"Schultze?"

They were trying to sneak behind the police' backs. Why there was a policeman in every Viennese corner, was left unanswered.

Something, no- someone suddenly grabbed their wrist. "Ow!" They yelped in surprise and looked up at that someone. It was Sergeant Haussmann.

"Ah, ah." He shook his head in disapproval. "Where are you off to, hm, kleine Maus*?"

They just clench their jaw and tried to break free of his grasp.

"Who are you, anyway?"

At that moment, Dr. Liebermann was passing by the two. They saw their chance, literally, and took it. "I, I, I work as an assistant for **Herr! Herr..., Herr..." They shifted their eyes to show who they were referring to.

Sergeant Haussmann picked up on that signal and turned his head to be met with Dr. Liebermann. "Herr Liebermann?"

They nod. "Herr Liebermann, yes!"

"Let's ask him if it's true, then. Liebermann!" Haussmann called out.

Dr. Liebermann turned his head to where his name was called. "Haussmann! Is there a problem?" He asked, shifting his gaze to the lady, noticing Haussmann was rather painfully holding on to her wrist.

"There might be!" Haussmann pointed at the girl next to him. "This ***Fraulein claims to be your assistant, is that true?"

They met gazes with Dr. Liebermann, their gaze was a mix of fear, pain, and pleading. As if they were saying 'please lie for me' with their eyes.

Dr. Liebermann's expression was surprised at first but then softened. "Ah, yes. Miss..." He cut himself off to let her fill in her name.

"Schultze." They said, audibly enough for the doctor.

"I hired miss Schultze a few days ago, and we are still getting to know each other."

Their eyes relaxed as well as all of their body. Grateful.

"All right, if Herr Liebermann confirms to know you..." Haussmann let go of their wrist. "You are free to go, Fraulein Schultze."

They did not waste a second, leaving as fast as possible. But mayhaps, miss Schultze and Dr. Liebermann will meet again.
