressing, he can press good tekken 7 style buttons more than the other char can
alisa is moronic. 2nd best sidestep, chainsaws completely pin you down, good powercrush, damage, wall carry, throw game, evasion... her backdash, like the single backdash, can also evaporate a lot of your pressure if you buffer too much. also the changes to some of her lows make it so they jail for some reason, so her pressure is really non committal for her. So good
lili is really really really good at mixing you constantly. b1 into dew glide is just a free no strings attached guessing game that your opponent has to suffer from. f4 is just a better version of bryans 3+4 and jins f4. and you can NOT hit this motherfucker, the best sidestepping in the game PERIOD. a lot of built in evasion to her moves too. oh and her feisty rabbit bullshit is a free 50/50, no answer other than guessing. dmg isnt that good though
yoshi is freeky in this game. has all the tricky shit from prior games but they gave him an incredible canned dominant mixup with his manji butterfly stance, along with a good power crush, regen, range and guardbreak. AND he still has flash and df2. the only thing he doesnt have is a really really good low OH WAIT I FORGOT ABOUT HIS LAUNCHING UNBLOCKABLE LOW. so if you get hit with his safe launching df2, he can carry you to the wall and make you guess for your life again. christ
dragunov is in a good spot rn, not insanely busted like he was at launch but still really good. dominant pokes, great CH game, his new low is scary as fuck, his new mid is like +5 on block, his crouching stance gives him a scary entry into your guard, AND he still has d2 and his wr2. theyre much, much worse, but combined with all those tools and INCREDIBLE wall carry and dmg you got a good fucking character.
i think victors for new players, genuinely. he has definite flaws (hes linear if youre buffering a lot) but he has good dmg great range a GUN his wr2 is kind of like azucenas old wr32 but less pushback, a lars style db4 on top of a bunch of other fantastic lows that are less committal, and his ease of use keeps him simple and effective. good CH, good range, its hard to play the poking game against him, beating a victor requires harder reads. im pretty scared of him going forward i just dont think anyones gone above and beyond with what he can do yet
law is crazy crazy crazy, the 2nd best poke game in the game (behind shaheen), great dmg, easily accessible DSS makes the mixes more relevant in every game, you gotta really read a good law in order to beat him. slide mix is OD too. also law used to have a lot of trouble mounting a comeback in 7, but since he has his heat engager combos (he has a 10f ch combo in heat can u believe that) hes scary at all health levels
jackk is weird in this one, because they just added a bunch of shit to him on top of his 7 style poking game. so alongside his db1, f2, jackhammer, throw game, df2, etc now he has gamma howl so you HAVE to deal with his pressure and a fucking. 10f heat smash. AND a guardbreak. also his backdash is weirdly good
jins sooo good in this one. so many quality of life changes from tekken 7. more dmg, more mixes, his raw f4 doesnt require an insane conversion to combo from, the fact that 2 3 4 knocks down, the jab range... i could go on and on. really really good character, busted heat smash. fuck i forgot about everyones HEAT smash. but his specifically is insanely good, you can be halfway across the stage and his heat burst will land him like a 90 dmg combo, and if you block it its a free mix for jin. really good! also d2
eddy is still new to me, but i can tell hes pretty solid. imagine all the annoying stuff eddy had in 7 on top of an actually forceful 50/50. like if hes in heat with his weird install he can just force a 50/50 at like halfscreen where you gotta choose between getting combo'd with heat and getting hellswept. difference between his 50/50 and lili/xiaoyus is that if you block the low youre actually rewarded, so he cant be too braindead about it. great movement too.
king on second look should probably be above law, or at least next to him. the system changes in this game mean that his throws are genuinely fucking terrifying now that they catch sidestep and are really difficult to block on CH. AND you can punish with them. plus his new stance literally does not have a good outcome for you other than getting lucky and ducking the throw, but even then you cant launch him consistently off of it. ffn2 is now -13, so no one except for kazuya can launch it. AND he has huge dmg. AND his backdash is huge. AND he has a launching 13 frame mid... i could go on. he's crazy
juns real fuckin annoying. her lows are insane. real dominant frame game, fantastic range and dmg, the moves that remove her health dont really hurt her in the long run, and her heat burst is just a gauss rifle. thats on top of the annoying asuka style shit he has with the cartwheel, hopkick, parry, etc. im not gonna act like ive labbed her that hard, but shes good.
