mulder in the early seasons of the show: i don't want to shoot anybody... i just can't live with the guilt of knowing i ended a life :(
meanwhile, scully:

#this is more so in the season 1 era but still. i can't stop laughing at the dichotomy.#her aim is so much better and she WILL shoot someone right in the collarbone to wound but not kill them which i believe contributes#but also? if she needs to kill someone? well. it gets done. and i love that for her!#the x files#txf#lmao

S5E7 "Hybrid Creatures" thoughts
That's it. Those are my thoughts.
.
.
.
Kinda...
I'm kinda used to the writers putting Nadja in situations and see what it sticks, but (un)holy shit its so obvious that they don't know what to do with her character. What we do in the shadows learn how to write women challenge.
I don't know if the Guide even appeared. My stream stopped a couple times and I have to refresh so maybe I missed her (if not see previous point because it also applies to her).
LOVED Nadja's kitty hair buns, love to see that at least the hair and costume department still cares about her.
The line about burning the school made me roll my eyes, not only because that story doesn't make sense with what we learned about her childhood, but also because I can FEEL when tv shows throw lines with the specific expectations of them being gifed, become memes, etc.
I know it's stupid to discuss about the ethics of Laszlo's experiments on the dick and balls show but in this episode I was all 😬😬😬 about it. Like, I don't give a shit if it was done with comedy purposes, animal experimentation is one of the subjects I will never find remotely funny or make jokes with, specially if we start thinking... How much consent Guillermo gave for Laszlo to straight up play with his DNA in this way? He has nothing to say about it except for a confused frown or looking panicky at the sight of the creatures?? More important, if Nandor did this exact same thing the past season and created the hybrids with a Djinn wish or whatever, how would the fandom have reacted??? (spoiler: waaay more angered than when everybody's fave Laszlo does it).
The work of puppetry and digital effects was good as always, nothing bad to say about the team behind the cameras that puts all their hard work and craft on this, sadly, mid storyline.
Despite how little I care about mAd ScIenTiSt Lazslo plot, the moment when Guillermo believes he won't help him anymore was truly heartbreaking just by looking at his face. You can see he really has all his hopes in Laszlo finding a 'cure'.
I wish the whole thing about Guillermo being incapable of killing the hybrids hit me harder (as if we didn't saw him luring innocent teenagers so they can get killed in the literal pilot).
Sorry but that lady character didn't work for me and the "Helen the Magic Johnson" joke was unfunny and kinda old :/ i wonder if half of the wwdits fandom even got the reference (also lmao shameless product placement, you can tell they needed the money to pay for the cgi used on the creatures).
Colin was like his season 1 self. I bet the wwdits reddit ate up that shit.
See also: Laszlo calling Guillermo 'Gizmo' again. Hated it.
Colin becoming the stereotypical 'cool' white liberal teacher was hilarious specially when he said the cliché "history is written by the oppressors" line because that's where the parody becomes too obvious. This is the guy whose dna results on s1 were "100% white" after all. AND YET some people here are still celebrating and repeating it as this 'so true bestie 😔✊' moment without realizing the show's laughing at you, not with you. But hey, this is the we don't get satire even if it bites on our ass site. Imagine fans celebrating when Kendall Succession shouted "fuck the patriarchy!" in front of the paparazzi for being a #feminist. That's how wooosh the moment went over some of y'alls heads.
Nandor and Colin at the museum felt a little tackled on, but at least Nandor annoyance at his personal items being displayed was fun.
And Colin being friendly (dare I say…sweet?) with him at the end again gave me a happy smile. I'll never guessed this season was all about the Colin and Nandor (Condor??) era but I'm all for it.
Biggest Mild laugh of the night: Nandor mannequin having male and female lovers on the display, the dude is wearing Calvin Kleins!
I can't say much about Guillermo leaving the hybrids at the senior home because it's a overused ending for wwdits at this point. Seriously, when this show doesn't know how to end an episode they always do the same shit: Leave the characters that are a problem in a different place. It happened with: Topher at the zombie sweatshop, Jim the vampire as the volleyball coach in Tucson, familiar Benji in a different city/state (forgot where), The Baron and the Sire in the countryside, Derek working at Sean's MLM, Freddie!Marwa in the Uk. They have done this ending 👏🏼lots 👏🏼 of 👏🏼 times👏🏼already!!
Having a wank?! The setup and payoff for this joke really worked.
Next episode seems interesting.
Anyway, I am once again asking for the Djinn...
#of course i found a way to sneak character of all time Kendall Roy in my conversations#what we do in the shadows#wwdits#wwdits thoughts

