Seriously how can M*r*uders stans like random Slytherins (who tf are Evan Rosier, Pandora (is that Luna's mum and why tf is she Evan Rosier's twin in half of these), and I don't even want to discuss Regulus) and make them Actually Misunderstood Good People Who Were Forced Down That Path when at least one of them *coughreguluscough* was obsessed with Voldemort
And then turn around and make Snape an awful person?

I don't think we talk enough about the scene when Junmo calls the HQ to report that Gicheol's been "caught". He's clearly struggling to keep his voice even, his eyes are welling up with tears and he cannot even look at his wife. And then we get that fucking shot of his hand, a close up on his wedding ring and then the camera pans down onto his wrist, on which sits the watch given to him by Gicheol.
Like what the fuck am I supposed to make of this? What the fuck am I supposed to make of Junmo's little smile when Gicheol tells him "When I look at you, I see myself"??
What the actual fuck am I supposed to do when after spending the entire goddamn series relentlessly pursuing only one goal—arresting Gicheol—Junmo couldn't bring himself to do that in the end?
"Why did you let me go?" and Junmo has no answer. Just why the fuck did you let him go Park Junmo?
"To protect the two of you, I let go of everyone I had" Gicheol says it out loud, Junmo's goes unsaid. Because he too let go of everyone he had–euijeong, do young–his entire previous life.
"Why did you let me go?" "I wanted to protect you, too."

Wicked, as reviewed by Finland's leading newspaper
The musical, Finnish production, 2010: the music is bland, the politics are confusing and dumb, the moral of the story is muddled
The movie, part 1, 2024: the best thing about this movie is that they don't burst into song all the time
The movie, part 2, 2025 (my prediction): it's confusing how Glinda did bad things and Elphaba did good things, and also, all songs should have been replaced with wordless silence

