The #actually______ tags started with #actuallyautistic as a way for the autistic community to escape the Autism Parents (TM) who had invaded the autism tags.

From the beginning, these tags have been intended to include all autistic people, regardless of diagnosis status.

Of course, ableist jerks who want to attack self-diagnosed people have attempted to co-opt these tags and have tried to convince everyone that self-diagnosed people aren't "actually" autistic, but that happens with almost any language we use.

People who glorify profressionals and bash self-diagnosis believe that a diagnosis is what makes someone #actually______

However, the majority of us in these communities know that the road to a diagnosis can fraught with challenges, abuse, dehumanization, invalidation, or completely inaccessible. We know that neurodivergence does not reside in a medical report.
