i just. My Id really wants a fic where Jewish/Jewish heritage Mulder pushes back on some of Scully's cultural Xtianity (which is different than her actual faith, please keep in mind) - her and the show's Xtian universalization, because there are definitely episodes about her faith where she and the show are gifted the framing of 'faith and religion are a strict binary, you either believe in the Xtian God or you don't believe in anything at all.' Which isn't flattering for the show or the character, and isn't really how Scully is written outside of those episodes. Yet it's still a noticeable recurring theme.

And then there's Kaddish, where her behavior is very bad and disrespectful/religiously bigoted and it's left with absolutely 0 pushback. Which again, is i think accidental in the writing, which had already made the old same golem-murder-zombie blunder (for plot reasons), which takes up enough attention that the nagging things about her behavior with the orthodox community don't seem that important in comparison, but they do bug me.

idk in a fantasy world where the writers were not crafting scripts about theology without apparently knowing much beyond interesting but not necessarily correct mysticized factoids, I would at least have Mulder stop her in one of those discussions and point out, "If I did believe in The Guy, I wouldn't be believing in the same Guy that you grew up with in your catechism. They share certain things, yes, but from a different direction. They're different Guys. You know that they're different Guys, right?"

Because I do not think anyone writing the show was aware of that part. And i mean, a lot of people, then and presentlu are not aware of that part. But it's. A fairly important part, even for atheist and non-observant Jews. It's a different Guy we're not believing in or mainly metaphorically believing in.
