basically, a big part of the storyline is the line between Human and Other. Human and Weapon, Human and Divine, Human and Idea, etc etc. Each character is the thing theyre made to embody, The Dice, The Spade, The Caged Bird, The Free Bird, The Prince, & The Coin. they play those parts in the narrative.

They are referred to as their epithets at different points in the story, by other characters, the narrator, or themselves. but when they are called their epithets vs. their names is very intentional. theres a whole lot of symbolism involved etc etc

but basically. I got so used to calling them by their epithets so im still!! in the process of giving them names!! ive got ideas though I just have to settle on ones I like