leo is in a bit of a weird position in this game, because he still functions so deeply on his stance pressure and good pokes that kind of falter in the face of heat smash and heat burst. but hes still tricky, still evasive, still has EVERYTHING he needs, its just a little worse than it was in 7. thats not to say he's not still good, but he doesnt have that one sniper rifle move the people above him have. great lows though, hellsweep AND ch launching -13 low. like nina a little! ohh and that wallsplat throw fuck that
devil jin is still really good in this one, i just think the nerfs to his pokes (which were pretty terrifying pre-sept 2022) have finally taken their toll. which is fine, conceptually it was fucked to have someone with incredible pokes on top of a launching hellsweep and electric (cough reina cough) but now shit like uf4 is kind of paltry compared to the other mids we have to work with on other chars. and his 50/50 is still good, but not as good compared to lili or xiaoyu. ALSO his fuckin uhhhh new stance is crazy, because theres not really a perfect choice to make on the defenders behalf, and he can put you in it a LOT. the heat smash nerf was needed but damn. still good dmg, still devil jin, just a little worse at what he was good at compared to a month ago
claudio is good. his pokes are still fantastic, and his b2 is even MORE dominant in a game where side steps are a much more involved part of everyones gameplan. his heat mix between the w2 and i think its wr1+2 isnt that great though, but he's the kind of character where you can beat someone on fundamentals alone really easily. good hopkick 2
B tier (this is where it gets fuzzy)
lars pisses me off. he gets constant free engagement where the onus is entirely on you as the player to make a good read. his den 3 into sen1 is literally a tracking plus on block mid into a tracking heat engaging mid. you have no choices! and his lows are solid as fuck, his df1 is great, he has a lot of evasion, etc. nothings incredible to the point of being busted or even that competitive, but hes annoying
my conception of asuka is " if you try and fight back on your natural cadence, you are fucked" and it pisses me off. weird evasion, weird pokes, weird pace... its like fighting against a jellyfish. at least her heat stuff isnt that great
azucena got nerfed into the dirt, which im fiiiine with. really annoying char before, now just kind of annoying. used to be that you would fight an azucena until they got really bored of pretending to try and they would spam wr32, but now they cant do that so they try and out poke you. which sometimes works, but once you realize whats up the flaws in her gameplan become too obvious. sorry azucena!
lee gives ME a lot of trouble, but that might just be a jin thing. he still has a pretty functional magic 4, hitmans a little better, great new heat engaging move (ff4 or something?) and his wall carry and dmg are REALLY REALLY BUSTED NOW. he should probably be above azucena now that i look at it. also a generic df2... fuck it i just put him in low A instead. also his just frame stuff being free in heat is crazy
ive tried so hard to lab zafina but im still never sure what the fucks going on. i know her key moves, but im not totally certain about how to deal with some of her stances like tarantula. her new heat moves got buffed recently so she really can keep the pressure going almost like lars, so she can put your ass on your toes. pretty good! her best moves dmg herself though, and her damage/ wall carry isnt great either. so shes a pretty balanced version of herself i think
Paulll. whats up paul. how you doin man. do you smoke? reclaim? like im scraping the resin off the resin pal. pauls so cool i love him. but in a game where aggression is paramount you really gotta be on top of your pokes with him, having a 14f df1 kinda hurts him but his df2 is still as good as its ever been. he has some slightly evasive shit now, but to me paul is still all about getting that one good read and snowballing off of that. thing is with chip and shit being the way it is its harder to survive being paul style patient, but youre still mega rewarded. hes alright
bryan is in a weird spot right now. because like 7 once you get the ball rolling with him you are HEAVILY rewarded with dmg, wall carry, unblockable wallsplats and shit, taunt pressure, etc but GETTING there is not easy. his 3+4 is still good, but in a game where backing up/neutral sidestep is a great choice for most of the cast he has to stick his neck out a lot, usually in a dangerous way. this is all for insane dmg, but its the kind of dmg that someone like nina or reina get for free so what the hell
hwoarang is in a weird spot. he's still a noob killer, but once you know whats actually going on in this game he has a much harder time staying in your face. in 7 he could just mix you over and over again, but with everyone having a good powercrush in heat smash that takes priority over his stances, its hard to keep it up. on top of the fact that his heat stuff requires him to be in flamingo stance (and i think his d4, 4 jails now so its harder to bait a ch) hes just a little too slow at what he does best.
boyyy howdy. kazuya needs some tuning (his jabs dont connect sometimes?) but he's not disastrous. his hellsweep mix is still really, really good, the improvement of sidesteps makes ss-> electric a better option than its ever been, and he's actually pretty scary in heat. but the big issue is that he's still punished HEAVILY for fucking up his 50/50 and the top tiers just arent, simple as. theres no reason to play kazuya over say reina.
leroy feels like a t7 character, his whole thing being a dominant parry game kind of melts away when you realize that half the casts key tools carve thru parries. so they tried to make up for that in a recent patch by improving the chip dmg on a lot of his tools, but still in a game where defense is always king its not really the easiest thing in the world to keep up, youre always sticking your neck out. the cane is pretty good though, and hes pretty slippery. he's not dog ass (in fact, i would say everyone is super viable) but he's not scary.
raven is really good, but the only reason he's lower is that a lot of his tools are glitchy rn. his df1 string literally whiffs on HIT, and his backturn stance even when blocked can render him launch punishable in totally random situations. on paper id say mid-A, but the fact that its mathematically impossible to play in a way that cuts down on risky situations puts him in a tough spot.
