As a Russian I felt obliged to watch 80`s USSR Moomins (my mother grew up on them and loved Groke lol)

So I redrew and translated the moments from there

(I tried to translate as much as possible as in the original)

In fact, they are not as cursed as they may seem at first glance, I found them funny to watch, maybe it is because I am used to the look of such cartoons and do not find them scary (I really liked Sniff, he seemed to be the best character here, and Snufkin, whose brain seemed to have been taken away, killed me)

When your hat was sold to Groke, everyone made you conjure some bullshit all night, but gave you pancakes:

There was that Moominmama wanted to lose weight, but asked to conjure up a kilogram of ham, Snufkin asked for a typewriter (I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY)

Moomins in An Uncharted Island

Many of Moominvalley’s residents have sailed on an expedition to a new exotic land and discovered this abandoned castle across the horizon. With Snork as the navigator, the Moomins trekked through the sea on a road trip and came across some old friends. Some of these old friends included Edward the Booble and Hodgkins in a remote part of the ocean. Then there was the Muddler and Fuzzy carrying enough snacks for Sniff in their rusted water vessel. And finally, the Moomins reunited with the nomadic, violin-playing Joxter with Mymblemama and her rather grungy brood.

Upon arrival to this strange landmark, each individual went about a different task. Little My kept a lookout with the family binoculars while Moominpapa set up camp and Moominmama unpacked the backpacks with Thingumy and Bob. Mymble Jr. takes hold of a random guidebook and keeps a journal while her dear Too-Ticky is in charge of the camera. The first photograph of the island is of Snorkmaiden and Snork with a baby rhinoceros and a scarecrow Stinky snuck in for some odd reason. And some hattifattners that stowed away on the Hemulen’s jumbo flower archiving kit shimmied up with an unknown passport of all things.

As for Moomintroll and Snufkin, they had decided to go on a very private hike to the castle after the sun rises a little bit more.

here's a little list of things i remember from watching moomin as a kid that no one asked for

• having this weird attraction to alicia. turns out i'm lesbian.

• nightmares from the groke (canon event for every european kid)

• nightmares from edward the booble

• this weird blue guy with a purple jumpsuit and orange butt patches??? (couldn't remember his name until i joined the fandom)

• shipping tofslan & vifslan so hard. 6 year old me knew what was up

• a strong love for ninny that i still have

• moominpappa being found on a doorstep

• moominpappa pissing the bed

• actually just the entire first part of moominpappa's youth

• thinking snufkin was way older than moomin. i thought he was like 30 while moomin was like 7??

moomin Coming Out the hat transformed and not being accepted as who he is after he came out [ of the hat ] . hes begging for ppl to see who he is , who hes always been before and only moominmamma accepting him as is . it’s the unconditional love that turns him back to who he is deep down , just a moomin .

moomin yearning for snufkin . That’s it . Literally that yearning turning to expectancy and knowing ur ‘ friend ‘ will come back , the trust they share in eachother is not Best friends behavior .

its been very well known that thingumy and bob are meant to be a representation of tove jansson and vivica bandler relationship , and how their red ruby are meant to be a metaphor for them hiding their love and only opening the case to those they trust . even the hobgoblin searching for it could be a metaphor for him wanting / searching for something to make him feel accepted or happy , but coming to the realization that it’s the people he meet that fills those wants he’s had for centuries .

if i dare even say , and this is a reach , the hat could be about how once you come out things can change severely , scary and good things can happen , it’s all just how people and urself continue on .
