watching this guy -> @jdamvp2 on tiktok and he talks about m11 bring cute in early seasons and how mike is going to be a 'proper romancer' and im like omg that's literally such a perfect description for how he treats will in those flirty flirt bedroom scenes!

this tiktoker apparently picks up on byler in s2, and i can see how mike's care for the missing el in early s2 could be seen as romantic cos it's simply caring behaviour, and that isnt restricted to romance or friendships. but he's so caring to will in s2, too. and yet he NEVER romances el - ESPECIALLY not in s3 when they date!!! but in s4?

the flirty flirt with will? omgggg its sooo him romancing will! i just love that phrase aahhhh swoon! just imagine what it's gonna be like in s5, i hope for scenes where mike is just waiting on will, grabbing stuff for him, being helpful and complimentary about the small stuff like his resilience or his drawing skills. and will just blushing 25/7 i neeeeeed it!

The one thing I just kinda roll my eyes at with the Mlvn defense is 'oh they were so cute when they were kids, they should just let them stay together' as if all of those kids weren't cute? They casted well, the narrative made you care about them, they were the perfect, typical nostalgia media friend group that swung between adorable and precocious and sweet and sassy and the Mike-El situation fed into it. That he and his friends were losers and nerds but this kid was so kind to care about this girl in need, after initially just wanting to help and then dismissing her (which literally happened). They were 12. Of course they were cute. And then you grow up and change. And it doesn't always work out as you learn about yourself and go through life and that's the whole theme. And It's not cute anymore because they're not little kids and the relationship should be based on more than guilt and obligation. Shouldn't be together. But they should be friends. Growth. Things as they were at the beginning need not have to continue towards the end, storytelling should be better than that. Weird rant, but it was on my mind.

And the romance between them is just... so... flimsy. Mike has just as many romantic-coded moments with Will and those are even stronger!! Season three is the only true departure, and season three is there to demonstrate how fucking crazy and difficult and confusing being thirteen is - they were all going through the ups and downs of teenagerdom. Season 4??? I don't even need to get into it.

Fingers crossed for the flirtiest flirty flirt with Will in the final season. I want to see them pent up and pining and full of tension and flirtatious but wracked with confusion over what that means. Gimme gimme. 🤞🤞