man steve fucking sucks. his stance sucks, his b1 sucks, im sure hyper steve specialists are doing absolutely fine but there are too many system level changes that dont allow him to just completely dominate the frame game like he used to be able to. and a lot of his old tools that led to a big combo now lead to an EXTREMELY risky mix in the form of lionheart, which is just the worst. he sacrificed dmg for mixes, which most people have in this game, but he was too dependent on the 5-7 style of play to sacrifice any of that
bears are really annoying in this one with the new mechanics, but they still have to resort to heavily punishable risky shit to really seal the deal if you find a way to deal with the hunting stance mix. great heat smash though, im not gonna act like they havent taken a lot of games off of me

My tier lists for Tekken 7, based on how much I can play a character, followed by how much I like each of the characters, from a design/aesthetic standpoint.
They're pretty similar -- maybe not surprising, but I play characters more when I like them as characters. There are some maybe interesting mismatches, though -- I tried to pick up Master Raven, but she didn't really click with me. Might do another push on trying to learn her. Lidia, I learned to play for a few minutes but forgot (but I really like her design)... and Akuma is one of my favorite characters in fighting games but I haven't learned to play as him in T7 hardly at all.
How about you? Are you character-first, or do you pick characters based on moveset functions?
(I'm character-first so hard that it might actually prevent me from playing some games -- I'm constitutionally incapable of not playing the hot femme fatale witch but also Nine seems ridiculously complicated, so I basically can't play BlazBlue without sinking a lot of time into it. On the other hand, I can play Guilty Gear at a beginner level because I can understand what I-No does.)

The most OP character in Street Fighter history is set to terrorize Street Fighter 6 - hands-on
Tumblr media
Akuma is ALWAYS a problem. Whether it is because of his traditional moveset that contains everything a Street Fighter character needs to trouble the top of a tier list or his often ludicrous damage output, Akuma is a character who is going to cause problems whenever he appears in a game. Throughout the years, since his first appearance as a secret character in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Akuma is almost always one of the best characters in any game he is a playable character in. Hell, he even ended up in Tekken 7 and was one of the best characters in that series, too. Akuma is inevitable. And now, he’s on the cusp of appearing in Street Fighter 6 as the final DLC character in season one. May God have mercy on our souls. During a brief hands-on session with an 'Akuma build' of SF6 ahead of his release into the game proper, everything I expected was confirmed. Akuma is a well-equipped menace of a character, designed around inflicting hugely damaging combos whenever he lands a hit, with all of his usual tools at his disposal. He's a beast. So, you’ve got things like his ‘Shoto’ moves - fireball, hurricane kick and uppercut - his tricky ‘Demon Flip’, where he flies across the screen at you and can potentially hit you with several possible attacks that forces the opponent to make a quick guess and react accordingly. He has his aerial fireball - the special move that made him so broken in his debut appearance - and a divekick, ensuring that he can pause or change his jump trajectory and deliver an attack, making an approach from the air extremely perilous and can bait out any anti-air attempts by your opponent. Watch on YouTube He can charge his fireball so it not only hits multiple times but will tank a hit through a rival’s projectile too, making him a dominant force in any fireball wars you may find yourself in too. And, of course, if that all doesn’t sound like enough, he has a teleport so he can get himself out of dodge when the going gets tough. Simply put, he once again has ways that allow a player to control the fight no matter what the situation and constantly provide them with different ways to approach things offensively. So, it sounds like he doesn’t need anything else, correct? Well, Capcom have deemed it fit to hand him a few extra toys for his arsenal this time around. First up is a novel move called Admant Flamewhich is perhaps the least interesting but likely the most useful. A enormous strike that can be done on its own or can have an additional hit put on the end of it, to be used mainly in combos or as a means of punishing an opponent who is throwing out strikes recklessly. The ‘OD’ version of this move causes the opponent to be put into a stunned state against the corner of the stage, no matter where it is performed, allowing for a combo to continue and - crucially - gives the player immediate corner control, which is an extremely robust position in Street Fighter 6. His teleport now has a novel move attached to it - the Orobo Throw - allowing you to teleport Akuma up to your opponent and throw them. That’s correct, they’ve basically given him a command grab! It is, mercifully, pretty highly telegraphed by the initial teleport animation and, after a very brief bit of testing, it appears that the opponent can react to it with a throw of their own and win the exchange. Even so, that is yet another string to Akuma’s pretty bloody well strung offensive bow. My favourite novel addition is the terrifying sounding Demon Raida novel addition to his Demon Flip move, performed by holding down during the initial flip that causes Akuma to do… absolutely nothing. Instead of tossing a fireball, doing a divekick or slamming down with an overhead strike, Akuma simply lands beside his opponent.