You know, the more I read about Narcissistic Personality Disorder, the more I become curious if the writers were actually using it as a guideline for Emile's character and plot involving him. Yes, yes, it's not particularly unique to create a selfish character nor one that has a comically grandiose perception of themselves, nor do are these traits comprehensive to what NPD is, but let me explain, because BOY the dude is a checklist.
As always, long post.
First, let's break out the good ole DSMV. It may not be perfect, but hey. It's what I've got to work with for Official Sources to escape pop psychology sites. Here's the diagnostic criteria for NPD:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How does Emile stack up?
1: He immediately establishes a sense of identity that he believes he is more great than a Greatwyrm.
Tumblr media
2: Much of his actions in the main campaign are born from a desire to live out his dreams of power, fame, and recognition.
Tumblr media
3: *Gestures vaguely at 98.4% of what Emile says in Dragalia lost* He often refers to others with derogatory names, especially those that reinforce the status differences between them. Honestly, his vocabulary regarding this is rather impressive. Ingrate, peasant, dreck, peon, clod...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4: Here's where I might start to suspect the writers were doing more than just writing an egotistical character. NPD is defined in part by the excessive need for admiration and reinforcement (more on that later). Emile occasionally voices sentiments like above. See also this quote in his Gala story, in which, despite being in desperate need for money, ultimately personally valued the praise he got from the customer more. He's always been a character desperate for positive response.
Tumblr media
5: A bit hard to distinguish from some of the standard entitlement royalty does get, but...yeeaaah. Emile is very much entitled in a way that Leonidas, who also expects absolute obedience of subordinates to his orders, isn't. He seems to believe that everyone automatically, no matter who they are, will immediately acquiesce to his will without question, without having any basis for their subservience. Take how he expects, -despite knowing that nobody recognizes him as Emperor at the moment, -a street artist to give up tools of his trade simply because he demands it.
Tumblr media
6: Again, quite a large chunk of his motives in the main campaign is exploitive behavior of others. He lies to make Mercury believe her home is in danger and that he can stop it, then establishes he views a pactbound dragon as a slave to his will. Chelle agrees to lend him her androids, and he immediately absconds with the remote she 'accidentally' left lying out to serve his own needs.
Even smaller things in chapter 4, like his demand for Euden to escort him to the summit, is taking advantage of Euden's sense of justice and fairness to ensure he can undergo Jupiter's trial (which he thinks he will win). Take his scheme to foster love for him once he yoinks the throne while everyone else is gone is manipulative. He creates a 'bandit problem' and then sets up scenarios to swoop in to save the day. People see through this one, but it's still manipulative.
Tumblr media
7: *Gestures vaguely at Emile again* Emile is...lacking in empathy or consideration for others' lives. I feel like this is pretty self-explanatory.
Tumblr media
8: We can see this even in the comics. His first appearence in them checks off several of the traits we've already discussed and adds in 'assumes others are jealous of him' to the book. But even sticking to 'pure' canon, Emile is long, long established that jealousy of his elder siblings in particular is a driving factor regarding his behavior. There's many examples for this, but I'll keep it short since I already used an excuse to drag out the comic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
9: *Gestures vaguely at Emile yet again* Honestly I'm not even going to add any pictures for this point. I think when even your NPC unit description claims you as 'haughty' it's an established character trait.
That's NINE out of nine traits, when FIVE is the requirement for a potential diagnosis. Key word being potential, because we place more requirements on a diagnosis than just matching some features.
But I'd like to go a bit deeper into it. It's one thing to constantly drag out all the moments of Emile being Emile, but digging into the whys of it all also is compelling to me and this argument.
Here's another small exert of the DSMV:
Tumblr media
Though hinted at in chapter 4, we gradually came to know more and more about the deeper side and reasons behind Emile's behavior. The long and short of it was: he's jealous. He knows he's inferior, deep, deep down. And we've one connecting factor for what flipped the switch to the degree of behavior he spirals into in canon: Euden. Emile spells it out early himself.
Tumblr media
From what we know of their relationship before canon, Euden seemed to be the adoring sibling eager to learn whatever Emile deigned to teach him and was generally subservient as he was to all his siblings. He, unintentionally, fed Emile's ego at being able to instruct an inferior, feeding that need for affirmation. Thus, when canon rolls around, Emile is gravely wounded (emotionally), by Euden's betrayal of 'stepping outside his place'. He's the pillar that's allowed Emile to raise himself so high, and now that he's moved, Emile falls.
In that same conversation, Emile explicitly cites the 'degradation' Euden is putting him through, and thus enters another long-lasting characteristic of NPD. Enter his rage.
Among all his other motivations for appreciation, Emile cultivated quite a potent desire to harm Euden in particular. Several times he expresses a desire or tries to kill him with his 'own two hands', but I think the Persona crossover event is a goldmine for demonstrating the extent of how enamored he is with thoughts of violence regarding Euden in particular after his 'offense'.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He doesn't just want to kill Euden. He wants to short drop hang him (ie, the non-instantaneous kind that leaves you suffocating, though who knows if they even know the 'break the neck instantly' variety either, to be fair). He wants to break him mentally and quite possibly physically, judging by how quick he is to call in Shadows to beat him. Somehow, I'd speculate just by the sheer pleasure he takes specifically in seeing Euden in despair and misery (he should take notes from Ciella) it'd be a quick jump to actual torture if Euden hadn't immediately been busted out as planned.
Why? Again: though his elder siblings left Emile feeling unappreciated and inferior, Euden is the one to have raised him up before dropping him. It's personal. Therein is his fragile self-esteem, so dependent on the one he viewed as inferior.
Tumblr media
All this culminates to a surprisingly replete picture of what NPD actually looks like. It's not just base selfishness or some excess ego, but a incredibly strong and persistent pattern of this kind of behavior, all in fulfillment of a need to acquire adoration. It's the fury that can follow the broken self esteem when that adoration isn't given. It's the vengeful fantasies of harming those who wronged him, the lower empathy for others occasionally paving the way for acts of violence.
Somehow, Emile is still compelling (to myself included), despite him being much of what people loathe in the real world. He's bombastic and dynamic in a way that his more emotionally-composed siblings aren't, and that lends him well to comedy in its own way. It doesn't hurt that he's like. Probably the 2nd most common of the royal fam to pop up, after Euden. He's the Saturday morning cartoon villain who is the lowest on the totem pole of threats and thus safe to have a laugh at until he rolls 20 and starts causing very real danger.
That aside, I threw together this for a more light-hearted thing regarding Emile:
Tumblr media
Edit: I remembered Zardin. I think it's kinda funny how Emile is a "better", more complete representation of a narcissist is and does than the supposed actual narcissist himself. I think it's a case of Emile being the 'technical' one while Zardin is a 'literary' one. Aside from being obsessed with his looks just as OG Narcissus was, he's... not really displaying many traits that I can recall from him. Still interesting.

