He’s No Prince Charming
Pairing: Shawn x Y/N
Scenario: We’re just friends right? Thats all we’ll ever be.
Requested: Nope, but guess who can start writing more often now!
A/N; This may or may not be a series. This may or may not be me trying to get back into writing and accepting requests....
Tumblr media
I hated it. I hated being on the sideline and being treated as second best, but what I hated most of all was keeping these feelings I had for an extraordinary guy.
I always told myself I wasn’t going to be one of those girls that would fall for an insanely hot, sweet, honest rockstar of a dork, but look where I am now. Getting swept off my feet for a guy that gives me smiles each time I pass by, talks to me when days on the road trips from on country to the next get slow and boring, and constantly gives the ‘You’re the best I don’t know what I’d do without you.’ speech.
Each day passes by, feeling more annoyed than the last as I continue this ‘We’re just friends’ charade. Well I guess it really isn’t because that’s all we’ll ever be right? My thoughts on the tortuous subject get disrupted by two words from the devil himself.
“Hey Y/N.”, he speaks as he climbs into the bus.
“Hey Shawn, what’s up?” I asked casually, already knowing he’s going to talk about his day, rub my shoulder, tell me to be less tense, and that Im the best...because that’s all we ever seem to talk about nowadays.
“Pretty good. Rehearsal was wild. You should come watch next time.” Shawn smiled, giving me the same soft puppy eyes..you know the ones that stare deep into my soul and feelings.
“I would but working with Tom on tech design never takes a break.” you sighed, plopping down on the couch.
Shawn chuckles at my remark as he comes behind me to place his large hands on my tiny shoulders, slowly massaging them and tickling my sides. Giggling uncontrollably, I slap his hands away from me and shift myself over so he has room to sit properly. Slowing putting his arms around me as I lay my head on his shoulders.
It was unexpected the position we were in, but I liked it. I never wanted the moment to pass, but all good things come to an end at some point. “You always seem so stressed Y/N, more than me and that says a lot. You should let loose and have fun. Don’t let Tom drown you in work.” He gets up, leaving me on the couch, and heads towards his room. “You’re the best and don’t you forget it.” he casually says right as he makes his exit.
I turn my face over onto the couch and muffle out my screams of frustrations. Why was the boy always making it so hard to stay professional and just be friends? It’s a greedy thing to say, but I wanted more. I wanted so much more.
“You okay Y/N?”, I heard Geoff asked.
“Just peachy.” I mumbled.
“So, where's you’re boyfriend run off too? I thought he’d be with you?” Geoff asked, cracking a smile.
“Who?” I asked in confusion.
“Don’t play dumb. I see the way you and Shawn interact when you’re both alone.”
“Sorry to break your heart Gossip Girl, it’s nothing like that at all.” I said in a blunt tone.
I looked up at Geoff, as he continued to give me his ‘I know it all’ smile. Geez, can’t a girl be in peace while she contemplates her complicated love life by herself. “I’m just saying...I’ve seen the way he looks at you.” Geoff sang, as he took a sip of his beer.
“Well if it was anything like that, why hasn’t Prince Charming swept me off my feet, and taken me to his castle where we can live happily every after?” I challenged.
“Y/N...he already has. Listen the clumsy kid may be no prince charming but he’s meant for you. You’re just missing the happily ever after because neither of you want to admit it to one another.” Geoff explains. I was almost impressed by his words. If he wasn’t planning on staying as a guitar technician for the rest of his life, he’d certainly make it as a love guru.
“Wow that was pretty deep.”
“Hey, I maybe a buff 6′3 man, but I have a big heart too.” He raise his hand in defense. You stood up pondering the thought, it couldn’t hurt right? Talking to Shawn and seeing how he felt too. “Honestly Y/N, what’s the worst that could happen?”
“Oh I don’t know. Him saying no, neither of us talking anymore. Having it become so awkward that neither of us will be able to stand each other that I might have to leave because it will be too much for my poor heart to handle.”
Geoff rolled his eyes. “Y/N, it’s not gonna happen because I know he likes you too. If you want I can go talk to him for you.I won't make it obvious I promise.”
And it feels like my prayers have been answered...for now. The whole week drags on, and nothing has happened. I cant help but worry for the worse. Geoff probably told Shawn, he didn’t feel the same way, wanted to escape the fires of hell, and just avoid me at all costs. The best part was that Christmas was just around the corner, and I was ready to accept that my fairytale ending wasn’t coming anytime soon.
As the crew and Shawn all went out for drinks, I decided to walk back to the bus and call it a night. Until...someone tugged my hand.
“You know...I never noticed how tiny your hands are. they’re so cute like baby hands.” he chuckled, rubbing small circles on the top with his thumb. I looked at Shawn, giving him an unamused look as his laughter died down. “Look...can you come with me for a second?”
“Shawn, I don't know. I really don't want go out to drink, I just wanna--”
“Im not taking you there, I want to show you something...just please.”
I let out a sigh before reluctantly coming back down the bus. He grabbed my hand once again as we make our way through the cold snowy streets of New York City. I would be lying if I said I hated this, whether he liked me or not, I still did.
“Central Park?” I questioned him as we made our way in front of an open snowy area.
“Yeah, but this isn't the spot I wanted to show you.” A few more minutes of silent walking and I couldn’t believe my eyes. The scenery was breath taking, the lake was frozen, with snow lightly dusted on the branches of trees that surround it. It was simple but beautiful in it’s own way.
“Wow, Shawn this is beautiful. I’ve never seen such a view.” I smiled watching my breath form in the chilly air.
“I could say the same thing about you.” he said, unexpectedly. I looked at him confused, and trying to process what he just said, if he said it at all.
“Y/N, you're special to me. I know I always say that to you but I mean it. You’re not just another girl, another fan, another coworker. You mean so much more to me.” He spoke sincerely , placing both of my hands in his.
“Shawn I--” he placed his finger to my lips.
“I can’t stop thinking about you, and when you're gone I count the time till I get to se you again and just have a simple conversation no matter how small it is. For months I’ve been trying to figure this all out, and how I truly felt because I didn’t want to screw up what could have been. Now I know. I know that I want to be with you, but I need to know...if the girl I love, feels the same way.”
I couldn’t believe the words I was hearing. It almost seemed like a dream, it had to be right? I’ve wanted this for so long and it was really happening. Shawn was right here with me in this beautiful park, telling me what I’ve wanted to hear. I was feeling everything all at once, that a tear had shed from eyes. Slowly, Shawn lifted his hand and rubbed it away gently.
“Even when you’re crying, you’re beautiful too.” He smiled.
I laughed at his John Legend pun. “Even in serious moments like theses, you still find a way to throw in a pun.”
“They’ll be more if you’ll have me.”
I looked into those damn brown eyes again, and time seemed to stop, but my heart did all the talking with two simple words. “I do.”
Shawn and I both looked up and noticed the little mistletoe handing from the branch.
“Did you strategically put it there?” I asked, raising my eyebrow.
He laughed at the situation. “No, but Im glad it’s there.”
“Well what are you waiting for?! KISS HER!” we turned our heads to hear the voice that was yelling, only to see Geoff, Andrew, Tom, and the rest of the gang  sitting on the benches watching our little happy ending.
Shawn placed his hand on my cheek looking at me intensely as he stroked it softly. Leaning in slowly, we closed our eyes as our lips touched, feeling his warm breath. It was magic. Shawn is no prince charming, but he was mine and that’s all I ever wanted.
