zeti backstory headcanon stuff because god knows sonic team isn’t gonna give us anything anytime soon and i’m weirdly obsessed with these guys

alright. so. the zeti were an entire race of creatures around the same time as other ancient civilizations existed. at some point the zeti were conquered by another civilization and forced to act as slave labor. not content to live life as a slave, a young master zik rises up and rallys the zeti into committing a slave revolt. the zeti's captors are driven out and master zik, determined to never let the zeti become enslaved again, takes over and starts to run the zeti civilization as a military colony, forcing the zeti to become soldiers and wage war against the other ancient civilizations. five like-minded zeti would rise above the ranks, soon working directly under zik and together forming the deadly six. one in particular, zavok, would eventually be picked to become the new leader of the zeti.

meanwhile, the rest of the zeti grew tired of the deadly six's quest of destruction, beginning another revolt against their blood rulers. using their EMP powers, plus a boost in power from the recently acquired chaos emeralds, the zeti would create the lost hex and banish the deadly six from earth, never to be seen again. this ultimately saved the deadly six from destruction as the remains of previously conquered civilizations come back to exact their revenge against the zeti. deemed too risky to enslave again and too dangerous to be kept alive, the zeti were wiped out and their cities destroyed, nothing remaining save for a few sparse ruins and texts, as well as the cacophonic conchs used to keep the zeti in check during their time as slaves.