Tumblr media
Now, the thing here is that the usual follow-ups to the Demon Flip are going to have a player trying to block an attack, so Akuma now has a way he can catch an opponent out and hit them with a throw, for instance. It adds a whole novel dimension to the traditional mindgames around this move - there’s going to be so many clips of people doing packed screen Demon Flips, landing and hitting the other player with his legendary super move, the Shun Goku Satsu - or more commonly - the RAGING DEMON. I’m going to be raging at man the first time I get caught out by that. All these novel moves slot wonderfully into Akuma’s usual highly aggressive playstyle, with all of his standard attacks feeling really rigid and impactful and, within the session I was doing some pretty un-optimal combos that were knocking 50% plus of my opponent’s health off just because they didn’t block a jumping attack. It was a lot of fun. However, as is the case, Akuma is what is known as a ‘glass canon’ character and although his potential for deleting health bars is very high, he has the lowest health in the game. A quick test showed that a Punish Counter throw takes off around 30% of his total health. Hit, but don’t GET hit is still very much the character gameplan here. Although it is impossible to truly tell until some much better players get their hands on him, Akuma seems to have everything you need to be a competitive character in the current Street Fighter 6 meta - which will itself shift upon Akuma's release with a range of character balance updates. He's a fitting shake-up for the finale of the first season - roll on season 2! Source link Read the full article

As I was making my "Would I slander my faves?" tier list, Id made me realize just how mixed my feelings are on Jin and Kazuya!
I just to adore Jin as a kid so much, and was so disappointed in how he was handled in Tekken 6 and such. And I will admit, I've been sleeping on Kazuya, but Tekken 7 made me gain so much respect for him that he moved up quickly!

Behind GorgeousMan’s Legacy
When GorgeousMan’s name known across the international Tekken community? Well, it was started from Antoine’s first big tournament in EVO and creating history among North American Tekken community.
Most of all, Dean’s company was the true MVP behind his success.
(2 years before Antoine and Dean got hired by Black Mesa...)
.
.
.
(Antoine: 22 y/o. Dean: 21 y/o)
“WAIT, WHAT?! YOU MANAGED TO ENTER INTO EVO TOURNAMENT?!”
Antoine lightly laughed as he saw Dean’s shocked reaction, his body got shaken by the shorter man as he babbled in excitement. “Nie, you aren’t representing any org and you just put yourself there? Aw fuck, I can’t- ”
“Woah, dearie, I gotta stop you right there for a second.” The bigger man pulled himself from the shorter man’s grasp. “I purposely not telling you about it because I guessed that you’ll get stressed out and both of us know how you handling yourself when you got something stuck in your mind.”
Dean scoffed hearing his roommates’ comment but didn’t give any kind of rejection because he knew he was right about it. He saw the shorter man’s worrywart side, always reminded him to eat or take a good rest without knowing that he neglected himself. Even when they were still at MIT, he was his reminder to all his assignments and schedules.
Gosh, he’s the nicest man he’d ever met.
“There are thousands of contestant to beat, Nie. Like, all of them aren’t coming without any kind of skills.” Dean muttered out loud, he let himself fell down to his beanbag chair as he pulled out his phone and started to type something before showing the screen to him. A picture of a mocha-coloured short-haired man showing off his wide grin as he held a glass trophy. “Rick from Aperture Games is also competing there as one of the top 8 players on last year’s EVO.” He scrolled the screen lower, showing a short jet black-haired woman wearing a white cap with some sort of grey symbol softly smiling at the crowd. “And the infamous back-to-back champion of EVO, adv1s0r from Combine Tech!”
Of course, he knew both of them. Johnny “Rick” Grady was one of the more known players among those who know the American Tekken. He came to represent the Aperture Games as he mowed down his opponents with Eddy, a middle-tier and speedy Tekken character that packs quite a punch if people managed to master his quick movements. Meanwhile, the mysterious “adv1s0r” from Combine Tech is a Korean player whose known for being the daughter of the Combine’s CEO and a genius for playing Dragunov, one of the supposedly top-tier characters and a heavy-hitter.
In EVO, however, North American players were underestimated too much.
Maybe he could make it into his advantage?
“Don’t worry, sweetheart,” He took one of Dean’s palm and squeezed it gently, “I got a plan for that.”
“...You still doing the nicknames, huh...” Antoine’s heart fluttered, he sat beside him and put his head under the crook of Dean’s neck. The shorter man flinched at first, but then gave in and nuzzled against the taller man’s hair.
“Ah, you don’t like it, honey? The shorter man lowly hummed as if he was thinking about it, although Antoine knew his answer already.
“...I don’t mind it.”
“If you say so, Boo~” And both of them stayed in that position for a while, Dean scrolling through his phone while Antoine watched him out. It took him a while before realizing he was looking for EVO tournament information. Dean looked up at him with his infamous deadpan stare. “Uhhhh, what is it, babe?”
“Three days until the tournament and the main location is in Las Vegas, huh?” He kept staring at him, Dean’s green eyes met his darker ones. “Are you going alone or with somebody? Do you need to book an Airbnb? How about the plane tickets-”
Dean’s train of questions got silenced by a single peck on his cheek. His only response to that was another dead stare. “Calm down there, sweetie,” He gave the shorter man some pats on his head, burying his hand under those dark brown strands, “I’ve planned most of them already. Plane tickets are ready to go, along with the Airbnb booking and some replacement parts for my Arcade Pad.” He took the phone out from his hand and placed it beside him. “I just need a travel partner to go with, so you know where this conversation is going.”
