hmmm I can't think of any events for the world overall, that doesn't mean I might not come up with something later tho

but for Le (: (: I don't think I've ever actually talked about what made her become a hunter ?? on here I mean, I've discussed it on discord but that doesn't count. I was kind of stuck trying to decide which of these to answer first but I ultimately decided the last ask provided some good background for this one so. anyway!!

Le's brother had gone away for a weekend camping trip with friends. at least, that was what he'd told their family, anyway. Le was the only one who knew the truth, that Matt was going to spend the weekend sharing a cabin with a man he'd been seeing.

it wasn't that their family was unsupportive. their father couldn't have been prouder when his son came out. but being one of the only openly gay boys in his small, rural, Texas high school had made dating.. difficult. Matt was 18, but not yet graduated, and had sworn his sister to secrecy for fear of worrying their poor dad. and Le trusted her big brother and his judgement.

but when he returned home, it was immediately clear that something was wrong.

he'd gone straight to bed, saying he hadn't slept well all weekend. but the next morning, he didn't come down to breakfast. when he did finally leave his room, he looked more tired than before. and when he did pick at his food, it had almost immediately sent him running to the sink.

for the next week, Matt didn't leave his room. he wouldn't even let Le in to hang out, to watch movies or play games. and that was how she knew that something was terribly, horribly wrong.

one evening, their father had finally grown worried enough to ask a doctor to come by on an unorthodox house call. their grandfather had come over too, worried about his grandson.

and that was the night it happened.

the trio had to take the door off its hinges to get into his room, and just like that, all hell broke loose. Le came running to Matt's room when she heard the screaming and commotion, just in time to see her grandfather trying to wrestle her beloved brother from the doctor's bloodied body.

vampires may be a secret in her world, but Le knew all about them. her grandfather had filled their turkey hunting trips with stories of the more dangerous prey he'd hunted in his younger years.

that's why when Le went scrambling to grab the family shotgun from the cabinet, she knew to grab the silver shells.

three people died that evening. Le wished she was one of them.
