random old guy from the fire department texted me this afternoon to say that he's been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic and liver cancer, wished me fair winds, and signed off
apparently we met right after the crash, but i clearly have no memory of that. almost a decade later, he recognized me in an ACLS recert class he was teaching. a kind comment made me think he was fully aware of the entire shitstorm i was caught in and i became a mess all over him. twice.

#this was all done in a sad not creepy way#though to be fair my creepy radar for older men isn't great#but he told me once he wished his daughter would grow up like me so that seems distinctly not creepy#fire department#so i've been crying my eyes out about this and he's not even dead yet#which is also random because i don't know him super well#the tears are a sign that I am not actually doing okay right now#shocker