Millie Winchester- Season 1
Faith- 4
"You really think it's the Grim Reaper? Like, angel of death, collect your soul, the whole deal?" Sam questioned.
"No, no, no, not the reaper- a reaper." Millie corrected. "There's reaper law in pretty much every culture on earth, it goes by 100 different names, it's possible that there's more than one of them."
"But you said you saw a dude in a suit." Sam pointed out, looking at Dean.
"What, you think he should've been working the whole black-robe thing?" Dean retorted, to which Sam didn't have an answer. "You said it yourself that the clock stopped, right? Reapers stop time. And you can only see them when they're coming at you which is why I could see it and you two couldn't."
"He's right." Millie nodded.
"Maybe." Sam said.
"There's nothing else it could be Sam. The question is how is Roy controlling the damn thing?"
"That cross." Millie realised.
"What?"
"There was this cross, I noticed it in the church and I knew I had seen it before." Millie said, as she began looking through the papers. She let out a short laugh when she found what she was looking for, and held it for her brothers to see. "Here."
"A tarot?" Dean asked.
"It makes sense." Sam nodded. "A tarot dates back to the early Christian era, right, when some priests were still using magic? And a few of them veered into the dark stuff- necromancy and how to push death away, how to cause it."
"So Roy is using black magic to bind the reaper?" Dean checked.
"If he is, he's riding the whirlwind. It's like putting a dog leash on a great white." Millie shook her head. Dean stood up, to put his cup in the sink, then leant back against it.
"Ok, then we stop Roy."
"How?" Sam asked.
"You know how." Dean answered.
"Wait, what the hell are you talking about Dean, we can't kill Roy." Sam argued, while Millie looked at him in shock.
"Sam, the guy's playing God, he's deciding who lives and who dies. That's a monster in my book."
"No. We're not going to kill a human being Dean. We do that we're no better than he is."
"Ok, we can't kill Roy, we can't kill death. Any bright ideas, college boy?"
"Hey!" Millie snapped. "I get that you're pissed, but knock it off! Look, if Roy's using some kind of black spell on the reaper, we got to figure out what it is and how to break it."
***************
The Impala bounced along the gravel as the siblings drove back to the church tent.
"If Roy's using a spell, there might be a spell book." Sam guessed.
"You two, see if you can find it. Hurry up, too. The service starts in 15 minutes. I'll try to stall Roy." Dean said.
"Roy Le Grange is a fraud. He's no healer." The protestor from earlier told them, handing Dean a leaflet.
"Amen Brother." Dean agreed.
"You keep up the good work." Sam told him.
"Spread the word." Millie added.
"Thank you."
***************
Sam and Millie watched from the corner of Roy's porch as he was led down the stairs by his wife and another man. When the Le Granges were out of sight, the two climbed in through the window and began searching the house. Sam looked through the bookshelves, while Millie looked through the cabinets, when Sam spotted the dust on the shelf. He pulled out the only book that didn't have dust in front of it, which was an Encyclopaedia of Christian History. He flipped through it, not finding anything to do with magic, but then spotted a smaller book hidden behind where the Encyclopaedia had been.
"Millie." Sam whispered, showing his sister the book.
Millie watched as Sam flipped through the pages. In it, was a picture of a skeleton reaper, a picture of the wooden cross from the tent and newspaper articles of the people who had died. The man who had died in Dean's place was an openly gay teacher and the woman who had died recently was an advocate for abortion rights. They also found a clipping of the protester they had seen outside the tent. The siblings looked at one another, realising that the protester was the next target.
***************
Dean was walking up the aisle of the church when his cell phone rang.
"What have you got?" Dean asked.
"Roy's choosing victims he sees as immoral." Millie said, putting Dean on speaker phone. "And we think we know who's next on his list. Remember that protester."
"What, the guy in the parking lot?"
"Yeah. Yeah, we'll find him." Sam assured Dean. "But you can't let Roy heal anyone, alright?"
****************
Sam and Millie searched around the parking lot, while Dean was trying unsuccessfully to convince Layla to not allow Roy to heal her.
"Help!" Wright, the protester, yelled as he ran around a car. The siblings turned, trying to find where the voice was coming from. "Help! Help me, please!"
Sam and Millie managed to find him, pressed against a car, trying to get away from the reaper. They looked around wildly, unable to see the invisible man.
"Where is he!" Millie yelled.
"Right there!" Wright screamed, grabbing on to Millie's shoulder and pointing in the direction of the reaper.
"Alright, come on." Sam said, as they grabbed Wright and led him away.
***************
Dean pulled out his phone after managing to get the crowd to leave the tent.
"I did it, I stopped Roy." He told Millie.
"David, I think it's ok." Millie assured the protester.
David nodded, looking around, but gasped when he turned and saw the reaper in front of him. "No!"
"Dean, it didn't work! The reaper's still coming!" Millie yelled into the phone, as David was forced onto his knees. "I'm telling you, I'm telling you it must not have worked! Roy must not be the one controlling this thing."
"Then who the hell is?" Dean questioned, looking around the tent, when he saw Roy's wife reciting something in the corner. "Sue Ann."
Dean ran up to her and spun her around, making Sue Ann gasp and clutch at the cross on her chain- the same cross as the one in the church.
"Help! Help me!" Sue Ann called out to the cops, who grabbed at Dean roughly. Dean nodded, not having expected anything better from her.
Meanwhile, the reaper released David, who had been gasping for breath, then disappeared. Millie and Sam moved to help David up, when they realised he was no longer being attacked by the reaper.
"We've got you. We've got you."
"Thank God."
Back at the tent, Dean was escorted outside by the cops, with Sue Ann following close behind.
"I just don't understand." Sue Ann sighed, pretending to be upset. "After everything we've done for you. After Roy healed you. I'm just very, very disappointed Dean."
Dean stared at her, refusing to speak.
"You can let him go." Sue Ann told the cops. "I'm not gonna press charges. The Lord will deal with him as... He sees fit."
Sue Ann left and the cops turned to Dean. "We catch you round here again, son, we'll put the fear of God in you, understand?"
"Yes, sir, fear of God. Got it." Dean snarked. The cops gave him one last shove, where he found himself staring at Layla. "Layla?"
"Why would you do that, Dean? And it could have been my only chance."
"He's not a healer."
"He healed you."
"I know it doesn't seem fair, and I wish I could explain. But Roy is not the answer, I'm sorry."
"Goodbye, Dean." Layla said, tearfully, turning to leave. "I wish you luck. I really do."
"Same to you." Dean replied, watching her walk away. "You deserve it a lot more than me."
"Private session tonight, no interruptions." Dean overheard Roy saying to Layla's mother. "I give you my word, I'll heal your daughter."
"Thank you reverend. God bless you."
****************
"So, Roy really believes." Sam gathered, when the Winchesters got back to the motel and Dean had explained the situation.
"I don't think he has any idea what his wife's doing."
"Well, we found this." Sam said, handing the book to Dean. "Hidden in their library."
"It's ancient. Written by a priest who went dark side." Millie explained. "There's a binding spell in here for trapping a reaper."
"Must be a hell of a spell." Dean commented.
"Yeah. You got to build a black altar with seriously dark stuff- bones, human blood." Sam said. "To cross a line like that, a preacher's wife. Black magic, murder... evil."
"Desperate." Dean corrected. "Her husband was dying, she didn't have anything to save him. She was using the binding spell to keep the reaper away from Roy."
"Cheating death, literally."
"Yeah, but Roy's alive, so why is she still using the spell?"
"Right. To force the reaper to kill people she thinks are immoral." Millie explained, bitterly.
"May God save us from half the people who think they're doing God's work." Dean scoffed.
"We got to break that binding spell." Sam said, looking at his siblings. Dean looked down at the picture of the cross.
"You know, Sue Ann had a coptic cross like this. When she dropped it the reaper backed off."
"So, you think we got to find the cross or destroy the altar?" Millie asked.
"Maybe both. Whatever we do we better do it soon. Roy's healing Layla tonight."

