My schools in Massachusetts banned homework assigned before Jewish holidays, because their observance starts at sundown, so -- no homework time (this is also how I learned that Jewish and Muslim days start at sundown?)

I always thought that was par for the course but wow, didn't know other places didn't do that. That seems very... wrong.

So I always liked the Jewish holidays, because we got the day off and the teachers weren't allowed to assign us homework 😂 Easiest way to make the minority kids popular tbh

Controversial opinion (somehow) but it should be illegal for schools to assign homework on the high holidays.

#tbh with the number of East and South Asian kids at my high school #they really should've also added a day for diwali and a day for CNY #like even tho it lasts much longer than one day we shouldve gotten one day off imo. since so many of us celebrated those #i think it depends on how many of a minority there are in a school too #like i think the places i lived all had sizeable jewish populations #but even when it's like just one student i think the teachers should be lax #if theyre strict all they need to do imo is contact the parents and confirm they're observing the holiday seriously #to make sure it's a valid 'cant do hw that day' yknow #tho i suppose that could also be invasive if fhe teacher is just a horrible person
