I wonder if this "damn, you're watching [insert show that's ended a few years ago] just now?" mindset has always existed or if it's just a recent development in the age of rapid consumption and new shows being released every month just to be forgotten as soon as their one to three short seasons are finished. where did the idea that art has limits come from? would you enjoy Beethoven's music less because he died two centuries ago? is it wrong to appreciate Vincent van Gogh's paintings, after all, there's plenty of modern artists? if you're only watching what streaming services recommend you to, if you try to keep up with the trends, if you only make fan art of something that's currently popular, well. have fun consuming, but I would recommend to try and think for yourself. make your own choices, not the ones that are suggested to you by late stage capitalism
#this was triggered by my friend's surprise of my watching elementary in 2k24#but actually it's been a Long way coming#i constantly see stuff like '[x] in my dash in 2k24??'#and the [x] in question has only ended like five years ago which isn't even a lot#or 'ugh im not watching dr who in 2024'#(a show that's still airing but a lot of people are convinced that it's just a cringe tumblr phase from 2012)#'damn you've only got into x files last year?' yes sorry i was too busy being an infant when it started airing#there's no limit to art!#art can be bad. art can age poorly. doesn't mean it's not art#thank you and good night