“...You smooth fucker, I’m in.”
“I’m glad you catch my drift there.”
--------------------------------------------------------------
“Nie, look, they also held Marvel vs Capcom 2 here, too! Wait, is that GO1*?! I can see him playing on Dragonball Fighter Z area from here!!”
Dean ran wild among the crowds and scanned his surroundings excitedly, while Antoine watched over him. He could see how his roommate’s green eyes sparkled upon arriving at the entrance, running around to every cosplayer and pointing at some of the players they both knew. Seeing his childlike side made his heart warm.
“Oh, and anyway,” Dean turned around to face him and pointed at him, no, his clothing, “most people are wearing t-shirts and other casual tops, and you really want to wear that?
Antoine looked down, checking out his black button-up blazer with a black hooded jacket under it, his white shirt and a navy-blue tie peeked out from the unzipped area. His black skinny jeans and white plimsoll sneakers accompanied his top perfectly. Meanwhile, Dean was wearing his favourite oversize navy blue hoodie with a pair of black 3/4 jeans and black-white running sneakers. His black beanie framed his clean-shaven face.
In his defence, he wanted to look a bit formal as a good first impression to his opponents.
Antoine looked back at the shorter man and shrugged, earning a small groan. “Damn, it’s hard to let go that old habit of yours, huh?” He flashed his smirk at his roommates, once again earning another small groan. “Guess I can’t really blame you. It suits you.”
“Of course it is, pumpkin~” He began to lightly flex his well-developed muscles, the result of going to the gym every day. “I am GorgeousMan, a North American Tekken player, ready to defeat my enemies in style~”
“Yea, I know you will...” Dean snatched on of his hands and pulled him as they walked together to the Tekken 7′s qualification booth. “There are more than a thousand and five hundred players, separated between seventy pools and you’re in the pool F602.” He stopped walking and pulled him to his front, then pushed him until they were facing the re-registration staff. “Remember to have fun when playing, Nie.” He gave him a single pat on the back and a small smile, then left him there as he walked towards the audience seat.
Well, time to have fun, shall we?
-------------------------------------------------------------
He couldn’t believe his eyes.
He beat all of them in just two rounds.
He didn’t even struggle nor break a sweat as he demolished his opponents with King’s WWE-inspired moves, eyes locked onto the screen while both his hands expertly tapping buttons and moving the joystick, creating a dance for his character to follow and making combos after combos.
He emerged victorious inside his pool, putting himself inside the winner bracket along with other pool victors.
He survived.
And most of all, he’s acting like himself while at it, finger gunned the camera while winking at the audience sometimes. Most of them were surprised more of a fact that he wasn’t sponsored nor belong to any org, while he was dressed like someone that didn’t belong on the stage. Especially on his last match with one of the player. he could feel the searching gaze as he scanned his entire attire.
“I’ve never seen you on the major tournament before.” Was his most asked question during meeting other players. He could recognize only a handful of them, and only one of his match got properly viewed by the casters and pro players noticed his presence in the match from his iconic appearance.
“Beware of The Player in Hooded Blazer, he’s strong.”
The Player in Hooded Blazer, huh...
“Hey, Nie, you’ve been staring at the ceiling for a while.”
His thought broke and he took a glance at Dean, playing Half-Life 2 on his laptop beside him. Knowing his roommates, Antoine guessed that he’s trying to break his own speedrun record again by dissecting the game even further or looking for corners he could cut. His focus hadn’t left his game yet, but he could feel the shorter man’s intense glare somehow.
“No, it’s just- today has been very overwhelming for me...” That statement was true. This is the first time people acknowledged him for his skills rather than his background. His look became his trademark among both rising starts and older pro players. Even one of his opponents complimented him, saying that he “really is a gorgeous man” and that thought alone brightened his day a lot.
His roommate hummed a bit before pausing his game and closing his laptop, eyes now fully focused at him. “Don’t push yourself too hard.” He patted his shoulder and squeezed it gently, almost affectionate. “You’re still in progress to adapt to this kind of environment. You got yourself a name and a reputation among those who have played against you and some who watched you play.” Dean’s lips formed a small smile. “You are no longer just another small problem to forget, you are now in their wanted list.” He gave him some more pats on his shoulder before packing his laptop back and laying down on the bed. “Your next few days will be harder than today, so take some good rest for tonight.”
Antoine knew personally that Dean was bad at comforting people, but this is the first time he’d seen his genuine attempt to comfort him.
...He’s too nice for his own sake...
The taller man smiled softly, looking down at the smaller figure beside him before finally laying down next to him.
