03: It was stupid
Tumblr media
Quiet conversations ring throughout the library only to be interrupted by a yelp.
"You already finished your food! This is mine!" You look over to see venti failing to protect the last of his food as hutao steals bits of it with her fork, her grin growing with each bite stolen and ventis frown deepening.
"Oh hey, there's a party later tonight, yall wanna go?" Lumine asks as she puts her phone down on the table.
"Yeah! I heard it was going to be at one of those rich people houses." Xinyan agrees
"How rich?" You ask as you take a bite of your food.
"Rich rich" Xinyan flexes her hand to emphasize her point with a smirk.
"We're all going!" Venti chimes in after giving up on protecting his food. Hutao eats it in record time.
"Let's get ready at name's apartment!" Hutao exclaims, crumbs on the side of her mouth.
"Mines? You guys will only make a mess and eat all my food!" You say as you grab a napkin and wipe the sides of hutao mouth.
"But your apartment is so nice!" Says venti,"and you're so nice and kind and beautiful and sexy. " venti bats his eyelashes.
You roll your eyes. "You're lucky flattery works on me."
They laugh, and you apologize to your poor apartment that will be a wreck by tomorrow.
Tumblr media
You sit in front of your vanity as lumine does your hair. You can hear venti and hutao getting ready as they go through your apartment like a tornado, and xinyan gets ready in your bathroom, blessing your ears with her playlist.
Since you started getting ready, lumine has been awfully quiet, looking at you with an expression you can't make out.
"Lumine." She jumps up as you break the silence with a stern tone.
"What's got you so quiet today?" You ask as you turn around to face her.
"What do you mean?" She gives you a lopsided smile and look away from you.
You don't say anything and wait for her to speak up.
She sighs and begins "the party tonight...it's not because of the new school years. It's a welcome back party...for scaramouche." She looks into your eyes as she tries to see your reaction.
You feel the ping in your heart, the same ping from all those years ago, but it's dull and muffled.
"..that's...fine." You turn back to the mirror. "I still wanna go."
Lumine smiles and continues doing your hair.
"I think you'll probably see him."
"That's fine, I'm over him."
"...I feel like you should...talk to him."
You raise an eyebrow. "Why should i?" It's a genuine question, but it comes out more mean than you intended. "...sorry."
"I don't know, I feel like there's something missing. Like...there's a reason for what happened and you can solve it"
You frown a little and look away.
"I know you still love him, and that you're very frustrated with him. Maybe you can actually move on if you talk to him."
"Okay, I'll talk to him, only! If I see him." You hope you don't ever see again.
She squeezes your shoulders "Done!"
You look up and see how beautiful you are. Your hair is done and your outfit fits you perfectly.
You just hope this night goes well

general prompt 8 with Kaeya!
Thank you for your request, dear anon! I have to admit I got a bit carried away while writing this, so it turned out longer than I intended but I'm sure you don't mind that. ^^
Prompt: general, 8: first kiss (700 followers event: Mystery Prompts)
Warnings: mentions of alcohol
Truth or dare – Kaeya x gn!reader
“What do you mean, tell us something embarrassing?” With wide eyes, you stared at Venti, then at the bottle lying flat on the table and pointing directly at you, then back at Venti who returned your gaze completely unmoved, a cheerful grin on his lips. “Don’t act like you’ve never experienced something embarrassing or made a fool of yourself, my dear (Y/N),” he laughed, nudging you with his elbow. “Come on, tell us! I promise we won’t tease you about it. Right?”
Venti looked around one, waiting for Rosaria and Kaeya to nod or hum in agreement before returning his attention back to you. “See? Nothing to fear.”
You held back a frustrated groan. Right from the start, you should’ve known that it was an awful idea to play Truth or Dare with someone like Venti and still, he somehow had managed to bring you round with just a couple of words and the most adorable puppy eyes you had ever seen. No one could say No to Venti when he looked at them like that. And that was precisely why you were sitting here right now, surrounded by your closest friends and playing a stupid game.
At first, it hadn’t been so bad, though, mainly because it hadn’t been your turn up until now. The others didn’t mind spilling some of their secrets or making a fool of themselves because of the silly tasks they had been given. Your favorite moment so far was the impromptu sermon Rosaria had to deliver right then and there – Venti’s idea, of course. She had done it without blinking an eye. Kaeya who was sitting next to you had almost choked on his drink and after a few moments, Venti had laughed so hard that tears were welling up in his eyes.
“I win,” Rosaria had said when she finished her sermon, reaching out for the bottle to pour herself yet another glass of wine. “Your turn, now.”
“(Y/N)? Hello?” Venti’s voice and his hand waving around in front of his face snapped you out of your thoughts. Ah, damn. You still hadn’t answered his stupid question. “Yeah,” you said. “Sorry.”
Venti let out an exaggerated sigh. “A bit dreamy today, aren’t we?”
You shrugged, knowing very well that he was just teasing you and didn’t expect an answer anyways.
“I hope you were thinking about your answer to my question,” he continued. You grimaced at him. “Something embarrassing, huh? Well, how about that one time where I tried to sneak a couple of books out of the library without telling Lisa, only to trip over the edge of the carpet right in front of the exit, effectively bringing Lisa into the arena? I was convinced she’d use her vision to grill me right then and there and-“
“Nah,” Rosaria interrupted you and shook her head. “I already know that story, you’ve told it plenty of times under similar circumstances. Tell us something we don’t know.”
