i really like the costuming on the newsreader. it looks period accurate to me [person who was not watching australian news in the 1980s], which conveniently lets them lean into the way that clothes create exaggerated shapes, silhouettes. dale's clothes go from loose in a way that makes him look small in s1-2 to boxy in a way that makes him look larger & more authoritative in s3, & we see him wear clothes with that effect more often in his personal life. helen's outfits are comfortable, casual trousers, menswear in brighter colors; on air, her clothes again reshape her body, making her exaggeratedly feminine. i keep thinking about her fixing dale's hair in 1x01, telling him that it's all about shape, that's what people remember.
