i do think there is a larger thing to when ppl are trying to justify their characterizations where they're trying to pull from a source material they have not read. like i'm not saying you have to read the books to have an opinion on the characters in the show but if you're going to try to use passages from the books to support your interpretation, you should have at least read the text from which you are pulling. if you're just grabbing 1 or 2 line screenshots completely removed from context that other ppl have posted online for your evidence, that's not really a good basis for an argument i don't know what else to tell you

#if you're going to analyze the characters from the show and not read the books then use what's in the show as your evidence #there's a ton of purposeful character choices and it's a very rich vein to mine for textual analysis #but if you're going to start incorporating stuff from the books at the very least read the pages before and after the quote you want to use #so you can gain even a little context for what is actually being presented #this isn't a problem unique to the iwtv crowd btw this is pervasive in a most tv/movie fandoms that are adapted from books #sorry i had made my earlier post right as i woke up and then i fell back asleep woke up again and remembered that i had more to say #vampterview