...Maybe choosing the room with double bed for cheaper price wasn’t a bad idea, after all.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's the second day on the tournament and he hadn’t been lost even once yet. Some of those players that he’d beaten was known from their performances at many international tournaments, only for them to look in awe as Antoine’s King perform his infamous back break and body slam. Nobody was safe from his grasp, not even the legendary JeonDDing* and NOROMA*. Many agencies and gaming orgs were taking an interest at him and some of them even offered a place for him in there, but he turned all of them down.
Overall, he felt incredible.
He only needed one more win to get into finals.
“Nie, there you are!” He turned around to the source of the voice, watching as Dean jogging to him while holding two bottles of Pocari. “You’ve been playing for a while there,” He handed one of them to him, which he accepted, “so you might need to chill for a bit before meeting your last opponent.”
The bottle was cool to touch, he assumed his roommate got it from the vending machine. He opened the sealed cap and took a few good gulps. The cool, slightly salty liquid washed out some of his fatigue a bit and refreshed his mind a little. He let out a satisfied huff, throwing out the now-empty bottle into a trashcan beside him. “Thanks, babe.”
“Yeah, yeah, your wel-”
“Wait, is that the orgless player who put some top players under loser’s bracket?”
“Hooded blazer man...yes, it’s the dark horse of this event!”
“Did you see him kicking pekos* with those sick King combos?”
Their conversation was cut off short as some audiences walked towards them. Their gaze of him was awfully familiar, sending some chills under his spine. He tried his nervousness under his usual prideful smile facade. “Hey, what are you guys up to?”
“Bro, we saw your matches and we’re very impressed!” A̶r̶e̶n̴’̴t̴ ̶y̸o̶u̶ ̸t̷h̴e̶ ̶n̵e̷w̸ ̴s̶t̵u̵d̸e̶n̴t̵ ̴f̸r̵o̴m̷ ̸t̷h̶a̸t̵ ̶v̶e̸r̵y̴ ̷r̵i̶c̷h̷ ̸f̶a̸m̶i̶l̵y̷?̵ ̷T̸h̸a̶t̵’̸s̶ ̷s̴o̸ ̷c̴o̶o̸l̶!̷

Nononononononoidontwanttogoback-
“Thanks for the support, guys!” Dean’s forced high pitched-up voice snapped those bad thoughts away in a single sentence, he could feel a pair of his roommate’s hands grasped onto his shoulder tightly and dragged him away from the forming crowd around them. Either it’s his imagination or he could feel slight tremble from both grips. After a while of turning and twisting their path, they’d found themselves back near the big stage and stopped. The trembling grip finally released and he heard a long shaky sigh.
“Dean, you goo-”
“No, that’s MY question to YOU!” Dean stomped his way to face him, pointing at his chest while maintaining eye contact. “You looked like you’re about to die there, and now I’m worried like hell!”
“You don’t need to worry about me, De-”
“I have the right to be FUCKING WORRIED, ANTOINE!!!” Dean rarely raised his voice, but it’s different this time.
Dean...frustrated?
“Please, Dean, calm dow-” Dean’s loud groan cut him before he could finish his words.
“See?! You just- you’re doing it again!!!” His breathing rhythm got shorter over time. “When you got stressed out or emotional, you don’t call me by those nicknames! I’m not that stupid, Nie!” He tried to hold his breath to slow down, but failed and now it's gotten shakier. “The last time you didn’t call me by names, you got caught back inside your dumb family drama and I need to wrangle you out from there.”
Ah, he didn’t notice the detail.
“I-I can explain-”
“GorgeousMan, please enter the stage right now. Your next opponent is waiting.”
He heard the announcement from the staff, but both of them didn’t break ther eye contact before Dean gently smacked his shoulder once and walked away.
Don’t get stressed out, that’s what his roommate’s indirect message.
Well, hope he could apply that advice on-stage.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
“Pardner, you’re one hell of a player back there.”
“...I screwed my combos for three times straight and almost lost to you. That’s not an achievement.”
“Tell that to when you went full ham and reverse sweeping on the match point.”
“Said the ones who interrupted most of my attempts at counter hitting on the first round.”
Rick, or Johnny, laughed upon hearing Antoine’s vent rambling, both sitting on a long bench outside the venue. Although he won against this southern player, the win wasn’t as good as those previous ones he’d earned in these two days. It somehow leaves a bitter taste to his mouth due to all those bad thoughts affecting his performance. He tried to loosen up, but Johnny’s Eddie only adding up more problems. It somehow helped him block out the thoughts and managed to beat him out of annoyance.
Meanwhile, Dean was quiet beside him, his eyes staring at the ground as if he wanted to avoid any eye contacts. He caught him glancing and the man immediately went back to staring down. Sometimes he saw him squeezing the pads of his fingers until they’re bluish or gnawing at his own thumb, littering it with bite marks.
From the looks of it, he’s badly anxious.
He needs to do something before Dean broke down.
“It’s been fun chatting with you, but we have to go.” Antoine got up from the bench and gently grabbed Dean’s hand. “Good luck on loser’s bracket, I heard you’re fighting qudans*?” The southern player nodded before pulling out his phone.