“Yes!” Venti chimed in, and even Kaeya who had been unusually quiet since the bard gave you your task nodded. “Surely, you have some more secrets to spill,” he said, a teasing smile tugging at the corners of his mouth, immediately sending a shiver down your spine. You had always had a soft spot for the Cavalry Captain, not to say that you had a crush on him, but you had never been able to find the courage to actually tell him about your feelings. Instead, you continued to admire him from afar, basking in opportunities like this evening because it meant that you could spend some time with him.
“Alright,” you sighed. “What kind of embarrassing thing do you want to hear?”
“Who was the last person you kissed?” Venti blurted out before anyone else could say something.
Oh no.
You felt your face heating up, your cheeks burning with embarrassment as you stared down into your drink, carefully trying to avoid anyone’s gaze because you were sure that they could see the humiliating truth in your eyes.
“Ohh,” Venti chirped. “Look at you getting all flustered! Is it someone we know?”
“No, I-“
“Even better! Come on, who was it?”
You shook your head, a pointless attempt to stop him from probing further.
“Tell me! Who was it?”
“Yeah, tell him,” Rosaria said and rolled her eyes. “He won’t shut up until he knows.”
For a brief moment, you considered lying, maybe even making an entire story up, but Venti would surely see through that immediately. But you couldn’t tell them the truth, could you? Your gaze flickered towards Kaeya. No, you definitely couldn’t. Not when he was around.
“(Y/N) ~! We’re waiting.”
“Venti, listen, I-“
“Aww, come on, don’t chicken out. You agreed to tell us!”
Technically, you didn’t but it was pointless to remind him of that. He wouldn’t back down until you had given him an answer. “No one, okay?” you said, the tone of your voice a lot more defensive than you had intended. “I’ve never kissed anyone. Are you satisfied now?”
Venti blinked. The sudden silence was deafening but what felt even worse was the way Kaeya looked at you, an expression on his face that you couldn’t read, no matter how hard you tried. Was he pitying you?
Abruptly, you pushed your chair back and jumped to your feet. “Excuse me,” you said. “I need to get some fresh air.” And with that, you made your way to the stairs, heading up into the second floor and to the small balcony at the backside of the building before anyone could hold you back.
The night was a mild one, a gentle breeze brushing against your still burning cheeks as you leaned against the railing and stared up into the stars. What a disaster. You had made a complete fool of yourself, even more so when you decided to run away instead of brushing it off with a joke or something like that. And on top of that, Kaeya had seen it all.
You sighed deeply. Just great.
“Here you are,” a quiet voice spoke behind you. “Is everything alright?”
That just couldn’t be true! First, you had acted like an absolute idiot right in front of him and how, he witnessed you wallowing in self-pity like you were some kind of loser. But when you turned around to face him, there was not even the tiniest bit of condescension on his face. Instead, his expression was full of genuine concern.
Your words got stuck in your throat when Kaeya stepped closer, leaning against the railing as well.
“You know,” he said softly, “it’s no shame that you haven’t kissed anyone yet. There’s more to life than romance, and you really don’t need to bother your head about something like this. It’s not as embarrassing as you think it is.”
“It’s not about that,” you mumbled. “Well, not like you think it is, at least. It’s – I just don’t like to talk about it. That’s all.”
He hummed in response. “So it has nothing to do with me that you took flight so quickly?”
“What – what do you mean?”
“You stared at me like you were about to faint after you made your confession. I don’t know, maybe I’m overthinking but you seemed like you weren’t particularly happy about my presence in that moment.”
Damn. He really was an acute observer. You laughed awkwardly and turned your head away to avoid his gaze. “No, that’s not the case.”
“Oh, so you don’t mind that I know it now?” he asked, his voice smooth like butter as he cupped your cheek and gently forced you to look at him. Your mouth went dry. “… No.”
A smile flashed over his face. “And you wouldn’t mind if I changed it, no?”
You suddenly felt like your brain was completely empty. You couldn’t think straight, not when he was so close to you, not when his gaze flickered to your lips, then back to your eyes before he leaned in and closed the gap between the two of you. His lips were soft and warm and slotted perfectly against yours as he kissed you so softly as if he expected you to run away again if he wasn’t careful. Without breaking the kiss, he grabbed your arms to wrap them around his waist – and finally, you were able to snap out of your state of shock.
A bit impetuously, you kissed him back, tasting the faint flavor of wine on his lips. Your heart was beating to loud that you were sure that even the guests downstairs were able to hear it but in that moment, you really couldn’t care less.
When Kaeya pulled away, you couldn’t help but let out a quiet, helpless yelp. You wanted more.
He pressed his forehead against yours. “There,” he whispered, his breath brushing against your still tingling lips, “now you have been kissed.”
“You…” You interrupted yourself, clearing your throat when you realized how breathless your voice sounded. “You wouldn’t mind doing that again, would you?”
Kaeya smiled. “Not at all, my dear.”
Thank you for reading! If you enjoyed it please consider reblogging. I'd appreciate the support. <3
