Background

Elidibus Saafir was born in Arcadia during an Age of Peace, though by the time he was of an age to remember any of it, his city had declared war on Amaurot. The reasons were legion from them being fake gods that needed to be dealt with, to they posed a threat to Arcadia. Regardless of reasons, when he came of age Saafir joined the military and eventually rose through the ranks to General, one respected and loved by the people under his command. During this time he married a woman named Khadra and had a daughter, Naevia.

In one of many skirmishes against the enemy, he faced the Polemarch of the Amaurotian forces herself, Athena of the Wardens. In that battle he dealt a devastating blow to her shoulder, some would say nearly removing her arm entirely. He could have dealt her a fatal blow just then, but looking into her eyes, he knew she was destined for another fate and let her live instead. She rewarded his mercy in another face off later when she took his left eye.

When he found out Arcadia was making a weapon that would cripple the population of Amaurot by taking their Creation Magicks, he tried to send Khadra and Naevia away before he took the long walk to Amaurot and surrendered, revealing to them what his citystate planned. Athena chose to act without orders and marched on Arcadia, destroying it and killing all who resided within. Saafir himself was tried as a war criminal, but was given a pardon because he had delivered the warning that had saved Amaurot and doomed his home. A binding was put upon his soul by the Emet-Selch of the time which kept him from being able to leave Amaurot, making his new home his prison.

Though he had no power at this time, he went to the Convocation of Twelve and suggested that they add a couple of Seats. A Wanderer to help improve Amaurot’s reputation so another war never took place and an Emissary to smooth relations between citystates when they communicated with Amaurot as well as help to intergrate Arcadian citizens who had been outside the city when it had been razed and were coming now to Amaurot as their last resort. He didn’t expect the Seat of the Emissary to be offered to him, but took it when it was.

He had a single night of sexual comfort from Venat, who was the third to hold the Seat of Azem at the time. While he has no proof of this, he believes himself to be the father of Themis, who eventually came to succeed him as the Emissary. When he stepped down, he went by his last name Saafir so as not to confuse him with the Elidibus of the Convocation.

Personality

Saafir is rather serious and soft-spoken, but has a bit of a dry sense of humor that can be drawn out of him given the right motivation. Being of a rather solitary nature, he doesn’t understand some of the ways of Amaurot even after living there for centuries because he had literally never encountered it before; such as protocol for entering a dwelling as a casual guest or when it’s appropriate to remove his mask in front of others. For most of his time there, he had no one to ask either.

He has a gentle spirit and genuinely wishes to improve Amaurot. He adores children and in their company will forego all propriety to get on the ground with them to interact with them on their level.

When he speaks it is in soft tones and it is unusual indeed for him to raise his voice. Thusly when he does, people tend to pay attention.

As a pureblood Arcadian, he cannot use Creation magicks unaided, though he can use concept crystals from the Bureau of the Architect. He worked on an aether syphon to make up for this handicap and would continue to improve and tweak it up until the last few years of his life, offering it to his now friend Athena’s son Erichthonios in hopes it would finally give the youth full access to Creation magicks.