Note
I also wanted somewhere to go about the whole chan thing rn so I hope u don't mind luv,
apparently he's currently underfire for "making a joke out of Jim crow" which if anyone reading this doesn't know is an extremely racist era in American history where laws were made specifically against black people, as well as they were portrayed as a very offensive character (that's Jim crow, the character, his name is also used to represent the discriminatory laws)
the only proof I've seen being shared around is him dancing to "this is america" by childish Gambino in which he makes this pose

but with a thumbs up instead of a gun, the pose itself is in reference to a popular portraying of the Jim crow character

https://youtu.be/VNtA_0BR6Pw you can see the clip people are referencing here at 6:35
now i tried to keep the background info section of this unbiased,, but in my opinion he did it literally as the pose that's in the music video, not with Ill intent; which in my head doesn't make it racist. however people online are treating it as if he deliberately was laughing at or making fun of Jim crow laws or the character in some way. personally as a poc I see nothing wrong with it, but I also just feel like people love bringing up things from years ago to start drama during comeback season? don't get me wrong, holding people accountable is great, but 1) this was in 2018, 2) from what I've seen they've issued a general apology for this type of thing on insta**, and 3) idols are still infact people, and people that live literally on the other side of the world at that. I Don't wanna play the "they didn't know" card but it's always a possibility that they genuinely didn't know or understand that it was bad. I don't see chan doing anything disrespectful in that manner anytime recently, assuming he's understood now that it's not something he should be doing and adjusting his behavior. if it was a current issue that he's still making these mistakes I'd be in full support of the mass emails and mass bubble messages and everything else, I do support calling out idols when they're in the wrong, but I feel like sometimes people take it way farther than it needs to, almost as if they're looking for a reason to cancel people.
I really don't understand why it's being made into as big of a deal as it is, and I wish people would stop and think "would this really be helpful right now or am I doing this because someone on Twitter told me to" before inflating severity like this.
** I can't put a ss of the apology rn cause ya bitch got anger issues and deleted Twitter insta and tiktok bc its 4am and this situation is very literally the only thing I see on all of my feeds.
thank you for such an informative ask. im obviously not gonna sit here and defend chan because he did do something wrong and it did offend people. when we dont know about certain things and we see them in media its not odd that we copy behaviours or things we've seen and that doesnt mean i justify such behaviour but its a different reality when you have been raised in a korean culture where poc rights have only been discussed the last 10 years which is a shame but sadly true.
im just happy to know that he wants to be held accountable for his behaviour if he accidentally does/says something that can cause any misconceptions. that in my mind doesnt sound like a person that would deliberately do something in order to offend someone but rather a person that is willing to learn from their mistakes and learn more about other cultures and life experiences.