“Wait, can I have both of your contacts? We should meet up sometimes.” He raised one of his eyebrows.
“Both?” Johnny nodded again, his eyes shifted to the fidgety Dean.
“Aren’t you that Half-Life speedrunner DFree? One of my friends in the org is actually your biggest fan!” Dean stopped his fidgeting and now staring back at the player. “You might know him, he specializes in Portal speedrun-”
“You mean Ke- I mean spacey?” If there’s any trace of his anxiousness on his face before, it vanished into thin air, leaving only a pair of curious eyes. “The hyperactive space nerd who knows the entire space trivia?”
Johnny lightly chuckled. “Oh, you really do know him! Kevin would be delighted to hear that.”
“How’s Kevin? Is he still reading some space-related contents?”
“Hell, Ms Caroline bought him a dozen of NASA books and space encyclopedias and he’s now using that big brain of his to annoy Gladys.”
Dean cackled out loud, while Antoine watched him in awe. This is the first time he’d seen his roommate didn’t shy away from a conversation with other people other than him. “He’s legit older than me, and yet still as childish as ever.”
“True, right?” Johnny checked his phone screen and his eyes widened. “Aw shucks, ten minutes until the loser’s bracket begin and I need to go now.” And with that, he ran back into the venue, leaving both Freemans outside.
Now, time to tell him that-
“I’m sorry Nie, I’ve been pretty harsh to you.”
...Eh?
“I know I got out-of-hand at that time, I-I don’t want to see you like the first time we met a-and I got a bit panicky there and I shouldn’t raise my voice to someone older, but I di-”
He wrapped Dean with the warmest hug he could’ve possibly made. Slowly, his hand stroking the dark brown strands below the beanie the man was wearing while rubbing circles on his back in a comforting manner. “That’s okay, dear. You have every right to do that.” He smiled, a small sigh of relief escaped from his lips. “I’m also sorry for making you worry back then, too.”
Both of them were now hugging in the middle of Las Vegas’ cold autumn and nobody disturb them.
“...We forgot to give Rick our contact, huh?”
“Don’t worry, he should know my Twitter username and send a DM there.”
They chuckled, the tense atmosphere between them has vanished.
This is nice...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
EVO’s Sunday Stage is always the biggest part of EVO, with variations of arcade fighting gamers and fans gather around under one building for one thing; watching the peak of the tournaments.
In Antoine’s case; Tekken 7 finals.
To be honest, he’s not fully ready yet. As in “How the hell he managed to go to Top 4 while orgless and a newcomer?” kind of not ready. In addition, Rick got eliminated by qudans*, making him the only North American player in this big Sunday Stage.
The stage is way bigger than the last two days. Big screens, big stadium, a big number of audience, everything just overwhelmingly big.
He’s not just nervous; he’s incredibly anxious.
“Today’s first semifinal match is going to be an interesting one, between a newcomer who has turned himself into the dark horse of this tournament, the rumoured Man in Hooded Blazer GorgeousMan, versus The Defending Champion of EVO adv1s0r. Who will move on to the final stage?”
The crowd explodes with cheers as he and his opponent entered the stage, his hands gripping down the arcade pad tightly. Now as he looked at adv1s0r’s face, she looks like one of those cold villains. Her lips pulled into a small frown and her black eyes lacked any kind of liveliness.
He feels threatened by her presence alone.
But he couldn’t back down.
Not now, not ever.
Whatever is the result, he’ll face it on.
He grinned widely, putting up his prideful facade once again.
.
(Goddamnit, he’s nervous, isn’t he? He couldn’t help him from the audience seat, but what if he...yeah that could work.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
“And what a devastating defeat at the start of the round, with adv1s0r leading the match!”
Ah, he’s fucked.
He made mistakes around the combos and that little shithead’s Dragunov just fucking up with him from time to time. His hands were trembling as he fumbling with the stick and buttons. With the added pressure of stress, he’s not in his top form.
Overall, he feels like shit.
It’s been a long time since he cursed this much, but yeah fuck this.
He took a big gulp of bottled water and tried to re-calibrating his fingers again, reciting every combo from his head, but his nervousness still sticking there.
Also, this fucking headphone is uncomfortable as hell, he better let this go or else-
As soon as he pulled out his headphone, his ear was greeted by the loudest cheers he’d ever heard from the audience. Although he’d heard many kinds of cheers from many EVO tournament he’d watched, this cheer, however, was different.
The crowd were cheering for North America.
They were cheering for him.
He is their last hope to show what North American players could do.
And somehow, it replaced all the pressure in his mind with a newfound determination.
Grinning with pride, he relaxed his grip on his arcade pad.
Time for GorgeousMan to defeat his enemies with style~
.
(From the audience seat, Dean smiled. Looks like his plan worked perfectly.)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Up forward, 4, 4, dash, 1, 2, dash, 1, dash, 1, 2, forward two times, 1, forward three times and press 2 and 4 at the same time.