thomas jr can be a very different person depending on the circumstances you meet him at. there is the nihilist and the absurdist. the man who has decided that the only real choice is to destroy everything...and the man who believe that nothing matters, but in this nothingness he can take matters into his own hands to make the nothingness worthwhile. in the end, you could discover everything, but still know nothing...what do you do about that uncertainty? rip it apart, or pull it together. the key different is family. whether he has it, or is alone.
my interpretation is rooted in the forever evil comic and the crisis on two earths film, smashing them together. you see both states that thomas can be in. forever evil you get to see him at this opportunity to fix his family. it's right in front of him. grayson, the boy that ran to his death, now alive and well. even his little brother, the one he shot to end the misery. even before then, he was still running on this possibility of family in the form of alfred. he still had something to keep him from going over the edge of there only being one choice that could be made. we see him want to fix everything. from his family, to the world itself, beyond just gotham. alfred dies, desperation but still a string of hope in the form of dick grayson, nightwing...in bruce. he helps, then flees when the opportunity arises.
...then you see him with nothing in the film. he doesn't have alfred, he doesn't have his talon, he's already lost it. he was already so close and the only option was to destroy it all. it takes him so much to get to that point, and with the opportunity--the trigger in the palm of his hand? he'd take it.
the point thomas is at now, on this blog, is where he was by the end of forever evil, with the experience of the mobius chair, and after returning from the dead. his goal is world domination--to fix everything. but he's teetering on the nothingness.

If you're a horror fan, you might like Evil Dead! It was an 80's horror movie series with Bruce Campbell playing Ash Williams. There's even a TV show that was made in 2015 called "Ash VS Evil Dead." It's pretty goofy, in my opinion, but there's still a lot of blood, guts, and gore if you're into that.
If you don't know Bruce Campbell, he's a great actor. He was Coach Boomer in Sky High and Pizza Poppa in the Dr. Strange multiverse movie. He's a great actor. He was also Autolycus in Xena Warrior Princess.
And if you like Xena, Lucy Lawless plays an evil character in the show "Ash VS Evil Dead" as a character named Ruby. She's still hot. It's just one of those types of villains where you absolutely hate them, but they're just absolutely hot.
I saw the new movie in theater and it was the only time I've regretted going to a horror movie. Not because it was bad, if you're a fan of that kinda stuff it was probably great! But it hits a spot in horror for me that mostly makes me feel bad. Very effective in doing so tho

Welp I just finished The Worst of Evil & I gotta say, I'm disappointed.
First of all, we've seen way worse when it comes to crime dramas/movies so I feel like the title is misleading. Yeah ppl got hurt/murdered but there were so many situations where ppl should've been murdered, would've been murdered if it were real life, but they were allowed to walk away freely w/a beating & a "don't show your face again". Like if you're gonna take out a gang you gotta take out a gang. You can't purposely let ppl that you betrayed & whose friends & bosses you've killed just run away. Especially after they try to get revenge on you by teaming up with/turning your allies against you multiple times. Messy. Some situations where just plain ridiculous.
Second, the ending...what the hell when the hell-? Since when did Junmo form any type of bond w/Gi Cheol?? Like I understand it from Gi Cheol's pov, Junmo saved him so many times & put his life on the line. But the whole time Junmo was only focused on doing what needed to be done to end the investigation quickly. He manipulated multiple situations to accomplish this, even manipulated Gi Cheol. Not once did I see affection, empathy, or regret from J towards him. Then all of a sudden at the very end we get this flashback of them walkin about town looking at each other like they're best buds...what?? As if J truly enjoyed his time w/him being a criminal & wasn't immensely stressed & traumatized the whole time. Maybe it's just me but that was very forced & last minute. It was the wrong drama for that. (There were a couple stand out scenes that were filmed differently from the rest of the scenes & it felt like there were 2 different directors or as if this was someones directorial debut & they wanted to throw in all the cinematic tricks they knew to build their portfolio or something. Those moments were cool but they didn't match the rest of the show, it was very disjointed.)
Third, I understand the message they were delivering. Going undercover & forcing someone to live in that type of situation will change them. Junmo was mentally changed forever, but I don't like that it affected his marriage. Suddenly he doesn't love his wife anymore? After everything they put me thru they couldn't give me that?? I'm fine w/out romance but don't include it then screw me over in the end. That just really made me dislike the whole drama. Him leaving his wedding ring at Gi Cheol's grave just pissed me off lol. It was refreshing for a kdrama to have the female 'love interest' go that far & immerse herself into that role just to protect her husband. I could feel how much she loved him, I mean she voluntarily emotionally manipulated her 1st love to protect Junmo. Their relationship ended abruptly before it could even begin in a sad way but instead of her feeling sorry for him or conflicted over how his life turned out she really lured him in to betray him for her husband. For them to turn around & make Junmo leave her behind like that...
Anyway, there was way less bromance than ppl were making it seem🙄
With a title like that I expected to be on the edge of my seat every moment, every ep, to be shocked by plot twists or unexpected revelations or just completely disturbed by violence. That never happened. It was just mildly interesting. I understood why Junmo would want to let him go at the end since they didn't really need him as the other 3 ended up making the drug deal, & he wasn't a heinous person. The standoff in the living room was a bit thrilling but it ended the way it ended... Oh & don't get me started on that damn cop! Why couldn't they have him demoted & stationed at a remote police station until the investigation was over? Sorry to say I felt nothing when he died.

