#this is the timeline i'm running off of in my canon for nico at the very least

i wanted to know if you have any plans for the og campers???? like luke, clarisse, silena, beckendorf, etc etc

this is SO funny bc i was literally JUST talking to @wronghuntress about them like a few hours ago😭😭 BUT to answer your question,,, it's sort of complicated. bc i didn't realize that i was doing it until like a good way into the series, but i've been unintentionally picturing pretty much all of the og campers/people from the main pjo series as part of the acting side of hollywood, whereas i've been leaning more toward, like, toa/side/minor characters for the rest of the main cast! this makes sense to me because like, nico and will get their big moment in toa, and apollo's a huge character too. percy and annabeth are actors obviously, but i did give them some connections to nico - but either way, i guess i just saw all of those characters as not really having any sort of connection to nico & will (even though i'm the hugest fan of will being close with clarisse and silena and beckendorf- he was totally will's bi awakening it's canon u heard it from me)

but anyway im getting off track, i've sort of had like a completely separate plotline for them going on in my head (not really detailed at all, i'd have to think about it more), dealing with more of those og characters, including percy annabeth and grover! i'm not entirely sure if that'll ever be included in the main fic seeing as they don't have much connection to nico's storyline specifically, but who knows... maybe a spinoff fic one day? i definitely won't be able to write some long 100k fic for them but i'd love to dive into that!

the only thing that i DO see happening is - if you remember this, a while ago, i mentioned the possibility of a third fic or some future plans for nico to write a musical to get that egot, namely hadestown. while the idea was being organized in my head, i've been thinking of silena as helping nico write the musical and playing eurydice, and then ofc i'd love having beckendorf play orpheus - i think he gives the vibes?? or is that just me???

and then jenna (wronghuntress) gave me the BEAUTIFUL idea earlier today of this... silena and charlie as actors, specifically broadway/musical theater actors (though im sure they have also been in some other projects), clarisse as silena's bodyguard,,, and im usually so against love triangles but like. there's so much potential there - again, nothing's finalized, i dont even know if i'm gonna write it, i don't really have ANY plans other than potentially making nico contact silena when he wants to work on his musical and having them + beckendorf work together for the demo recording - it's all VERY vague and blurry so we'll see if i come up with anything more to fall down that rabbit hole!

and as for luke, i pretty much have this: he's an actor, at some point he was prob friends with annabeth after working on a show together or smth, and ends up getting cancelled. for what? i'm not entirely sure yet, but it's probably very shitty for the internet to turn against a hot white guy. actually that fact might make him getting cancelled very unrealistic. but like it's my fic so that's what i'm saying happens! unfortunately he prob still gets roles and he's prob still like a millionaire and stuff but in general: bad person. though he probably (and thalia, because she used to be an actress too before running away) were in a movie/show/something with annabeth when she was young and they kinda mentored her/helped her learn the ropes before her big break. they started a club of neglected child actors which eventually turned into just annabeth, but at least she has percy and reyna and jason and piper and magnus on her side now :)

so long story short: i don't have specific plans, but they're all actors and definitely have a lot of lore that one day i would like to try to figure out!! for now i'm still very focused on tgol/the side stories that take place in THAT main timeline (so right now it'd be 2020-2024), whereas all of the main drama/plot in the actors' timeline would be happening BEFORE talk your talk (percy + annabeth + thalia + luke + silena) (around 2008-2015) or AFTER the greatest of luxuries (silena + clarisse + beckendorf + chris(??? i have no idea what's going on with him?? he's prob famous somehow but idk??? or maybe like childhood friend tis the damn season vibe. god there are so many fame tropes i have yet to unlock and so many characters i have yet to mess with) (around 2024-2026)

EVIDENCE AND LOGIC BEHIND THE CANON DIVERGENCES 

below the cut where i explain shit that i changed or tweaked. also where i logic my way through a lot of the inconsistencies of canon since rick’s said three different years for when nico is born, etc., so i basically yeet myself into a history lesson on ww2 ( which is why there are the triggers there are listed below ) to make sense of nico’s history and timeline. 

trigger warnings : fascism tw / nazis tw / nazism tw / death tw

nico’s birth year : we’re given nico’s birth year as being 1924, 1932, and 1933 in various official sources, but these would’ve ended up having nico be 19, 13, and 12 years old respectively when his mother dies in 1946 ( see below ). nico is supposed to be a really little kid when he goes into the lotus casino, but there’s other events in his life that make him HAVE to be born a certain year, etc. in order to keep as close to canon as possible, i’ve settled on 1934, since it means he’s 11 years old when his mother dies. not perfect, but having nico be born any later than that and it’s pushing at the beginning of ww2 at a close enough proximity that nico would most likely have not been a) old enough in general but also b) old enough to remember details of his life that he needs to remember / does remember in the books. not that he should be able to remember any of that shit since he got dunked in the river lethe, but i’m doing the best i can with what i’ve got here, so 1934 it is.

