u know i gotta go with akane here. a lot of people don't like her and i can understand that a bit, but i feel like a lot of the accusations made toward her r thin covers for misogyny i'll b real. yes she clobbers ranma, but this IS a slapstick comedy- the only major character that doesn't ever clobber or get clobbered is probably kasumi. there's also the argument that she never hears ranma out before jumping to her own conclusions, and that's totally fair, but also u can see after he points that out to her in the hot springs urn episode, she rlly does take it to heart and is a lot better about it for the rest of the series. there's many times where everyone else thinks badly of him and she's the only one who thinks theres more to the story

akane was revolutionary, and in a lot of ways still is. she is loud and strong and has a fiery temper, she can't cook, can't sew, can't draw, can't really do most traditionally feminine things (while ranma can), she isn't graceful, and she gets probably the least amount of fanservice in the series of all the girls aside from ukyo. the anime especially leaves her in ranma's dust, but she's a very talented martial artist and is rarely the damsel in distress. hell, i think in the manga it's ranma that needs rescuing more often than her. i personally headcanon that she got into martial arts and had soun train her after her mom died as a way to get her dad to do something, and found she really enjoyed it

ranma's other suitors, especially shampoo, are meant to be her foils and be everything ranma claims he prefers in girls, and harkening back to me saying this isn't a harem anime, it is so important in the series that akane is consistently the one he chooses. like obviously ship whatever u want, i like ranryo and all that, but for the actual canon it had to be akane he ended up with. akane isn't soft and sweet and affectionate in the same way shampoo, ukyo, and kodachi are, but she doesn't need to be. she's akane, and ranma loves her for her, just as she loves him for him