honestly if all the people over my many years of living were in fact correct in their horrible horrible assumptions I was the most evil despicable inhuman person.
I’d still not care,
does the dog that bites because it’s only known pain evil?
Is the cat that kills a bird to show you it’s love evil?
is the plants that grow through the pipes in the ground cracking and puncturing them evil?
is the curious shark evil for taking a inquisitive bite?
Are the strikes that take the young and skewer them on thorns evil?
are the parasites that depend on its host evil for having no choice?
Am I evil or unsavory, who knows.
but if people wish to dehumanize me I shall make myself happy with the creatures you call evil, the ones who are scary and cruel the ones who hurt and chew and claw.
for we are one in the same, and I will happily accept that from you.
#-pop#Blep. Don’t mind me just poetry hours#why am i like this#shout out again to everyone who’s been dealing with death threats and hate speech recently#I’ve just been called horrible horrible things like I always do lol. So poetry time#bah. I wish I didn’t care as much but sometimes it hurts if I am evil let me be the kind that patches up your wounds and sings sweet-#lullabies.#as I laugh and laugh and cry#I’m human#I’m not infallible and I’m not perfect I’ll never be. I gave up on symmetry as soon as I learned I’m asymmetrical#I’m not pure or beautiful I’m rotten and foul. I’m scarred by things outside of my control and with a heart empathic and apathetic#So I am covered in blood and gore and scars and tears. I’m not perfect or just. I am me and me is enough#if I am a monster I still deserve love. Because even the worst monsters can love#I’m just a guy who exists and tries to love all. And it’s hard because I try to assume people want to love first. When they only want -#blood spilled.#I try and that’s all I have#and my best is horrible and my worst is a nightmare#but even through all this I still care and I still am kind#so be it if people label me a monster I shan’t be one to be loved by all for that is a fools errand. But I can try to be kind#well life is life. And people will try to label me things I;m not#I am a coward I am an idiot and maybe I am a monster#but I try to be kind. And that’s all I can do in the end. All anyone can do. I hold no malice but loss at the people and friends I could-#Have gained. Maybe a heart that’s so broken can only love in pain. Who knows I don’t

At least I'm glad Engage is kinda acknowledging that SS is Billy's route/story rather than the "church route". I just wish Intsys would acknowledge Edel is the villain and that it's okay to like villains, buncha cowards.
Well,
Supreme Leader is the marketing waifu of the Fodlan games, if the sailor fuku was any indication, and you can't tank a waifu :(
I mean, with all the excitement around the Fallen Heroes banner in FEH, or at least with people cheering when Fomortiis was released, you'd think some people would realise that no, liking a character who's Satan himself isn't any indication about your personal beliefs or if you are a "GoOd" person or not but...
Waifu sells, and controversy around her writing/agency/role/whatever you want managed to make FE16 still relevant after a year of global pandemic and still kicking so, yep, if you add a copious dose of "uwu waifu" it'll make your game sell like hotcakes.
I mean, look at Vero from Feh.
IS is still using the "tried'n'true" recipe, bad woman was "brainwashed sad uwus" or "lonely uwu" when she isn't manipulated by a man because she had feelings for him or wanted to use her womb, so all of her agency will fly over the window and you can sell a lot of cute alts in the gacha game.
Back to SS, the more I think about it, the more I think that it couldn't have been a Nabatean/Church route for the kind of same reasons, if you shed too much light on Nabateans, then opposing them because they have pointy ears or what not will look dubious, and if the Fodlan games are a masterpiece in writing fog and smoke to avoid calling an ox an ox, full-on refusal to consider another sentient race as deserving to do things/live because they are "different" would look way too bad for the usual "controversy" needed to sustain discourse for years.
(even Nopes erased it because you can't have Sailor Adrestia suddenly tell people they cannot rule over humans because of their race!)
So yep, SS is half-baked, as is the rest of the game (except maybe AM because it doesn't even pretend to give a fuck about Fodlan's history and the Agarthans) because of the pathological need to shed any light on Nabateans - and is an unconclusive Billy route -
where Billy can't even react to the fact they are not 100% human (that is learnt in the DLC!) and their daddy dearest found them too "unatural" to stay in the Monastery with the person who saved their life and is most likely the only other family they had.
And yet it's the route where Billy (regardless of the player wanting to join the r/atheism sub) realises they can do much more for Fodlan than being a mere person who kills for money and ascends to their destined - but ultimately chosen - path as Fodlan's leader.