di angelo family’s departure from italy : ( nazism tw / facism tw ) why did the di angelo family wait to leave italy ( a warzone ) in the middle of WW2 and not when it started? the simple and shitty answer-- they didn’t feel like they had the need to. even though maria is the child of an american diplomat, hades is able to keep them safe in italy because it’s his children that are the dominant power there, so they’re ( supposedly ) safe where they are. the di angelos finally decide to leave italy when mussolini is removed from power in 1943 and an armistice is called between italy and the allied forces. i chose to have them wait this long to leave rather than following the vague af implications of canon because a) it makes more sense and b) nico has a distinct memory of his neighbor pietro, who was a veteran of mussolini’s african campaign. that campaign ended in 1943, so nico would’ve met pietro and been somewhat familiar with him and his experiences on the campaign ( which is what nico remembers about him in his conversation with reyna ) before leaving italy later that year. 

pact of the big three : ( nazism tw / nazis tw ) the pact of the big three was set up after the end of WW2 in 1945. it was set in place for two reasons-- one, the oracle of delphi delivered the great prophecy stating that the next child of the big three to reach sixteen years old would either save or destroy olympus, and two, the world had jUST been nearly destroyed by demigod children already ( canon says that WW2 was the children of zeus and poseidon on the allied forces side versus hades’ children, who were nazis. yikes. ). sO zeus, poseidon, and hades all agreed to not have mortal kids ( in some parts of canon, it says ever again, in others it says the next seventy years. it should probably be noted that hades is the only one that actually upheld the pact regardless of what the rules were ). given that hades is only permitted in olympus once a year on the winter solstice, it makes sense that the date of them making the pact official would be on the day he’s allowed to be there.

maria di angelo’s death year : okay so according to maria’s wiki, she died at the beginning of WW2, which if i’m being honest isn’t possible. let me tell you why. the reason maria was killed was because zeus was attempting to kill bianca and nico. after the pact of the big three was made, zeus demanded that hades send bianca and nico ( who were already born at this point ) to camp halfblood. hades and maria ( justifiably ) don’t believe zeus’ intentions are good, so hades offers maria and his children a place in the underworld ( which is why persephone hates nico so much, like imagine your husband announced he was gonna move his mistress and kids into your home ), which maria declines since she doesn’t want her kids raised in that environment. long story short, they were right about zeus, and he blows up the hotel they were staying at. maria is killed in the accident but hades is able to save his children from zeus’ attack ( which is what has them being sent to the lotus casino, it’s the only place he can think of to keep them safe and out of zeus’ gaze ). hades says in a flashback scene that they’ve already gone over the deadline for when the kids have to be sent away by one week. if we assume that the pact was made official on the winter solstice, as i do, the first day of the new year seems like a logical deadline to have. add a week to that, and it’s january 7th, 1946. this is honestly the closest i can get to a reasonable death year for maria, as it follows after the formation of the pact, which is the reason for her death in the first place, and establishes a reasonable timeline of events leading up to her dying that fits with canon.

why the gap year after the lotus casino? : canon. nico excitedly tells percy and the gang about all the monsters that have been following after them for the last year or so, and grover’s been tracking them down for awhile by the time titan’s curse rolls around. so yea, that happens, and while it gives nico a bit more time to grow and puts him out of step with how old he’s supposed to be ( grover claims that nico is ten years old; my canon has him as being twelve in titan’s curse ), it sticks as close to canon as possible and ends up with nico being almost the same age. he’s slightly older in the end, but sometimes it be like that.

nico’s time in tartarus : canon says he’s in there about eleven days, and he just about loses his gd mind. annabeth and percy are in tartarus for eighteen days and come out traumatized but they haven’t gone totally crazy. part of this is due to the fact that they have each other, but it’s canon that nico as a child of hades would have more resilience to the effects of tartarus. i have him being in tartarus for closer to a month because i think it would take longer to mentally break him to the extent he is than it would for annabeth and percy, and we know from things like nico meeting akherys ( who says that she can’t do much to him because he’s already so miserable ) that he’s not as strongly affected by tartarus as others are. so based on what we know of nico’s resilience levels and his time in tartarus, and what we learn from annabeth and percy’s trip, i think making the time that nico spends in tartarus last longer makes the most sense.