That’ll be the final hit and-
“- and then OH MY GOD, HE DID IT!!!”
He jolted out from his seat and started to shout out of his mind, joined by thousands of the crowd’s erupted cheers.
His clothes were soaked with cold sweat and tears were falling down his cheek, but he didn’t care at all.
He’d reached the level he’d thought he never reach with his own skills.
Screw being a politician like his family once wanted, being himself is already addicting enou-
“NICE JOB, NIE!!!”
His body got tackled by a familiar hug of Dean’s, which he then returned the hug tightly. A warm feeling crept into his heart as he saw his roommate also tightened the hug. “I couldn’t do it without you, darling. Thank you for your companion.”
Dean flashed the brightest and most beautiful smile he’d ever seen. “Nah, Nie. You did it yourself.” He pulled himself out from the taller man’s side and pointed out at the crowd. “They’re for you. You proved that American players aren’t weak at all, and the cheers are their way of saying thank you. The only thing I did was just to convinced them to cheer for you.”
“Their cheers are your reward now. Go and respond to them.”
And then, he broke down in tears, sobbing out loud in both relief and happiness.
He was lucky to have a friend like him.
.
(Dean glanced at adv1s0r’s frustration face, he swore he saw a man in a suit on the corner of his eyes, but then he’s gone when he tried to take a good look at him, along with adv1s0r herself.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
XXth October 20XX, the day when its Match of The Year became one of the most memorable among Tekken players, a name was known to the entirety of every North American player and worldwide as one of the sole North American Tekken players who managed to reach the finals through the winner’s bracket.
After placing himself on the 3rd place of EVO Tournament, he kept moving forward to annual EVO Japan and later Tekken World Tour after getting accepted by Black Mesa org.
Since then, he was feared as The Player in Black Hooded Suit, GorgeousMan.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Footnotes:
- Players with (*) mark exist IRL. GO1, however, isn’t a Tekken player.
-(Up forward, 4, 4, dash, 1, 2, dash, 1, dash, 1, 2, forward two times, 1, forward three times and press 2 and 4 at the same time.) : One of King’s combo, resulting in 69 damages in 9 hits.

the insane level of tekken talent that 7 has developed cannot be underestimated. longest lifespan of any tekken game, almost 9 years since its arcade release. stopped getting content like 3 years ago. people have this game down to a fucking science at this point, they have different tier list for the PLATFORMS its played on. theyve just been sitting in concentrated tekken muck for so long, esp with the insane amount of tools they have to work with at this point. if you are starting with 8 you are fucked.

LooneyLili (she just recently hit TEKKEN GOD PRIME) gives you advice about how to pick a main in Tekken 7.
- “Disregard tier lists. ... Tekken is a very balanced game. The character’s as good as the player is. On paper, yes, some characters are better than others. ... It is impossible to master a character.”
- The character can only carry you so far. In the long run, you’re going to have to learn to be a better Tekken player.
- Pick a character you enjoy. The most important thing for getting better is having fun and sticking with it.

Tekken 3 roster

#TEKKEN 3 ROSTER SERIES#
However, as he is airborne, Akuma leaves himself open to being floated for a combo. It has various options with strengths and weaknesses that cover each other, so a player can act on their opponent’s reaction to the demon flip accordingly. Hyakkishu (f, d, d/f+3_f, d, d/f+4) – Akuma’s demon flip is a useful mix-up tool to use when pressuring the opponent, as well as a combo tool. However, Akuma’s DPs are all launch punishable on block, so don’t throw them out willy-nilly. The EX version (f, d, d/f+1+2) spends one bar of meter and does more damage and Akuma performs his popular super move, Messatsu Goshoryu, if the EX DP connects on counter hit. Goshoryuken (f, d, d/f+1_f, d, d/f+2) – Akuma’s dragon punch (DP) is fully invincible in Tekken 7 and therefore a useful “panic move” to throw out if you’re anticipating sustained pressure from the opponent. The Shakunetsu Hadoken (hcb+1_hcb+2) does more damage and knocks down the opponent but is slower to come out. Gohadoken (qcf+1_qcf+2) – Though Akuma’s fireball loses some of its strength in Tekken 7 because players can sidestep it unlike in the Street Fighter series, it is still useful in zoning the opponent and chipping away at their health from a distance.Qcf = Quarter-circle forward (d, d/f, f) hcb = Half-circle back (f, d/f, d, d/b, b) Be sure to also check out our Tekken 7 tier list to get more detailed insights on each character’s strengths and weaknesses. The game currently has 43 different characters on its roster, each with tens of moves (some more than others), but each has a few moves that are vital to their general game plan.
#TEKKEN 3 ROSTER SERIES#
With global sales approaching 4 million units at the end of 2018, Tekken 7 is the best-selling instalment on the series since Tekken 5 and is set to continue its hot streak with the impending releases of Tekken 3 debutante Julia Chang and Negan from The Walking Dead as additional characters for Season Pass 2.
